the day at the post at 14521 Granada Drive. Johnny Cake Ridge Park will be awash in festivities on the Fourth, with the family carnival running from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., a pre-fireworks party featuring music by DJ Sounds and food vendors from 5 to 10 p.m., and a fireworks display at dusk. Check out today’s front page story for more on Freedom Days.
Freedom Days culminates in a full day of festivities July 4 at various sites throughout the city. The immensely popular Fourth of July parade starts at 1 p.m. at Pennock Avenue and Fireside Drive and works its way to Apple Valley High School. This year’s parade will see the standard array of floats, marching bands, clowns, motorcycles, and horses, along with a flyover of military planes sponsored by
the Apple Valley American Legion. Because curbside space for parade spectators is such a hot commodity, the Apple Valley City Council has passed an ordinance restricting the placement of blankets, chairs and other items to reserve curbside spots along the parade route to 24 hours before the start of the parade. In addition to the parade, American Legion Post 1776 is hosting a chicken barbecue and other activities throughout
