Committee works hard to entertain by Kara Hildreth THISWEEK NEWSPAPERS
Dew Days would not be possible if not for the work of a few dedicated volunteers. While the festival has had its ups and downs the past few years, a crew of hardworking local residents is gearing up to entertain the masses from June 16-20. Farmington Police Chief Brian Lindquist is this year’s event chairman. Before moving to Farmington 13 years ago, Lindquist served on the Long Prairie City Council and was chairman of that community’s annual festival, Prairie Days. “I thought to myself, there are some advantages to being the chief and you have access to things that can help get things done, Lindquist said. After seeing the changes to Dew Days over the years,
“I thought it is time to put up or shut up, he said with a smile. Lindquist and the rest of the committee are striving to make sure the event is fiscally sound. “If we make a dollar, I might consider that to be a success, he said. “My intent this year was to limit the liability of Dew Days and make a relationship and to provide entertainment and profit sharing to help Dew Days and CEEF. In addition to having volunteer help from CEEF (Castle Rock, Empire, Eureka and Farmington Enhancement Group), Maribeth Vanderbeck is helping to orchestrate many details. Vanderbeck has led Dew Days the past couple of years. “She has played a very
integral part and has helped me, Lindquist said, who asked Vanderbeck to help after he became chairman. “If it wasn’t for Maribeth, there would not be a Dew Days this year, Lindquist said. “If I tried twice as hard as she does, I could not have done half of what she has done. Lindquist encouraged longtime and new residents of Farmington to attend, saying the food and entertainment will delight all. “I want to fill up the place, Lindquist said. “I want people to come and have a good time and come back downtown, he said. A complete Dew Days schedule can be found in this edition and at www. Lindquist said he hopes to garner more artists next year as vendors often book well in advance of events. The festival will kick off with the annual Miss Farmington and Little Miss pag-

The Dakota Valley Arts Council will give a free art show inside Farmington City Hall.
