Studying Business Marketing course, Boom has an intensive skill in advertising to lure the customer. She was in a business team in the first year and sold the products out in two days with very high profits. She said there were plenty of skills she studied at school to apply into the real market. She was quite satisfy with what success she archived. In the future, she would become a businesswoman with a high salary in the famous company.
‘Fashion is what you adopt when you don’t know who you are.’ Quentin Crisp. Fashion seems to be untouchable. It can’t be precisely define by a certain standard. Normally, people cannot get a correct perception of their skills or traits. They have not decided what career related to their traits yet; they can just decide what they should do after learning skills. As Boom Jong, fashion comes to her lifet accidently. Two years ago, I acquainted with Boom Jong through one of my friend living in Newcastle. They were both second year students. It was such a rainy and cloudy day. Sitting next to the big window to watch the wet street, three of us had a great and intimate conversation about our career and how related with our studies. 32
However, it will not be surprised if I randomly don’t meet Boom in London. I was on the way to have an appointment, I saw her at the Holborn underground station. She looked 100% different that I could not r ecognize. It took me a few minutes to find the name of the stranger had calling my name. It was a surprise that she is Boom, the person I met two year ago. We asked each other fast questions in a very short time. I had to get off at the next station. I was waiting at the Steak House near China Town, in the busy London evening; Boom came with a big smile and hug. We had a warm dinner together. ‘How are you doing, Boom?’ – Excitedly asked I. It was thrilled to hear her story, which has extremely changed her look. Took-off the black sheepskin-flying jacket, she sat in front of me and told me a story. She had just finished the second year, her mother advised her to find a placement for one gap year then continue her final year.
She wanted to find a placement related to her study and that would be a big chance for her to put the experience in the CV. There were a lot of placements in famous business and marketing companies. After being refusing seven places, she finally had an interview at Alexander McQueen located in London. It was a big surprise and amazing chance for her. Of course, she came to London immediately. But, the placement was not the marketing placement, which she applied for. It was a fashion stylist. She didn’t know what to decide then she still took it when the manager said she should try for 2 weeks for the trial time. Within two golden weeks, she tries hard to catch up a new arena, get more information about Fashion Stylist work; she showed all her traits about fashion.
The manager appreciated Boom’s capacity and she was officially in charged this fashion stylist placement.
‘I accidently become a fashion stylist’ -
said young and ambitious Boom. Learning theory, business skills, wearing active t-shirt with simply jeans and a smart look glasses: there is no longer her life She is now a creative stylist and has legend in fashion. She mixes and wearing trendy outfits (She wasvv wearing a black embellished collar dress, an expensive black sheepskin-flying jacket, tan 70’s knee high boots). She looks fashionable, particular and great.
Working in the best place as Alexander McQueen gave her many opportunity to catch the real life of fashion. What she looks, what she works are the real fashion world. It was amazing when she first time worked in the studio with famous people: photographers, models… The fashion stylist work seemed to be very hard but she can do creatively with her best ideas. Fashion accidently and truly came to her. It is never too late for people to find things they like, have ambition and willing to work hard with
Do you shop somewhere outside Alexander McQueen? - ‘Of-course, I like to shop many different brands. I have a discount card from my company but I cannot afford for the whole outfits from this famous brand with my small salary (smiles).’ Where do you shop most? - ‘I’m in Topshop so much they must think I’m srealing. I also love Zara and Missselfridge.’
Working at an amazing place like Alexander McQueen, What else How often do you go shopping? do you think you have learned? ‘I shop every week. Weekends are my best time.’ - ‘ I’d love to say that it’s a time manager. I never know it and never use it before. There are many perfect ideas for and think that I’ve got nothing to officers to relax, entertain and take a wear. Then I want to buy clothes and break in the company. Who are your favourite designers? - ‘Alexander McQueen, ofcourse. Coco Chanel and Christian Dior are also my idols.’ Boom Jong is a young fashion stylist. She has a big chance to change her life and accumulate her experiences. The way she came to fashion is the way we should consider. Nothing is too late to change a thing.
