01 NEOBIT
NEOBIT
At first sight, Neobit is a simple product, yet extremely powerful. It has transformed the way we interact, create and share our imagination within the physical world. This self-assembling, reconfiguring network can be used to program physical matter just like the digital. It is the true integration of technology into everyday life. Where will you take it next?

In Neobit X, we have introduced 8 new material types. These types are mainly architecturally influenced with enhanced tactile surfaces. With these new surfaces, we are able to cover the entire Neobit without exposing any joints. These new material types include: Brick, Timber, Fur, Leather, Cushioned, Print, LEDs and Metal

Each Neobit particle contains a solid 5mm 7075 aluminium frame, inertial actuator, motor controller, batteries and control circuitry. Within the inertial actuator, a brushless DC motor, spin flywheel, servo motor can also be found.

CONNECTION

ELECTROPERMANENT MAGNET MODULE
CONNECTION BETWEEN PARTICLE
Neobit utilises the Electropermanent Magnetic (EP Magnets) field in order to respond to one another. It allows Neobit particles to programmatically self-adhere in a scalable fashion with close to zero energy consumption. There are 2 EP Magnets on each face of a Neobit, while another on each edge. A single particle weighing 4 grams can cantilever holding more than 200 times of its own weight. There are two different types of magnetic materials that make up the electropermanent magnet, Neodymium Iron Boron (magnetically hard, non-state changing) and Alnico V (magnetically semi-hard, semi changeable state). They are both capped with Iron at both ends (magnetically soft material, changeable state) and wrapped with coil. The advantage of an electropermanent magnet is its programmable magnetic field strength that requires near zero power consumption. 5
EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY
RARE EARTH MAGNET
Rare Earth Magnets are one of the strongest type of permanent magnets on Earth. They can be extremely brittle and also corrosible. Rare Earth Magnets do not consume any power, but they are not able to change its magnetic field level.
6
EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY
Electromagnets consume power continuously in order to maintain their magnetic field. They can be charged with extra power in order to change their magnetic field state.
7
EVOLUTION OF TECHNOLOGY
STATE: ON LVL 1
STATE: CHANGING
STATE: ON LVL 2
Electropermanent magnets only consume power when changing states and do not require any energy to maintain a stable magnetic field.

04 RESOLUTION
Resolution
Resolution, also known as Pixel Resolution Size, is often referred to the size of each Neobit particle. Neobit X retains the same resolution (10mmx10mm) to avoid any backward compatibility issues. As well as ensuring that it remains safely visible and unconsumable.
9
RESOLUTION
Neobit can accumulate into cubes of different sizes. We allow the user to control the visual pixel size which dictates how pixelated a creation can look or feel.

05 MOVEMENT
MOVEMENT - GENERAL
SINGLE BLOCK MOVEMENT
Torque
Movement
Axis
The general movement of a single particle is activated when a moment is applied by the inertial actuator. The moment would cause an unconstrained module to rotate about its centre of gravity. Since the module is constrained geometrically, the block will rotate about the pivoting axis in the middle.

Due to its geometry, there are also restrictions towards its mobility. There has to be enough space, cubes attached with only the edge cannot support load. Cubes can slide pass each other, but friction has to be considered.

Neobit can also allow groups of modules to move as a rigid assembly. They can move around edges, roll as a rigid group as well as become meta-modules allowing additional degrees of freedom in moving in multiple axes.

06 SOFTWARE
SOFTWARE
Neobit comes with a dedicated software that allows the user to create, manipulate and share their designs. A single user license code can be found at the back of this manual. The software can be downloaded at any app stores and supports Win/Mac/Linx/ Android operating systems. Details can be found online at http://www.neobit.com/support/software/details

Blueprints can be developed through our dedicated software, available for purchase online or in store. Architects and designers are strongly encouraged to collaborate with professionals from other industries through our dedicated discussion board. In-house engineers and programmers are also avilable for hire `online. Parameters are also set by the developers during this stage. This allows people to alter the appearance, structure or replace materials within the design.

PUBLIC STRIP (PUBLIC) Users are able to rent Neobit within the public strip. These public embedded Neobit are accessible via instructions on the HUD screen, once payment is made online. Neobit used on the public strip is strictly owned by the representing company, thus personal neobit will not be able to combine and collaborate in this area. Users can roam freely within the area in order to create their structures and designs. Proposed designs: Temporary office space, shops, exhibition platforms, concert venues, art sculptures, playground

PUBLIC RENTABLE SPACES (PUBLIC/PRIVATE) These spaces are meant for temporary usage, they are mostly attached within small alleyways, habitating abandoned spaces. Most pods come in cubic form and are installed with a different amount of Neobit underneath. Once hired, the entire amount of Neobit installed within the representing space will be assigned to the user profile. The user now owna the space for the amount of time stated in the agreement. Proposed designs: Office spaces, creative studios, temoprary sleeping compartments
29
INSTALLATION
SYSTEM INSTALL
RESIDENTIAL (PRIVATE) Neobit can be installed into existing buildings, where 1cm in height is equivalent to 1 Neobit layer. The entire space is private; visitors who want to use the Neobit system have to gain access through request to the owner. Neobit can also make up an entire wall or ceiling, allowing a more dynamic experience in shaping the building. A monthly payment is required for the system to function properly. Proposed designs: Partitions, furniture, platforms, balconies, doors, windows, shading system, exterior shapes
30
INSTALLATION
SYSTEM INSTALL
COMMERCIAL (PUBLIC/PRIVATE) A partial system can be installed into existing buildings, allowing only specific areas to be Neobit active. This is only possible within a private ID sector. Similar to WIFI, a commercial space can also switch from being public to private or have two different channels which people can connect to for different purposes. Proposed designs: partitions, furniture, platforms, doors, windows, 1:1 model showcase, design development, conceptual creation
31
PORTABLE
CREATE ON THE GO (PUBLIC/PRIVATE)) Neobit can be carried around in clustered blocks for portable usage. In Neobit-allowed areas, people can create and fabricate their designs on the go. Their creation will be restricted to the amount of Neobit particles they carried as well as the material type. People can also collaborate to create something together if the required amount of Neobit exceeds the amount carried.

TEMPORARY FIXING
FIXINGS (PUBLIC/PRIVATE) Combined in layers, Neobit can become a very useful component of temporary fixings and construction. Their magnetic field can be changed and increased through the use of electricity. Temporary fixings should only be used for a short period of time; permanent fixings from other sources should still be considered.
33
PORTABLE
CONNECTION BETWEEN INSTALLED SYSTEM AND PORTABLE SYSTEM
EXTRACT FROM THE INSTALLATION SYSTEM (PRIVATE) A Certain amount of Neobit can be extracted through a privately installed system. The Neobit can then be used as portable blocks and be carried away from the area.
