WHAT WE DO With a wide range of expertise, we provide clients with solutions for a variety of transportation structures. BRIDGE CONTRACTOR SUPPORT SERVICES Our geotechnical and structural engineers assist bridge builders with a range of services that increase efficiency and forestall problems during construction and demolition. • Bridge Foundations • Support of Excavation for Bridges • Erection Engineering for Bridges • Demolition Engineering for Bridges

BRIDGE DESIGN Our staff is experienced in bridge rehabilitation and new bridge design, as well as seismic and wind investigations and retrofits. We develop effective, cost-efficient, sustainable and resilient designs with the goal of meeting – and exceeding – the needs and expectations of our clients. Areas of expertise include: • Long-Span/Complex Bridges

BRIDGE INSPECTIONS We offer bridge condition inspection services to meet a variety of client needs, from biennial, special, and in-depth inspections to emergency response and repairs. We also provide resident engineering inspection and management services during construction.

ALWAYS INNOVATING We bring fresh thinking to intractable problems. Our Transportation practice has long been at the forefront of efforts to evaluate and counter the effects of corrosion, fatigue and extreme events in long span and suspension bridges. We continue to develop new solutions for ongoing challenges, such as refining orthotropic deck design to provide a 100-year life at a lower cost, developing a method to dehumidify oil-filled cables or inventing a new way to determine tension in bridge suspenders using high-speed video.

• Bridge Condition Inspections • Bridge Resident Engineering Inspection (REI)

BELOW-GRADE ENGINEERING We provide structural and geotechnical engineering expertise for a wide range of below-grade and transportation infrastructure projects, including subway and roadway tunnel design, investigation, expansion and rehabilitation.

• Bridge Cable Design, Analysis & Inspection • Seismic & Wind Evaluation for Bridges • Conventional Highway Bridges • Pedestrian Bridges

CIVIL ENGINEERING We offer complete planning, design and inspection services for infrastructure construction projects and systems large and small, including highways, arterial and local roadways, plazas, streetscapes and parking lots. We map and design public utility systems, and we provide site civil services for building projects such as stormwater management and LEED certification support. • Site Civil Engineering • Roadway & Highway Design • Parks, Plazas & Streetscapes • Utility Upgrade & Relocation

• Retaining Walls & Support of Excavation • Soil-Structure Analysis • Subway & Underground Structures • Underpinning & Shoring • Sub-Surface Investigations & Foundation Design

SPECIALIZED EXPERTISE Inspection, planning, and design and construction services. Fatigue studies, seismic analyses and retrofits, and cable corrosion. Upgrades for physical security, and fixes for problems unique to long-span bridges and their components. Our work on bridges and transportation infrastructure spans the spectrum. Ramon Ferreira

For New York’s Manhattan Bridge, we performed bridge design engineering on nine separate rehabilitation contracts totaling nearly $1 billion over more than 30 years.

HOW WE WORK IN IT FOR THE LONG RUN On many bridges, we’ve been the leading design consultant for decades. Work on any given bridge can range from design and construction to inspections, physical security upgrades, rehabilitation and other special projects. Many bridges are “old friends” we want to keep for years to come, while also welcoming “new friends” into our portfolio. 0LD INFORMS NEW INFORMS OLD Lessons learned on renovations and inspections improve our designs for new bridges – and vice versa. We assign our people to both, an approach that makes for well-rounded engineers with the ability to excel at both.

WE LOVE THE HARD STUFF Our clients come to us with their most difficult projects. They know we use creativity and cutting-edge analytical tools to craft practical solutions to even the most complex challenges. And we relish the opportunity to develop innovative solutions.

We provided complete design and construction engineering support for a two-span bridge that carries Route 121 over the Little Androscoggin River in Oxford, Maine.

INTEGRATED SECURITY FOR BETTER BRIDGES We don’t just design for typical service loads and tack on security features afterward. We collaborate with our protective design, security and applied science experts to fully integrate physical security into our work from the start. Our engineers even developed the probabilistic risk assessment methodology now recommended by the Federal Highway Administration’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Bridge and Tunnel Security. GEOSTRUCTURAL ENGINEERING RAISES THE BAR FOR UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES We pioneered the optimization of underground structures by combining soil, foundation and structural analyses into a single nonlinear model. This holistic approach produces better, less conservative and more cost-effective plans for excavations and structures, and often shortens construction schedules.
