Following government advice, Town Hall Symphony Hall (THSH) is closed. But the iconic concert halls cannot be silenced and today we will broadcast in collaboration with European Concert Halls from across the continent. Music has the power to bring people together and we are pleased to be enabling audiences to come together in the safety of a digital space. “Music has the power to bring people together. Our Facebook Watch Parties are ensuring that audiences can do just that. Self-isolation does not need to mean people are isolated from their communities. Town Hall Symphony Hall is committed to bringing live music to our city and this Facebook Watch Party will provide an opportunity for our friends to continue their discovery of the best of Brum’s musicians.” NICK REED Chief Executive “As part of Town Hall Symphony Hall’s commitment to the next generation of musicians, each year we appoint an Organ Scholar who – in addition to assisting the highly respected City Organist, Thomas Trotter – gains access to the outstanding fourmanual Klais organ in Symphony Hall. Audiences, for the first time ever, will be able to watch an online broadcast of the current Organ Scholar, Mie Berg, playing the 6,000 pipe instrument in place of our regular Lunchtime Organ Recital.” TOKS DADA Classical Programme Manager
Mie Berg Mie Othelie Berg comes from Bodø in Norway and is a third-year PhD student at the University of Birmingham, where her project looks at the civic organ tradition in the Midlands, between 1834 and 1914. Prior to this, she trained as an organist at NTNU Instiutt for Musikk in Trondheim, Norway, and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Copenhagen. She is the current organ scholar at Birmingham Town Hall & Symphony Hall, as well as holding the Dame Gillian Weir Organ Scholarship at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
“Birmingham was the first place to have a town hall organ to put on affordable recitals for everyone, and that’s been happening ever since. It’s cool to be a part of that living tradition.” Mie Berg
