Tracker rates are the first choice for most borrowers, although it is essential to keep an eye on what is happening in the markets and to consider moving to a fixed product at the time when base rate starts to move upwards. There is usually a flurry of activity at the beginning of each year in any case and this has been more noticeable in recent months as people wake up to the fact that property prices are negotiable and that interest rates are low the lowest in fact that they will probably ever see in their lives.
