inter Hibernation? No Way! Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain stirs up a day of play on the slopes with their Winter Carnival Sunday, January 31.This popular destination encourages all to grab a lift ticket and enjoy the great outdoors for some awesome family friendly activities. Taking January’s National Learn to Ski & Snowboard month to new heights, Winter Carnival creates clever opportunities to experience these winter sports including a Lollipop Scavenger Hunt. This sweet search sends skiers and riders out on beginner trails to seek out the pseudo suckers in the snow with chances to win a prize if you find a marked stick! Share and share alike is the motto in this lotto as it’s asked if you find more than one marked stick, you put it back giving others a chance to experience the thrill of the find. There are also drawings for a complimentary ski or snowboard tune in the rental shop and cool demonstrations from the pros with the Ski Patrol sharing scenario demonstrations from 1p.m. to 2 p.m. Grab a group or go solo and enjoy Ski Big Bear at Masthope for the day then plan to stick around throughout the season with a lineup of exciting reasons why winter rocks in the Poconos!

Fly

Why Eagles

to the Poconos

T

housands of miles of lush forests and flowing waterways, the Pocono Mountains provides an ideal habitat for many species of animals. Few mountain experiences can be as exhilarating as the opportunity to observe wildlife in an unspoiled setting with eagle watching reaching its peak in the coming weeks. According to the Eagle Institute, hundreds of bald eagles migrate

!!

to this region each winter in search of open water, abundant food and undisturbed habitat. When northern lakes and rivers begin to freeze, these majestic creatures fly to the Poconos, where open water supplies a steady source of fish. The visiting raptors join a growing population of resident eagles, perched in trees hunting throughout the season.

Sponsored Eagle Watches, available through many area organizations, provide safe and exciting opportunities for observation. Checkout our Coming Events page for a line-up to sign-up with many requiring reservations. Updates online at ThisWeek.net.
