Sh o p R i t e L P G A C l a s s i c Se a v i e w Do l c e Re s o r t We’re back! ShopRite is returning to the historic Bay Course at Seaview Golf Club with the 2010 ShopRite LPGA Classic! We are thrilled to be back in Galloway with this brand new tournament and proud to lend the ShopRite name to this worthy fundraising event. Over the years, ShopRite has donated more than $22 million to charities by sponsoring LPGA events. Last year alone, we were able to give $1.2 million to 35 charities in ShopRite’s trading area, aiding local hospitals, food banks, educational institutions and other agencies which work to improve the quality of life in these communities. This year, we look forward to continuing our support of local organizations and helping to improve the lives of our friends and neighbors. We have a long history with the LPGA in South Jersey. This tournament, originally known as the Atlantic City Classic, began in 1986 and was played at several courses near Atlantic City with the first two and last nine years played at Seaview. The tournament was officially changed to the ShopRite LPGA Classic in 1992 when ShopRite took over as title sponsor. In the past, we’ve been lucky enough to host some of the greatest names in women’s professional golf including past Champions Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, Juli Inkster, Se Ri Pak, Cristie Kerr, Annika Sorenstam and the 2006 Champion Seon Hwa Lee at our tournaments. This year we look forward to watching the best female golfers in the world and we are thrilled to welcome teenage sensation Alexis Thompson to the world of professional golf. At press time nearly all of the top 100 players on the 2010 LPGA money list are scheduled to compete for Jersey Shore bragging rights and their share of $1.5M in prize money On behalf of the entire ShopRite family, I’d like to thank the players, fans, charities, volunteers and partnering sponsors who make this event happen. Not only do we all get to enjoy a great week of golf with the brightest stars in the sport, but we also participate in one of the biggest fundraising efforts of the season. Thank you for joining us today and for your continued support of the LPGA and the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Enjoy the golf! Joseph Colalillo Chairman of the Board and CEO Wakefern Food Corp.

Sh o p R i t e L P G A C l a s s i c Se a v i e w Do l c e Re s o r t On behalf of the LPGA, I would like to welcome you to the 2010 ShopRite LPGA Classic. Like you, I am first and foremost a fan. It is a joy to see these professional golfers in person and marvel not only at their talent but also at the gracious way they interact with fans, sponsors and each other. Golf truly is a global game, and the diversity of LPGA Tour is one of our most compelling attributes. We welcome players from all corners of the world, boasting players this season from 29 different countries. When a young girl dreams about making it to the LPGA, she yearns to compete with the best players in the world on the best golf courses in the world—and that’s what you’ll witness this week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Former champions Seon Hwa Lee, Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr, and Angela Stanford return this year to attempt to win again on the historic Bay Course at the Seaview Dolce Resort. In the end, only one athlete will earn the honor to hoist the trophy. I want to take this opportunity to thank ShopRite for its tremendous support! The LPGA cannot thrive without partners who respect and support the LPGA’s passion, performance and enthusiasm and share with us consistent values of diversity, opportunity, and community. A special thank you in particular goes to Joe Colalillo, Chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corporation. We applaud Joe and the entire tournament staff, officials and volunteers for their tireless dedication to the LPGA as well as their commitment to local and national charities. We also applaud you, the fans, who make the LPGA what it is today, a league built on the shoulders of passionate, dedicated supporters. As we celebrate 60 years of the LPGA this season, we hope you will join us throughout 2010 and for many more years to come. This week, I look forward to walking with you, cheering with you, and being inspired by you—together we are the LPGA. Enjoy the competition; it truly represents the best women golfers in the world!

MEMORIES of SEAVIEW by Mike Rose

Back in the early 1960’s, I was just beginning to enjoy my new favorite sport, golf. I had excelled at all the major sports growing up, being the top football, basketball and baseball player at Cedar Road Elementary School in Abington, Pa. But when I broke my leg playing football in 5th grade, my mother would no longer sign the parent permission form for football. When I went to Huntingdon Junior High for 7th grade, it very soon became apparent that my game was not up to a higher standard, in that I wasn’t fast enough, tall enough and had “white man’s disease”. But baseball was still my passion, surely I could still excel there. Wrong again. The faster fastballs and sharper curves put me on the bench. So I moved on and would see if I could hack it on the golf course. My good hand-eye coordination helped me pick up the game quickly and I made Abington’s golf team in 9th grade. I started playing on their team and visiting many courses in the region. My Dad was an avid player and I enjoyed hearing his stories of rounds at some of the region’s top courses. With his many trips to his favorite golf vacation site The Greenbriar, he had become friends with Sam Snead. Snead had won the PGA in 1942 at Seaview Country Club outside Atlantic City, and Dad had always wanted to play there, but at that time, Seaview was a very exclusive private club, not open to everyone. He eventually got to play and I remember how much he enjoyed it. In 1984, with times having changed and memberships at exclusive clubs now more open, the Seaview membership took their profit and sold the club to Marriott. Seaview was now open to all to play, visit, stay over and enjoy all the amenities. It also returned to the pro tour schedule, as the site of the LPGA’s Atlantic City Classic in 1986-87. I finally got to play Seaview in 1988 as their Bay and Pines courses were the local qualifying site for the Cadillac Cup, a 4-man team event, the winner representing our region in the national team finals at Marriott’s TPC at Sawgrass. There were over 25 club teams vying for the spot, with powerhouse teams from Huntingdon Valley, Overbrook, Phila. CC and (continued on page 10)

Manufacturers, teams that annually contended for GAP’s Team Championship. Our team from Philmont could never match those strong teams in 12-man matches, but we always felt we were as strong in the top 4, which was what this event required. In the 2-day event, our Philmont team of myself, past Philly AM champs Ben Goldman and Art Jacoby and twice runner-up Bob Levy, was able to beat the big boys and went on to Sawgrass and won the national title. The following year, we were back at Seaview, but the task of winning the qualifying spot looked slim, as Pine Valley, the world’s #1 golf course, had sent a team of legends – US Amateur, British Amateur and 2 time US Mid Am champ Jay Sigel, State champion Buddy Marucci, 2 time US Senior champ O. Gordon Brewer and 2 time Philly Am champ Dave Brookreson. At the last minute, Jay had to drop out, but in his place came Davis Sezna, the Delaware champ. It went down to the very last hole, but our Philmont was able to hold on to our 1 shot lead, and win the trip to Sawgrass, where we had the best time of our lives in winning the Cadillac Cup once again. Those Seaview courses will always hold a warm spot in all our hearts. Over the last 2 decades, I’ve been a regular at Seaview, enjoying the “Stay and Play” packages that Seaview offers. My wife loves the spa, the rooms, the food and other amenities that continue to make Seaview the perfect golf getaway destination. From 1998 to 2006, the ShopRite LPGA returned to Seaview, run by Larry and Ruth Harrison, friends of our family since the 60’s. In those years, I covered golf for the Comcast Network, and was able to interview the likes of Annika Sorenstam, Betsy King, Julie Inkster, Norwegian star Suzanne Petterson and a 14 year old player named Michelle Wie. This year, the ShopRite LPGA Classic will again return to Seaview after a 4 year absence, and the ladies of the LPGA couldn’t be more pleased. They love Seaview’s Donald Ross designed Bay course, and they love the excitement and action of Atlantic City. I’ll be back again at Seaview to cover the event, this time for 950 ESPN and 97.5 FM The Fanatic. It should be another exciting event, creating another chapter in the history of one of America’s great golfing venues.

presented by Women’s Dermatologic Society for more information, visit playsafeinthesun.org. The LPGA and the Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) have teamed up again this year to promote year-round sun safety and skin cancer prevention. Please stop by the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s tent at the 9th hole to re-apply sunscreen. Sun Safety Tips for Golfers: • Apply a UVA and UVB sunscreen (broadspectrum) with an SPF of 15 or higher 30 minutes before going outdoors • Use a golf-ball sized amount of sunscreen (one ounce) to cover your entire body. • Re-apply every nine holes (every two hours! — even on a cloudy or cool day.) •

Completely coat all exposed areas of your face, head and body, ears, neck, nose, shoulders, back of the hands and front/back of your arms and legs.

Cover your lips with sun protective lip balm or sunscreen.

Check expiration dates on your sunscreen to ensure effectiveness.

Seek shade whenever possible, and cover yourself with a golf umbrella between holes.

Wear a broad-brimmed hat (preferably with a back flap) instead of baseball caps to help protect your face, ears and neck.

Protect your eyes with UV-protective sunglasses.

Wear sun protective clothing (tightly woven) including long pants and long-sleeved shirts as often as possible.

THE BAY COURSE

The 2010 ShopRite LPGA Classic is played on the Bay Course at Seaview Dolce. Hugh Wilson laid out the original plan in 1914. Scottish Hall-of-Famer and legendary designer Donald Ross finished the course the following year. In 1997 Robert Cupp, Jr. began a comprehensive $1M restoration to bring the course back to the vision of its original designers. Situated on the coast of Reeds Bay, just a few miles northwest of Atlantic City, N.J., the Bay Course incorporates a variety of challenges in its classic mounding, deep pot and high-faced bunkers, tricky seashore winds and small greens with subtle undulations.

Apply a UVA and UVB sunscreen (broad-spectrum) with an SPF of 15 or higher 30 minutes before going outdoors. Use a golf-ball sized amount of sunscreen (one ounce) to cover your entire body. Re-apply every nine holes (every two hours– even on a cloudy or cool day). Completely coat all exposed areas of your face, head and body, ears, neck, nose, shoulders, back of the hands and front/back or your arms and legs.

Play Safe in the Sun is a community service outreach of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, made possible through a generous grant from L’Oréal U.S.A.
