Future Studios is a company that specialises in creating images that announce a subjective future to a certain situation or space. In this book we will be taking you trough the future of Antwerp, a city in Belgium. Each designer has the same starting point: Socio Ecology, basiclly this means that they are reaching out to some major problems within the city during 2012. Future Studios will be providing awnsers and alternatives to energy, ecologic, and social related problems. “We would like to invite you to this solid read and hope our visions may help you get a better image of what the future could hold.�

THE WORLD ON RAILS, THE WORLD OF THE FUTURE If there’s one thing we can say with absolute certaint y, ti’s that taking subways and trams isn’t the favourite task of the day. Subway s are often dirt y, dark, and all in all quite depressing. In the following case we’ll be exploring

Based on scandinavian design, the subways will undertake a massive transformation, all in one style is where we are going for. A soothing atmosphere where you can relax, and lights, lots of lights.
But why blue? Simple, blue is the only colour present in the subway rooms, wich emphasize the soothing / cooling atmosphere we want to create in these halls. In the end it’s all about creating a solid structure.

In a world filled with social media and ever yone pushing eachother to “like” this, “stumble” on that and “re -t weet” what else. In the world of the subway social engagements are allways left out, you are on your way, traveling, getting to places where you need to be. In here, you are nothing more than an image that has been discouverd as quick as it’s forgotten. Total unanimit y, but there are exceptions. You might run into a friend once in a while.

than a green facade with ivy.” Antwerp goes vegetated, there are a lot of open spaces in the city that can be used for green growing, to become a healitier city. Also a green roof replaces traditional roofing with a lightweight, living system of soil, compost, and plants. It creates a thin, green skin atop a building that gives a little something back to the world. The plants–and the dirt and gravel that hold them–filter rainwater and some of its pollutants. The plants produce oxygen that help clean the air. A green roof reduces a building’s heating and cooling costs, acting as a form of insulation. And they lessen the heat island effect, in which buildings warm up so much that they heat the surroundings. Genious!

Building a green roof has a lot of ecological, economical and aesthetic benefits. A green roof looks better than a conventional roof. You can come to rest on it, you can invite friends and no doubt about it, you enjoy more intense the surrounding light and air. Green roofs improve air qualit y, reduces global cities, appeal to imagination, are environentally friendly and they do save space, a lovely advantage seen in a cit y! Green roofs also mean reacycling, they cool buildings, especially in summer and spring and insulate sound. also the government likes green roofs, they relieve the existing sewerage system and partially reduce the flood risk. No longer doubt is the message.

The policy on privacy is in a changing form. Starting out with online media such as Facebook, twitter, tumbler and many more people gave up their privacy in a certain way, everyone knows what you do, where you are and what you’re thinking. This will only get whorse and whorse, even in real life. In a world of modern architecture where glass is the main ingriëdient to a design, peoples privacy will only fade more and more. We believe that the border between inside and outside is going to fade afway rapidly through modern architecture. In a house where the construction is over 60% of glass, the see - throught aspect ratio will only increase by the year. Maintance of these types of houses will only grow. This means that you arn’t safe anymore, walls are no longer the protection of your privacy.
Is this a bad thing? A bit of both, you will be more aware of your soroundings and are more involved in the world. The other side of the medaille is the vice versa aspect: What you are seeing, sees you as well. Say goodbye to hiding and brick walls, everyone will know what you are doing. and that’s a fact.

The city is one big garden “ we have to escape from the hustle and bustle the pressure of the human beehive” Living in a city like Antwerpe, is living in a place where it is a herd of people.Most of the people are living in appartments, close togehter and there is no room for a garden. Research tells us that the fact of not having a garden one of the mainreasons is of moving out of the city. Looking for nature and more green to enjoy. Nature is necessary for the welbeing of humankind. No matter what we need nature. In the city of Antwerp are the only green places the city parks. That’s why there is a new idea, concept for the future,citygardens for everybody. For the people who don’t have the possibility’s to enjoy the beauty of a garden. There are many places where there is still room for this gardens. It’s not the meaning of building new buildings but integrate the exsisting buildings with gardens. where people can gardening, talk,planting flowers,enjoying and searching peacefulness. These gardens can be wild beauty or clean pictures but it allows for diversity. This brings socialy a asset and the city becomes more colourfull.
There is a evolution comming from a ego area to a sharing area. Townpeople without a garden can come together and share a garden, working together. Stimulating the community development, strengthening the social cohesion is important. Filosoph Alain de Botton also talks about the anxious modern man. The back-to-nature-trend has not only to do with the ecological considerations. Occasionally we have to escape from the hustle and bustle and the pressure of the “human beehive”. Nature doesn’t care what or who you are, and that puts our person back into perspective.

There are many different places in Antwerp where these gardens may result.The kaaien,it is a perfect place because the people can enjoy at the same time of the water while they are working and chilling in nature. The MAS (Museum Aan de Stroom) is also a place where there will come gardens. these city gardens don’t have to be crammed together but have to be spread so that there is green everywhere. Het theaterplein is a big square with enough place to create these gardens.Linkeroever is another spot where there is enouh place for these citygardens, in this area there are many meople who are living in a appartment and not having a garden. Meany of the people who are living here has the urge to have a own garden where they can be creative with plants and flowers.
Deze locaties zouden dan gelegen zijn aan de kaaien waar de mensen ook kunnen genieten van het water. Rond het MAS is ook ruimte voor tuintjes, deze tuinen moeten niet met veel bij elkaar gepropt worden maar moeten worden verspreid zodat er overal in de stad meer groen is. Ook op linkeroever is er nog genoeg plaats voor deze stadstuinen, daar wonen veel mensen op appartementen, en hebben veel bewoners behoefte aan een eigen tuintje waar ze zich in kunnen uitleven en creatief kunnen wezen met groenten en bloemen kweken.

WW O u r m o t t o i s s e l f - s u f f i c i e n c y. We want to transform the city of Antwerp to a fully self sufficient city in traffic enlightment. In this frame we investigated possibilities on combining energy saving measurements with conceptual art and d e s i g n . To s u p p o r t t h e r e l a t i v e l y recent introduction of LED technology in the city of Antwerp, we have created a concept in which we build LED sculptures that emit light at night and recharge itself using solar panels or wind turbines d u r i n g t h e d a y. S o t h i s m o n u m e n t is fully disconnected from the energy grid and is an incentive for people to be as much self-sufficient as possible and to damage our environment as little as possible.

H igh efficiency leds Due to a very low power consumption and also a very long life, leds are undoubtedly the light source of the future. LEDs were originally only used for indicators, but now they are making very rapid advances in lighting techniques. There is a strong need to create a self-sufficient, ecological city of Antwerp. The project ‘LED FUTURE BLOOM’ fits perfectly into this framework.
P hotovoltaic C ircuits LEDs work with a low voltage of 2 volts. With a small solar panel much light can already be created. Because the light must shine duri n g t h e d a y, w e w i l l p l a c e a b a t tery post between the solar panel and the LEDs. This battery recharge s d u r i n g t h e d a y, a n d p r o v i d e s t h e monument with electricity at night.

We a l s o scan the possibilities of wind energy in combination with the sculpture, because the permeability can create many opportunities. Because the sculpture represent a collision b e t w e e t n a t u r e a n d t e c h n o l o g y, w e want to let the sculpture “collide� with nature by planting seeds of thin trailing plants so they can grow downwards and add an extra dimension to the sculpture.

BAMBOO GRIDS The main purpose of the concept LED BLOOM is to generate a clash b e t w e e n n a t u r e a n d t e c h n o l o g y. The light sculptures are completely self-sufficient and this is why they are offered in combination with green and wood. Bamboo is a very durable wood structure and a fascinating building material; examples of bamboo-architecture possess a natural aura, which is not reached using other materials. In doing so bamboo unites almost all positive properties: It is good value for m o n e y, n o n - p o l l u t i n g a n d c e r t a i n l y lends itself to use in this context. We h o p e t h a t o u r s t u d i o w i l l g e t the chance to transform this concept into reality.
