e hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year! I find the New Year to be a good time to look back and look forward. 2020 was exhausting—and really weird. At this point, it has become a social media ritual to post about how long, difficult, and bizarre the past year was, along with your hopes that 2021 will be better. Beyond the loss of life, the novel coronavirus has also caused major shifts in how we work, eat, spend money, travel, and more. Oh, and there’s been a lot going on in politics this past year, too. (How’s that for an understatement?) But while the pandemic and election dominated 2020’s headlines, plenty of other things happened, some of which were especially odd. How about the Pentagon releasing the three videos of UFOs? It seemed too strange—even for 2020. Then we had a high school student discover a new planet and scientists discovered that a giant star had seemingly disappeared. 2020 was a strange year for space. We had the terrifying winged creature called the “murder hornet” that had been spotted in the United States, and what about the obsession with Netflix’s Tiger King? Exotic zoos, murder, mullets, and questionable treatment of animals. I just didn’t get the obsession with it! We can’t forget the broom challenge hoax that went viral. The premise was that according to NASA, on February 10 (and that day only), a broom would be able to stand up straight on its bristles because of the specific type of gravitational pull on that date. Turns out, none of it was true. I didn’t try it, but know many that did. Lastly, the mystery seeds that arrived from China in which the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued warnings, urging people not to plant the mystery seeds, fearing they were some type of invasive species. Turned out it was part of an Internet “brushing” scam, which is one part of the process where merchants invent fake customers and positive reviews to boost their sales. If you have made a New Year’s Resolution, whatever it may be… stick with it, you can do it! The beauty of starting a new year is the vision of a clean slate, a time where we can start fresh and hopefully make the changes that we want to see in our lives. We hope that 2021 brings you much happiness in all that you do and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year! Ride Hard Live Free Denise & Scott

JEFFERSON, TEXAS
O
ccasionally, Judy refers to the book 1,000 Places In The US To See Before You Die, to find new adventures when we are in an area. In this case, she found the historic small town of Jefferson, TX located on Hwy 59, north of I-20 and near the LA state line. The Louisiana influence can be found in its architecture, Big Cyprus Bayou, and even its Mardi Gras (which includes a motorcycle parade). Named for Thomas Jefferson, the town was a major steamboat port from 1845 to 1875 and served as the Texas upriver shipping hub and major entry point for Texas pioneers. The Red River Raft, a natural log dam was removed in 1873, lowering the water level in the Bayou and that, along with the spread of the railroad, ended Jefferson’s prominence as a shipping hub. You can still see remnants of the old wharfs. Much of the New Orleans inspired architecture from its heyday remains today in its homes and one of its prominent restaurants situated on brick paved roads. 56 structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The century old Jefferson General store is a must stop for its soda fountain with 5 cent coffee and ice cream treats, to the unique items it sells. Across the street from the Excelsior Hotel is the Gould Railway Car. Jay Gould was a leading railroad developer and speculator and, termed by many, a robber baron. His luxurious rolling home on wheels, The Atalanta boasts 4 staterooms, lounge, bathtub, cast iron hot water heater, and dining room. Jefferson ended up as its final destination after the town denied his request to run his railroad through Jefferson. In addition, Jefferson has the Historic Jefferson Railway (Jefferson had the first gas powered train), the Museum of Measurement and Time, The Gone With The Wind Museum, the Lonesome Dove Drive Through Safari, Bayou Boat Tours, and the Mason Dixon Line Military and Civil War Museum. Jefferson is also known for its many quality Bed and Breakfasts. In October the town is host to the East Texas Burn Run, a 4 day weekend raising money for the Camp I’m Still Me. The Run includes a poker run, bike show, vendors, live entertainment, food and live auction. Jefferson is well suited for a weekend of touring and relaxation and you might just run into Bigfoot! A visit to nearby Caddo Lake is also warranted, but many of the roads are gravel and in spots, in dire need of repair. Be aware, many attractions in the area are currently closed or have limited availability until Covid goes away. Ride Safe and have fun!! Cooper

She was completely stock. After a while, Juan Gonzalez owner of Nomad Custom Leather made me this beautiful seat and bag combo that was just absolutely amazing. The detailed work that he put into it actually inspired the way I thought the rest of the bike should look. It has taken 4 years so far, but you’re never really finished with these bikes. Just a piece or a part here and there when you can afford it, lol. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
reetings fellow bikers! 2020 was an epic year of riding for me. The 2020 FLHTKSE now has 20,500 miles on it and it’s only 15 months old! I certainly hope you got some miles in during 2020! 2021 is a year of unknowns for us as I write this, but one thing I am sure of is that I will protect my loved ones – and myself. The only way you can do that is by being aware of your surroundings! If you are reading this, you are most likely a defender of our Second Amendment. You may even conceal carry a handgun when you leave the house. If so, congratulations on taking your safety, and the safety of your family and friends seriously. We all know that the best defense against a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. But do not fall into the same trap many people do: that carrying a handgun makes you “bullet-proof.” It simply does not. In fact, if you have become lazy because of that gun on your hip, you may be in more danger than an unarmed citizen who is very vigilant. Vigilance is the key to your safety and those with you – and vigilance starts with situational awareness.
– that person least likely to defend themselves when they spring forward to attack. Perhaps it’s that person peering intently into their smartphone. Perhaps it’s that person walking along the dark sidewalk talking to their girlfriend on the phone. Or perhaps it’s that person in the restaurant sitting with their back to everyone else. These are their easiest targets - those who due to their total lack of situational awareness have left themselves the most vulnerable - and least likely to be able to fight back. Even if they are packing a concealed handgun, they will be unable to act quickly enough to use it in their defense – and may even have their gun taken away from them and used against them. Here are some suggestions which will help you increase your situational awareness: 1. 2. 3.
According to Wikipedia, Situational Awareness is defined as: “…the perception of environmental elements and events with respect to time or space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status after some variable has changed, such as time, or some other variable, such as a predetermined event.” And while situational awareness is a key component to riding a motorcycle safely - Eg. Is that car approaching from the side road going to run the stop sign and pull out in front of me? – many riders leave their situational awareness with their helmets when they climb off their scoot. In other words, they become unaware of everything going on around themselves. Increasing your situational awareness starts with PAYING ATTENTION! Pay attention to everything going on around you. If you are like many people, that smart phone you are self-absorbed in is putting you at risk. Do not walk around in public with all of your attention focused on your social media networks. I have walked up to friends who are on their iPhone and greeted them several times before they were even aware I was there. That same person will never be able to defend against an attack by a thug if they are only paying attention to liking their friends’ Facebook posts. It would be helpful to look at the way a thug intent on doing harm thinks. First, you must think of these people as being like a tiger which is stalking their next meal. Like that tiger, they purposely scope out the weakest animal in a pack before they spring forward to attack. Shit-bag thugs do the same thing. If they are going to commit an armed robbery they will look for the softest of targets
4. 5. 6.
Avoid dangerous areas – Do not put yourself into a situation where you will be more likely to have to defend yourself. Remove your smartphone from your consciousness when you are in a public place. It is okay, even preferable, to have it with you, but your attention should not be focused on it. If you are walking into your corner gas station put your phone in your pocket. Look around the establishment before you enter. Is it well lit? How many people are in there? Are there any people who look dangerous? (Yes, it is okay for you to profile people.) What can you use for a barrier if the proverbial “shit-hits-the-fan.” Where are the exits? Have you examined the people present well enough to describe them for a police report? If not, you are not situationally aware of your surroundings. Do not sit where you have blind spots. Avoid sitting with your back to everyone else in that restaurant. I personally like to find a corner table and have my back to the corner. Events change and you need to change with them. Closely examine newcomers entering the restaurant, pub or gas station. Most importantly remove anything which can become a distraction.
The more you practice situational awareness, the easier it becomes. Be aware of the people around you. Be aware of the structure you are in. Search out exits. Scan faces. Stay away from dark areas where you can easily be ambushed. Do not ever become the prey because your concentration is elsewhere. Until next month, ride safe and keep the shiny side up! “SPIRITUAL REALITIES” We have all seen drawings and paintings of what we thought Jesus should looked like; tall, slender, long straight hair with a beard. They all show Jesus as a very handsome man. But in Isa. 53: 2 “…He has no form, nor comeliness: and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.” So, when you get to heaven, you might just walk right pass Him. If we are not careful, we can get so wrapped up in the Natural and forget the Spiritual relationship that God has always wanted for us to have. Jo.4:24 God is a Spirit, they that worship Him must worship him in spirit and in truth The disciples related to Jesus more in the natural than the spiritual because they walked with him for three years, even though they saw all the miracles that He did, they also saw him get hungry, tired, needing a bath, and a toilet, they became too familiar with Him. Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure. Jo.14:4 “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” Then Thomas contradicts Jesus and all but calls Him a liar: “We know not whither thou go; and how can we know the way?” And if that wasn’t bad enough when Jesus said to them; “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” Now Philp contradicts Jesus; “Lord, show us the Father and it will suffice us.” Philp is saying “Lord, your word is not good enough, we need more.” Jo.14:9 “Jesus said to him, have I been so long time with you, and you not know me?” Matt.20:20 “The mother of James & John came to worship Jesus and desiring a certain thing of Him.” There was a hidden motive behind her coming to worship Him. The modern-day Christian is a lot like Thomas, Philp, and James & John’s mother, we are more into a natural relationship with Christ than a spiritual relationship, even though we too have seen the miracles of God in our own lives, we have also become too familiar with Christ in the natural. This is why the disciples and others didn’t recognize Jesus after His resurrection. Jo.20:14-15 “…And she knew not it was Jesus…she thought He was the gardener.” 8
Jo.21: 4 “Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.” Luke 21:15-16 “disciples communed & reasoned together and Jesus drew near and went with them… their eyes were holden that they should not know Him.” In these last days as we deal with the pandemic, financial crises, violence in the streets and this election, we must worship Him in “Spirit and in truth.” Paul’s first encounter with Jesus was strictly Spiritual as he became a Christian. Paul was never part of the twelve disciples, was never taught by Jesus Himself, but yet Paul wrote two thirds of the New Testament, suffered for Christ more than anyone. Paul was the most important man in the New Testament other then Christ Himself. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

CHOPPER’S GRILL NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY
by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots: Happy New Year, maybe!!! I’m so glad 2020 is over but a little apprehensive that 2021 could be worse. Pardon me if that doesn’t jive with “Tis the season to be jolly,” but 2021 could be the bad sequel to 2020. You know how Jason comes back year after year at Halloween, 2020 may come back year after year as long as Marxists are in charge of the country. Let’s take a look at what we have to look forward to. If Biden is inaugurated and does what he says he is going to do, we’ll have taxes placed on gun and ammunition ownership, the border wall will be torn down and opened for anyone to walk into our country and get supported by the government. Felons will continue to be released from jail, criminals won’t be required to post bond, police will continue to be restrained from enforcing the law and police forces will shrink. Taxes on everything will go up to pay for new environmental laws, social programs and funding schemes that put money in the pockets of Marxist politicians. China will be given carte blanche to buy American businesses and political influence, use social media to gather technology and personal information on American’s. Our military will be restrained from meeting the threat of China’s military and China will be free to dominate many countries around the world. Our first amendment will be abused like never before and we’ll be arrested if we say something Marxists don’t like. Freedom of religion will be smacked harder and be further eradicated from the public sector. Schools will be put on steroids to indoctrinate our children in Marxism, sex and racism. Spying on everyone by everyone will be the new national sport!! These are the core goals of the Marxist “reset” today. The election procedures that allowed Democrats to steal the election in key swing states will be pushed into more states for the mid-term and the 2024 presidential election. The news media and social media will continue to hide criminal activity by the powerful and censor information to common citizens. Viruses will be used to require additional compliance with government rules in order to control travel, jobs, banking services, home loans, access to schools, medical care and a whole lot of other essential things we haven’t even thought of yet. Large corporations will be given more latitude to dominate our basic needs and do away with small businesses. In case you haven’t noticed, the world’s richest man is the primary beneficiary of the virus lock downs. We’ve been driven to order our needs on line and pump billions of dollars into Amazon. The big corporations are pumping big money into politicians to ensure the big corporate monopolies aren’t broken up. The justice department, FBI, NSA, CIA, and every other government agency will be used to promote Marxist/ Chinese domination and laws will be
targeted and harshly applied to control resistance to Marxist domination. New laws will turn law abiding Americans into outlaws overnight. If you’re down with the scams, you skate and get rich!!! If you’re not, you get slammed and stomped. On the flip side!!!.... (Yes, there is a flip side) there are more and more American’s who are waking up to the coup and who is engineering all of the insanity we see in our nation. More people are beginning to feel the effects of the building oppression. We all still have the power to draw a line in the sand, decide what we’ll take, what we won’t and what we’re willing to sacrifice to keep our constitution, liberty and justice. You can see groups forming that are willing to stand in the streets against those who try to scare us into hiding in our homes. Even long-term Democrats are seeing how their party has turned into a Marxist snake that bites everything it sees. We won’t see Biden very long; he’ll get snake bit with help from his own party and then we are likely to be blessed with Obama, Harris, Pelosi and Schumer running the country. That snake oil concoction won’t taste better with age even if the media does it’s best to doctor it with misdirection sugar. As the next two years pass until the mid-term election, we’ll see how many more American’s wake up. As the Marxists get more entrenched it will take more awake American’s, not woke, to reverse the sabotage. Don’t you think it funny that dumbed down American’s call themselves “Woke.” Better to be “Awake” not woke!! Sorry if my take on all of this isn’t bright and cheery but I’m reminded of the saying that “out of the ashes rises the phoenix,” If we take back our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms we’ll come back. In the meantime, the Bulldog prescribes a long rifle “that you keep”, accepts box magazines and enough ammo to keep it fed. Protect yourself and work on becoming more self-sufficient. What you can’t control is something someone else can use to control you. Adjust your circle of family and friends to those you trust and don’t communicate with them in ways that everyone sees. Public knowledge about your personal life is the leverage of leftist oppression. Stand bravely for your freedom!!! Expect a return to the Obama economy because it promotes putting you on a socialist program. I believe that you can also expect a return to higher inflation. As always, motorcycles are the best relief for stress and at least a feeling of freedom. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. You can comment at bousle19@comcast.net – Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.

NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)
small of a rise in ridership could be enough to swing the fortunes and future of the motorcycle industry.
PANDEMIC KICKSTARTED A MOTORCYCLE BOOM From soft sales and even negative growth at some companies, to the specter of businesses collapsing in the face of Coronavirus, to sudden sales spikes and even triple-digit growth, 2020 has been a whiplash year for the motorcycle industry.
U.S. HELMET USE TRENDS HIGHER Helmet use by U.S. motorcyclists has trended higher over the past decade, according to a new government survey.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, red flags were waving in many pockets of motorcycle commerce according to Forbes.com, and there was a growing dark cloud hovering over the industry, generated in large part by one particular problem: Not enough new riders are buying motorcycles and replacing those that are leaving the sport. “There have been many reasons postulated for the shrinking ridership numbers and flagging sales, from Millennials being more risk (and motorcycle) averse, to smartphone addiction to enthusiasts aging out of the market,” wrote Forbes contributor Bill Roberson in his article; “The Motorcycle Industry Was At A Crossroads, Then COVID-19 Changed Up The Map”. When the pandemic hit, something very interesting happened: Motorcycle and bicycle sales started climbing, often at double-digit rates. “It made sense on some levels, since anyone returning to work or life in general was avoiding ride share and mass transit like the plague (sorry) and many ex-riders suddenly rediscovered their mothballed two-wheeled conveyances - or decided to buy new ones,” surmised Roberson, adding that as people began to return to workplaces, suddenly motorcycles, scooters and bicycles became viable options. Besides being a socially distanced activity anyway, added benefits like discounted tolls, free parking (in non-car spaces) and HOV lane access for motorcycles could help drive even more people to give motorcycles a go. Also, motorcycle industry insider Robert Pandya told Roberson that many cities experienced an unusual phenomenon unseen in decades: literally no vehicle traffic. “And the new crop of electric machines, along with the surge in adult-sized small-displacement motorcycle options give perspective riders more to consider than what has long been the primary market focus in the U.S.: selling large displacement, highmargin motorcycles,” explains Roberson. Pandya noted that businesses and repair shops have experienced some “exceptional months.” But while the latest boost is good news, the big question is; can it be sustained? Will the sudden high tide of bike and motorcycle sales result in a renaissance for that kind of personal transportation? “We find ourselves in this industry on our heels, and you can look in the rearview mirror all you want,” Pandya told Forbes.com, “but I think the access to technology and design, and our marketing abilities, speaks to this awesome opportunity to go from seven percent [of people riding motorcycles] to eight percent.” Just that 14 14
According to the U. S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS) is the only survey that provides nationwide probability-based observed data on motorcyclist helmet use in the United States. The NOPUS is conducted by NHTSA on an annual basis and the findings of the survey over the past ten years show a gradually increasing trend in the use of helmets by motorcycle riders. According to the NHTSA survey, helmet use nationwide increased among motorcyclists from 54.3% of all riders (including passengers) in 2010 to 70.8% in 2019. In states with a mandatory helmet law, helmet use among riders was 89.2% in 2019, while in all other states -- those that only require helmet use for specific riders, helmet use was 56.5%. On a regional basis in 2019, riders in the West helmeted up most often, with helmet use noted among 83.7% of those observed. The south was next at 74.6%, followed by the northeast region at 74.1%, and the Midwest at only 43.4%. Having a passenger aboard is an apparent factor in increased helmet use by the driver, with 79.7% of riders wearing a helmet when they have a passenger compared to 74% when riding solo, based on the data for 2019. To view the full NHTSA report on helmet use trends online, including how the various criteria mentioned above are defined, go to: https:// crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/ViewPublication/812936 HONDA PATENTS A MOTORCYCLE THAT’S CONTROLLED BY THE MIND No, it’s not the plot-line from a sci-fi movie, Honda has filed one of the wildest patents of the year, with an idea for a motorcycle that is partly controlled directly by the power of thought! Of course, all motorcycles are already controlled by the ‘power’ of the mind – the rider ‘thinks’ and the brain sends messages to our limbs that control the bike – but this latest patent for a “mind control motorcycle” shows that Honda thinks there is a more efficient way to do that, with signals from the brain directly affecting the bike’s behavior. “Honda’s wacky idea is not that you think ‘left’ and the bike steers to the left; this system is more about changing the bike's settings and assistance systems,” according to VisorDown.com, going on to explain; “Within the rider’s helmet, there are a set of neural sensors that can pick up the stream of thoughts from the rider’s

brain. The messages are then sent to the bike’s onboard computer which deciphers the messages and adjusts the required setting in accordance with the demands of the rider.” EURO 5 IS COMING Despite pleas from the motorcycle industry and European manufacturers to delay implementation until 2022, particularly due to COVID-19 lockdowns, factory shutdowns and supply chain slowdowns, “Euro 5” is due to come into force January 1. 2021, forcing bike makers to meet ever-increasingly stringent emissions regulations worldwide. As the name suggests, Euro 5 is the fifth set of European standards for motorcycles aimed at reducing air pollutants produced by twowheelers incrementally over the years since Euro 1 in 1999, and every few years since the standards have tightened. As time goes by, the EU’s regulations have grown to include safety systems (ABS, traction control) and other technology as well. Wonder why two-stroke engines have disappeared, why carburetors have been replaced by electronic fuel injection, or why ABS is becoming standard even on lowly beginner bikes? Thank Euro5 and its predecessors. Today, either directly or indirectly, European regulations are responsible for many decisions in the development of new motorcycles. Because of how strict the standards are and how influential the European market is to the entire global motorcycle industry, Euro 5 will essentially be the de facto worldwide standard. It’s easier for the OEMs to make one bike for the whole world, instead of a dozen variations for differing regional regulations. Euro 5 means we can expect another imminent cull and extensive redesigns as current Euro 4-legal models are revamped or replaced to suit the stricter new tailpipe limits, and air-cooled engines are inevitably threatened each time there’s a new bout of emissions restrictions. JANUARY 2021
Of course, Euro5 isn’t the end, either. In coming years, we’ll see Euro5+ enacted; all new models sold after 2025 must meet that even stricter standard. Look for new exhaust regulations, as well as changes to the rules around OBD2 code sensors, and even weight restrictions -- and expect technological advances, to meet all the new rules. The EU’s rule changes may be killing off some much-loved models, but they’re also forcibly moving the industry forward. JURY FINDS MYRTLE BEACH RACIALLY DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BLACK BIKERS The city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was motivated by race when it created a new traffic plan designed to “suck the fun” out of Black Bike Week, a federal jury has found. Civil rights groups accused the city of racially discriminating against the Black tourists by treating them differently than white bikers who attend Harley Week earlier each May, citing in particular a 23-mile one-way no-exit traffic chute that funnels them out of town during the peak nights of Atlantic Beach Bikefest, otherwise known as Black Bike Week. The city also puts up barricades and increases its police presence in ways that don’t apply to the mostly white bikers during their event, NAACP attorneys said. The jurors -- five Black and four white -- deliberated for more than three hours before delivering their verdict, on December 10, agreeing that “race was a motivating factor,” but they also sided against the black bikers, saying Myrtle Beach probably “would have made the same decision anyway, even if it had not considered race in its official actions regarding Black Bike Week.” QUOTABLE QUOTE: "Few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder." ~ George Washington (1732-99), American military leader and Founding Father who served as the first president of the United States
