I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween and are ready for some fall riding! As much as I love fall, that’s how much Scott doesn’t like it. Not so much because he actually doesn’t like fall, but fall means winter is coming and that’s what he really doesn’t like. What he really does love, is riding his bike and in the winter sometimes he has to go several days without riding and I can tell because after a few days I’m ready to push him off our deck and our deck is 15 feet off the ground! I understand most people don’t get to ride a lot in the winter so we have some winter tech tips in this issue. Tech Tips is going to be a new regular feature, so if you have some tips you would like to share, send them to us, we would love to hear them. Another new feature we are going to have in some issues, is Product Reviews, so if you have a product or know of a product you would like us to review, let us know that too. If you haven’t noticed, last month we started doing our own Bullet Points page that has been a feature in Thunder Roads TN every month for many years, it is now being written by a SF Operator with many years of combat and weapons experience. We are thinking about changing the name to make it ours, if you have a cool idea for a new name let us hear it. We have gotten a lot of great feedback from readers since we took over the magazine, because we publish the magazine for you, we love your feedback, we want the magazine to be what you want to read! You can always email us at ThunderRoadsTn@gmail.com We have an article about the Leslie W. Watson Toy Run put on by BWC, what an amazing group of people. Most people will never know all the work they do in their community and the state. This year’s toy ride and party was so much fun and a huge success, we met so many awesome people that weekend. If you have never been, you don’t know what you’re missing, so put it on your calendar for next year and come out to the Clarksville Speedway, hear some great music, see some amazing bikes, make some new friends and have some fun, all for a GREAT cause! The hustle and bustle of the holidays are upon us! Are you ready!? I’m not, but I do enjoy spending time with family, sitting around the dining room table at Thanksgiving, listening to stories, talking, and laughing, and lets not forgot the amazing food that for some reason we only cook during the holidays, but it’s oh so good! Thanksgiving is a time for joy and good cheer and a time to express to you our sincere appreciation for your confidence and loyalty. So this year, as we sit around the Thanksgiving table, if anyone asks what we are thankful for, we will say it’s all of the new friends we have made, our readers. We are deeply thankful for our READERS and ADVERTISERS and extend to you our best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day. May the good things of life be yours in abundance, not only at Thanksgiving but throughout the coming year! Ride Hard Live Free Denise, Scott & Thunder Dawg

Bullet Points TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT
So you are 21 years old and can legally own a firearm, and you are interested in carrying a pistol of some kind in the state of TN. There are a couple things that are important to know before you make what can be a costly mistake involving a firearm. The first thing that cannot be stressed enough with firearms, is safety! Anytime a firearm is not under your control, it should be locked up. There are several different methods you can use to properly lock a firearm. Your local gun store can give you advice on the best lock or safe for your firearms. The two types of carries in TN are concealed and open carry. Having a concealed weapon on your person is just that, keeping the pistol hidden from plain view. Open carry is having a pistol that is visible and in plain sight. In the state of TN when you get a permit to carry a firearm, it is not necessarily a concealed carry permit. It is a handgun carry permit, so you may carry openly, or concealed. My personal opinion is that having a carry permit should not be taken lightly. If you are stopped by a Law Enforcement Officer and are carrying, as a permit holder you are required to inform the officer that you in fact have a pistol, where it is located, and present your State issued carry permit. Failure to do so can result in severe penalties. There are many laws in place in TN about carrying a firearm in public and it is in your best interest to know them prior to taking on this new adventure of daily carry. You cannot carry if a building has markings on the door prohibiting the carry or possession of a weapon, AKA a gun free zone (schools, theaters, malls, bars, and any establishment marked). It is the prerogative of the establishments whether or not to allow people to carry on their premises, it is your prerogative whether or not you give those businesses your patronage. If you have received formal training with pistols, TN will recognize this training and you can begin the process of obtaining a carry permit. If you do not have formal training, the best thing you can do is find a reputable firearm store that offers the training required by the State of TN. During training you will need to have proper eye and ear protection as well as you’re chosen pistol, some stores rent
4
handguns to help you decide what you want. The most important thing in any training is to find a reputable establishment. Longstanding gun stores are your best asset in finding an instructor for this important skill. TN Gun Country, Guns and Leather in Middle TN, are both excellent examples of stores that have outstanding reputations as well as professional staff and there are many others across the state. Having completed the training required by the state of TN you can then begin the long and hopefully painless process of officially applying for your Carry permit. You will have to take your training certificate to your local DMV, Pay your required fee, have your photo taken, and then go to an offsite location for finger printing. The time you receive your permit, or a letter saying you don’t qualify for a permit can vary. You will have a background check by your County Sheriffs Dept., the TN Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Don’t be discouraged by what seems like a daunting task. If you feel strongly enough about your right to carry a firearm I recommend you do it the right way. It may be a hassle to go through the process to get a concealed carry permit imagine not having the proper training and having a firearm accident! Keep in mind TN is not a traditional open carry state! You must have a carry permit to conceal or open Carry in the state of TN. don’t make the mistake of not having your permit do the right thing and take the class! Know your local Laws and the laws of the places you visit! It is your responsibility, not local law enforcements. http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/tennessee.pdf http://tnguncountry.com http://gunsandleather.com https://www.tn.gov/safety/article/handgunmain

Appleton H-D Mural to Honor the Military Appleton Harley-Davidson is just a few miles from Fort Campbell U.S. Army Base. With so many of their customers either active duty military, or veterans, they decided to pay tribute to all members of the military current and past with a mural, so Tia contacted their old friends at Infinite Ink in Hopkinsville. Heather Lowery, Jason Lowery, Kaz Toby, and Zak Toby spent approximately 70 man (and woman) hours from start to finish. There is a soldier riding a Harley through the main gate at the base, a Bald Eagle to represent freedom, a depiction of the Iwo Jima Memorial to symbolize veterans of all branches, and helicopters in the corner for the 101st Air Assault Division. Stop by and see it if you are in the area.

“Spectacular Vs. The Practical” The modern day Church has gotten so wrapped up in the “Spectacular” that it has walked away from the Practical.” We are so caught up in the goose bumps, chills, thrills, running, shouting, and falling out, that we have stepped right out of the anointing into entertainment. Ministers have made a bunch of “sugar babies” out of our congregations and when trouble hits, they have no substance to sustain them and they leave the Church. That’s why the back door of the Church is bigger than the front door. It’s like a mother feeding her infant child sweet pears, the child will eat it up, but feed that child some vegetables and watch the child spit it out. A good parent will scoop the veggies off the face of the child and shove it back into the child’s mouth until they eat it. That’s also the same job of a Pastor! This generation is more interested in the “sizzle” but not the steak. We will judge sermons on the presentation and not on the substance and King David was an example. Our tendency is to focus on “Spectacular David,” this boy king that was brought out of the sheep fields and made king, killed the giant, was a song writer, great warrior, and the star of Israel. Yet we fail to see what got him there. It was “Practical David;” who was faithful to his God out in the fields when all by himself, faithful to his father, his brothers, and king Saul. When David first became king, his first order of business was to bring back “The Ark of God.” What was important to you as a child will bear fruit as an adult. 2 Sam. 6: 1-15 “David gathered all the chosen men of Israel, 30 thousand… and all the people went with him.” David was so caught up in the “Spectacular” that he forgot the “Practical.” David was doing the right thing but going about it the wrong way! David even put “The Ark of God on a new cart” and David forgot to read God’s instructions for moving the Ark of God. The Ark started to fall and Uzzah and one of David’s men went to grab it “and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there by the Ark of God.” David became “displeased” with God and left the Ark of God with Obededom’s house. From the natural view point we can understand why David was displeased, after all, David November 2015
was trying to do God’s will and it got someone killed. David’s flesh was also embarrassed because this was his first official act as King and this happened in front of over 30 thousand people. David got so caught up in the “Spectacular” he forgot to read God’s instructions on how to move The Ark of God, the “Practical.” Some of us like David might think that God should have understood and cut him some slack, but we must remember that God is God and we are not! God has a reason in everything He does is for our benefit. The problem with the modern day Church today; we think God should understand our sexual affairs, addictions, unfaithfulness and ordaining people who have no right in the pulpits of God’s House. We have become like the Children of Israel creating our own “golden calf.” We want God to look like what we want Him to look like and we’ll spend His gold getting it done. Isa. 55:8-9 “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” We must learn to follow God’s instructions, His way and not our own. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

History of Motorcycles
L
Part 9
ast time we took a look at the 1950’s and the “birth” of the biker lifestyle. The changes in American culture and society continued to rapidly evolve in the 1960’s as well. Harley-Davidson continues branching out during this time, introducing a scooter to their line of rides, as well as the introduction of the Sprint model. In 1962 Harley purchased 60 percent of the stock in the Tomahawk Boat Manufacturing Company and by 1963 the factory is fully operational as a H-D facility. By entering the boat manufacturing game, Harley soon realizes the relevance of fiberglass in motorcycle production and shortly thereafter begins production of its own components. In 1964 the three wheeled Servi-Car becomes the very first Harley-Davidson motorcycle to receive an electric starter. In 1965 the Electra-Glide replaces the DuoGlide and is updated with an electric starter. The ElectraGlide is the first FL available with electric start, and the Sportster line followed soon after. Now don’t get me wrong, kick starting a bike is cool as hell, but if you’re at all like me (lacking in the excess muscle department) then the concept of electric start is consummate. 1966 brought about the birth of the Shovelhead in the Harley family, and the beloved Panhead was replaced on the Electra-Glide models. 1969 brought about the start of the darkest days in Harley history for die-hard lovers of the brand…the merger with American Machine and Foundry, longtime producer of leisure products. On that note, I’m going to pull a June Cleaver and change the subject in an attempt to divert attention from Harley’s adaptation. During the 1960’s Floyd Clymer Imports continued using the Indian name on import bikes that were essentially motorcycles fitted with Royal Einfield Interceptor 750 cc parallel-twin engines. British manufacturers including Triumph, BSA, and Norton continued producing bikes and remained dominant in some markets until the rise of Japanese manufacturers in the late 1960s. Of these Japanese manufacturers, Honda led the way. By 1969 the Honda name was big in the world of motorcycle racing, and they had also introduced the first mass market bike to come with a disc brake. So now that we are up to speed on the framework of the 60’s, we can get to the focus of this installment. The egocentric,
8
inherently dramatic, attention whore of the motorcycle family….the chopper. In the 1960’s chop shops and custom builders started springing up everywhere. As custom shops multiplied, so did the number and the diversity of bikes. The original chopper movement was taken to extremes when builders started chopping down and lowering the frames and stretching the rakes. Some shops even built custom exhaust pipes for their patrons. Now, I know we are all about motorcycle safety, but safety wasn’t necessarily the top priority while creating a custom chopper. Choppers are all about style, beauty, getting noticed…a bit diva-ish if you will. Heavy rake angles sacrificed low-speed handling and cornering ability, but damn you looked good tearing up the asphalt. And let’s face it; by this time in motorcycle history, there was a big enough contingent of people modifying motorcycles that the chopper “style” had begun to take hold. A certain set of modifications became somewhat of a standard…narrow tires on 19”-21” wheels, forward mount foot pegs replaced floorboards, headlights and tanks were often replaced with smaller versions, and last but certainly not least…chrome. Lots of chrome…you’ve gotta have bling for your metal prom queen. One motorcycle modification that began at this time and has stuck around since in one form or another came about due to the passing of a law that required a “retention fixture” for passengers. So a vertical back rest was constructed and added to the rear of bikes…the Sissy Bar is born. And in true chopper fashion, many were custom made to be elaborate and often taller than the rider’s head. Now we can’t forget paint…the 60’s brought about a surge in candy colored paint, metal flaking, and multi-colored patterns. A look that I like to refer to as the “tilt-a whirl” paint job…if you have ever been to a small county fair it will make sense. The chopper truly allowed for the ultimate freedom for both builders and artists. And the 1960’s gave us some of the most memorable and most recognized names in motorcycle history…let’s take a look at a few. Probably the most recognized name in chopper history is Arlen Ness. Ness’s bikes were characterized by having low frames and highly raked springer front ends. Many of his bikes also retained the rear shocks to provide a more forgiving ride than

the typical hardtail chopper. Ness started out of his garage in 1967, on a bike he bought with prize money from a bowling tournament. He entered his first bike in a show and won first place…this started his career in customs. He worked nights out of his garage in San Leandro, California until he had built up a customer base big enough to allow for him to complete customs as his primary job function. ..and the rest (as they say) is history. The biker world is damn happy you know how to bowl, Mr. Ness. In 1967 Denver Mullins and Mondo Porras opened Denver’s Choppers in San Bernardino, California and soon became famous for building “long bikes”….Denver Choppers. Denver’s Choppers was the first company to manufacture long down tube stretch frames, which came to be known as the Swedish style. This company was instrumental in starting the aftermarket industry that flourishes today with custom parts including frames and springer front ends. Mondo has been dubbed “The Godfather of Choppers” by his peers… quite an honor when your peers consist of motorcycle icons. Finally, we cannot discuss choppers without the mention of Ron Finch. Finch opened Finch Custom Cycles in 1965 in a small building in Pontiac, Michigan (GO BLUE!). Finch designed, built, and painted amazing one-off motorcycles in his own incredibly unique and extreme style. In addition, Finch created metal sculptures that resisted any aesthetic classification….the guy may or may not have been a touch off his rocker, but what the hell, his twisted mind made some bad ass metal. Not content with just re-creating metal, he also is highly regarded for his experimentations with paint processes. His first nationally known custom was a 1966 BSA which he named “Kaleidocycle”, which provoked Ed “Big Daddy” Roth to headline Ron as “Michigan’s Motorcycle Madman”. The 1960’s brought lot of changes to the motorcycle world… not that any of these crazy modifications could have possibly been thought up in a pharmaceutically induced delirium, but it sure would make things a little easier to comprehend if they had been. Regardless of where the ideas came from, I’m damn glad they transpired from concepts into the entity that is the chopper. The 60’s made for a captivating installment in motorcycle history. Next time we will look at the 70’s, and what kind of changes the motorcycle lifestyle and industry faced. Melanie Schwarte Melanie@thunderroadsiowa.com

BIKERS WHO CARE 34TH ANNUAL TOY RUN AND PARTY
B
ikers Who Care is just what the name says, it’s a group of bikers who care about children, and they have made it their mission to help them. It all started in 1982 when they held the very first Toy Run in honor of Leslie W. Watson. Watson grew up in Middle Tennessee and early on, he developed a love of motorcycles, especially HarleyDavidsons, he bought his first one in the early 20’s, a 1914 model. In 1940, he travelled to Milwaukee with 2 friends, and they each rode a brand new Harley home. Les’ was a 41 Knucklehead. He opened a motorcycle shop in Clarksville and ran it for over 35 years both as a Harley dealer, and an independent, until his death in 1982. After his death, his youngest son, Booger Watson, was encouraged to put on a Toy Run in his father’s memory. That first year, they had about 100 bikes, collected toys and raised just under $200 for the newly formed Dream Factory of

Clarksville, with the donation being earmarked for Camp Rainbow. When they went to open a bank account they needed a name for the account, and “Bikers Who Care” was born. Each year, with Les’ 41 knucklehead leading the way, the Leslie W. Watson Memorial Toy Run following behind it has grown. In the early years, they had a party after the toy run to celebrate, then someone had the bright idea to have a weekend long party as part of the toy run, to help raise even more money for their charities. This year, once again, the party was a huge success. There are field games, drag races, and a ride in bike show, vendors, live music, tattoo contest, and t-shirt contest. With over 4000 people at the party, there were well over 1200 bikes in the toy parade. Now as a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3), BWC has donated well over $1,250,000 over the years to the various charities they support. They have built a handicap accessible park and playground with donations from the area, they help to fund Clarksville’s Buddy Ball league, a sports league for handicapped children, they donate money to the American Cancer Society, Montgomery County Child Advocacy Center, and Vanderbilt’s Children’s Hospital. BWC helps fund Tennessee

Firefighters Burn Foundation “Camp Phoenix”, a camp for burn survivors from 6-16, where the kids can spend a week at camp without the fear of rejection regardless of their physical features or limitations. The toys collected in the toy run are distributed to needy children in the community through the Clarksville Fire Department, but most of the money they raise, just as it always has, goes to fund Camp Rainbow through Clarksville Dream Factory. Camp Rainbow is a week-long camp for children challenged by physical deformity or serious illness whose medical problems keep them from attending regular camps, so they can just be kids at camp. For the last several years BWC has been able to donate $55,000 a year to Camp Rainbow. Most members will tell you the most rewarding thing they do is the annual motorcycle parade for the campers. They also bring a carnival with a moon walk, dunking booth, games, and an endless supply of cotton candy, after the motorcycle rides, and dinners, the campers put on a talent show for the bikers, they all hang out together, that’s what it’s all about for BWC, helping the kids, and having a good time, because they care.

Bike of the Month
2006 HarleyDavidson Ultra Classic
Congratulations to Tim Emerson on winning our monthly Bike Contest on Facebook! My bike was originally a Shriners bike. When I purchased it in 2008, it was two years old, and it only had 532 miles on it. I guess the guy that owned it before me only rode it in the Shriners parades. So I dressed it down. Took the tour pack off, added some shorter shocks, lowered the front end and it started looking a little like what I imagined. Put extended bags on it and got it painted. Vance and Hines big radius pipes and 12” mini apes with chrome housings and grips really helped the top of the bike. There are many other additions that make the transition complete. It has been a rewarding journey to transform my bike to what you see today. Thanks for voting on it. I’m very grateful and appreciate all the comments. Happy and safe riding!!! If you have a cool custom bike you would like to have featured in our magazine, enter it in our monthly contest by submitting a pic of your bike to ThunderRoadsTn@gmail.com

CHANGE YOUR OIL AT THE END OF THE RIDING SEASON Oil in your engine has several purposes, the most important is the lubrication of moving parts. While it’s keeping the parts from rubbing, it collects contaminants which it hopefully takes to the filter. The filter does a good job of collecting dust, dirt, and metal particles, but that’s not the only thing traveling in your oil. Some of the contaminants in oil are by-products of the combustion process, acids, soot, carbon, water, and fuel. It takes a while for these contaminants to get to harmful levels, but they build up over time, and are part of the reason we need to change our oil in the first place. Some oils do a better job of combating the contaminants, but that’s a topic for another day. Change your oil at the end of the riding season so you don’t store your bike with contaminated oil in it, plain and simple. Even if you ride occasionally during the winter, it sits between those occasional rides, and fresher oil is less contaminated, so it’s still a good idea to change your oil before it will sit for long periods. I use Amsoil in all of my engines, it’s formulated for longer drain intervals, and it will also sit for a long time, but use whatever quality oil you like. The best part of changing your oil before winter, when spring gets here, your fresh oil has many miles left on it. And yes, taking it to a shop to have the oil changed and riding it home is ok. It’s not about having pristine unused oil in the crankcase, it’s about having fresh oil and not letting your bike sit with 5,000 mile old contaminated oil in it. I ride year round when the weather lets me, but unless I know I’m going to ride in the next couple of days, I still treat my bike like it’s going to sit because you never know how long it will be before you get to ride again (remember last winter…) so here are some more winter tips. You may have been told it’s a good idea to start your bike occasionally to let it run for a few minutes. It seems like a good idea to get things moving around, but unless you are going to ride it for a few miles at full operating temperature, including the transmission and primary, it’s a bad idea. Startup and the warm-up process is when your engine produces the most contaminants, especially water in the form of condensation, normally we burn most of the startNovember 2015
up condensation off by riding for a few minutes at full temperature. Just letting it run for a few minutes also puts condensation in the mufflers that can rust out the pipes and baffles after a few years. Keep your tank as close to full as you can, condensation occurs in the air space in the tank so more gas equals less air space to produce moisture. Treat your gas, gasoline has a shelf life if it’s not stored properly, your gas tank is not proper storage, so it can get stale. Now with the introduction of ethanol there are worse things than stale gas. Ethanol absorbs moisture from the air, and it causes gas to stratify, or separate into layers of water, alcohol, and gas. Again I use Amsoil Quickshot, it keeps ethanol from stratifying, it stabilizes the fuel to keep it from going stale, and it has a fuel system cleaner for when you do finally run it out in spring or on a warm day, but use whatever you want that does the same thing and put it in at the gas station and ride it home to make sure it’s in the fuel system before you park. Park your bike on a jack or lift and take some of the pressure off of the tires, you don’t need to lift it 2 feet in the air, and if you don’t have a motorcycle jack, just overinflate your tires by a few pounds and move it around occasionally, does the same thing. You may never develop flat spots on your tires, but if you ever do, those tires are gone, it ruins the ride and your confidence if your tires are thumping every time you turn to the left. One last tip, keep your battery on a tender. Make sure it’s a tender or a smart charger and not an old school charger that’s doesn’t turn off. It will keep your battery charged, warm it up when it needs to, and help it last longer, and again, your bike will be ready to go next spring when you and the weather are ready.

People often complain about the police, but you rarely hear about the positive things they do, such as this incident involving a biker and a frozen carburetor. Last January on a bitterly cold winter’s day, a North Dakota state trooper on patrol came upon a motorcyclist who was stalled by the roadside. The biker was swathed in heavy protective clothing and wearing a full-face helmet to protect the face from the cold weather. “What’s the matter? asked the Trooper “Carburetor’s frozen,” was the terse reply. “Pee on it. That’ll thaw it out.” “I can’t,” said the biker. It’s an issue.” “OK, watch me closely, and I’ll show you.” The trooper unzipped and promptly warmed the carburetor as promised. Moments later the bike started, and the rider drove off, waving. A few days later, the local State Troopers’ office received a note of thanks from the father of the motorcyclist. It began: “On behalf of my daughter Jill...” ______________________________________________________ The football Coach noticed that his star tackle, “Boner”, had so many women hanging around that he couldn’t possibly handle all of them. So one day he asked Boner “Just what the hell is your secret, kid?” Boner replies, “Well, Coach, whenever I’m about to have sex, I always whip it out and bang it on the dresser like a hammer. That numbs it up, and I can screw ‘em till they beg me to stop!” The Coach went home early one day and went to the bedroom. He heard his wife in the shower. Seeing a window of opportunity, he tore off his clothes and started bangin’ the hell out of his “wanker” on the dresser. His wife stuck her head out of the shower and yells out, “That you Boner, baby?” ______________________________________________________ What do you do with 365 used condoms? Melt them down and call it a very Goodyear. ______________________________________________________ A biker’s greatest achievement was his brood of six kids. He was so proud that he continually called his wife: “Mother of Six”, which pissed her off to no end. But he kept referring to her as “Mother of Six” no matter where they went. At end of a poker run, he shouted across the bar, “Hey, “Mother of Six”, you ready to go home?” His irritated wife screamed back: “Anytime you’re ready, “Father of Four”!”

One day a father gets out of work and on his way home he suddenly remembers that it’s his daughter’s birthday. He pulls over to a Toy Shop and asks the sales person, ‘How much for one of those Barbie’s in the display window?’ The salesperson answers, ‘Which one do you mean, sir? We have: Work Out Barbie for $19.95, Shopping Barbie for $19.95, Beach Barbie for $19.95, Disco Barbie for $19.95, Ballerina Barbie for $19.95, Astronaut Barbie for $19.95, Skater Barbie for $19.95, and the most popular; Divorced Barbie for $299.95’. The amazed father yells: ‘It’s how much?! Why is the Divorced Barbie $299.95 and the others only $19.95?’ The annoyed salesperson rolls her eyes, sighs, and answers: ‘Sir..., Divorced Barbie comes with: Ken’s Audi A-8, Ken’s Malibu Beach house, Ken’s Danzi Z33 Race Boat, Ken’s Designer Furniture, Ken’s Screamin’-Meanie Platinum Computer, all of Ken’s new Platinum credit cards, and a custom key chain made with Platinum dipped dangling Ken’s Balls. ______________________________________________________ Two bikers; Mouse and Sprocket, rode into a gas station in Kentucky for a fill-up because they heard about a contest being offered by the station to patrons who purchased a full tank of gas. When they went inside to pay, the guys asked the attendant about the contest. “If you win, you’re entitled to free sex” said the attendant. “How do we enter?” asked Sprocket. “Well, I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10, if you guess right, you win free sex.” “OK. I guess 7,” said Sprocket. “Sorry, I was thinking of 8,” replied the attendant. The next week, the two buddies go back to the same station to get gas. When they went inside to pay, Mouse asked the attendant if the contest was still going on. “Sure,” replied the attendant. “I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10, if you guess right you win free sex.” “2” said Mouse. “Sorry, I was thinking of 3,” replied the attendant. “Y’all come back soon and try again.” As they walked back to their bikes, Sprocket said to Mouse, “You know, I’m beginning to think this contest is rigged.” “No way,” replied Mouse. “My wife won three times last week.” ______________________________________________________ A Flight Attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket and he opened his trench coat and flashed her. Without missing a beat....she said, “Sir, I need to see your ticket, not your stub.”

Lady Rider
Carrie German My name is Carrie German and I have grown up around Harley Davidsons my whole life. I had logged countless miles as a passenger but a little over a year ago my husband finally convinced me to take the basic riders course at Appleton Harley-Davidson. My husband is also an instructor so I had been practicing riding our bike around the neighborhood. I took the riding course in May and realized that I really enjoyed being behind the handlebars. Two days after I graduated, my husband surprised me by buying me a 2014 Dyna Street Bob. I think I slept in the garage that night with her. I started out on short little trips around the block, each day going a little further. After about 2 months, I finally had the courage and confidence to do my first big trip. We left our house and headed down Highway 12 to the Brewhouse in Nashville. I will never forget the ear to ear grin from the pictures we took once we arrived. I rode all year, as long as there was no snow or ice on the ground. I racked up about 12,000 miles for the year. In July I logged my longest trip to date. We took off on a Saturday morning and headed north to visit my family in Indiana. We rode for about 7 hours that day and visited with family. We woke up Sunday morning and headed back. All in all I logged 815 miles in those two days. Definitely glad I worked my way up to that distance, there is no way that I could have done it sooner, I would not have been able to enjoy the ride. I am so thankful that I went through the class and can enjoy riding from a whole new perspective. November 2015

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: What is up with all these foreigners moving to Tennessee? When I say foreigners I mean anyone who used to live somewhere else and all of a sudden decided they didn’t like the place they were at and decided to move here and bring all the crap they hated in their old state here for us to hate. I’m all about sharing but what these folks are bringing is what some folks I know would call a Butt Load!! I live in the Nashville area so I have to talk mostly about what is happening here but if you live in Tennessee you are experiencing much of the same stuff. Politicians and the loony in other states have instituted so many laws, regulations; free give away programs and taxes to pay for them that people can’t afford to live there anymore. The strict gun laws in other states makes living in them really dangerous. Tennessee (with the possible exception of the mayors of Nashville) has done a pretty good job of fending off outrageous taxes and hover parenting by government. The second amendment still means something here as does the original constitution. We battled the forces of evil several years ago and stopped the implementation of a state income tax. We still have counties where you don’t have to go through emissions testing to license your car and in most places if you own property you can raise chickens, a garden and put up an American flag without having to go to court. The Tennessee government has even seen fit to support our right to protect ourselves from those with criminal intent. Hoooaahh!! I heard last night on TV that ninety-five people a day are moving into Nashville. They said that averages fortyfive more cars per day. Traffic is so awful the outsiders are pushing to build a train system from surrounding cities and counties so folks who live in a nice place can get to downtown in less than a day and a half. If we wanted to live in New York City we would have left here and gone there. Nashville is on track to become Atlanta. Last time I was in Atlanta I couldn’t find an American anywhere. You had to drive 75 miles into the country to find someone who was born in Georgia and that is beginning to happen here. I used

to have a nice sane drive to work every day. Now its butt hugging tailgaters riding my rear with people who make it their mission in life to keep me from changing lanes and all at the breakneck speed of three miles an hour. It took me an hour and fifteen minutes last week to go twenty miles. I’ve just about given up on riding my bike to work. The traffic is so slow my air cooled motor starts frying the minute I get on the interstate. My wife is beginning to worry I may go berserk and just start crashing cars one day. These people from out of state are rude, they flip you off rather than wave and they somehow confuse southern hospitality with a personal attack. They act like they are the only person on earth who counts and because we leave room in front of our car in traffic so people can change lanes we’re just a bunch of dumb hicks who need to be run over. If you ride a motorcycle you are more of a target than ever for these perverted miscreants. They don’t mind cutting you off and riding your bumper and they act like the road is their private property. I’ve been looking for a holster that would allow me to mount a pistol on my handlebars in easy reach. The wife says if I get one I’ll end up in prison for ventilating some blond putting on eye make-up and yakking on a cell phone who drifts into my lane. What would be really cool are small anti-vehicle missiles that seek out of state license plates. If we had them TDOT would have to widen the shoulders and make big ditches along the sides of the road to collect those forty five cars a day. I’d buy stock in the missile company and use the profits to buy a house in the country where I could get away from the ongoing Zombie Apocalypse. I propose we mandate shock collars for all persons who move to Tennessee and give every Tennessean an actuator button. Any misdeed gets a shock. At the end of a year any new resident who can talk without slobbering can stay. The others get shipped back. Who’s with me??? Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but, we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.

ORANGE BASIL TURKEY BREAST 1 Large, Boneless, Skin-On Turkey Breast 1 Stick of Butter; softened to room temp. 1 Tbl. of Dry Basil 1 Tbl. of Dry Orange Peel Seasoning (in seasoning aisle Salt & Pepper to taste 1 Medium, Aluminum, Throw-Away Turkey Pan (in Home Goods section of any Wally World or Target’) 1 Jar of Smucker’s Orange Marmalade Preheat oven to whatever temp. advised on package of Turkey Breast. Use spray butter to coat bottom of aluminum turkey pan w/ handles. Place bare turkey breast on a long sheet of Cling Wrap or anything? to lay down on counter and protect from poultry juices running all over your countertop. (E coli is a tricky entity). In a medium bowl, mix together the soft butter, basil and orange peel seasoning. Now, wet your hands w/ warm water and extremely gently lift the skin up and very slowly work your hand back towards the end and then ease it back towards the front until you’ve made a pouch of the entire skin on front of turkey. Now, get a generous helping of the butter/basil mixture and rub it all up under the skin of turkey. Slather some all over the outer skin also and generously salt & pepper your turkey. Create an aluminum tent and cook 3/4 of the time it says on pkg. w/ tent on, the last half hour, remove tent and pour Orange Marmalade into a small bowl and with a basting brush cover the bird up entirely with the marmalade. It should get a perfect deep golden brown. Keep basting it periodically for the final half hour. Remove from oven, place foil back over it and let it set for 15 minutes before slicing. This is such an amazing taste and succulent; you’ll be coming up with your own variations like I did. Cook (2) if feeding a big crowd only use a large size aluminum pan. and double up the recipe. Truly scrumptious and so easy you don’t have to wait until holidays to enjoy.

Using a pizza cutter or really good, sharp knife, cut the crust into 3-inch squares. Using a basting brush, brush the crust with half of melted butter. The other Tbls. went into mixture. Work w/ one square at a time and place a tsp. of the mixture into the center of each square. Bring the corners of each square together to form a pyramid shape. Angel City Bike Rally BY: REBEL RON
I
have been hearing lots of good reports on how fun this event near Macon, GA was. That’s one of the benefits of having customers from all over Dixieland at S & G Custom Cycles, I get to talk to people that I may never have met if I worked elsewhere. Besides this year was the 10th anniversary Angel City Rally so I had to go! I grabbed a long time lady pal, Cheryl Baker, and we headed South after work that Friday, October 9 for the 400 mile trip to Unadilla, GA. We planned to enjoy the second day and night of the 4 day event. It was worth the trip and I highly recommend my fellow Tennesseans check it out. They have two events every year in April & October and the site is very cool. You literally can ride your iron horse through the streets of this Old West looking town and park it along the street just like a cowboy would have done his horse. Riders are constantly passing through those streets on all sorts of bikes with all sorts of characters on them. Angel City is laid out like many western towns were in the 1800s and the streets are lined with stores selling a variety of items. There are saloons, restaurants, and the center of town is the music venue that had bands playing all day and half the night. I wanted to meet Butch Patrick who played Eddie Munster in the old TV series back in the 1960s, “The Munsters”. It was a treat to sit and talk to him since we were one of the first to his area, he seems to be a good guy. I was amazed at how many TV shows and movies he was in back then. Impressive! He had a replica of the two cars from the show with him, the Munster mobile and Grandpa’s casket car. However, the one that meant so much to me was the actual bicycle Eddie Munster rode in the show which only ran for three seasons, 1964-1966. The frame on his 20 inch bike was made from welded chain links. (My brother Timbo and I thought that was the coolest thing.) Great addition to the event. We met a lot of nice and funny people while walking or traveling around the town/campsite area where many parties were going on and you were invited to join them. Southern hospitality at its best. There were biker games going on and a few of them I had never seen that were fun to watch. More beers, food and music, later the fantastic Halloween costume contest began and it was very entertaining. All this took place between a variety of bands playing country, rock, and blues. They had a very respectful and moving tribute to our military troops by recognizing men who served during WW II, Vietnam, up to the current Middle East conflicts. Did I mention this rally is known for selling $2 beers? Served by very pretty ladies too I might add. We were waiting to catch the Blues Brothers Soul band’s show since I have been a fan of Blues Brothers act. I have to say if the original Blues Brothers were half as fun to watch than this band, then they had to be great!!! Outstanding performance all the way around. They rocked all our sense, sound, site, and soul. Two big thumbs up from the two Tennesseans who

were happy to be there. Look for Angel City Motorcycle Rally online and on Facebook and consider going next year. Lots of camping space and hotels are not too far away either. Fun people, cool location, and I never saw any problems. Check ‘em out, you’ll be glad you did. We sure were!!!!

NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)
MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY PURSUES INTELLIGENT BIKES The motorcycle industry recently took a major step toward the “connected bike” when three major OEMs announced the launch of a Connected Motorcycle Consortium (CMC), with Yamaha, BMW and Honda entering into a joint agreement to accelerate the development of intelligent bikes, whose technology development and inclusion in the greater mobility picture have lagged behind the connected-car movement. Industry officials made the joint announcement at the 2015 ITS World Congress in Bordeaux, France, and the newly formed organization follows the 2014 signing of a far reaching Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by all members of the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) stating that connected motorcycles will be available for sale within the next five years incorporating smart safety devices that speak with each other across brands and products. The CMC will focus on sharing information and technology to get Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) applications onto powered two-wheelers by 2020, and the three manufacturers are encouraging other motorcycle OEMs to join the consortium in an effort to standardize C-ITS protocols across the motorcycle industry. “In order to speed up more motorcycle-specific safety developments, we intend to cooperate to promote a successful implementation of C-ITS in motorcycles and scooters,” said Honda’s Tetsuo Suzuki. “The next logical step is to enter into a cooperation dedicated solely to the challenges relating to powered two-wheelers,” added Takaaki Kimura, of Yamaha. “Our aim is to promote a timely and comprehensive use of cooperative ITS systems in powered-two wheelers offering the potential to improve safety. We therefore encourage other companies to join us,” said Prof. Dr. Karl Viktor Schaller, of BMW Motorrad. ITS technologies offer the potential to further increase safety, security and efficiency in all transport systems, in particular for motorcycles. Future systems development will further integrate V2V features, in particular interoperable networked wireless communication between vehicles to enable road users to make coordinated and informed decisions about their route as well as allowing safer maneuvering in busy urban environments. DOJ CREATES NEW COUNCIL TO COMBAT “ANTIGOVERNMENT VIEWS” “Americans motivated by anti-government views and racist ideologies” will be the focus of a new Department of Justice position to coordinate investigations into violent homegrown extremism. Assistant Attorney General John Carlin, head of the department’s national security division, told a George 28
Washington University audience on October 14, 2015 that while the international terror threat occupies the public attention, federal officials remain just as concerned about the prospect of violence from Americans motivated by antigovernment views and racist ideologies. “We need to make sure we have the mechanisms in place so that we can continue to remain just as focused on the domestic terrorism threat while addressing the international terrorism threat,” Carlin said in a question-and-answer session following a speech at the university. The new “Domestic Terrorism Council” will work with U.S. attorneys nationwide “to identify trends that can be used to help shape a national strategy.” The new council should not be confused with another new department previously created by former AG Eric Holder, the DOJ’s Domestic Terrorism Task Force which also focuses on “anti-government extremism.” SURVEY CONFIRMS THAT BIKER PROFILING IS A NATIONAL EPIDEMIC The National Motorcycle Profiling Survey that began October 1st is already beginning to show some strong early trends confirming that motorcyclist profiling is a prevalent and widespread problem, and is expected to yield some very interesting and telling statistics which can assist motorcyclists in recapturing our rights base across the country. The questionnaire posted on Survey Monkey is intended to provide a clearer picture of motorcycle profiling from a national perspective through a thorough and comprehensive series of specific and detailed questions. One very interesting statistic shows that 84.5% of the nearly 1,400 surveyed so far feel that being a biker has a negative impact on their civil rights, and report that riding a motorcycle places them under a higher level of scrutiny from both law enforcement and business owners. Importantly, this is not just a club issue, as 41.5% of those surveyed were independent riders and wear no identifying logo or emblem. Still, some independents from groups like the Legion Riders, ABATE, and VFW have reported being discriminated and profiled due to their patches and other attire. “The initial results are very informative and are starting to paint the picture we have been seeing in our community for a long time,” said David “Double D” Devereaux of the Motorcycle Profiling Project (www.motorcycleprofilingproject.com), “but this time our legislative representatives, who aren’t familiar with the motorcycle community will be able to see it too.” The National Motorcycle Profiling Survey, created by the North Florida Confederation of Clubs and sponsored by the MPP, will provide invaluable insight into the issue of motorcycle profiling in America as we move towards an effort to pass a

The website Pure Gas (www. pure-gas.org) is a definitive listing of gas stations that sell pure, ethanol-free gasoline, and currently lists 10,159 locations in the U.S. and Canada. “Many cars, motorcycles, boats, aircraft and tools have engines that run worse, or have parts that deteriorate, when run on gasoline that contains ethanol. In addition, ethanol leaves residue on valves and other parts that can hinder performance,” claims the site. The website doesn’t get into the political side of ethanol in gasoline, and this site does not sell advertising or seek sponsors. You just click on your state or province to find out in your city those where you can fill up with pure gas without ethanol, and your search provides a list of 100 ethanol-free gas stations sorted nearest to furthest. The site also allows visitors to add new stations or remove existing ones. You can save the Pure Gas website URL address on your phone or tablet to use the listing while traveling, or Pure Gas apps are also available. U.S. DUTY ON JAPANESE MOTORCYCLES TO BE LIFTED UNDER TRADE AGREEMENT The United States will remove a tariff levied on Japanese motorcycles with engine displacements of over 700cc under the November 2015
recently agreed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact, according to Japan Times, and the 2.4% duty will be eliminated five years after the multilateral trade deal takes effect. The United States, Japan and 10 other Pacific countries reached a broad agreement in early October to establish a free trade bloc covering 40 percent of the global economy. For Japan, the new trade initiative will eliminate 99.9% of tariffs on industrial products within the TPP zone. Japan has exported about 120,000 motorcycles with engines of 251cc or higher annually to the U.S. market in recent years. Honda Motor Co., the world’s largest motorcycle maker by volume, and Yamaha Motor Co., compete with local rivals such as Harley-Davidson Motor Co., which mainly focuses on motorcycles with engine displacements of over 600cc. The U.S. government imposes no tariff on imported motorbikes with engines of 700 cc or lower. Japanese motorcycle makers are trying to beef up sales in the United States and Asian markets to offset flagging demand in Japan, where sales dropped to about 410,000 units in 2014 from a peak of 3.28 million in 1982. Following the broad agreement reached at ministerial talks on Oct. 5, the 12 member nations of the TPP will need to finalize the text of the treaty for formal approval in their respective countries ahead of final ratification. In addition to the U.S. and Japan, the ten other TPP members are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
