WHY US? Experience Here’s How
Whether it’s an academic medical center, specialty hospital or ambulatory care center, creating healthcare facilities requires highly specialized experience. We’re skilled at balancing the competing demands of these projects. Fine-tuning a structure to optimize patient care, swiftly changing equipment and technologies, regulatory compliance, staff productivity, continuity of operations and the need to expand or modify over time? That’s a challenge we love to tackle, each and every time.

Our innovative resilience strategy safeguarded MSKCC’s premier cancer center from flooding while vastly improving the patient experience. Since the building lies within a 100-year flood zone, we incorporated such safety measures as operable barriers that will rapidly deploy in the event of a flood. Our design for extremely heavy loads allowed linear accelerator vaults and other large equipment (usually confined to ground or below-grade levels) to be placed on the upper floors, above the flood line. LEED Gold certified. ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards, National Recognition Award, 2021 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards, Diamond Award, Structural Systems, 2021 Interior Design, Healthcare – Best of Year Awards, 2021 ENR New York, Best Health Care and Project of the Year Finalist, 2020 IIDA Healthcare Design Awards, Transformation and Innovation Award, 2020

Located over a future Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) tunnel expansion, this new three-story, 61,743-square-foot medical office building serves the downtown San José community, offering urgent care, examination rooms, radiology and pharmacy services, and a blood laboratory. Our structural design for the steel-framed building uses moment frames at the lateral system to preserve flexibility. The exterior combines precast concrete panels and spandrel glazing. A new four-story bed tower added 150 beds and 96 surgical single-patient rooms to the capacity of one of the busiest veterans’ hospitals in the nation. We performed structural engineering, protective design and connection design for the 240,000-square-foot facility, as well as a one-story pavilion that functions as the main entrance to both buildings. Structural systems were selected to meet the challenges of poor soil conditions and progressive collapse for this fast-track design-build project. LEED Silver certified.
