7
Historic Hawley proudly presents its annual pre-holiday celebration, Hawley Winterfest, Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 8. Now in its 15th year, this enchanting occasion honors the community’s Victorian roots with a weekend of warm winter fun for all. The Lake Region comes alive with the sights and sounds of the season as displays, presentations and family-friendly activities beckon visitors from near and far. This year’s schedule is rich with performances, exhibitions, culinary experiences and joyful gatherings. There will be caroling, carriage rides, great shopping, tours and tastings all weekend long. Friday’s festivities include a mélange of music and merriment while Saturday boasts a spectrum of sales, seminars, demos and displays. Featured events include the 12th Annual Cookie Walk and Victorian Luncheon, the Holiday House Tour, book signings, beer tours, the Holiday Artisans’ Fair, and a new Winter Wellness, Wine and Wonderment afternoon at the Roots Yoga studio. Sunday fun features the traditional Boat House Breakfast with Santa, Winterfest Brunch at the Settlers Inn and the annual Ritz Christmas Show. A complete schedule of events is available online at www.hawleywinterfest.com. Most events are free of charge; advance purchase or pre-registration may be required for certain attractions. For details, call the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center at (570) 226-2141. Hawley Winterfest is presented by the Downtown Hawley Partnership.

CTHA Presents Annual Holiday Festival Celebrate the season in Coolbaugh Township! The Pocono Mountain Public Library and the Coolbaugh Township Historical Association (CTHA) present the Sixth Annual Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to mix and mingle during this afternoon of fun for the whole family. Events take place at both the Pocono Mountain Public Library and the beautifully decorated Wills Mansion, located in the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Complex off of Route 611 in Tobyhanna. At the library, festivities begin with live entertainment from Small Change. The local trio will perform holiday music and popular songs starting at 1 p.m. Story Hour and Songs with Miss Sue will follow at 2 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m., Santa arrives for gift-giving and photo opportunities. This year, donations are being accepted for the local ecumenical food pantry, and victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Non-perishable food items and t-shirts will be collected at the library. Festival guests are also encouraged to visit the nearby Tobyhanna Train Station. The historic depot boasts beautiful holiday decorations, model trains and a charming Christmas Village display. The station is open on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., weather permitting. For additional information, call the Pocono Mountain Public Library at (570) 894-8860.

Children’s Program & Victorian Fundraiser at Eckley Miners’ Village Settled in 1854, Eckley Miners’ Village is a restored company mining town, or patch town. The living history site preserves a way of life that dominated the anthracite coal region for more than 150 years. An annual Children’s Christmas Program will be held in the Village Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8. Children will make their own ornaments and be treated to a wagon ride through the village. With an engaging storyteller and a visit from jolly old Saint Nicholas, the festivities present aspects of the village’s diverse ethnic heritage, and are designed for ages 5 through 12. Admission is $5 for adults and $10 for children. Reservations are required. A Victorian Christmas fundraiser will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, December 7, 8, 14 and 15. Visitors will be charmed by the holiday spirit in the site’s historic Sharpe House, decked with Christmas trees adorned in Victorian style. The festive fundraiser will also feature period-dressed re-enactors, a Victorian Tea, raffles, sales and a silent auction. Admission is free. Proceeds benefit Eckley Miners’ Village. Eckley Miners’ Village is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and supported by the Eckley Miners’ Village Associates. The site is located three miles south of Freeland off of Highland Road in Eckley, Pennsylvania. For additional information, call (570) 636-2070 or visit www. eckleyminersvillagemuseum.com.
