FENCES by August Wilson Directed by Kenny Leon B.U. Theatre September 11 – October 11, 2009 PULITZER PRIZE WINNER
August Wilson
When his rise through the Negro baseball leagues hit the ceiling of racial prejudice, Troy Maxson turned away from a world of unfulfilled promises and denied opportunities. But in 1957, his son Cory, an emerging football star, sees the world through very different eyes, and his wife Rose yearns for an outlet for her love. Winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, Fences is the sixth chapter in August Wilson’s groundbreaking ten-play cycle of the AfricanAmerican experience in the 20th century and the ninth of his plays to be staged by the Huntington, one of Wilson’s longstanding artistic homes.

A LONG AND WINDING ROAD Co-conceived by Maureen McGovern and Philip Himberg Directed by Philip Himberg Musical Direction by Jeffrey D. Harris Presented in cooperation with Arena Stage Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA October 9 – November 15, 2009 WORLD PREMIERE
Maureen McGovern
Pop icon Maureen McGovern’s moving musical memoir chronicles the moments that define the Baby Boomer generation, from the hope-filled years of the 1960s, through the dark years of Vietnam and the AIDS crisis, to today’s promise of a better tomorrow. Best known for her breakout hit, the Academy Award-winning “The Morning After,” McGovern returns to her roots as a folk singer as she performs the classic songs The New York Times has dubbed “the second half of the Great American Songbook” including the music of Bob Dylan, Carole King, Randy Newman, The Beatles, James Taylor, and many more.
“ A captivating musical scrapbook from the 1960s to the early '70s. Ms. McGovern is blessed with a vocal technique second to none.” — The New York Times

A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS: An American Musical Celebration by Paula Vogel Music supervised, arranged, and orchestrated by Daryl Waters B.U. Theatre • November 13 – December 13, 2009 NEW HOLIDAY TREAT
Paula Vogel
On Christmas Eve, 1864, stories of President and Mrs. Lincoln, a rebel soldier, and an escaped slave intertwine into a tapestry of collective American experience. This new play by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive) gives the challenges of a young nation facing its greatest moral test an inspiring and insightful look. Promising to be an instant family classic, this production includes beloved holiday music and will be enhanced by local choirs caroling before each performance.
“ Holiday entertainment of the most deeply satisfying kind.” – The Boston Globe
ALL MY SONS by Arthur Miller Directed by David Esbjornson B.U. Theatre • January 8 – February 7, 2010 TONY AWARD WINNER
Arthur Miller
Joe Keller strives for the American Dream, but two years after WWII’s end, his family still suffers from its aftershocks. When Chris, the elder son, announces his plan to marry his still missing-in-action brother’s fiancée, a mother must confront her denial, a son his father’s fallibility, and a father his true responsibilities. Arthur Miller’s powerful story about personal responsibility won the 1947 Tony Award for Best Play and catapulted him among the ranks of America’s greatest playwrights.
“ A searing drama of morality and conscience that has as much to say to America now as it did in 1947.” – Variety
