Rosemount considers options for new senior center downtown Former Catholic school may be torn down by Laura Adelmann THISWEEK NEWSPAPERS
Rosemount officials are considering options to build a senior center and senior housing downtown next to the city-owned Steeple Center. Both the Dakota County Community Development Agency and a private company have conducted preliminary discussions with city staff regarding options to develop the site, previously part of the St. Joseph’s Church and parish. Rosemount City Council members discussed the project at a June workshop, but no decisions were made, other than City Administrator Dwight Johnson’s suggestion that the city talk to more providers and get more input on possibilities. Mayor Bill Droste said it fills a community need, would be a good location near a planned park-andride, and would help provide parking space for the Steeple Center. Lindquist said the CDA is implementing a senior housing program throughout the county, and based on the organization’s commitments previously made to other communities, would be able to finance a
