A WORD FROM TOM Here in our shop in Auburn, Maine, we are well into our fourth decade of designing and building handmade furniture that finds its home from coast to coast. We continue to thrive in a world of global mass production, and we are very proud to say that after all, we are still here, and that we are 60 master craftsmen strong. And so, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our furniture. This year, we wish to highlight a few of the people who have inspired us with their determination and in each case, their heroic strength. From Joan Benoit Samuelson, an American Olympian and like most at Thos. Moser, a proud Mainer, to my second son and master craftsman Andrew Moser, to William Eccles, a Scotsman
whose memory endures in his American descendants, we celebrate the human spirit. To strive, to survive, and to live on. We hope you will enjoy what these individuals have accomplished and inspired amongst these pages. Along with some of our more familiar pieces, we are also proud to introduce several new and evolutionary pieces into our portfolio. While our commitment to simplicity is an enduring characteristic of our furniture, we are thrilled to welcome new artistic interpretation of our characteristic precision and restraint. Our family at Thos. Moser wishes you and yours happiness, peace and inspiration for 2015.

Joanie and Tom sign trophy boxes.

BEACON BOX The Beacon Box was inspired by the one created in honor of US Olympian, Joan Benoit Samuelson, and the 17th annual TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race that she founded and proudly chairs in her home state of Maine. The idea for such a keepsake box came about when Joanie and Tom Moser had the chance to meet at our Freeport Showroom. Tom’s son and master craftsman, Andy Moser, furthered their idea, and in summer 2014, the boxes were awarded as a trophy to the winners of each class of the Beach to Beacon 10k Road Race, nationally recognized as one of the top road races in the country. The Beacon Box, like all Thos. Moser furniture, is handmade at our shop in Auburn, Maine, and incorporates dovetail joinery, a signifier of Thos. Moser quality and craftsmanship.

THE ECCLES CUP The facts are these: A great-great-great grandson so inspired by his great-great-great grandfather that on the occasion of a family reunion, he gave these small gifts, one to each descendant, in his grandfather’s honor. The story is this: Grandson and Moser customer, Ben, called Jessica in the Customer Care Center asking for our help. Could Thos. Moser replicate egg cups similar to those his Grandfather Eccles used to make? How beautifully the growth rings in the wood would mirror the many lives his grandfather had touched. Turns out that William Eccles, for whom this cup was named, was a blind lathe worker from Scotland whose passion was for turning wood, and whose livelihood would depend on selling these and other goods door to door with his son David. In 1863 William and his family, as it happens, would emigrate to America and settle in Utah. David would become a successful businessman in timber, amongst other things. Over the course of 150 years, William’s family story would become, perhaps predictably so, one of real life rags to riches. These handmade egg cups represent a beloved man, but most importantly, to his family and to all who love true stories, they are a modest yet mighty reminder that such a fighting spirit actually lived in William Eccles, 1825 to 1903. We thought them worth offering.

VITA LIGHTS "In thinking about offerings for the gift guide, I happened to be admiring the Vita collection, designed by my brother David, and one of our customer favorites. In keeping with the simplicity and the curvature of its form, I created Vita Lights for the holidays to complement his collection’s more contemporary sensibility. This led me to develop several other candle holders, in cherry and walnut. I hope you will enjoy them." — Andy Moser

GIVE AN EXPERIENCE THAT THEY WILL CHERISH FOREVER Since 2007, our Customer in Residence (CIR) program has welcomed hundreds of customers, from across the country and around the world, to our Auburn, Maine shop. During the week-long CIR session, our master craftsmen guide each participant through every step in the production of their very own Thos. Moser piece — from raw material selection to finishing.

"I was thoroughly pleased with the whole Customer-in-Residence experience. The group as a whole, as well as all the Moser people, were interesting and fun to be with. What a great program!" Dick T Charlotte, North Carolina — one of the legions of CIR graduates.

If you — or someone you know — share our passion for the art of fine woodworking, this program offers a unique opportunity to learn the intricacies of traditional joinery, the satisfaction of shaping hardwood, and the process of applying natural finishes. You’ll have the opportunity to work with the Moser team and fellow attendees, sharing experiences during daily meetings and at two special group dinners. Participants stay at the historic Harraseeket Inn in Freeport with ample free time to explore Freeport and surrounding areas.
