incubating ideas with core
From incremental process improvements to transformational innovations, CORE coordinates and incubates Thornton Tomasetti’s internally funded research and development.
INNOVATION AT OUR CORE CORE comprises two intersecting groups. CORE studio supports short- and medium-term project needs by developing and implementing advanced computational tools. CORE lab focuses on long-term development of new methods, capabilities and products through internally administered R&D projects.
The hackathon at AEC Tech, Oct. 2017
Innovation is at the heart of CORE. We continually solicit research proposals from our staff, and host innovation tournaments twice a year, selecting the most promising ideas for research funding. Projects have encompassed such wide-ranging areas as performance-based fire design, photogrammetry, design automation, earthquake protection, vibration monitoring, 3D printing, sustainable design, life-cycle management and artificial intelligence. Products and technologies developed through CORE can be applied internally or commercialized through TTWiiN (see reverse). Each year, CORE’s AEC Tech, a four-day event consisting of professional workshops, a symposium and a hackathon, welcomes participants from AEC firms, software developers and universities around the world. Since its 2013 inception, the hackathon has produced dozens of open-source software releases.
