I
t is autumn, the season of change! The hottest days of summer are past us and each day is shorter than the last. Trees will soon turn brilliant colors. Soon it will be time for hot cocoa and warm coats and I can’t wait! As a kid, summer was hands down my favorite season, for all the obvious kid-related reasons — summer vacation, pool parties, and the Fourth of July are pretty hard to beat when you’re little. But I’ve always loved fall, too, and the older I get, the more I fall in love with this magical (and heartbreakingly short) season. Not only does fall feel like a fresh start to me more than the new year ever does, the world around (most of) us literally starts changing colors, clothes get cuter, drinks get tastier, soup starts to sound good again, and we get to enjoy Halloween and Thanksgiving (two holidays that are primarily about eating good food) back-to-back. Plus, as much as it sucks when fall is over, it just means we get to jump right into celebrating the winter holidays. It’s basically the perfect season. Fall for me is also the best time for riding, it’s my favorite time to take a trip to East Tennessee. With scenic mountain views, verdant forests, and gorgeous streams, the Smoky Mountains are a natural destination for riders. I love the crisp cool air, the smells are wonderful… smoke, leaves, moist grass and the beautiful colors of the leaves changing, it’s so peaceful, relaxing and a great way to reduce stress. The Smoky Mountains offer rides for every kind of rider. Scenic routes like the Foothills Parkway and Blue Ridge Parkway are perfect for relaxed rides with long graceful turns and incredible scenery, while other routes like the infamous Tail of The Dragon are perfect for more adrenaline pumping rides. If you haven’t ridden on the new section of the Foothills Parkway yet, “The Missing Link”, now’s the time to do so. Check out the Fall Riding Guide in this issue for details on The Missing Link. We’re heading to Hurricane Mills October 10th -13th for Tennessee Motorcycles & Music Revival and we hope to see you there! “ARE YOU THE ONE” I recently had a close Christian brother go through a huge crisis in his life. This brother had done everything right in his church, every time the door was open, he was there, first to come and last one to leave. This personal tragedy brought him to his knees. He asked me a very important question, “Where was God?” I replied, “Right where you left Him.” Grief can quickly turn into fear and fear can destroy your faith. I reminded him of the great man of God, John the Baptist. John was filled with the Holy Spirit while he was still in his mother’s womb. John was raised by very religious people. John the Baptist didn’t start out preaching in the churches and cities, he went out to the desert and preached to the snakes, and the spiders, someone heard him and brought others to hear him, he quickly became to most popular speaker of his day. John even baptized Jesus Christ and heard God’s audible voice, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” John the Baptist was prophesized in the Old Testament to prepare the way for the coming Messiah. John came against the king and the king put him in prison. Matt.11:1-3 “Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said to Jesus, Art thou He that should come, or do we look for another?” This mighty man of God had reached his breaking point of doubt & unbelief. Vs.4 “Jesus answered them, Go and shew John AGAIN.” Jesus didn’t rebuke John but referred him back to the Word “AGAIN.” When the challenges of the world get to be too much, always go back to the Word! Vs. 5 “The blind can see, the lame walk, the lepers cleaned, the dead raised.” This was prophesized in God’s word regarding the coming Messiah. Vs.7 “As they departed,” as John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus spoke to the crowd about John the Baptist but the disciples never heard it; Vs.11 “I say unto you, among them that are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist.” I’m sure that John could have used those emotional words to comfort him, but what John really needed was to be reminded of the Word of God “AGAIN.” Jesus know that the emotional words might help for a short time, but the Word of God will last forever! Today’s October 2019
believers place more value on emotions than they do the Word of God. If we don’t value the Word of God, we’ll lose the Word of God. If we ever start to entertain doubt and unbelief, it will stop our faith. If you ever ask God the question; “Are you the one, or do we look for another?” The devil will be glad to show you “Another.” If you’re in the prison of divorce, sickness, poverty, or addiction, don’t rely on emotions, but stand on the word of God Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. Bowtie – Male Tuxedo / Mixed (short coat) :: Bowtie is a sweet and loving boy looking for his forever home. He thought he had a forever but he ended up at the shelter :( We pulled him out into rescue. He is so sweet he deserves a good life with a great family. You could be that family. You will always be glad you adopted this boy. He is wonderful. He will bring so much love and joy to your life. Casper – Male Domestic Short Hair (short coat) :: Casper is a he’s a total dreamboat and loves being treated with dignity and respect. This deaf fella has no problems communicating and he is very much a lover. He’s in foster care and available at Happy Paws Kitten. Grey Bear – Male Russian Blue / Mixed (medium coat) :: The story of GreyBear: GreyBear is an international man of mystery. Very little is known about his past, or his lineage, which helps support the mystery. Is he Russian Blue? We could call him Sergei. Is he Chartreux, so we should call him Jacques? My bet is more on British Shorthair, so we named him Higgins. Still, we call him GreyBear every day. GreyBear showed up at a farm in Grainger County gravely wounded after an incident with a car. By the time he would accept the presence or help of humans, a great deal of infection had set in to every wound. He was very ill. Happy Paws Kitten Rescue agreed to help this poor, sick, grey thing, if they had a foster, to which of course we agreed. Dr. Mike knew the first action was to address the severe infection and to get some food in this poor guy. The breaks, or any potential amputations, would have to wait until he was stronger. After many weeks of injections and oral antibiotics, pain medication, and a special litter that wouldn’t spread infection, GreyBear was on the mend! Now he just had to be neutered while his breaks were assessed. Despite one badly broken front leg, and another badly broken back leg (thankfully on the other side), Dr. Mike decided against amputation of either, much less both, legs. GB’s mobility is good, even though he does have a somewhat irregular gait. GB is estimated to be about three years. GreyBear is ready for his furever home. Jewel – Female Tabby / Mixed (short coat) :: I am Jewel a 2-3 years old light beige kitty, not only unusual in color but very loving. Giving kisses is my greatest joy and I need a family or person who has me and only me. Other pets scare me and make me stressed. Lovie – Female Tabby / Mixed (short coat) :: My name is Lovie. I am a Tabby mix with really cool markings and color. My foster family has worked with me so much so I wouldn’t be scared. I am a different cat now I roam through the house freely and play with the other kitties here. I wake my foster mom up sometimes in the morning with a massage I am not really a lap cat, but I love to be loved on and petted all the time. I really love to rub my head against you for attention. I am still a little skittish with loud noises. I have not been around dogs so I’m not sure how I would react but I do really well with other cats! I looooove to play little balls!! 6
Molly – Female Tabby / Mixed (short coat) :: Meet Molly - I call her Momma ♥ She had a beautiful litter of 5 ginger kitties and is now ready for her furever home where she can relax and play and eat! She is good with kids and our other cats. Not sure about dogs. She is loving and quiet and has the sweetest face. She plays with her babies, but mostly she just likes to chill. Shyloh – Female Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) :: Greetings, I’m Shyloh and I’m looking for a forever home. I don’t take a lot of time to adjust to humans but I may need a week or so to adjust to other animals. I currently live in a home with dogs, cats, and children and I am getting better and better acquainted all the time. I do have my favorite humans and they get crazy love all the time. I have a funny silent meow. Seriously, my foster family has never heard me meow, they’ve just seen my mouth move as if I should have said something. Vet says I’m perfectly healthy though, so it’s all good there. I do like a quiet atmosphere and play a bit, but only on my time. I have really pretty markings and have a very elegant personality. If you’re looking for a cat who just wants to chill out in front of a window and silently meow at you, I’m really probably the only cat you’ll find to do that. I am looking for a forever home now, consider me while you’re looking. Thanks. Zedeco – Male Tabby (short coat) :: This boy is absolutely beautiful with his unique pattern. He is a little timid with humans, but loves to play with any fur baby that will allow his attention. He does especially well with young cats. Zydeco is not a lap baby, but loves to bump and rub up against you. He will even allow some serious scratching and loving of the hands. He is used to being around other cats, dogs and young children.

RIDING WHILE CARRYING
G
ood day from your ever-lovable Grey Beard Biker! We are rapidly approaching my favorite time of year – autumn. This time of year, the days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping, and the leaves will soon be shining in their full splendor. With the heat we have had this summer, it will be pleasant to ride in a sweatshirt, chaps and my leather jacket. One benefit of riding while bundled up is that it becomes much easier to conceal your pistol. The caveat being that it is also much more difficult and time consuming to get access to said pistol. But I am getting ahead of myself. I would like to relate a true story to our awesome Thunder Roads Magazine Tennessee/Kentucky readers. Dress for Slide – Not the Ride About three weeks ago, we got tangled up with another bike and went down. It was by no means a bad accident. I was leading a group of three bikes and slowed down quickly to turn into a business parking lot. We were doing everything a biker is supposed to do – including riding staggered. The bike staggered behind me came up between me and the parking lot, and I did not see him. I literally turned into his bike when pulling into the parking lot. It was an accident - pure and simple. And I shared a big chunk of the blame as I should have been watching my mirrors more closely or simply went past the business and turned around. Accidents do happen. The other bike did not go down and sustained very minor damage. Our bike did go down and suffered approximately $9,300 damage – all of which was cosmetic (stupid CVOs). You know what they say, “You have either gone down – or you will go down eventually.” There has never been a truer statement – unless of course your motorcycle is only used as a garage ornament. The bike is a machine. It can be replaced. In fact, it already has been. We bought a 2020 FLHTKSE CVO Limited. She is a real beauty. Besides bruising my pride, we both had some fairly minor injuries. Tracy had a small amount of road rash, a sore back and a sprained ankle. I broke my right index finger (which is still sore) and had road rash on my right elbow shoulder and back. But by far, the most painful injury for me was my right hip. It had a very nice contusion from landing on my pistol. The pistol and holster both got a small amount of road rash too, but totally cosmetic. Having concealed carried for the past eight years or so, I almost always ride with a handgun strapped to my belt. It is second nature for me to do so. Hell, sometimes I carry a pistol on my side when I am in the house, because I forget it’s on my side. This is something a biker must consider when he is riding on his/her scooter. Many of my friends
always take their pistol off their body and put it in a saddlebag or the top box. Doing so, makes it less accessible, but might save you a lot of pain if you go down – especially at a speed higher than that which you would use to turn into a parking lot. I am a bit undecided on this. As mentioned in my opening paragraph, it is getting to be the time of year when I can bundle up over my pistol. This would certainly help reduce the shock of having your pistol slam into your side in the unlikely event of going down. But, around here, you wear a heavy biker jacket less that a ¼ of the year. For now, I will probably continue to carry my pistol like I always have – in my belt holster. Dress for the slide, not the ride. This is very true. On the day we had our accident, I was in a tank top, blue jeans and of course, my helmet. Even at the slow speed we were traveling, we both had some serious road rash. If we had been wearing our vented riding jackets, we might have walked away without a scratch. If I had been wearing my riding gloves, I might not have dislocated and broken my finger. Maybe. If we had been moving along at highway speed, our road rash would have been exponentially worse. Those vented riding jackets – especially if they include riding armor – would have helped a whole lot! You should really consider your safety gear and dress for the slide. Until next month, keep the shiny side up and ride often! SLIPPERY ROAD CRICKETS
ot far out of Ely, I was happy to spot a few curves and a small change in elevation on what had so far been a very straight and for the most part uneventful ride on Nevada’s Route 50. On this day, America’s Loneliest Road was hot, about 96 degrees. But, as the locals told me, “it’s a dry heat” and that should me feel cooler - right?
Looking ahead to the curves I found myself getting excited. It had been nearly 100 miles of straight tarmac and that’s when I noticed something on the road. Not just one something, but thousands of them, maybe millions. At first, they seemed like large spiders, tarantula size moving forwards and backwards on the hot asphalt. Then, I saw one hop. By this time, my tires were on top of them, squishing and crunching these crazy large crickets on the road. HUGE crickets, crushed by traffic making a slick, oozy, crunchy road covering. Combined with the heat of the day, a strong nauseating smell emerged from the road and as I entered the curves I’d been so eager to get to, I quickly knew the layers of crickets created a dangerous hazard for two-wheel travelers and was very glad I had slowed down before reaching them. Motorcyclists regularly encounter hazards and oddities on the road. Small animals, bears, bison and deer to slippery leaves, mowed grass and oil spills. Furniture, lawn equipment, shoes, stuffed animals, tools and bottles that have fallen from vehicles can be found lying on the roadways. Items lost by unaware motorists become obstacles on our rides. It’s how we react before we reach the menagerie of road obstacles that is important. It’s a good idea to keep a two second safety margin between you and the vehicle ahead of you. This gives you the opportunity and space to react. Follow too close and you can’t see what may be lying on the road ahead. After the vehicle ahead of you passes over it, your only option may be to hit it if you do not have the space and time to react. Looking ahead, behind and to each side is referred to as Rider Radar by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Creating a habit of constantly checking 360 degrees around you while on your bike will only increase your reaction time when hazards like distracted drivers behind you or sand, gravel, mud and water in the roadway ahead of you occur. Like the slippery road crickets, when looking ahead and seeing a hazard the best idea is to slow down before you get to it. Once you’re at the hazard, or on them where crickets are concerned, October 2019
try not to make any sudden changes in speed or direction. Keep your eyes up looking in the direction you are traveling and not on the hazard. A lifesaving skill you should practice is swerving. A swerve is often referred to as two countersteers. The first countersteer is to avoid a hazard and the second countersteer is to put you back in the direction you are traveling. What is a countersteer? It can be described as a press on the hand grip in the direction you want to go. I’ve heard it also referred to as “push steering”. Want to go right? Then, push on the right handgrip. Going left? Push the left handgrip. There will come the day when a swerve may keep you out of harm’s way. Things to remember when swerving: • look past the object you are trying to miss • keep a steady speed • your body should stay upright and not lean in the direction of the countersteer Keep a sharp eye for all the things you may find crossing your path as you ride. If you’re in Nevada, I was told the road crickets come out every 17 years or so. As always, safe riding starts with you! 2ND ANNUAL VETTE CITY

hen tickets went on sale for the 2019 Vette City Motorcycle Music Fest the promoters quickly realized the old venue wasn’t large enough for the second year event. So Larry and Kimberly Jobe went looking for a bigger better venue and they found it at Edge Hill Farms in Oakland KY. It’s the former site of a motocross track, and with the jumps and berms knocked down and the ground smoothed out and covered in short cut Bermuda grass, it’s the perfect location for the Vette City Motorcycle Music Fest. There is plenty of camping space, plenty of bike parking, and a natural amphitheater at the back of the site which carried the music all throughout the venue. It all started with a kickoff party at Harley-Davidson of Bowling Green with live music, a bike show, food trucks, and hot air balloon rides. Friday they kicked it into high gear at Edge Hill Farms and it was wall to wall action with the Kentucky

Hawg Mafia Biker Games, Dyno Drags, and the Globe of Death show every day, there was even a kid’s zone. Also on Friday they put together a stellar music lineup that was right up my alley, Tantric, Saving Abel, Trapt, Saliva, and Puddle of Mudd. Saturday started with a Ride for B.A.C.A, another poker run, the Pinup Baggers Bike Show, Sound Warz Competition, a demonstration by the American Motorcycle Pullers Association, and the first round of the Thunder RoadsŽ TN/KY Downhill Barbie Car Races hosted by Kentucky Hawg Mafia. The great music continued Saturday with Kiss Kiss Bang, then our pals Jasmine Cain, and Geneva rocked the place followed by Head East, Small Town Titans, Great White, then Jackyl brought the house down. They also presented one lucky ticket holder with a custom Harley supplied by Harley-Davidson of Bowling Green.

Sunday started with an all woman’s ride and helicopter rides, the Downhill Barbie Car Race finals and music from Jenn Ford & Wide Eyed Devils, Louisiana Swamp Donkey, and Colt Ford closed the show. With tons of vendors, all kinds of food trucks, custom builder’s bikes on display, there truly was something for everyone. If you were there, we’re sure you’ll be back, if you didn’t make it this year this is one to put on your calendar for next year, we’ll see you there!

FALL MOTORCYCLE RIDING GUIDE - PART 2

elcome to our second of three Fall Ride Guide articles. Writing these articles can be difficult simply because of the amount of subject matter available here in East Tennessee. What rides, destinations, routes to pick, places to see along the way and so forth are numerous. There truly are so many great places to ride to. This month’s edition is no exception, but it is a little easier as this ride is about to celebrate its one year anniversary- The Foothills Parkway Extension, aka, “The Missing Link”. The actual missing link refers to the 1.65 mile section that proved to be the most challenging to engineer and build. It’s a section that juts out from the mountain side offering unobstructed views to the valley of Townsend below and out into the Great Smokey Mountains. Let’s back up just a bit so that we fully understand the totality of the Foothills Parkway. The Parkway, in 1944, was one of seven Congressionally mandated scenic routes to be built. It’s also one of the last to be completed with a final 39 miles of road yet to be constructed from Wears Valley to Cosby, TN. With all that’s required to survey, fund and actually start construction, it will be decades in the making.
back slow winding ride. It also has several spectacular pull offs along the way with the main pull off/parking area right smack on the actual missing link. The expansive valley below and the sheer rock cliffs behind you creates the feeling that you’re truly hanging out over the edge. Having ridden this both by car and bike, the favored access point seems to be from US 321. And if you’re visiting in October or November, expect it to be crowded coming from this end. That said, I find it more enjoyable to drive through Townsend and come in from the Wears Valley end. It’s just simply less congested making it a better ride. And as an added benefit, as you ride through Townsend and look up, you can actually see the road snaking its way across the mountainside. Another reason I prefer the Townsend route is because of the mountain village cafe’s, the motorcycle friendly lodging, my favorite being Little Arrow Resort, the quaint shops invitingly decorated with everything Fall and filled with artisan crafts, jams, fudge and anything else you can imagine you’ll want to stuff into your saddle bags or bike tow trailer. And not one, but two motorcycle rental shops are available for those who come by car yet still want to ride. While planning a day ride or a multi-day trip, be sure to include The Missing Link in your route. It’s that good!
Currently, the parkway runs from US 129 at Chilhowee Lake to Wears Valley. And from Cosby to Interstate 40. I find that the Cosby to I-40 ride is much more mountainous with limited scenic overlooks. Still a great ride by any standard though. Back to the The Link. The new section is 16 miles from US 321 to Wears Valley Rd. For those who have ridden the parkway west of 321 over the last few years, you’re familiar with the easy, almost lazy riding under a canopy of pines, maples and oaks with many pull offs along the way. With Look Rock at 2,600 feet being the highest and most popular pullout. The new section is almost entirely exposed, yet still affords that laid October 2019

WATERFALLS AND TWISTIES
I
n August, I wrote about Maggie Valley. This month I will give you a ride in the area which I think you will enjoy, if you like seeing waterfalls and/or twisty riding. The waterfalls will provide you with a break from riding, to refresh, and enjoy nature. Warning signs often give clues as to the tightness of the curves, but please ride within your ACTUAL skill level, as much of this ride is in the middle of nowhere and is on lightly traveled roads. As gas stops are few and far between, especially on Hwy 215, start out with a full tank. Remember that your mileage may vary, including whether you go to the various stops and odometer variations. Use these mileages as estimates. Set your trip mileage to -0- at the corner of SOCO Road and Hwy 19/296, in Waynesville. -0- Turn Right onto South 276 (Sweeping curves with tighter curves marked) 30.4 Sliding Rock Falls ($3/person entry fee; 60 ft. rock slide into 50 degree, 10 ft. deep pool; parking available; no alcohol or picnicking; restrooms/unsecure changing rooms; secure all valuables on bike). May want to skip now and double back after the ride to cool off.

MY STURGIS EXPERIENCE By Hank Bonecutter
W
hen you mention the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to a biker, images of motorcycles, wet t-shirt contests, parties and more come to mind. As much as I like all of those things, this is not what my Sturgis experience was like. When I agreed to go with three other brothers last year, I gave myself plenty of time to “talk” myself OUT of going. Yes, as a biker, I felt I HAD to go to Sturgis. As a 66 year old, who partied the entire 70's and 80's, I wasn't feeling the “vibe” to go raise a little hell. That's not why we were going. We went for the experience, and the incredible riding. We went to see national landmarks, and meet bikers from all over the world. We went to get to know each other better. To share stories and to make memories. It's a trip I will never forget. We took a couple of days to get there, and the closer we got, the more bikers we would see. It's a beautiful sight to see when you see an interstate filled with motorcycles. It's also a beautiful sight to see when biker chicks are passing you on said interstate. Our first stop was at the Badlands National Park. The Badlands is close to 243,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles and the largest undisturbed mixed grass prairie in America. It's an awesome sight to behold and as we rode through the park, we were consumed with the thought of the early settlers and how they survived this rugged terrain. There's nothing better than visiting history on the back of a motorcycle. And this was just the beginning. Next, we were off to Wall, South Dakota and the infamous Wall Drug. If you miss stopping at this popular spot, then it's your own fault, because you start seeing interstate billboards for the place about 400 miles back. As we moved on toward Sturgis, I was reminded that I was now in the epicenter of this country's nuclear missile arsenal at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City. I only realized that when I was talking to some people at Wall Drug and they told me about the base. You see, at Wall Drug, they still give free coffee and donuts to all military. (I read that on one of those billboards). We pulled into Rapid City, which is about 25 miles from Sturgis, and stopped at the Black Hills Harley-Davidson dealership. It was a zoo! All I wanted was some pictures and a poker chip. I have never seen so many motorcycles in one place. The lot was filled with at least 500 bikes. Vendors filled the property and the cash register was overheating. We stayed at the Iron Horse Inn, an extremely biker friendly hotel with a design that allowed for all the bikers to park right in front of their room. The rooms were basic and no frills. I didn't care, I was just excited to meet so many new friends. We rode to Mount Rushmore and if you've never seen it, you owe it to yourself to visit. It's a beautiful ride, but as you ride up the hill to the monument, it just takes your breath away. Here's this amazing national treasure that you've studied and seen pictures of
all your life, and now you're here. That alone was worth the trip! Then it was on to Devil's Tower and the Crazy Horse Museum and Monument. I thought that was a great experience, and I learned things I had never known before. Devil's Tower is SO amazing to see! We rode Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway and visited Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon. On the day I left for Colorado, riding through the Black Hills National Forest, at 6am and by myself, was a little intimidating. Not only was it absolutely gorgeous, but the thought of encountering a bear or an elk along the way made me a little nervous. It's one thing to be on the look-out for squirrels, skunks, or deer in Tennessee, but up here, the potential “roadkill” is enormous. And that roadkill could be YOU! I made a lot of memories on this trip to Sturgis. I did exactly what I wanted to do on this trip. I rode with some great guys and met some great people. I learned that bikers come to this rally for a variety of reasons. Some make this an annual trip with longtime friends. Some will rendezvous with friends they've made at this Rally over the years. And yes, some come to Sturgis for the party! With names like Keith Urban, Styx, ZZ Top and others, you can rest assured that it's a helluva party. I visited with some one percenters who were two of the nicest guys I've ever talked to. I visited with some bikers from Germany. I met soldiers, firefighters, mothers and grand dads. A trip to Sturgis should be on every biker's bucket list. Not only is this beautiful country, but the people are amazing. I'm glad I went and I would go again.

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: I’m disturbed by many things I see going on in the world, the United States and in Kentucky and Tennessee. This past week I had work done to my car by a well-known dealership service department. A young woman, probably early 20’s, was behind the counter. She was nice looking and appeared intelligent but seemed well educated at not directly answering any of my questions or giving any commitments. She was quick to let me know there would be a charge to diagnose my cars issues but didn’t mention that the diagnosis cost would be deducted from my bill if I had the dealership do the repairs. I was told that when the issues were diagnosed, they would call me with an estimate. I left the car! 24 hours later I hadn’t heard a thing from her and called the service department. They still didn’t know what the technician had found but would get with him and get back to me. Two hours later I called again….. To make a long story short, I had to do all of the calling, I had repeated promises from this woman to call me with information and never got one call from her. On my last call I was told my car was ready. I had approved the repairs that were made but there were repairs I requested that I couldn’t get any information on until I showed up at the dealership to pick up the car. The woman had no interest in me as a customer, only in making sure she didn’t chip her nail polish tapping on a phone pad. Where was the service manager? Who trained this woman and thought she was acting appropriately towards the customers? Why was an attitude that I should feel lucky they let me get my car serviced there even tolerated? We have a major issue in the world, this nation and our local communities that everything is to be tolerated except expressions of reality!! We have a black Miss America Contest but you can’t have a white Miss America Contest. There is now a credit union for LGBT’s but you can’t have a credit union for heterosexuals! It’s okay for illegal immigrants to get free healthcare but I have to pay for my healthcare. It’s okay for communists to run for congress on a platform that would do away with the October 2019
United States constitution but if you are an American who supports the constitution you are labeled a racist. I’ve never had any involvement with slaves and my grandfather died in the civil war fighting for emancipation but somehow, I’m responsible and am supposed to pay money to people who have never been slaves because of my skin color! We are losing our nation to an education system that is teaching kids unamerican ideals and politicians who take our tax money to make laws that will undercut the fabric of our society. On top of that we now have at least one generation that has limited their worldly experiences to a cell phone and has lost the ability to communicate or actually relate to other people. They think being non-judgmental and non-committal is harmony with the universe and the poor effort they put forward should be accepted!! Where did all of this crap come from??? Theodore Roosevelt pronounced the following ideas on immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. ‘In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.’ He said, “There can be no divided allegiance here.” Bulldog says, “We have a lot of divided allegiance in the United States today. There is a victim wanting special treatment for everything that has made this the greatest country on earth and we have upcoming generations that place no value on our constitution!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. JUDGE DISMISSES COUNTY AS DEFENDANT IN TWIN PEAKS LAWSUIT A federal judge has dismissed McLennan County as a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit filed by three bikers arrested after the 2015 Twin Peaks shootout, but ruled the plaintiffs can pursue claims against the city of Waco and seven individual defendants. The lawsuit, filed by the three bikers who were never indicted in the deadly shootout with law enforcement, is one of about 20 pending Twin Peaks civil lawsuits involving about 130 bikers with claims of unlawful arrest and conspiracy. The plaintiffs allege former McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna was the final policymaker for McLennan County regarding the events at Twin Peaks, but U.S. District Judge Alan Albright ruled that a county sheriff, not the district attorney, is the final policymaker. The lawsuit alleges Reyna was the county’s final policymaker because he “was responsible for devising the overall prosecutorial goals and strategies” of the county on the day of the shootout that left nine bikers dead and 20 injured in a hail of police gunfire, but the judge ruled that “regardless of Reyna’s involvement in helping to decide whether the arrests should be made, he did not have authority to make municipal policy.” The judge denied the city’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The order leaves claims pending against D.A. Reyna, as well as the former Waco police chief, assistant chief and various named officers. More than 200 bikers were jailed on identical arrest warrant allegations. Only one case went to trial, which ended in a hung jury favoring acquittal and a mistrial. District Attorney Barry Johnson, Reyna’s successor, dismissed the remaining charges against the bikers. According to a report by Tommy Witherspoon in Insane Throttle Biker News (www.harleyliberty.com), the lawsuits allege the defendants violated the bikers’ Fourth Amendment rights by obtaining arrest warrants based on a fill-in-the-name affidavit that lacked probable cause. They also allege defendants violated their 14th Amendment due process right to be free from unlawful arrest. Insane Throttle was recently awarded the Silver Spoke Award for Media at the 2019 National Coalition of Motorcyclists’ NCOM Convention in Orlando, Florida.

PROPOSED IOWA ORDINANCE WOULD ALLOW ATVs ON COUNTY ROADS
A committee in Linn County, Iowa is working to pass a new ordinance that will allow ATVs to be driven on county roads, despite concerns about having off-road vehicles sharing the streets with regular vehicles. County Supervisor Brent Oleson said a committee approached him about the ordinance, saying that “I'm all for not taking anything off the table, anything that gets people outdoors can only have positive benefits.” But Sheriff Brian Gardner told TV9 that combining ATVs and regular vehicles on the same road is just too dangerous. “They’re off-road vehicles, and they're designated as off-road vehicles for a reason.” Oleson says they're going to look at what works for ATV ordinances in other areas, and hopes to have something passed before spring. Right now, unless a town or county passes an ordinance allowing it, ATVs can only be driven on one of Iowa's eight riding parks or on private property. ATVs are also allowed to cross streets, with some restrictions. VIRGINIA BECOMES 15TH STATE TO CREATE AN OFFICE OF OUTDOOR RECREATION Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D) has announced the creation of an Office of Outdoor Recreation to lead efforts to promote the outdoor recreation industry in Virginia and recruit new outdoor businesses to the Commonwealth. The outdoor recreation industry contributes nearly $22 billion annually to the Virginia economy, and employs more than 197,000 Virginians. Virginia will be the 15th state in the nation to establish an office or task force dedicated to strengthening the outdoor industry, and the third on the East Coast. “Every region of our Commonwealth is home to unique outdoor assets and recreation opportunities, which continue to earn national praise and are sought out by millions of travelers each year,” Gov. Northam said. “In establishing a statewide Office of Outdoor Recreation, we are taking significant steps to recognize the importance of this industry as a true driver of economic development in the Commonwealth, and demonstrate why Virginia is the natural fit for outdoor business. Outdoor recreation not only improves the growth potential of our communities, but it also aligns with our goals on land conservation, workforce development, and public health.” The Office will lead an effort to grow the outdoor industry in Virginia through industry promotion, coordination, and recruitment. NATIONWIDE MOTORCYCLE THEFTS DECREASING While motorcycle theft has been a significant problem in the US, the latest National Insurance Crime Bureau report indicates that motorcycle thefts across the country went down in 2018, and in fact have been on a steady decline since 2016 after experiencing an uptick the previous two years.

A total of 41,674 motorcycles were reported stolen in 2018 compared with 44,268 reported stolen in 2017 -- a decrease of six percent. By manufacturer, Honda was the most stolen bike brand, followed by Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. Harley-Davidson rounded out the top five. Unsurprisingly, motorcycle thefts in the US are at their peak during the summer months, with August, July, and September, in that order, seeing the highest number of thefts, and with about half as many bikes stolen in February 2018. The report also gives a state-by-state breakdown, and notes that thefts are more common in large metropolitan areas as well. California leads the country in motorcycle thefts, with 7,035 occurring in 2018, followed by Florida with 4,279 thefts reported, then Texas (3,073), New York (1,777) and South Carolina (1,743). By city, New York City led the way with 1,310, then Los Angeles with 628, Miami (595), Las Vegas (540), and San Diego fifth with 527 A total of 16,261 bikes were recovered from thieves in 2018, or about 44% of those stolen. STUDY SHOWS MOTORCYCLES MOST LIKELY VEHICLE TYPE IN U.K. TO BE STOLEN One in every 46 registered motorcycles in the United Kingdom (UK) was stolen last year, according to new figures gained by a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG). In London, one in every 12 bikes was reported stolen in 2018. While the countrywide figure actually signals a modest 3.98% improvement over 2017, the national average of one in 46 still means that motorcycles are seven times more likely to be stolen than any other road vehicle! "For a biker, the theft of their bike is definitely not a victimless crime," said Colin Brown, MAG’s Director of Campaigns & Political Engagement. "More so than for any other mode of transport, riders become emotionally attached to their bikes. For some, the October 2019
loss of a bike is akin to the loss of a family member.” With an average 500 bikes stolen a week in 2018 motorcycles remain the most commonly stolen vehicle in the UK, seven times more likely to be nicked than anything else, which is why security firms are coming up with ever-more sophisticated locks. NEW HAMPSHIRE TO MODERNIZE DMV IN WAKE OF DEADLY JUNE CRASH Following the deadly June 2019 crash that killed seven motorcyclists in New Hampshire, officials want to work with other states to prevent anything like this from happening ever again. The truck driver currently facing seven charges of negligent homicide in those deaths -- who had a Massachusetts-issued CDL -- should not even have been driving, according to his combined driving record. The head of the Massachusetts DMV resigned and others at the agency were fired once this came to light. Over the past few weeks, New Hampshire has also been conducting an internal review of its own DMV records and practices. On August 29, 2019, NH governor Chris Sununu gave a press conference with other top officials to share their findings. The results: nearly 4,000 drivers will have their licenses suspended following a review of over 13,000 out-of-state notices, as well as a backlog of 62 commercial license notices dating back to 2016. One unintended and potentially good consequence of this terrible accident is that it’s led New Hampshire to modernize its DMV system and automate notices, so that paper backlogs like this can’t build up in the future. Additionally, the governor is now pushing the state legislature to allow the NH DMV to become part of a computerized state-to-state driver verification system using Real ID. One of the biggest issues that the terrible crash brought to light is that truck driver Volodymyr Zhukovskyy had a number of driving offenses spread across multiple states -- that obviously didn’t communicate effectively with one another. Creating processes that enhance communication of driving offenses across state lines seems like a logical step toward preventing catastrophes like this in the future.
