APPY NEW YEAR and welcome 2018! With the start of each new year, we make resolutions. We say that this year will be the year that we stick to our plans. But what are we resolving to do? We don’t have to make grand gestures. We need to remember the small things. Being nice goes a long way. Why be rude to the clerk in the checkout line? Why put others down when instead we could lift them up? Why don’t we treat others the way we would like to be treated? Chances are that being nice to others will make you feel better as well. And wouldn’t we all like to be happier? I know I would. That’s my resolution this year: To be a nicer, better version of myself. The beauty of New Year is the vision of a clean slate, a time where we can start fresh and hopefully make the changes that we want to see in our lives.

“DELIVERED FROM GUILT” It’s not the sin that destroys you, it’s the guilt. Along with the guilt comes torment and pain. Sin cannot separate you from God, it’s the guilt that makes you hide. When we do sin, that’s the time to run to God not away from Him. All suicides come from guilt and not sin. It’s the weight of guilt that drives people to addiction, to cover it up. Luke 7:36-50 we read the first event regarding the Alabaster Box, a sinner woman, and a Pharisee.” Not to be confused with the similar event of Matthew & Mark. It was the “Pharisees” (Religion) that first noticed in Luke 7:37 “…which was a sinner” and vs. 39 “…for she is a sinner.” Everybody including herself recognized “she was a sinner.” The first thing we must do is to own our mistakes. Sometimes we subconsciously change our sin story to justify our sin by making excuses for it. But if we don’t own it, then God can’t help us with it because God only deals in truths! John 5:1-9 “there was a lame man that had laid beside the pool of Bethesda for 38 years, waiting for an angel to trouble the water, the first one in the pool would be healed. Jesus asked him the same question that He is asking us today; “will thou be made whole?” The lame man gave Jesus several excuses why he couldn’t get to the pool, but that wasn’t what Jesus asked, “will thou be made whole?” Let’s stop giving God our excuses why we failed and just own it. ,This lame man’s excuses cost him 38 years of infirmity. Luke 7:38 “she stood at His (Jesus) feet weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed His feet.” Vs. 39 “When the Pharisee saw it, he said to himself; if this man was a Prophet He would have known who & what manner of woman this is that touches Him.” This Pharisee (Religion) now challenges the validity of Jesus’ ministry because of the associations that he keeps. Jesus allowed her to touch Him because He was a Prophet. “You can’t change people that you can’t touch.” Remember, it was the religious people that crucified Jesus and it was the sinners that loved Him. When I look at this radical love that this “Sinner woman” had for Jesus, I can understand it. After the life that I personally once lived, the blackness that once covered my life, I clearly understand this radical love for Christ because radical forgiveness bring forth a radical love for the King of Kings. I did everything I could do January 2018

to cover up my guilt. I drank it up, shot it up, smoked it up, and snorted it up. When Christ ask me the question; “will thou be made whole?” it reminded me of the old Gospel song; “What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus, what can make me WHOLE again; nothing but the blood of Jesus.” If you knew her story, you could understand her tears. Just make sure that you Christians never take Jesus for granted and stop worshipping Him. Sometimes when we get use to something, we stop taking care of it, stop appreciating it, and stop valuing it. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

E ARE ALWAYS looking for destinations and events, with different things bikers would enjoy. Bikers love speed and tight curves, so how about an air race where planes reach speeds of 250 mph, make impossible turns around a pylon course at 10 g’s and fly 50 feet above the ground? October 10-14, Red Bull ended their worldwide race series at the Indy Speedway. History was made when Melanie Astles, from France, became the first female to win a speed event of any sort at Indy, and the first to win a Red Bull Air Race. Astles posted the fastest qualifying speed on Saturday besting the 5 other Challenger (compares with NASCAR’s Xfinity series) pilots, requiring only 1.02849 minutes to complete the 3.7 mile course. Due to weather delays on Sunday, Challenger races were cancelled and Astles was declared the winner. Florian Berger of Germany, was crowned Challenger World Grand Champion. Yoshihide Muroya of Japan won the Master series (compares with NASCAR Monster Energy) over 13 other qualifiers and became Masters World Champion. Indy 500 2017 Champion, Takuma Sato, also from Japan, worked with Muroya’s team and joined him in kissing the bricks.

The Air Race series began in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and went to: San Diego; Chiba, Japan; Budapest, Hungary; Kazan. Russia; Porto, Portugal; Lausitzring, Germany; and ended at Indianapolis. The race teams travel and stay together, as do the planes and equipment, requiring two 747’s and 40 sea freight containers. Winners don’t win prize money, just a trophy and a salary. The pilots are the best of the best stunt pilots in the world, and are required to obtain a Challenger license and perform exceptionally, and then obtain a Master license, to be able to wait their turn to move up to the Master Class. These races are definitely a test of skill. All Challenger racers are furnished an Edge 560 plane, with no modifications allowed. Master racers have a choice of Edge 560, MX-R, or Extra 330LX with only aerodynamic modifications allowed. All planes have Lycoming 540 cu in, 320 hp (dynoed to within 1 hp) engines, and Hartzel 3 blade props. Engines and props are sealed to prevent modification, except for tuning. The challenging course at Indy was 3.7 miles, marked with 85 foot pylons, with the racers flying singly, for time. The course required planes in level and sideway positions, with the pilot’s head within a proscribed location. The pylons are specially designed to tear easily to avoid crashing the plane and can be repaired in 2 or 3 minutes. I was fortunate to catch some pictures of planes tearing pylons. They inflate like a bouncy house, with a blower maintaining a specific pressure. Judy and I were invited to visit the inside of a pylon (see picture). What great fun! Also adding to the event were an aerobatic helicopter (loops?), paraglider, wing suit jump, stunt biker, and TORC truck. If you are looking for something totally different to do next year, check out airrace.redbull.com. Qualifying will be held on Saturday, October, 6, and the Finals will be on Sunday October 7. Ticket prices go up during the year, so reserve prior to June 30, for the lowest prices. This is the only race in the US next year and may be the last at Indy. Tickets are available on indianapolisspeedway. com. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper January 2018

Bubba - I’m a 4 year old bloodhound with a nose for fun. I’m heartworm negative and very friendly. I like to hike, run, swim, and eat. Boy, can I eat! Probably because I’ve been so thin for so long. I’m good with female dogs, dominant with male dogs, great with older kids I can’t knock over. I’ve been told that I like cats and chickens in the wrong way. I can’t help they make funny noises that makes me chase them. So if you’re looking for a trail buddy, I’m all yours.

Duane - I’m a 5 year old paperweight. I like nothing better than to lay about and eat. I need a diet. I’m not good with kids, so I’d be better off in a quiet, adult home. I’m fixed, FLV/FIV negative, and ready to go. Do you have space for a couch potato?

Kitilda - I’m a 2 year old girl who aspires to be a love goddess. I will cuddle, love, and sometimes kiss. I can be a diva with other cats, but I adjust quickly. I love kids. I don’t trust dogs. Nothing that makes such and aweful racket and drools like that could be good for anyone. I’m fixed, FLV/FIV negative, and prepared for the pedestal, if you please. Do you have room for the love today?

Dirty - I’m a 1 year old boy with a sense of fun and adventure. I’m still learning the leash, but am making large strides. I like some dogs, so introduction is best. NO CHICKENS. I like older kids. I like mud and cuddling... in that order. I’m a great buddy, can I be yours?

Domino - I’m a 1 year old girl who is the sweetest. I’m so calm and wellbehaved that no one can believe I’ve been at the shelter almost 3 months. I love to cuddle. I’ve never met a stranger, human or animal. I’m heartworm negative and ready for my own place. Can you spare some space for a loving girl? I promise to repay it in kisses and cuddles. Donald - I’m a 3 year old goofball with whiskers of curiosity. I love to investigate. I’m good with older kids, but I’ll run from small kids. I take after a lot of Donalds today as I am outgoing, vocal, and like the duck, love to explore. I’m fixed, FLV/FIV negative, and exhilarated to go to a home of my own. Do you have an opening for someone so, I’m gonna say, great?

Maddie - I’m a 3 year old girl who loves to walk. I could hike for days. I also love to ride, once you get me in the car. I am heartworm negative and active. I am dog dominant, so I take some introducing to other dogs in the home. I would be best in a family with older (7+) kids as I want to kiss everyone and might knock little ones down. You ready for the trail head, buddy?

Tuxedo - I’m a 1 year old boy who loves to love. I snuggle, cuddle, kiss, and hug. I’m a little active, but mostly because I want to love you SO MUCH! I do well with other dogs, kids, and some cats. Do you have a pad I can crash on? It’d be totally groovy if you did.

Bullet Points SEMI-AUTO PISTOL MAINTENANCE

H

APPY NEW YEAR, fellow bikers! I hope your Christmas, or Hanukkah, was very blessed and that your 2018 is full of riding and adventures.

After years of being a range safety officer (RSO), it has always amazed me to see how little care and maintenance the average shooter puts into their pistols – a tool they may need to use to protect themselves, their family or their friends. When someone on the range was having difficulties with failures to eject – or failures to chamber - I could generally run a snake through the barrel, and lube things up a bit, and their problems would often go away. But that type of maintenance is little more than a Band-Aid. While I may be a bit obsessive about cleaning and lubricating my pistols, I know I can count on them to go “BANG!” every time I pull the trigger. I clean and lubricate my pistols after every range session. Others do it every three or four times they go to the range. There may be a happy medium somewhere in between. Before I leave the range, I will disassemble my pistol and run a cleaning snake through the barrel. This helps remove excess carbon and powder – potentially making the gun more reliable when driving back to my shop. Once back in my shop, I remove the magazine and cycle the slide twice to verify there is not a cartridge loaded in the pipe – DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS – not once, but twice. There have been many accidental discharges because this step was not followed – with far too many deaths and injuries to count. Next, I completely disassemble the pistol and thoroughly clean the slide, the external parts of the barrel, the frame, the recoil spring and guide rod. If I have shot the pistol a lot, I will disassemble the magazines and thoroughly clean all the parts – with special attention given to the follower – which pushes the cartridge up into the slide – which in turn chambers the cartridge in the barrel as the pistol goes into battery. Once all parts are clean, I move to the barrel. I prefer the Otis cleaning kit, as the cleaning cloths and wire brushes are pulled through in the same direction the bullet travels the barrel. I alternate between a cleaning cloth lightly dipped in Hoppe’s 9 solvent and the wire cleaning brush. I continue to

January 2018

alternate between the two until the cloth comes out clean. At this point, many shooters reassemble the pistol, load it up and are done. I do a bit more to make my pistol more reliable and protect its moving parts. I use Brian Eno’s Slide Glide Lite, in colder weather, or Shooter’s Choice slide grease, when warmer, to lubricate the parts of the frame where the slide moves during firing cycles. Without proper lubrication, your slide/frame will wear. Remember - a little grease goes a long way – applying too much will make a mess of things when the pistol cycles. Don’t forget that there are spots on the top of the frame where the slide makes contact. Apply a little slide lubricant there too. Next, I apply a very light amount of Hoppe’s gun oil to the ramp in the frame and the ramp on the bottom of the barrel. Lastly, I will run a cleaning patch through the barrel, with a very small amount of oil on it. This will protect the barrel. Reassemble your pistol, and cycle the slide several times to make sure there is no binding. Taking proper care of your pistol will protect your investment and will allow it to operate trouble free when you need it most. One final thought: make sure you have shot plenty of your personal protection ammo through your pistol at the range, before you rely on that brand in the real world. Some pistols may not like certain brands of ammunition Until next month, ride often, ride safe and keep the shiny side up! Molon Labe, Mike Noirot

wreck, earlier this year. But she soldiered on, posing with young and old alike, while having to double up with Steve on a trike to lead the group through downtown Nashville. Meanwhile, the HOG Chapters provided lots of breakfast goodies, for the riders, while they waited,

Once again Steve Welsh and Stacie Ludford stood in for Santa and Mrs. Claus. Mrs. Claus showed off a fashionable leg brace complete with garter, due to Stacie’s bad motorcycle

The parade began in the Nashville Rescue Mission parking lot on Murfreesboro Road, headed down Broadway and wound its way to Fesslers Lane and Boswells. There the riders enjoyed burgers and beverages while awaiting the drawing for a $1,000 Boswell’s gift card. The lucky winner was Terry Bartlett.

T TOOK THREE attempts, beginning on October 28th and finally achieved on December 16th, but Boswell’s Toy Parade was a success. Although the first two scheduled dates were cancelled due to cold, rainy weather, the 16th turned out to be fair and sunny. Despite the previous delays and a change of venue, the parade drew about 600 motorcycles and raised approximately $13,000 for Metro Police Charities.

Each of these programs supports kids and their families, who are recommended, as being good kids, though underprivileged. Boswell’s HOG Chapter Members also meet on Christmas Eve morning to assist police deliver food baskets. They, also, help the kids shop, and visit the camp. I have participated in several of these charities and it is money well spent. Thanks to all the generous bikers and to Boswells for making this event a success. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! TECH TIPS

TEN WAYS TO KEEP RIDING IN WINTER

T

HE ARRIVAL of cold weather doesn’t mean

the we don’t want to ride. Many motorcyclists in cooler climates refuse to retire their favorite motorcycle to the storage shed – and, thanks to today’s wide range of gear choices, it’s entirely possible to enjoy two wheels right through the winter months. Here are ten tips if you – and your bike – are on the road when temperatures drop. • Get Layered. Layering will keep you insulated and warm. Start with a light base layer that’s breathable – microfiber is a good choice. Your base layer should trap warm air next to your skin and wick away sweat. Make sure your top layer is made of tough, windproof material, such as leather or nylon. Be sure layering clothing hasn’t restricted the movement you need to ride safely. • Trap Body Heat. Keeping your hands and head warm is crucial – most of your body heat escapes there. To seal the gap between jacket and gloves, invest in gauntlet-style gloves. Consider wearing a silk or microfiber layer under your gloves as well. In addition, invest in a neck warmer or balaclava to prevent cold air from entering your helmet. • Don’t Get Foggy. Visor fogging can cause hazardous visibility problems during cold weather. Wear a half-mask inside your helmet over a windproof balaclava. This combo allows your breath to escape without causing condensation inside the visor. • Ride on Down Electric Avenue. Longer trips often require additional protection, such as electric vests and gloves. These accessories use your bike’s electrical system to provide heat. A vest, electric or regular, is essential to keeping the torso warm. A warm torso prevents frostbite by allowing the heart to focus on pumping blood to the hands and feet. Or, spring for the heated grip option available on many touring bikes. • Watch the Voltage. Be sure your alternator can handle the addition of electric accessories, such as heated vests and gloves. Check your owner’s

January 2018

manual to find out how much wattage your alternator generates and how much of that wattage is used to run lights and other electrical components. Then, subtract the wattage the electric gear needs to be sure you have the power necessary, and some to spare, when running the accessories. • Get Streamlined. Direct chilly air away from your body by adding a functional, not just cosmetic, fairing. Your height and torso length will dictate the proper height of the fairing – if a stock product doesn’t manage the airflow correctly, have a fairing custom cut or try a different windshield. • Don’t Get Fooled. Hypothermia can sneak up on you. If you ignore early symptoms, like uncontrolled shivering and numb fingers or toes, slow reaction times or fuzzy thinking, you could get into trouble, fast. Wind chill adds to the danger, so make sure you stop frequently, enjoy a hot beverage and allow your body to warm up. • Practice Tire Smarts. If you use sticky race-type tires in the summer, be sure to switch back to ordinary street tires during colder months. They develop grip at lower temperatures and reach effective operating temperatures much more quickly. • Put Your Oil on a Diet. Using thinner oil during the cold months will improve your bike’s performance, especially during start-up, but check your owner’s manual for recommendations. Some manufacturers recommend only one weight of oil, no matter what the temperature. • Rev Up Your Insurance I.Q. Make sure your insurance policy allows for year-round riding. Many insurance premiums for motorcycles are based on an annual term that already takes into consideration the variances in use throughout the year. Because if that, a discount for the limited use off-season is already reflected in your annual costs. However, if your policy requires your bike be laid up during certain months, you may not be as protected as you think.

RIDER SAFETY PERSONAL SAFETY - DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?

H

APPY NEW YEAR! As we ride into 2018

looking forward to new adventures and roads to travel, keep safe riding on your list of New Year’s resolutions. Let’s start our new year with personal safety and review our safety gear. If you ask any rider what his or her safety gear consists of, you’re likely to hear something like helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, glasses and pants. That covers all the areas we want to protect, right? Well, almost.

Hearing protection should be a part of your safety gear. Take a minute to think about all your riding buddies and how many of them (including yourself) wear any type of hearing protection. How many could you think of? Most motorcyclists consider a full-face helmet to constitute hearing protection. If you wear a full-face helmet, then you are aware that wind noise is always there, even with a windshield. Sound is measured in a unit known as a decibel and the higher the decibel level, the louder the noise. If you are riding at 40 mph, wind noise reaching your ears can be 90 decibels. So, as your speed increases so does the decibel level as wind noise increases. Research suggests that our safe exposure limit is about 85 decibels for a 6 to 8 hour period. Wind noise at higher speeds can reach approximately 110 decibels and this exposure can lead to permanent hearing damage in only an hour. The MSF tells us that wearing hearing protection, like foam earplugs, can reduce noise by 33 decibels. These inexpensive foam earplugs can make your ride quieter and more enjoyable. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “Can I hear the important sounds like car horns, traffic and sirens when wearing ear plugs?” The answer is yes. Earplugs will reduce the overall level of sounds. MSF further mentions “ … the overall level of all sounds, the signalto-noise ratio is virtually unaffected, and is actually improved at higher speed since earplugs reduce contact background noise. This allows transient signals such as those from horns and sirens to stand out.” We acknowledge that wind noise can cause hearing damage, what you may not associate with wind noise is that it will also make you tired quicker. A tired rider is a distracted rider. Distracted riders are not riding at their safest potential.

January 2018

There are benefits to wearing earplugs. But, not all states recognize this. States that prohibit wearing ear protection are Ohio, Alaska and Virginia. Some states prohibit wearing earphones that play music. So, it is important for you to check the laws of your state. According to AAA’s driving laws, in the state of Tennessee, there is no prohibition to wearing ear buds while driving. Before you take off on a ride with your ear buds playing your favorite tunes, be aware that in some towns and cities, they do have ordinances in place to ban wearing ear buds, like Bartlett, TN. In others, wearing only one ear bud is permitted. This leaves us with a fuzzy gray area depending on where you are and leaves riders at the discretion of law enforcement. As far as earplugs, with no music involved, you are fine to wear these anywhere in the state of Tennessee. Give earplugs a try for a couple of rides and decide for yourself. A quick search on the Internet will provide you with variety of earplug options. You will find several vendors selling motorcycle specific earplugs with varying levels of filters. You may need to try a few different pairs for fit and comfort. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the American Motorcyclist Association recommend that motorcyclists wear hearing protection while being considerate of state laws. Safe riding starts with you! Donna, along with being an avid riding enthusiast, is a MSF motorcycle safety coach for the state of Tennessee and a HarleyDavidson Riding Academy Coach. She is a member of the Motor Maids, H.O.G. and Ladies of Harley.

2018 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Area Qualifiers and Regional Championships dates announced First Area Qualifiers kick off Feb. 17 PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce the AMA Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule for the 2018 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil.

to other favorites, such as the Southeast’s Muddy Creek Raceway, RedBud MX in the Mid-East and Thunder Valley MX Park in the South-Central region.

“The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is one of the most highly sought after amateur motocross championships in the country,” AMA Motocross Manager Ricky Rickords said. “Competing in Area Qualifiers and qualifying for AMA Regional Championships is the path all racers take for a chance to win an AMA National Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. The AMA and MX Sports have worked diligently to ensure that AMA members and their families are provided the best tracks and racing facilities at each qualifying event.” Area Qualifiers are the first step in qualifying for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship held July 30-Aug. 4 at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. The first of 58 Area Qualifiers begin in February and run through the end of May, across 35 states. Racers of all ages will compete in various engine displacement classes, from 50cc to 450cc, in hopes of moving on to a Regional Championship. The AMA Regional Championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a one of the 13 Regional Championship events are eligible to race the amateur national event at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. “The unveiling of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship schedule is always highly anticipated, not just for the riders but for the organizers,” Director of MX Sports Tim Cotter said. “The facilities and organizers that make up the Area Qualifier and Regional Championships are among the best in the nation. Each race organizer that has been selected is excited that the road to Loretta’s goes through their facility.” This year’s lineup includes many historic tracks, such as Unadilla MX and High Point Raceway in the Northeast. Racing also returns January 2018

The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is one of the longestrunning motorsports championships in the country. The AMA launched the national championship program in 1975. I have shown it in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. I have worked liked crazy and pulled a lot of overtime to fix this bike up and I’m very proud of the way it turned out. I have a few people to thank… Able Candy, Dan Wile, Dave Hackler, and Rick Saunders, they have helped me some much. Special thanks goes to my main man Pete (The Man) Jones, this guy is amazing and this bike would not be where it is today without him. Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: What happened to American POW/MIAs from the Korean, Cold and Vietnam Wars? Despite decades of hard work by the Pentagon and the recovery of many remains, questions remain about the fates of many Americans last reported alive in enemy hands. A new non-profit project has just launched to use multilingual interactive technologies to gather information on “unrepatriated” Americans. The concept is simple: The answers to the mysteries involving many missing Americans are “out there” -- in the hands of people in China, Vietnam, Russia, North Korea, Laos and other countries. The POW Investigative Project (PIP), www.powinvestigativeproject.org, has now put information on US POW/MIAs online in 7 languages, plus English. The PIP asks people who speak those languages and have information to submit it via various channels, including encrypted email. The PIP team includes consultants and advisors such as Bill Bell, the well-known Vietnam veteran, Vietnamese linguist and long-time Pentagon expert on Vietnam POW issues, and Norm Kass, who for many years managed US efforts searching for evidence of US POW/ MIA in the former Soviet Union. “As family members, we know that a wealth of the answers we seek are in the hands of people in Russia, China, North Korea, Vietnam and other places. The PIP is an innovative way to try to reach those people,” said John Zimmerlee, expert on Korean War POW/MIA cases and son of Capt. John H. Zimmerlee (USAF), missing in the Korean War. Indeed, the PIP has already started receiving clues. The PIP includes cases of specific POWs, such as USAF Lt. Gilbert Ashley. Nicknamed “Coogs” after movie star Jackie Coogan, Ashley was piloting a bomber shot down over North Korea during 1953. Ashley and four of his crewmen -Hidemaro Ishida, Arthur Olsen, Lt. John Shaddick, and Lt. Harold Turner -- were captured. The North Koreans holding the Americans confirmed their survival over an extended period of time, even allowing the crew to converse with American officers over the radio. Armed with this information, on July 28, 1953, the day after the Armistice Agreement was signed ending the fighting and requiring US January 2018

POWs to be returned, US officers radioed Ashley. He was instructed to inform his North Korean captors that America knew he and his men were alive and the Communists should take them to a POW exchange point immediately to be returned home. “Communists cannot plausibly deny you are alive,” the US message said. But the North Koreans never released them. Their fates remain unknown. There are similar cases involving US POWs from the Korean War reportedly held by China and taken to the Soviet Union. US intelligence officials reported that other American aviators fell into Soviet and Chinese hands and were never returned during the Cold War. Then came the Vietnam War, where other Americans last known alive were not returned home. The PIP also includes “leads” about detailed sightings of reported US POWs in captivity after these conflicts. Site visitors are asked for information that could resolve these sightings and the fate of the Americans involved with them. Examples include the forensic sketches of two Americans reported alive – by a source who passed a lie detector test -- in a specific Hanoi location after the end of the Vietnam War, along with the detailed report of a Cold War reconnaissance crew being treated in a specific Soviet hospital before disappearing. If these reports are true, the PIP team believes, former communist officials likely have information on them, as might other prisoners or patients from those locations. “PIP welcomes support from Thunder Roads readers, including the many veteran bikers who bear witness with their POW/MIA patches and flags. We ask concerned vets to spread the word about www.powinvestigativeproject.org. We’re especially grateful for vets who share information about the PIP with US immigrants from countries where answers may be found, such as Vietnam, Laos, China, Russia and North Korea,” said Mark Sauter, founder of the PIP and an Army veteran. Never Forget and Leave No Man Behind!!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. SAVE MOTORCYCLING As a devastated motorcycle industry slowly recovered from the big recession nine years ago that decimated domestic sales, it was hit hard by an aging demographic. Reports of declining motorcycles sales blame an aging baby boomer generation, disinterested millennials, unaffordable prices, limited choices for new riders, licensing requirements, closures of off-road riding areas, insurance and registration costs, and a nervous overall economy. Whatever the reason, the situation has reached so dire a point that a group of industry insiders, veteran riders, marketers and motojournalists convened at the recent International Motorcycle Show (IMS) in Long Beach to discuss matters and come up with some solutions to save motorcycling from the steady decline it’s been experiencing in the United States. Former Indian Motorcycle executive Robert Pandya formed the ‘Give A Shift’ group this fall, beginning with a written survey which included 300 participants, and proceeded to a roundtable discussion in Long Beach, on Nov. 16, with 25 of the most ardent influencers. DATE SET FOR RETRIAL OF TWIN PEAKS CASE After a mistrial was declared in the first Twin Peaks case to go to trial in over two years, a spring 2018 trial date has been set for the first defendant to go back on trial in the deadly shootout. The retrial date for Christopher “Jake” Carrizal, 36, will be April 2, the court coordinator for Waco’s 54th District Court determined. A mistrial was declared in the case after the jury couldn’t come to any agreement on the three gang-related charges on which Carrizal was indicted in connection with the 2015 shootout involving police and bikers at Waco’s Twin Peaks restaurant. “At the end of the day they couldn’t, there wasn’t enough evidence that the Dallas Chapter (of the Bandidos MC), and specifically Jake Carrizal, had committed any violence against any person that wasn’t self-defense,” defense attorney Casie Gotro said in response to the ruling. When leaving the McLennan County Courthouse after the hung jury resulted in mistrial, Carrizal said he knew his battle was only beginning. “We’ll fight it another day,” he said.

NEW STUDY FORCASTS STRONG GLOBAL ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE GROWTH A recent study by Infiniti Research Ltd predicts that the electric motorcycle market will grow 42% in the next five years. Reported on military-technologies.net, the detailed analysis includes all major global markets, and identifies marketing strategies and market trends through 2021. “One trend in the market is development of long-mile range motorcycles,” said one analyst on the study team. “Hence, OEMs are continuously working toward the development of battery technology so the mile-range bridge between these motorcycles and ICE (internal combustion) counterparts is reduced.” The report concludes that the most prominent driver in the market is decreasing battery prices, which allows OEMs to push cost benefit toward customers. The market is facing continuous improvement in battery technology, which has the strongest effect on both profitability and adoption rate. The report also states that high purchase prices remain the most challenging prospect for high-performance electric motorcycles. Although while the initial cost of electric motorcycles is higher than equivalent internal combustion powered bikes, the total cost of ownership is less than that of IC-powered bikes due to the latter’s higher fuel and maintenance costs. FULL MOON LINKED TO MOTORCYCLE FATALITIES A Canadian research study published in the British Medical Journal recently found that “distracted drivers, like those who text behind the wheel, are a danger to themselves and to others. Even a brief, momentary glance away from the road can result in lifethreatening consequences.” Motorcycle riders can testify to that, but the research identifies one fatal attraction for motorists that shows up 12 times a year – the full moon. January 2018

“The researchers found that on nights illuminated by a full moon, fatal motorcycle accidents increased by 5% compared to nights without a full moon,” the report concludes. “On evenings when the supermoon decorated the sky, this increased to 32%. The study included 40 years worth of data from the United States, as well as records from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. After analyzing data from the official United States registry of motor vehicle crashes from 1975 to 2014, during which time 494 full moons and 65 supermoons appeared, researchers calculated the number of fatal crashes on full moon nights compared to nights with a quarter moon (one week before and after the full moon). They found 4,994 fatal crashes occurred on the nights with a full moon, which is equal to 9.10 crashes per night. In contrast, a total of 8.64 fatal crashes per night occurred on nights without a full moon. Fatalities increased further under a supermoon, amounting to a total of 703 fatal crashes, or 10.82 fatal crashes per night. This means that for every two full moon nights, there was one additional fatal crash. Under the supermoon, this increased to two additional deaths. Authors of the study believe there are at least three potential explanations for the link between motorcycle deaths and full moons, including lighting effects produced by the moon that may cause riders to misjudge their speed, or that a full moon means more riders -- or other traffic -- might take to the roads. “A different possibility is this idea of distraction -- that glancing up at a full moon takes the rider’s gaze off the road and creates a moment of inattention that can lead to a loss of control,” according to the report. SIMPLE, ALL AMERICAN ROAST BEEF

*If you’ve never cooked a Roast Beef entree, just relax as it’s the simplest thing to do and also very economical to boot. Once you do you’ll be cooking one a week. 3 Lbs. Beef Eye of Round Roast Palmful of whatever type of Salt you prefer, palmful of ground black pepper, palmful of garlic powder. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. If Roast is untied, take plain white cotton twine and tie every 3 inch intervals with twine. *There’s a fancy way to do this and you can Google but for now, let’s just K.I.S.S. it. Smear a drizzle of olive oil in the bottom of a high sided roasting pan lined w/ heavy-duty aluminum foil for easy clean-up. Mix all your spices together thoroughly and rub that Roast down with both hands covering every part of it. This is where you can get creative. If you have certain favorite flavors then add them to the Rub Mix. Or, some people like to lay down all their vegetables on the bottom of pan (or foil) carrots, onions, sliced potatoes, etc. Some people like to use spices combined with a pre-made packet of Pot Roast Seasoning you buy at any bigger store in spice aisle. Place on a rack and let stand for at least 15 minutes while you wait for oven to ding. Roast in oven for 60 minutes (20 mins. per pound). Remove from oven, cover loosely w/ foil and let rest for 15-20 minutes before cutting. Remove twine. Always cut against the grain (the other direction the meat lines are running) so just slice across the meat like you would a loaf of bread and you’ll be fine. If you laid down veggies in bottom of pan, remove to separate platter and cover w/ foil also while yoiu shake juices from foil into a small skillet to use pan juices; add a bottle of Aus’ Juice to pan drippings. Always serve Roast Beef Aus’ Juice and Whipped Horseradish Sauce together. Just take as much bottled Horseradish Sauce as you need and add a cup of Creamy Whip Cream (in a can) and whisk all together until combined but

nice & creamy. Add a Tablespoon of Dijon Mustard and whisk again lightly. Some people like Aus’ Juice to dip their meat in along with the Horseradish sauce. (like me). So dang good! & not fussy to make. K.I.S.S. yupper.

BUTTERSCOTCH PUPPY CHOW

This is definitely a K.I.S.S. quick & easy munchie food thang’. 1 Cup of Butterscotch Chips 3 Tbls. of Unsalted Butter 1/2 tsp. of table salt 6 Cups of Plain Rice-Cereal Squares 1/2 Cup of Powdered Sugar 2 Cups of M&M’s Candy Melt butterscotch ships and butter together in a small saucepan over medium-low heat; stirring constantly. Remove from heat, stir in salt. Drizzle over cereal in a large bowl and gently stir to coat. Transfer mixture to a zip-lock plastic bag and add powdered sugar. Seal bag and shake to coat. Transfer mixture to a rimmed baking sheet to cool completely, about 30 minutes. Stir together mixture and candies in a large bowl. Makes apprx. 8 cups. This Chow will make ya’ chow down, baby!

CINNAMON PLUM WINE COCKTAIL

1 Bottle of Japanese Plum Wine which is delicious all by itself, but to jazz it up a bit, Add: 1 Tbls. of Cinnamon to 1/2 cup of heated orange juice. Pour wine over rocks in a rocks glass, add one tsp. of heated cinnamon orange juice and swirl around to blend. top with an orange peel twisted and rim the glass w/ it too. Whooeee! This will put the razz into your berry. lol

Instead, I’m going to take you home for a shower and a terrific supper home cooked by my wife.” The homeless man was astounded. “Won’t your wife be furious with you for doing that and dragging me in what I’m sure is a fine home?” I quickly replied, “Don’t you worry one bit about that.
