WARNING! The additional force from the motor could mean that you travel at a considerably higher speed than you are used to on your bicycle. Please take this into account when familiarizing yourself with the pedelec. WARNING! Always apply the bicycle’s brakes before you set foot on the pedal! The right brake lever has an additional motor switch. The motor drives as soon as you push the pedal. This force is unfamiliar and can lead to falls, danger or accidents in traffic, which could result in injury. WARNING! To prevent an uncontrolled launch, the system only starts to support you when the rear wheel is turning. Nevertheless, for your safety you should always have one brake applied before you place your foot on the pedal. Please also note that the speed switch provides strong support. This might feel very unusual. Uncontrolled launches with your pedelec/bicycle can lead to a fall or serious accidents, particularly on loose or skiddy surfaces or in road traffic. We strongly recommend wearing a helmet.

Range – suggestions and tips With the sensor sensitivity, the ratio between the motor power and rider power can be individually adapted (Instructions see page 14). The following is valid here: The slighter the sensor sensitivity, the greater the range. The Stromer consumes the most energy when accelerating. Try to keep a constant speed. In order to avoid short-term acceleration, you must ride with smooth pedaling whenever possible. Ideally the pressure on the pedals should be constant during the entire turn of the crank. With a heavier weight (rider and luggage), the motor must perform higher when accelerating or on a climb. Minimize your luggage in order to achieve a greater range. Regularly check the tire pressure. The roll resistance increases with low tire pressure, which can considerably reduce the range. You can find the recommended tire pressure on the side of the tires. The riding speed and range are decreased on strong climbs as the motor has to perform higher to increase the speed or the altitude. At low speed (up to 6.2 mph) the efficiency is poorer. At high speed (as of 21.7 mph) the drag increases considerably. Ride at medium speed to achieve the maximum range.

In order to extend the range using recuperation, only electrical braking should be used, not mechanical braking. To do so, ride in recuperation mode or only lightly tap the brake. The longer the recuperation is active, the greater the range. Increase the pedaling frequency (low gear) while maintaining the same speed and you will ride more economically and extend the range. The support mode changes the ratio between the motor power and rider power. You save the most battery power if you change to a lower support mode on a climb. Avoid riding with POD mode. To increase the range, you should avoid riding with the gas handle. This is particularly true on climbs and when accelerating.

Notes on care + If the battery is driven completely empty, you must charge this directly after riding as otherwise the battery is deeply discharged after a short time. + If the battery is not used for an extended period, it must be completely charged. Store at room temperature and recharge every 2 to 3 months. + Charge your battery at room temperature.

15

Maintenance and care For any work on the Stromer, the battery must be removed from the battery compartment and the battery compartment must be closed. Bring your Stromer for service once or twice a year depending on the usage. The first service should be performed after approx. 6 months. Regularly check the tire pressure. To keep the roll resistance low on the one handand to prevent flat tires on the other. Regularly check the connectors on the display as well as those of the motor (under the neoprene protection on the inside of the left chain stay).

The chainrings should be checked for broken or bent teeth every time they are cleaned. This is often responsible for imprecise shifting or for the chain jumping off and increased chain wear. It is best to use a dry lubricant on sunny days and a wet lubricant on wet days and in winter. Application: Clean the dirty chain using a rag. Then turn the crank counterclockwise, applying oil to the inside of the chain in the process. Finally use a rag to free the chain of excess oil.

Care in winter and near the coast If you use your Stromer in the winter or near the coast, lubrication of the chain should be performed more frequently due to the salt load.

Clean your Stromer with bike care product and water. To do so, it is best to use a sponge or a rag. Motor, display, battery compartment and electrical connectors should not be sprayed with the hose.

Store and charge your battery at room temperature. Cold batteries deliver less power than warm ones.

Sprocket and chain

Protect your Stromer against weather when not in use.

The sprocket and chain should regularly be cleaned and checked for wear. This increases the service life. Depending on the load from dirt, moisture, salt and traction that affects it, the chain has a service life of 621 miles to 1864 miles.

Regularly clean your Stromer from salt.

WARNING! When setting up, servicing or cleaning the pedelec/bicycle, the cables should neither be substantially compressed or damaged by sharp edges. WARNING! The electrical motor in your bicycle is very powerful. To operate it correctly and safely, we recommend having it serviced by a Stromer authorized dealer on a regular basis. Immediately remove the battery if you identify any damage to the electrical system or see live parts exposed after a fall or accident. Always consult a Stromer authorized dealer if you require repairs, want to ask about a question or problem, or have identified a defect. Having a lack of Stromer authorized knowledge can result in serious accidents. Before you carry out any repairs or care and maintenance work, always remove the battery first. Otherwise there is a danger of electrocut on and injury. WARNING! Working on the bicycle requires expert knowledge, experience and Stromer authorized tools. Only allow authorized dealers to work or check key parts on the bicycle.

16

Safety notes Under no circumstances should you perform the following with your battery: + short it + place it in water or clean it with water + open it or tamper with it + charge it with a different charger + expose it to a source of heat or flame Avoid the use of high-pressure cleaners. These may affect the ball bearings and the electrical system.

SECURITY

CAUTION

WARNING! If you are unsure of whether your bicycle is in a sound technical condition, take it to a Stromer authorized dealer to be checked instead of riding it.

Problem

Solution

The Stromer does not offer support or only irregularly.

Switch off the control unit. Make sure that the pedals are completely free of load. Switch your control unit back on and try it again. The brake sensor on the right brake lever may be misaligned. The sensor thereby sends a constant switch-off signal to the motor. Disconnect the connector of the brake sensor to the control unit and try it again. If the problem is solved by this, you can have the sensor reset during the next service.

After switching on, four zeros appear on the display (0000), and the first digit flashes.

The system lock was activated when switching off. To deactivate the system lock see page 11.

The control unit cannot be switched on.

Change the control unit's battery. This must be removed from the handlebar for this. You require a size 4 Allen wrench and a button battery (CR2032) for this. You can also contact our service points to have this work carried out.
