who WE ARE
Co-founders Gwen Weinberg & Anita Nadelson's friendship began in the hills of Tuscany while studying on a college program abroad. They stayed in touch for the next decade, through Gwen's move from Philadelphia to the west coast and Anita's years of working and traveling around the world, eventually coming back together in Anita's hometown of Seattle. The two took advantage of the city's nurturing entrepreneurial culture and combined their skills -- Gwen's at making things and Anita's at selling them -- to create Three by Three Seattle.

Gwen exhibited the potential of a career in industrial design from a very young age, much preferring scissors, construction paper and glue to all other toys. Born in Philadelphia and now living in Seattle and Lisbon, Portugal, Gwen received informal training in art and design at a few universities on both US coasts after obtaining an undergraduate degree in psychology and art history from University of Pennsylvania. She now considers it a gift for her own design vision to have not been boxed into one formal sensibility in her training; from the start of her career, beginning as a jeweler, metalsmith and bookbinder, Gwen’s designs have always gone beyond the obvious, standard solution, from her innovative use of materials, to her unexpected proportions, to her concepts that forge entirely new product categories. Currently, Gwen is happy to be re-focussing on paper goods, returning not only to her early design years’ bookbinding roots, but going all the way back to one of her earliest childhood pleasures.

Anita always wanted to run her own business. Her entrepreneurial spirit appeared at a young age, selling Bubble Yum on the playground in her hometown of Seattle. After earning a history degree from Connecticut College, she spent several years traveling the world and working in Paris, Florence, and New York. Both her business acumen and her love of travel have rubbed off on her three children, who have enjoyed several successful lemonade stands and schoolyard businesses. Anita has integrated the lessons learned from her passions and her varied work history into her business philosophy: have patience, take advantage of any opportunities that arise, treat everyone respectfully, and never stop innovating. She believes this code of ethics and transparency has cemented Three by Three Seattle’s reputation for quality, customer service, and integrity.

slideSHOW™ DISPLAY SHELF The slideSHOW Display Shelf is making its debut as the newest addition to Three by Three Seattle’s innovative product line. With hidden grooves in the base, the shelves can be readjusted any time, making it as versatile as it is beautiful! Whether displaying a tall vase or a small collectible, the slideSHOW will fit in any setting and provide the perfect solution to tired displays. “I’ve always loved mixing materials,” says designer Gwen Weinberg. “Metal and wood is my favorite combination; the warmth of wood balances the sleek, practical nature of metal. I wanted to make a sophisticated, functional piece that fits in any wall space. The slideSHOW is the result.” The slideSHOW features a veneered plywood base and three powder-coated metal shelves that can freely slide side-to-side, making it an essential piece in keeping a home or office looking fresh and modern. copper magnetic strip BULLETIN BOARDS Three by Three Seattle is incorporating copper into their line of Magnetic Strip Bulletin Boards. The rosy hue is a classic complement to any decor. Whether displaying photos or artwork, invitations or reminders, these new Copper Magnetic Strip Bulletin Boards are an eye-catching addition to Three by Three Seattle’s versatile line of magnetic boards. When asked what inspired her to create this finish, designer Gwen Weinberg said, “The whole purpose of our line is to allow people to coordinate with their design scheme, and that’s what compelled us to expand into warm metals. This avant-garde tabletop sketchpad eliminates the need to scramble to find colored pencils and paper when inspiration strikes. The Chunky jOTBLOCK boasts thick sketch paper and slots for the included colored pencils, making it easy to keep everything close at hand. Whether professional artist or at-home doodler, anyone can find their inner artist with the Chunky jOTBLOCK. “With the early and immediate success of the ground-breaking jOTBLOCK last summer, I decided to explore other ways of combining supplies and paper. I wanted to create something that is useful and decorative, something that would inspire. This led me to design a sketchpad that incorporates art supplies as part of the pad itself, and I especially love the chunky proportions,” says designer Gwen Weinberg.
