Pan-O-Prog means fun for whole family Event runs from July 4 through 10, Soul Asylum to perform by Aaron Vehling THISWEEK NEWSPAPERS

Lest anyone think that Lakeville, amid its rapid expansion and surburbanization, has lost its smalltown feel, the annual PanO-Prog is just around the corner. The festival, which runs from July 4 through 10, began when Lakeville was on the up-and-up 45 years ago (hence the name “Panorama of Progress), but it still was very much a smaller, tighter-knit place, than it is today. But a community gathering like Pan-O-Prog provides an opportunity for Lakeville residents to decompress and enjoy them-

selves and each others’ company. It is a chance to reconnect with the interwoven community of a generation ago. The weeklong celebration offers more than 50 events for virtually all of Lakeville’s personalities: a parade, movies, a battle of the bands, sports tournaments, historical exhibits, a talent show, Cruise Night, orchestral music, motorcycle cruises and even the Grammy Awardwinning local band Soul Asylum. That band’s biggest hits of the 90s included “Runaway Train and “Misery. The fireworks display is always a popular event. Beginning at dusk on July 4 at Lakeville North High School, the visual spectacle of explosions is a nice way to kick off the weeklong event. The Classic Car Cruise

on Cruise Night and the grand parade are also popular. The car cruise showcases more than 500 vehicles that are at least 25 years old, but special interest cars prevail as well. It begins at Lakeville South High School and will cruise through downtown, to Highway 50 and then to Cedar Avenue. The parade is a centerpiece of Pan-O-Prog. It starts at 5:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 9. Event organizers estimate that about 15,000 people typically line up along the one-mile route to witness the 135unit strong parade. It provides two hours of solid, dynamic entertainment for the whole family. There are many more activities, games and entertaining opportunities available at Pan-O-Prog. Check out the schedule included in this insert. If you have
