I
t’s hard to believe we’re into the last laps of summer! Of course, summer doesn’t officially end until September 23rd, but my brain says when school starts, summer’s over. It’s so hard to believe that it was just three months ago that the schools were gearing up for Summer break. And now, all of sudden, I feel like I blinked and it’s almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun needs to end. September is obviously one of the biggest months for motorcycle events because the event pages are loaded with some awesome things to attend, beginning with the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run in Cherokee NC September 6th – 8th, this year they have added an all new flat track and racing is on the 7th with a $10K total purse, they also have a great band lineup, check out the details on their ads in this issue. This year’s Vette City Motorcycle Music Fest is the 12th – 15th at a new location in Oakland KY and the new site is spectacular. If you missed it last year, make plans to attend this one, we had a great time last year and this year will be even bigger and better with an amazing lineup of 25 bands. September 20th – 22nd don’t miss the 38th Annual Leslie W. Watson Memorial Toy Run & Benefit Party in Clarksville at the Speedway. If you’ve never attended, Bikers Who Care know how to throw a party and always make this event a great time, so come on out and party with us all weekend. Also this month the 26th – 29th is West TN Valley Rally in Crump TN, we hear this is a really fun rally so we’ll be there this year, come hang out with us, they have onsite camping and it’s free with a 3 day pass. Tennessee Motorcycles and Music Revival is coming up in October but be sure to attend their Kick-Off Party at Appleton H-D’s Open House on the 28th for a chance to win passes. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, bike nights are still on as well as many other events so check out the event pages and our amazing advertisers’ ads for more fun things to attend as we cruise into the Fall riding season. The 15th is National POW/MIA Recognition Day and we would like to take a moment and remember those who were prisoners of war (POW) and those who are missing in action (MIA), as well as their families. Also, we would like to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. With Scott being a fireman, and me the wife of a fireman, 9-11 is an especially difficult day at our house. I don’t think anybody will ever forget where they were that morning, I know we won’t. NEVER FORGET. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, be safe on the road, and we’ll see you in the wind. As always, please support to our amazing advertisers that support us by shopping at their businesses when you’re in need of a product or service they provide, they are what keep this magazine going and free to you every month. Ride Hard Live Free, Denise & Scott

“SEED-TIME-HARVEST” There are three things that Christians pray for the most; healing, deliverance, and prosperity, then followed by peace, joy and love. But when our prayers go unanswered, we blame God, the church and the pastor, but in reality, we are praying what the Bible calls “Dead works;” emotions, clichés, metaphors. Jesus gave us instructions on how the Kingdom of God works. Mark 4:11 “Unto you is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God.” It has not been hidden from you, but for you. Mark 4:26 “So is the Kingdom of God, as if a man should cast SEED into the GROUND.” Notice two phrases here; “So is” and “as if,” giving clear insight as an example how the Kingdom of God works using an agricultural terminology. But the biggest clue of all is in vs.14 “The sower sows the WORD.” 1. The SEED is the Word of God 2. The TIME is the time it takes to develop Roots 3. The HARVEST is your answered Prayer 4. The GROUND is your spirit man If you desire a Harvest (answered prayer) then you must plant a Seed (the Word of God) in the Ground (your spirit man) and give it Time (to develop Roots). Anytime you see a plant or a tree, you never see the Roots because their underground, but the plant/tree can’t grow without the root system or it will blow over at the first strong wind and bear no fruit. If you got no Roots, you’ll have no fruits. This is the problem with the modern-day Christian, we want everything instant, microwaved or through a drive thru window, we got no Roots! We are just like fake plant; we look good but we’re plastic with no Roots and no fruits. Gen.1:11 “God said let the EARTH (not the seed) bring forth.” Gen.1:12 “And the EARTH (not the seed) brought forth” Gen.1:24 “God said, Let the EARTH (not seed) bring forth the living creature” Gen.2:7 “… God formed man out of the dust of the ground (EARTH) Mark 4:28 “For the EARTH (not the seed) brings forth fruit of herself” September 2019
Everything the earth ever needed was created within itself, it only needed a “SEED” which was The Word of God, “And God said…” Our spirit man represents the EARTH, we are “The Ground.” Gen. 1:26 “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Everything you will ever need has already been placed in you, healing, deliverance, prosperity, all you need is the SEED (the Word) to germinated it, give it TIME to develop the Roots, then comes HARVEST. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Otis, Male, Domestic Short Hair, 3 Years Old – Looking for a playful and affectionate feline? Otis is the friend for you! He loves receiving attention and gives head butts galore! You can’t go wrong with this sweet boy. He’s looking forward to some playtime, snuggles, and being showered with love in his new home. Get to know this handsome guy and you’ll soon be falling in love! Otis is not a fan of dogs, and must go to a home without them.
Birdy, Female, Domestic Shorthair, 3 Years Old, Barn/Working Cat – Birdy is an independent kitty who is looking for work as a barn cat! All she asks for in return is shelter and some cat food! She is fully vaccinated (so she won’t take sick days) and she is microchipped (so she’ll stay loyal). Come check her out today! Blossom, Female, American Staffy Mix, 6 Years Old – Blossom has been waiting patiently at McKamey all summer, but now she’s ready to hit the trail. None of that silly puppy chewing for her, she likes to explore and climb up for a view, then go home and chill on the couch with you. Blossom is smart and loves her treaties, so she’s eager to learn new tricks like Sit and Shake. She can even catch a treat in the air (but won’t be fooled by a ball)! She’d prefer to have all your attention but might be willing to meet a calm friend. No cats or children, please. This lovely lady would truly Blossom in her new forever home! Green & Bay, Males, Lab Mixes, 1 Year Old – Meet Green and Bay! They are a shy pair but the sweetest couple of pups around. They are always ready for the best cuddle sessions and love getting to roam around the outdoors. Green and Bay would love a family to show them how awesome home life can be! Humberto, Male, American Staffy Mix, 2 Years Old – This big and handsome dork is Humberto! He just can’t get enough of fun time! He LOVES getting to run as fast as he can in big open spaces and loves even more having other dogs that like to play as much as him running around too! This active boy makes every day an adventure and will make the life you used to live just seem so bland! Humberto makes for the best snuggle bug with all his love too, that is when he can stop wiggling anyway! You couldn’t ask for a better friend than this pup here so don’t wait any longer! Come ask our adoptions staff to let you meet with him! 6
Rocketship, Male, Domestic Short Hair, 5 Years Old – I’m LionHearted! I’m confident and self-assured and have no problem showing it! I’m ready to roll 24/7 so if you’ve got a busy household and a lot of time to play, I’m your cat! Taz, Male, Domestic Long Hair, 7 Years Old – Did you stop in your tracks as you saw Taz? Makes sense, as he is a handsome, distinguished, intelligent lad. Taz is an independent boy looking for a special home and family to start his new life. Settling into a new home and lifestyle takes time for a lot of cats, and Taz will be no exception. He’s not a fan of being fussed with by people and because of this he will do best in an adult only home with no small kids. If you are willing to give him the time to become familiar with you and your routines, we think you will be more than happy with the outcome. See if this boy is the piece that has been missing from your life!

Bullet Points RED FLAG LAWS – THE WRONG LAW AND THE WRONG TIME
G
ood day from your ever-lovable Grey Beard Biker! These days are quite divisive. They never fail to make your ever-lovable Grey Beard Biker take pause – and inventory – of the things which are important to us. Specifically, the 1st and 2nd amendments. Freedom of Speech and the right to “Keep and Bear Arms” are central to the founding and long-term health of the United States. Today, the liberal Mainstream Media (MSM) and many leftist congresspeople would like to take action to restrict both amendments.
take in Concealed Carry – would ever support these laws.
First, let’s look at some of the assaults on the 1st Amendment – specifically its clauses which provides us Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Assembly. We see blatant disregard for this from the MSM and liberal politicians.
So, what specifically do most of these Red Flag Laws attempt to do? In the event that someone you know considers you a danger to yourself, or others, they can go to a court and seek an ERPO against you. If the judge grants the motion for the ERPO, law enforcement will come to your home, unannounced, and remove all of your guns. This may seem “commonsense,” but it is anything but. The biggest issue with these laws is what talk radio host, Dana Loesch (Dana Radio) calls, “inverted due process.” These ERPOs are granted Ex Parte. This means that you are not able to be there to represent yourself. Hell, you won’t even know it’s going on until they come for your guns. If you were aware this was taking place you would have the opportunity to hire an attorney and defend yourself against what is nothing more than an illegal seizure of your personal property. Making matters worse, in some states, is that an ex-spouse/lover, neighbor, acquaintance or even someone who barely knows you can make such a claim – not just someone very close to you. This is a total perversion of another one of our Bill of Rights: Amendment IV, regarding unreasonable searches and seizures.
1. The left is constantly trying to restrict Freedom of Speech. It is done by squashing conservative speech on social platforms where Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are throttling conservative free speech. They restrict who can see our posts and even our search results on Google, Yahoo and Bing. They do not want our message getting out. 2. Today’s press is highly aligned with liberal and socialist ideologies. When breaking news which does not fit their narrative takes place, you will hardly see a mention of it in print or any major network (NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN Et. Al.) - a good example of which is the recent mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio. None of the supposed “unbiased media” mentioned that the shooter was a YUGE supporter of Elizabeth Warren. 3. Freedom of Assembly is being trampled on constantly by politicians, hate groups (Antifa) and social justice groups like the Women’s March. These groups will counter protest against nonviolent assembly of conservatives at every turn. Antifa, specifically, will resort to violence against groups they do not agree with, as witnessed recently in Portland, Oregon. 4. Liberal legislators continually attack Trump, and his supporters, as Racist Xenophobes to try and extinguish our message. This is pure hatred and is used to suppress our voices. Red Flag Laws Are Harmful to the Second Amendment The latest feel good “commonsense” gun reform being proposed regularly, seems to be so-called Red Flag Laws. These are also known as (AKA): Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs). They are being positioned as a regulation which the majority of law-abiding gun owners support. This is pure hogwash. Once you understand more about these ridiculous laws, no law-abiding gun owner – especially those who par-
Several states have passed ERPOs including Vermont, Washington, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Oregon, Nevada, Indiana, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Colorado, Maryland, Delaware, Hawaii and Florida. What’s most surprising about this list is that several of these states have been considered very Pro-2A: Nevada, Indiana and Florida. Florida enacted their Red Flag Law in the wake of the Parkland Shooting.
The last pitfall of these laws is that in most cases, besides being “guilty until proven innocent,” you have very limited recourse to repossess your improperly seized property (guns). Most of the states with these laws require you wait a specified amount of time to petition the court to remove the ERPO. Plus, there is a cost to do so, as you will probably have to hire an attorney to represent what should be an inalienable right – the right to keep and bear arms – a right which the 2nd Amendment says, “shall not be infringed.” Obviously, the leftists do not care about this amendment. Act today. Contact your state, local and Federal legislators and let them know you do not want them to support Red Flag Laws! Until next month, keep the shiny side up! Ride to Live – Live to Ride! DODGING THE ROADKILL
I
WHAT WILL IT TAKE? By Hank Bonecutter
n July of this year, Tennessee joined about 17 other states in implementing a cellphone law. In the Volunteer state, drivers could face a fine of up to $200 for using their cellphone while driving. Drivers 18 and older will be prohibited from holding or physically supporting a phone while driving. My “unofficial” observation? Nothing’s changed. My brothers in law enforcement tell me that their superiors have told them to just give “warnings” until the general public understands the new law. From 2015 to 2017, Tennessee topped the list for cellphone distracted driving deaths nationwide according to a new study by ValuePenguin of National Highway Traffic Administration data. During that study period, more than 1400 fatalities were attributed to crashes involving drivers that were distracted by their cellphones. What will it take? Also from 2017 statistics, there were 7919 crashes involving alcohol impaired drivers or drivers who had used drugs. There were 5375 injuries involving alcohol impaired drivers or drivers who had used drugs, and there were 348 fatalities involving the same impaired drivers. What will it take? In my nearly 40 year media career, we were CONSTANTLY urging the public to “Don’t drink and drive,” or “Don’t do drugs,” or “Click it or ticket,” encouraging everyone to drive responsibly. These warnings don’t work. Why is that? Why do people continue to risk not only THEIR lives, but the lives of the rest of us? One of the first reasons, in my opinion, is that the penalties aren’t harsh enough. If the worst thing that could happen to you is a $200 fine, then you’re not that concerned about getting caught. If you lost your license for a year, then maybe you’ll reconsider being a distracted driver. When it comes to drinking and driving, I believe that some jail time, and a HUGE fine should be a “zero tolerance” approach for
10
first offenders. If you get caught driving impaired, go straight to jail for 48 hours, $1,000 fine. If you get caught again, double the penalty and so on. Sadly, it all boils down to accountability. For some reason, we refuse to be accountable for our actions. “It could never happen to me,” or “I’ll never get caught,” is the mentality of people who willingly and knowingly get behind the wheel impaired. We refuse to be held accountable for the risks involved while looking down at our phones while driving. What will it take? Bikers like us depend on other drivers to be at their best while operating their vehicle. We depend on the other traffic to be as diligent as we are while traveling. Sadly, that’s not the case. Politicians and lawmakers give these issues “lip service” and don’t take the zero tolerance approach that they need, to get it through our thick skulls that THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. So until they do, I encourage you to remain ever diligent on your motorcycle. Don’t develop habits that could risk your life, or cause you to get caught up in the path of an impaired driver. We know the risks, and we will NOT be deterred from this lifestyle. Now, if we could only get the laws necessary to force people to understand that this is NOT acceptable, maybe, just maybe, the highway would become a safer place to be. Ride safe my friends, and thanks for following my journey. Photo credit: Gephardt Daily, a Utah news team

RIDER SAFETY
A
TOURING COMFORTS MAKE FOR SAFER RIDING
couple of months ago, my sisters from the Motor Maids shared their top 10 tips for safe riding. Along with safety, we can learn a lot about touring from this group of ladies. In July, the Motor Maids met for our annual convention in the sunny southern town of Temecula, California. Traveling from Canada, the east coast and all states in between, approximately 246 Motor Maids tallied-up some 400,000 plus miles as a group just riding to our convention.
Comfortable touring is often overlooked as being an important contribution to safe riding. There are so many factors that can make your ride pleasant and enjoyable. Or, exhausting and drudgery. Here are just a few to consider: temperature • wind • weather
Riders have several options like shields, glasses and googles for keeping our eyes protected. Again, be prepared for all types of weather and conditions. This includes cloudy and foggy days along with sunny and windy days. Sun reflection from various objects paired with wind can make your eyes dry and tire quickly. Staring into the blinding sun when riding into a sunrise or sunset can be uncomfortable and add risk to your ride. Your eye protection should also safeguard against bugs, dirt, rocks and other hazards. Shatter proof, polarized lenses along with glasses/googles that have gaskets can add to your eye’s comfort and safety during your ride. Keep a bottle of eye moisturizing drops to replenish the moisture to your eyes. Just adding a few drops to each eye when you stop for gas can make a big difference! Remember the importance of hydration. You can become dehydrated in cold and hot temperatures. Often, you don’t notice the symptoms of dehydration. Making safe decisions is one of your abilities that can change quickly as dehydration sets in. Keep a bottle of water handy and get in the habit of drinking it before, during and after your ride.
• improper riding gear • gear that doesn’t fit well • wind noise • sun angle • poor motorcycle fit • lack of preparation Be prepared for any type of weather. Dry and warm is always better than wet and cold. Buy rain gear made specifically for motorcycle riding. Motorcycle rain gear should be big enough to fit over your normal riding gear and it should be reflective. Your rain jacket can also be used in windy conditions. Carry a base layer for additional warmth. On my recent trip to the west coast, temperatures varied from 38 degrees to 105 degrees. As temperatures increased, my cooling vest quickly became a valuable asset to keeping me comfortable. Hearing protection should be a part of your safety gear. Wind noise can be exhausting after a period of time. It can also damage your hearing permanently. Sound is measured in a unit known as a decibel and the higher the decibel level, the louder the noise. If you are riding at 40 mph, wind noise reaching your ears can be 90 decibels. So, as your speed increases so does the decibel level as wind noise increases. Research suggests that our safe exposure limit is about 85 decibels for a 6 to 8-hour period. Wind noise at higher speeds can reach approximately 110 decibels and this exposure can lead to permanent hearing damage in only an hour. The MSF tells us that wearing hearing protection, like foam earplugs, can reduce noise by 33 decibels. These inexpensive foam earplugs can make your ride quieter September 2019
and more enjoyable. Or, you can invest in earplugs specifically made for reducing wind noise. Give earplugs a try. You may find they become a favorite in your gear collection.
Another good practice worth noting, look your bike over before you leave each morning and look back at your parking space when you pull out. Checking simple things like your air pressure can keep you from experiencing bigger problems down the road. And, you might be surprised at items left on the pavement when packing your bike. Thanks again Motor Maids for your input to comfortable touring which in turn makes for safer riding. Enjoy your rides, have great adventures and remember safe riding starts with you! For more information about the Motor Maids, check out https://www. motormaidsinc.org.
Donna, along with being an avid riding enthusiast, is a MSF motorcycle safety coach for the state of Tennessee and a Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Coach. She is a member of the Motor Maids, H.O.G. and Ladies of Harley. Stop by her blog site at www.lipstickandleather.life.

Thousands of riders from the Midwest, North East and further points South will inundate the East Tennessee region, and the Great Smoky Mountains, September through November. Over the next three months we’ll be highlighting some of the best destination rides, top notch day rides, and the best places to put your stands down for vistas, food, moonshine and more. And in October, we’ll be running our premier Ride Guide article, where we’ll feature the regions newest and most anticipated destination ride. To kick things off, let’s set the stage with one of the Gateways to the Great Smoky Mountains, Sevier County. Sevier County encompasses the region’s most visited part of the park system; Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Newfound Gap. Newfound Gap, creating the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, with very few exceptions, sees the most motorcycle riders for hundreds of miles around. The Gap, at just over 5,000 feet in elevation gives riders a cool refreshing break as they take in fantastic views of the Smokies. Most spectacular in the early morning, the famous “mountain smoke”, gently wisps up from the many valleys. Photographers come from across the country at this time of year to capture the serenity that has been on display for thousands of years here. The Gap, while in and of itself a local natural wonder, is complimented with a short ride over to Clingmans Dome. Just a few minutes to the West, riders will find the spur road leading to the parking lot. From there it’s a short walk to the top of the observation tower. At over 6,600 feet, the dome is the highest point on the entire 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail. On a clear day be prepared to see deep into North Carolina and see just how vast the Great Smoky Mountain Park is. While fall in this region is at its most spectacular with the crisp collage of brilliant colors, spring also brings thousands of September 2019
riders to the area. In late May, the Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride, a tribute ride to honor America’s fallen, draws the largest gathering of motorcyclists in all of East TN. In fact, it just might be THE largest organized ride in the entire state. Held in downtown Sevierville, this 65 mile escorted ride drew over 3,000 riders in 2019. The most popular access to The Gap is down US 441, through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. This route offers many opportunities to shop, eat, and visit our local distilleries. One of my favorites being Tennessee Legend Distillery. Easy in and out for riders, they offer dozens of mouthwatering moonshine flavors to taste. My top pick is their Bananas Foster. They’ll be happy to give you a few free samples-give em a try! For a less congested, yet equally popular traveled roads for riders, try US 321 out of Maryville, TN or US 321 out of Newport, TN. Great places to stop along this route are Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson, Screwball’s Bar & Grill, and Appalachian Trading and Leather. Regardless of what routes you chose, you’ll be sure to get some good old fashion Tennessee hospitality that’ll make you want to ride these roads over, and over, and over.

few years ago Gary Bagwell was in Oregonia Ohio watching the Devil’s Staircase Hillclimb with his wife Candi, after the races were over he asked “why don’t we have this in Tennessee?” From that moment on Gary was on a mission. He searched the Tennessee countryside looking for a suitable hill and after checking out hundreds of possible hills he found THE hill. The hill Gary found had all of the infrastructure and parking he would need to hold the Inaugural Buffalo Valley Hillclimb and it’s located at the Buffalo Valley Dragway in Buffalo Valley TN owned by Gary Huddleston. The first Hillclimb, an AMA PRO race, was held during the 2015 TN State HOG Rally, and every year since, there have been either AMA PRO races, AMA Amateur races, or both on the Buffalo Valley Hill. In fact, after the first year Gary was named promoter of the year by the AMA. Five short years after bikes and ATV’s climbed the hill for the first time Buffalo Valley and Tennessee hosted the 2019 AMA Grand Championship Hillclimb, the National Championship of Amateur Hillclimbs! That build it and they will come attitude paid off, with over 400 passes up the hill both Saturday and Sunday of the Championships weekend, and Sunday afternoon the AMA Amateur Hillclimb National Champions were crowned in every class. Congratulations to all the winners!

New activities on tap for 2019 include: • 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit, a tribute to all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers, documentary videos, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath.
• Traveling Korean War Memorial, consists of 19 soldiers walking through a Korean rice paddy and three soldiers off to the side setting up a campfire. Returning activities for the Celebration Week include: • Lee Greenwood Concert. Enjoy this American music legend in a free outdoor concert. • American Traveling Tribute Wall is an 80-percent scale version of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC and contains every name that is etched on the original monument. • Field of Honor – Veterans Tribute flag display is part of a nationally recognized community program that demonstrates the strength and unity of Americans • A Wreath Laying and Massing of the Colors will take place at the Wall.

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: The following was compiled from information on the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) website, POW Network and the obituary for Colonel Knight. On the 19th of May 1967 Major Roy Abner Knight Jr. was flying his A1E Skyraider propeller driven attack aircraft on a mission over Laos when his plane was shot down over Houa Rhan Province in extreme northern Laos. A second A1E flying the same mission reported his aircraft hit the ground and burned. No parachutes were observed. Major Knight was born in Garner, Texas, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from high school in Millsap, Texas and joined the Air Force in 1948. In 1967 he was sent to Thailand to fly missions in Vietnam from Udorn Air base. His callsign was “Firefly 11.” Search and rescue efforts were hindered by the enemy presence in the area and Major Knight was not seen again. More than half a century of waiting to put Air Force Col. Roy Knight Jr. to rest came to a close for his family in a country cemetery under sunny Texas skies, a world away from where he was killed in action during the Vietnam War. Family members of Col. Roy Knight Jr. stood as the National Anthem played during his memorial service in Cool, Texas, just outside of Mineral Wells, August 10, 2019. In February, Knight’s remains were recovered and identified, then flown home. The funeral service for the fallen hero, once listed as missing in action, was marked by tears, cherished memories, a sprinkling of laughter and full military honors. The winding narrow road to the church was lined with American flags, big and small. “Dad has come home,” his oldest son, Roy Knight III, said during the service. He recalled his father coming home from a day of work in a sweat-stained flight suit. “He is my hero,” Knight’s eldest son said. “He was committed to something greater than himself.” Roy Knight III was 5 when he saw his father off from Dallas Love Field 52 years ago, according to a USA Today story. His remains were flown back to Texas this week September 2019
by his son, Bryan, a commercial pilot for Southwest Airlines. He flew his father’s remains back to that same Dallas airport. Knight’s brother, Dr. Bill Knight said, “Throughout his life, he showed courage and love and compassion. The Air Force declared Knight dead in September 1974, according to the Defense POW/MIA Account Agency. He was posthumously promoted to Colonel. It was not until February 2019 that his remains were recovered and identified by DPAA. A bugler played taps, and Air Force members carefully performed a flag ceremony. Four F-16 jets thundered overhead in the missing-man formation. A lone jet broke away and ascended to the heavens until it was out of sight. “Col. Knight, welcome home, not to hunt, not to fish,” Marsha McDonald, who officiated, said, “but to stand as a symbol for all of time that freedom isn’t free.” Knight was posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and six other medals, according to the program. The third Friday of September is designated as Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Recognition Day. It’s a national day of recognition and the POW/MIA flag flies over all federal buildings under the American flag. Over 82,000 service members are missing in action since World War II. 72,680 from WWII, 7,649 from the Korean conflict, 1,588 from the Vietnam conflict, 126 from the Cold War and 5 from the Iraq theater and other conflicts. The government says recovering, identifying and bringing back the remains of service members to their families with honor is a number one priority. Why is it taking so long to complete the task? At the current rate it will take 300 to 400 years!!! Can’t congress put the resources to this task and complete it while those who care are still alive? Too many career politicians??? Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. You can comment at bousle19@ comcast.net - Bulldog

THE AIM/NCOM MOTORCYCLE E-NEWS SERVICE is brought to you by Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), and is sponsored by the Law Offices of Richard M. STURGIS RALLY SAFEST IN FIVE YEARS Final Sturgis Motorcycle Rally figures indicate a slight decrease in overall attendance, but including a third fatality reported on Sunday, traffic deaths were the lowest since 2014 when two motorcyclists died. Four people died in traffic crashes during the Rally last year. Accidents were also down this year, with 52 injury crashes reported, down from 56; 41 non-injury crashes compared with 50 in 2018, according to the state Department of Public Safety. The number of vehicles counted entering Sturgis, South Dakota during the 10 days of the 79th annual Sturgis Rally, from Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 11, was down 1.2% from 505,969 in 2018 to 499,654 this year, according to the state Department of Transportation, which has been counting since 1990. The record vehicle count was 604,441 for seven days -- Monday through Sunday -- of the Rally in 2000, the 60th anniversary, according to DOT figures. The record attendance, by head count, was an estimated 738,000 in 2015, the 75th anniversary, according to Rally officials. TRADE WAR HEATS UP An ongoing trade war continues to escalate, and with motorcycles once again caught in the crosshairs, whatever the outcome the cost of motorcycles is likely to go up. Trade tensions between the European Union (EU) and the United States involving ongoing disputes regarding aircraft subsidies has led the Trump Administration to respond with $11 billion in proposed EU tariffs, including many motorcycles imported from countries in the EU. The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed 100% duties on motorcycles 500-700cc, as well as “parts and accessories for motorcycles (including mopeds).” (HTS subheadings 8711.40.30 and 8714.10.00). The retaliatory tariffs could have far-reaching consequences for European-based motorcycle manufacturers, including Ducati, BMW, Husqvarna, KTM, Triumph and Vespa. As of now, the product list is “preliminary”, and riders are urged to make their voices heard. MIC LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO INSPIRE NEW RIDERS The Motorcycle Industry Council(MIC) has announced a broad, long-term initiative to bring more people into the world of motorcycling. 36
“It’s clear the industry needs to reach and inspire new customers. While many of us, with our individual businesses, have taken steps to grow ridership, we also should be working together, and the MIC wants to help make that happen,” said Paul Vitrano, MIC board chair and senior assistant general counsel at Indian Motorcycle and Polaris Inc. “To help us fully understand the barriers to entry, and to create an inclusive strategic plan to conquer those barriers that will be available to all stakeholders, we have partnered with a team of researchers and strategists to bring fresh perspectives to this challenge and opportunity.” To initiate this strategic plan, the MIC has hired consulting firm Centauric LLCto lead the first phase of this initiative. “Centauric has committed an impressive multi-disciplinary team of behavioral scientists, engineers, and business consultants, and takes a unique approach to problem-solving. We are excited to be working with them on this critical initiative,” Vitrano said. The plan will be presented at the MIC’s American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) in Columbus, Ohio, September 2629, 2019. “This is not designed to be a quick fix, nor is it just about sales,” said Chuck Boderman, MIC vice chair, and vice president, motorcycle division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “It’s about showing people how motorcycles can fit into and enrich their lives, no matter where they live, what they do, what their hobbies are, or how old or young they are. This will take time, so we are committed to building a campaign that takes the long view… and how united as one, we can attract new riders to motorcycling.” FEMA WARNS: “BE PREPARED FOR ELECTRIC BIKES!” “In about ten years it will probably not be possible to buy a motorcycle with an internal combustion engine in most, if not all, European countries,” warns Dolf Willigers of the Federation of European Motorcyclists' Associations (FEMA). Based upon information gathered during Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels, consisting of three days of presentations about how to make our society more sustainable; “When you think about future transport, think electric. Not biofuels, not hydrogen, certainly not carbon-based fuels, but electric batterypowered vehicles is what we can expect.” Transport is seen as a big contributor to the greenhouse effect. According to the EFA, the European Environment Agency, road transport emits nearly 21% of the EU’s total emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse gas. Both the European Union and countries inside and outside the EU want ‘climateneutral’ transport in 2050. “This looks far away,” says Willigers, “but remember that cars, the largest part of the vehicles, in Europe have an average lifespan of about twenty years. To have all cars on the road emission free in 2050 means that cars that do emit CO2 should no longer be on the market after 2030. Now it suddenly gets closer.” According to Williger, in just over ten years, there should be a complete transition from cars with a (carbon-based fuel) internal combustion engine to batteryelectric powered cars.

Already the governments of Denmark, Germany, Ireland, India, Israel, Netherlands and Sweden have announced that they will ban the sale of new ‘carbon-fueled’ cars from 2030. France, China and the UK have announced to stop the sale of new cars with an internal combustion engine from 2040. On the other hand, Norway wants to ban the sale of these cars already from 2025. “Indeed, I’m talking about cars, not about motorcycles,” Williger explains, “But let’s be realistic: when the sale cars with an internal combustion engine will be stopped after 2030, in one country (the Netherlands) also the sale of mopeds with an internal combustion engine, how big will the chance be that an exception will be made for motorcycles?” BRITISH GOVERNMENT TO CONSIDER BANNING HANDSFREE DEVICES England and Wales could make hands-free cellphone devices illegal for drivers, after research showed that it is no safer than using a hand-held phone, which would include a ban on comm systems for motorcyclists. The Commons Select Committee has said that the Government should consider extending the law against using a mobile phone while driving and has called for a public consultation on the issue by the end of 2019. The Committee also recommended increasing the penalty for using a hand-held device and wants the police to do more to enforce the law. Smart helmets and other communication systems are gaining in popularity for riders, as having access to our phones at all times has become a social and often professional requirement, and in recent years the industry has been booming with increasingly versatile devices. The committee’s recommendation is based on a study that determined these systems are as distracting as using a handheld device, and whether behind the wheel or behind the handlebars, your attention is divided. According to the National Safety Council, drivers on the phone miss up to 50% of what’s happening in their surroundings while taking a call and their

field of view is dramatically narrowed down, so chances are, a similar proportion applies to riders. If such a ban is imposed in the UK, it could spark discussions of similar bans in the rest of Europe and perhaps the rest of the world. “EASY RIDER” STAR PETER FONDA DEAD AT 79 Oscar-nominated actor Peter Fonda, who became a counterculture icon when he co-wrote, produced and starred in seminal 1969 road movie “Easy Rider” fifty years ago, died August 16 of lung cancer at age 79. The son of Hollywood legend Henry Fonda, he appeared in numerous biker movies, including “The Wild Angels” (1966), “Ghost Rider” (2007) and “Wild Hogs” (2007). Fonda earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Easy Rider, which was added to the National Film Registry in 1998, having been deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” In 1991, Peter Fonda attended the National Coalition of Motorcyclists’ 6th annual NCOM Convention to receive the Silver Spoke Award for Entertainment; “In Appreciation For Improving The Image Of Motorcycling.” He was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2002, not only for his work on Easy Rider but also for his motorcyclerelated charity work, including the Love Ride. His interest in motorcycles was the direct result of rebelling against the elder Fonda; "My father didn’t want me to," he once told the L.A. Times newspaper. "It was like, in your face. As soon as I could, I bought a Harley. That was the beginning. Loved it. Never have stopped." QUOTABLE QUOTE: “I have always maintained that society has no business dictating morality.” ~ Peter Fonda (1940-2019) NO HELMET, NO GAS

She mounts the horse unassisted, and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slide from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse’s mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse’s neck, but she slides down the horse’s side anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly impervious to its’ slipping rider. Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blonde attempts to leap away from the horse and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup, she is now at the mercy of the horse’s pounding hooves as her head is struck against the flank of the horse. As her head is quickly moving toward being banged against the ground and she is mere moments away from unconsciousness, to her great fortune, a biker named “Justice Joey”, sees her dilemma and unplugs the horse. He brought dat snake to da barn an let him loose right in da middle and just sat dere and watched. Well, Thibodeaux was watchin’ for a long time, I mean long, an dere wasn’t nuttin’ happenin’. Dat big o le snake jus curled up hiself in da middle of dat barn and slept all day. He didn’t even move and dem rats jus run all around. Thibodeaux got real frustrated and he called up Boudreaux on da phone, “Boudreaux, man, dats some bad advice bout dat snake. Dem rats play all day long. “Boudreaux say,”Man,Thibodeaux, I know just what to do. Give dat snake some Viagra. “Thibodeaux say, “What! Viagra! What’s dat gonna do?” Boudreaux say, “I was just listening to da radio and de man say dat Viagra is da best ting’ to use for a reptile dysfunction.” --------------------------------------------------------------So two blondes had hit the road and were so excited about their long planned “Disney Destination”. They were talking and thought they may have missed a turn, as they were now way out in the country. They looked around and saw an old, scratched up sign that read: Disneyland Left They started to cry, turned around, and headed home.
