APPY THANKSGIVING, to all of you that have put up with me all year. I get so excited I have to share, sometimes too much. I am Thankful I have friends that listen anyway. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Thanksgiving is more than the festivities, it gives us time ponder upon what lessons we have learned and how we can spread happiness around, to look back at all the great memories and good people who came in our lives. Thanksgiving is a time to gather around loved ones… to be grateful for all that we have been so abundantly blessed with and also to spare a thought for those not so lucky. It is a season of bountifulness and a reason to share the same… true Thanksgiving is in actually doing that – Giving!!! When it comes to bikers, you know we’re all about camaraderie. We show the spirit of brother- and sisterhood all year long, and it’s not always exclusive to fellow riders. Doing good is what seems best. Doing good also earns you respect. But more than that, it makes you feel good about yourself. Thus, do a good deed this Thanksgiving! Also, let us remember all the sacrifices made by our military so that we could have a safer life. No amount of appreciation will be sufficient enough to honor them. Let us just pray for them and their families. And a heartfelt Veterans Day salute of thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country while protecting the freedoms of our great nation. Thanksgiving is a time when you can get together with family members who you haven’t seen in a year to enjoy good home-cooked food. There’s nothing quite like the taste of turkey, dressing, and sweet potatoes. But it’s also the nation’s busiest travel day of the year, with millions of motorists hogging the roads. If you plan to commute by motorcycle this Turkey Day, here’s a few tips to help you reach your destination accident-free. Whether it’s a short 20-minute commute to the other side of town, or if you’re driving 100+ miles, safety should be your top priority. Before hitting the road, you first plan a route with minimal traffic. Taking the same route you normally take could place you in bumperto-bumper traffic. Check out Google Maps or your GPS navigation system for alternate routes. Sure, you may have to drive additional miles, but at least you won’t be stuck on the roads with thousands of other cars sitting bumper-to-bumper. I’m sure this is common sense to most people, but you should wear the appropriate safety gear before hitting the roads on your motorcycle this Thanksgiving. Even if you drive safe and cautiously, you can’t predict what the million plus other idiots are going to do. Some of them may cut you off or veer into your lane without checking (happens all the time, unfortunately). And if you aren’t looking out for these morons, you could end up spending your Thanksgiving in some backwoods hospital. Do a quick pre-trip inspection, checking the tire tread, tire air pressure, oil, fuel, lights and coolant. It only takes a couple of minutes to perform a quick inspection, and doing so could mean the difference between breaking down on the side of the road and safely reaching your destination. Whether you’re traveling or staying home this Thanksgiving, we wish you the happiness of good friends, the joy of a happy family, and the wonder of the holiday season. Have a memorable Thanksgiving! Ride Hard Live Free, Denise & Scott

“THE CALLING, THE PURPOSE, AND THE MISSION” Luke 10:1-11 “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also.” This seventy disciples were in addition to the twelve He already had. Even Jesus had levels of ministry; His Inner circle (Peter, James, and John), then the other nine disciples, and now the seventy. “And sent them two by two before His face.” He sent them “two by two” so they could be in agreement. Matt.18:19 “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” Amos 3:3 “How can two walk together unless they agree.” Luke 10:1 you can’t be sent (the purpose) until you’ve been appointed (the calling). “Before His face,” He blessed them as individuals not corporately. Jesus sent them “into every city and place, whither He Himself would come” (the mission). Every Christian has a calling, a purpose, and a mission. God didn’t just save us from our sin, God has a strategic plan for every one of us. Most Christians don’t realize this, they think salvation is just about forgiveness of sins, but there is another benefit to this salvation process, God has mission for every one of us. Jesus said Vs.2 “The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.” There are plenty of people but very few workers! “I send you forth as lambs among wolves,” Jesus doesn’t expect us to just let the world run over us, Jesus wants us sensitive and vulnerable not comfortable. 1 Cor.1:27 “God has chosen the foolish things of the world (vulnerable) to confound the wise; the weak (vulnerable) things to confound the mighty. And the base things (vulnerable). 2 Cor, 12:9 “…for my (Gods) strength is made perfect in (our) weakness.” God did not call us to fight the wolves, He called us for a purpose and with a mission. The wolf (devil) wants to get us side tracked so we lose sight of our mission. Don’t look behind you nor side to side but stay focused on what’s straight ahead.

Philp. 3:13 “Forgetting those things which are behind us, reaching forth unto those things which are before us.” Eph. 6:12 “For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” 2 Chron. 20:15 “…Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

He does not live a hustle and bustle busy life. He is quite content to sit on the back of a couch bathing in the sun while watching you do house chores. He is a talker, and has a lot to say. He enjoys cuddling with stuffed animals and he is a firm believer in “If I fits, I sits!”
Staffordshire Terrier Mix. This silly boy is bound to make your day! He is an absolute goofy goober and everyone’s favorite little comedian, he lightens everyone’s moods with his shenanigans. He loves affection and just loves to be loved, but he doesn’t get nearly enough of that here. He also likes to play with other dogs as long as they’re polite like him!

The busy shelter is no place for this girl, so she tends to hide out during the day, and venture out during closing hours. She gets along pretty well with other cats. Do you have the patience and a loving home to bring this girl out of her shell?
Medium Hair. Betty is a quiet cat, but not shy. She is very affectionate, you can tell she’s been a mom. Before she came to McKamey she was discovered in someone’s garage. She showed up because she needed a safe place to have her kittens! She’s done taking care of babies now and is ready for someone to take care of her for a change. Chock - 2 year old male American

COVER BIKE STORY
MY RIDE WITH WILLIE G.
Curt & Willie G. 10-12-1986
Narrated by Clinton “Curt” Chamblee Written by Jeremy Dean
Curt & Mark Bitner
There are a few times in life when you have the opportunity to make those special memories that you know will stick with you for a lifetime. On Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, a lifetime memory was made for me in a very unique way. I am rarely speechless, but on this particular day I was. It seemed like a normal day at work, conducting business as usual, but by the end of the day I noticed employees and friends gathering...but I still didn’t catch on. I was asked to go outside, and there it was…a bike that I have been on and around my entire life, and a set of keys being dangled in front of me. I was immediately in disbelief. Was it truly mine? This bike was owned by Mark Bitner, a lifetime friend and customer. Mark, an outdoor enthusiast since the age of fifteen, now fifty-five and loving life on his 2001 H-D Electra Glide Classic (that he puts about 5,000 miles on each year), was the only previous owner of this 1985 H-D FXRC. This bike has 239,000 miles on it now, but it still looks like new. The top end was replaced, and a cam, carb, and exhaust changed, but believe it or not, it is still on the original bottom end. It has lots of chrome, the rest of the bike is basically still stock, paint still shining brightly in the sun...and the sound, you just can’t beat the sound of a good ole carbureted Evolution motor. Mark bought the bike new in May of 1985 for $8500, from Floyd Wilson Motorcycle Sales in Lebanon, TN. He has ridden it to flat-track races in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, and all the major hangouts. So, he has had many special memories on the bike, no doubt. He says he was sure the motorcycle would outlast him, and he has never had any intention of selling it. It’s hard to imagine that 8

he would, right? The bike, for me, dates all the way back to October 12, 1986. I was seven years old, and our family business, C&S Harley-Davidson, was sponsoring the AMRA Harley-Davidson Drag Finals at the Clarksville Raceway in Clarksville, TN. It was the day I met Willie G., grandson of Harley-Davidson co-founder, William A. Davidson. I don’t have to tell most of you, but Willie G. Davidson is affectionately known today by millions of motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide as simply “Willie G.” My dad, Phil Chamblee, knew Willie G. before becoming a dealer, because Willie G. enjoyed H-D drag racing. Dad would see him at racetracks all over the U.S., and dad’s fuel-burning drag bike was National Champion in 1985 & 1986. So, Willie G. would always ask how the ole “yellow digger” was doing, which is the name that stuck on dad’s bike. My dad bought Sanders Harley-Davidson & Marine in 1984, he branded it for the family as C&S Harley-Davidson, and we were off and running the great American dream. Getting back to Sunday, October 12, 1986, it was 1:00 PM, and as part of the day’s festivities and flag presentation, following the singing of our National Anthem, my dad borrowed this motorcycle from Mark for Willie G. to accompany him in the racetrack parade. And, I was honored to get the chance to take that ride sitting behind Willie G. How’s that for a seven-year-old lifetime memory? For those of you who don’t know me, I currently own Highway 12 Motorsports, and I have been an avid motorcycle rider, and in the motorcycle community, for my entire life. I have collected quite a few bikes that mean a lot to me. I have a 1960 model Police Special Panhead that my father and his lead mechanic, Neil Sizemore, built together back when I was so small I was “just in their way.” I have shown that bike at motorcycle rallies and events over the years, and I’m sure I will pass it on to my son in the future. I also have a nice, clean, stock 1979 Shovelhead Lowrider that has only 9,000 miles on it. That was my birth year. There’s also a cool 1984 first-year Softail FXST that’s a nice gem. How about that 75th Anniversary 1978 FLH Electra Glide, or the 1980 FXDWG, first-year Wide Glide (factory paint) in the collection...there are a lifetime of memories tied up in all of these gems, even more-so than their dollar value, because they each mean a ton to me. And, this FXRC is the crown. A couple years back, dad told Mark if he ever considered selling it to give him first shot. So, when Mark visited Highway 12 Motorsports around the first of July, this year, and told dad he would consider selling it because it just wasn’t getting the attention it needed, my dad could not contain himself. They shook hands on it right then. What made it harder on my dad November 2018
was the fact that he kept it a secret from everyone but Mark. Mark says he could not think of selling to anyone or anywhere more meant-to-be than being able to show this treasure at Highway 12 Motorsports. In honoring that memory and bringing that bike home, I just cannot express what that means to me. Mark has created his own indelible place of beauty in my special lifetime moments. Highway 12 Motorsports is more than my business today, because the memories I have on display, the ambient reflections of my upbringing and the growing up in a time of hands-on learning are all warm reminders in how I strive to treat my business and loyal patrons now. Highway 12 Motorsports celebrated five years in business last month, on October 26th, and a great number of special moments went into getting here. Since 1984, business has been a big part of my life growing up, and I have been blessed to have met and become friends with many great folks. Having been able to maintain relationships over the years with so many of you, even now, it polishes my reflections of a time when a handshake was a contract, customers and friendships were loyal, and people were remembered more for not who they were but how they treated others. Wednesday, August 8, 2018 - Thirtytwo years later, I got my chance to revive a memory. I now hold something lost, and it’s mine to keep through the memories ahead. Dad once again asked Mark for the motorcycle, but this time it was for my own parade...a surprise reveal complete with friends, family and employees present, as my dad passed down another milestone memory to me... that brings it all full-circle. I was truly surprised and honored. I must admit, I rarely feel spoiled, but on that day I was. Not sure I deserve, or can live up to, what the bike deserves, but I guarantee I’ll try. Hopefully, you will still see this bike out and about and stacking up some more miles and memories. I’m really grateful to Mark, my dad, friends and the Highway 12 Motorsports crew for such an amazing surprise gift. It still makes me a little speechless. It’s a real thing of beauty, truly. I can’t brag on this bike enough, the priceless memories, and the value of the surroundings. It’s true, I would have to say this FXRC is one of the best in my collection. It might not be for just any rider, but to me it holds a ton of memories and will continue to make more. If you get a chance, swing by sometime and check it out, and many more in the collection. I’m sure dad and I will be there to shake your hand and invite you in. And, hopefully, you’ll be on your own bike too...out making some amazing memories of your own. Here’s to another 239,000 miles of memories on my 1985 H-D FXRC!

WHAT’S YOUR BACKUP? G
By Mike Noirot
OOD DAY fellow bikers! Two weeks ago, it was sweltering in the Nashville area. This weekend the thermometer dropped so quickly that one might believe it was winter – not fall. I was not disappointed as the cold snap gave me the opportunity to try my new Classic I leather jacket, from Fox Creek Leather! One look at this jacket and you can tell it is truly a retro classic, superbly made, and at 9 ½ pounds, it kept me very warm during a 750-mile guy’s weekend. Now you may be wondering why I am telling you about a leather jacket in a column about guns? Because their leather jackets have a built-in pocket designed specifically for carrying a small to medium sized pistol. Perhaps…a backup to your everyday carry (EDC) - which is incidentally the topic of this month’s Bullet Points. If you are due for a new jacket this fall, check out the Fox Creek Leather jackets before making your purchase. They are made in North Carolina with premium American leather and the highest quality zippers and hardware. But I digress. If you are a Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) holder, as I am, you take the protection of yourself, and others close to you, seriously. It is obviously a huge responsibility to do so. You have practiced, you maintain your carry guns and you have accepted the fact that you may need to take the life of someone intent on causing you extreme harm – or even death. But have you given much thought to a backup weapon? And my use of weapon does not necessarily imply some type of firearm – although it could. A back up weapon could be a collapsible baton, pocket knife, pepper spray or a pistol. Typically, a backup pistol is compact, although I have known some who carry two full sized pistols. My backup is more often than not a SIG Sauer P938. It holds seven rounds (with the extended magazine) plus one in the pipe – eight total. I like this pistol because it is chambered in 9mm, instead of .380 ACP, is compact and easily concealed. There are dozens of concealable pistols and revolvers which could work for you, so it is important that you have one which fits you comfortably, you are confident shooting and is as reliable as your primary gun. While most people who carry a concealed handgun use either an inside the waistband (IWB) or an outside the waistband (OWB) holster, your backup will need to be carried somewhere besides your waist. There are a lot of options for concealing your backup. The most common types of backup holsters are pocket, ankle or a waistband. Each holster has its benefits and drawbacks.
November 2018
POCKET HOLSTER I prefer the pocket holster because it is easy to conceal with my SIG Sauer P938. But it can be difficult to draw a pistol out of a pocket holster as it tends to snag on the inside seam of your pockets. If you decide to use a pocket holster, you will need to safely practice drawing from it in any pants you plan to carry it in. ANKLE HOLSTER The ankle holster is a very viable option for carrying your backup pistol. It stays concealed above your footwear, and unless your pants are boot cut, your weapon will not print. For most average adults (unless you are a gymnast), the biggest drawback to the ankle holster is that you have to kneel to draw your handgun. Not to mention that an ankle holster will not work with shorts! BELLY HOLSTER For deep concealment there is no better option than strapping a belly holster around your torso. They tend to be comfortable to wear, although they can be quite warm during the summer months. You can position your pistol against your back or your torso. It’s great that a belly holster provides deep concealment, but that is also the biggest drawback – deep concealment means that your handgun is in a place where it is hard to get to. If you are wearing a buttondown shirt, you may need to rip the buttons off to get to your weapon. T-shirts and golf shirts are your best bet – as long as they are loose fitting. Whatever choice you make for carrying your backup, make sure to safely practice with it. Drawing from a deep concealment position is not as easy as drawing from a belt holster. While I do not carry a backup pistol regularly, I always have a backup in the form of a knife. My favorite type of knife is a karabit, mine being made by Emerson Knives. A karabit allows you to quickly immobilize an attacker’s arm and get some distance away from them – or defensively attack them. (Keep an eye out for more on knives in a future Bullet Points article) Until next month, keep the shiny side up and enjoy the cooler weather. Molon Labe, Mike Noirot Note: Pictures of different backup holsters are in no way an endorsement of a particular brand.

ike SPEED? Like TIGHT TURNS? Like DANGER? If you answered YES, then you should have been at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 5-7th. The Red Bull Air Race returned to Indy and with it, a piece of history. Massachusetts native Michael Goulian soared to a Master Class win, as the first American to win a Red Bull Air Race in his home country, since Kirby Chambliss a decade ago. This was Goulian’s second win of the season, with his first being in Abu Dhabi. This Indy race covers a portion of the race track, with hairpin turns through pylons, all the while having speeds of 250 miles per hour, 50 feet above the ground, in a tiny airplane. If you need your motorcycle fix, Red Bull Athlete, Aaron Coulter, performed motorcycle freestyle stunts and Geoff Aaron, 10 times AMA National Trials Champion showed off his moto trials skills. The other side acts included an aerobatic helicopter, paraglider, skydiver, BMX’ers, and tricker (acrobatics). Kaskade headlined the Saturday night concert. Goulian qualified poorly, but rallied to the top when previous points leader, Martin Sonka, of the Czech Republic was eliminated by American Kirby Chambliss and Australian Matt Hall hit a pylon. Goulian heads to the final race of the season, at Ft. Worth’s Texas Motor Speedway, November 17-18, with 70 points, Sonka 65, and Hall 63, meaning the championship will be decided in the final round. Pete McLoud, of Canada, finished second and Nicolas Ivanoff, of France, came in third. This season’s previous races were held in: Abu Dhabi, UAE; Cannes, France; Chiba, Japan; Budapest, Hungary; Kazan, Russia; Wr. Neustadt, Austria. Florian Berger won the Challenger Class (think Xfinity in NASCAR) at Indy and is the current points leader. The racers qualified on Saturday and then flew heat races against another plane on Sunday, to eliminate from 14 down to the Fast Eight Round, and then the Final Four, with the fastest in the Final Four declared the winner. In 2019, Red Bull returns to Indy on October 6-7th, where the best pilots in the world push their limits. If you can’t make it in person, be sure to check your TV listings for time and channel. And don’t forget to tune in for the Ft. Worth race. Ride Safe and Have Fun!!

FALL MOTORCYCLE RIDING DESTINATIONS By Indian Rider Bill
PART 3
The following is the last in a three-part series showcasing Fall Motorcycle Riding Destinations All kinds of good motorcycle touring possibilities exist in Tennessee. Tennessee is home to a remarkable array of scenery specializing in lush forests, abundant bodies of water, and breathtaking mountains, resulting in some truly great motorcycle rides. The Volunteer State also offers lively cities and towns with rich histories and colorful amenities that draw visitors year round ... places like Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, as well as access to the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some areas need little introduction, but for the next 3 months we will highlight a few spots to give you a feel for what to expect, and to further investigate.
THE PEACEFUL SIDE OF THE SMOKIES - TOWNSEND, TN
After cresting out on The Foothill’s Parkway and sweeping down to State Road 321, I instinctively turn right and ride down to Townsend. The Gateway to The Smokies. I’ve taken this route many times, but this is the best time of year, for me anyway, to visit again. Almost immediately the cool rushing waters of The Little Pigeon River appear on the left as the road winds into the hills. After a few twists and turns under brilliant red Maples, the road opens up to the idyllic valley of Townsend. Townsend was once part of the vast Cherokee nation with its inhabitants establishing villages in Tuckaleechee Cove. Now, with the hub of the Eastern Cherokee peoples in Cherokee, NC, the remnants of the pioneer frontier dot the landscape. Cantilever Barns, old homesteads, and Appalachian mountain living welcome visitors to the Peaceful Side of The Smokies. My first stop, always, is at Apple Valley Mountain Village. It’s a great stop to stretch my legs, get a coffee at The Dancing Bean Coffee House, and a bite at the Village Café, where, by the way, the staff and service set the standard for mountain hospitality. But this stop offers much more. There’s the General Store where the selection of jams, jellies, fudge, ice cream, candy, bread, muffin and pancake mixes are endless and the array of handcrafted mountain souvenirs is as equally impressive. Hope you have plenty of room in your saddle bags, or trunk! The adjacent Mountain Store is THE STOP for hiking, backpacking and camping “gotta-haves”. And the grounds are festively decorated with pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, corn stalks, scarecrows, and beautiful stuffed figures. Not only can you see Fall, you can feel it! Go to: applevalleystores.com for more. Back on the road I take a right and ride further into the valley. The wide, uncongested roads are a motorcyclists dream; great vistas, no stop signs and a single red light. And just about every pull off to a shop or restaurant offers plenty of paved parking. In Town Proper, you’ll find numerous cafes, pizza parlors, grill pubs, the historic Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, top notch fly fishing shops, art studios, a single grocery store, river rafting and tubing, motorcycle rentals, Mountain Dulcimer shops, and plenty of Appalachian antiques. Again, I hope you have room in your saddlebags or trunk!
Townsend is also home to the “Greatest Sight Under the Smokies”. The 30 million year old Tuckaleechee Caverns. With over a mile of caverns, the caverns also have the Nations tallest subterranean waterfall in the Eastern U.S. At over 200 feet tall the waterfall cascades over its rock bluff and empties into local aquifers. At the only red light in town, I proceed straight towards Cades Cove. The preferred route is left on 321, but I’m not interested in the bumper to bumper traffic that Wears Valley can create at this time of year. Instead the road continues to meander past quaint motels, cafes and campgrounds that are very, very biker friendly. One of my new favorites is the Little Arrow Outdoor Resort. As you can imagine it has accommodations for RV’s, offers tent camping, Tiny Homes, Cabins, mountain top homes and the coolest thing yet, “Glamping”. Glamping is a combo of glamorous tent camping. These units are luxury camping tents with all the amenities. Perfect for those who want to say they’ve tent camped in the winter. Go to Camplittlearrow.com for more. Shortly after passing Little Arrow, the road enters the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and forks at the Wye. To the left, along the Little Pigeon River to Gatlinburg and Cherokee. To the right, Cades Cove. On quite display are the original pioneer homesteads that stand as a testament to the rugged individualism necessary to survive and thrive in the Smoky Mountains. It’s common to see Black Bear and Whitetail Deer and foraging in the meadows readying themselves for the winter. For those interested in slowing down, enjoying the brilliant display of rolling mountain colors, Fall festivals, lodging in some of the best mountainside hotels, lodges, cabins and campgrounds, why go elsewhere? Ride, dine, shop, eat and stay in Townsend. For more info go to: EXPLORETOWNSEND.COM

2ND ANNUAL TENNESSEE MOTORCYCLES AND MUSIC REVIVAL
By Scott High What a difference a year makes. Last year the Tennessee Motorcycle and Music Revival was great, the music lineup, the vendors, and what can we say about the venue, the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch is a great place for the motorcycle and music revival, it is one of the largest campgrounds in the state with lots of great riding in the area, there is a store on the ranch and another across the street and it’s not far from the town of Waverly if you need anything else. Fast forward to this year and the 4 day 2018 Tennessee Motorcycle and Music Revival was even better. The crowd probably tripled, the music was even better in our opinion and there were even more vendors. Bill Dodge invited some of the top builders in the nation to display their best work at the BC Moto Invitational, Thunder Roads Tennessee and Bikers Who Care sponsored a free entry ride in bike show with about 30 bikes vying for the trophies, and ABATE held a bike rodeo. There were mini bike and drift trike races, flat track races, and Royal Range USA even had an area where you could rent and shoot fully automatic weapons including a vehicle mounted minigun or if you really needed a kick, a .50 BMG rifle. Both Harley-Davidson and Indian had their demo trucks at the ranch and offered demo rides all 4 days. If you want music TMMR has more than anyone, with at least 4 music venues you could hear live music at one of them anytime from noon until 3am. They had Headliners Yelawolf, Tim Montana, and Whiskey Myers but you could also catch the Loretta Lynn Family, our pals Stone Senate, The Steel Woods, Sister Antics, Jared Blake, True Villans, Blackfoot Gypsies and

many more on the main stage. There were acoustic shows, and songwriter rounds, really something for everyone, Sunday there was even a charity ride to the ranch from many locations to support The USO. The promotors are already busy planning for next year so keep an eye on their Facebook page and website for details, but you better start making plans now to attend, we think this rally is just going to get bigger and better every year!

DODGING THE ROADKILL
BIKERS, BROTHERS AND VETERANS
By: Hank Bonecutter
I
’VE BEEN around the military my entire life. As a boy, I spent my youth in Europe as my military family traveled the world. I’ve had a deep rooted respect for the soldier and his family my entire life. While I was never able to serve, my love and respect for those who have sacrificed so much for me is passionate. I live in a military community, the home to the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles at Fort Campbell Kentucky. I’m surrounded by the greatest group of soldiers in the world. I can’t turn my head and not meet a soldier or a member of his or her family. On a day we celebrate the sacrifices of those who serve and have served, I’m honored that through my motorcycle, I’ve been brought together with the veteran. It seems that motorcycles and veterans go hand in hand. If I were to line up a dozen bikers, I promise you, more than half of them would be military men or women. It’s a real blessing that through the brotherhood of bikers, I’m also the brother to a veteran. I’ve made so many new friends over the past three years who have served, and have the scars to prove it. Yet THEIR journey on a motorcycle criss-crosses with mine. It’s been a tumultuous year in America for disrespecting our flag, our anthem, and our military. I don’t care what the excuse is, and I don’t care how these people “spin” it, it’s pure unadulterated DISRESPECT that we’ve seen directed towards those who have made

this country great. But when you straddle your bike, all the problems of the world just go away. I don’t know what it’s like to be away from your family for months at a time. I don’t know what it’s like to face death every single day. I don’t know what it’s like to come home a different person than when you left. That’s why I honor and respect you who have served! I stand for the National Anthem. I place my hand over my heart. I thank you for your service. It’s because of YOU that I’ve had a wonderful life. In a land that is free. In a country that is great. Defended from our enemies. And while we certainly have our warts and bruises, this is America, and we know who makes it great. It’s the Veteran. Together we ride! Bikers, Brothers, and Veterans. God Bless You!

ORANGE & PEAR GLAZED TURKEY BREAST
BAKED CABBAGE STEAKS w/ CRISPY BACON
1 Extra Large Turkey Breast; unfrozen & skin on 1 Stick of Unsalted Butter; softened 1 Large Can of Whole Pears; juice divided Herb Mix: In a small bowl, add a palmful of: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Basil & Orange Peel Seasoning; (in the spice aisle of any grocery) Preheat oven to 350. Take your turkey breast out of fridge and let it come to room temp. for about half hour prior to cooking. Pat your turkey breast down with paper towels to get good & dry. Next, rub it all over with soft butter. Cover that bird up good. Then, take your bowlful of herb mix and rub it all over the meat, both sides, really good. Layer a larger casserole or broker pan with thick-grade aluminum foil for easy clean up and to catch all your juices. Place your chicken breast in dish; surround it with whole pears and make a foil tent to keep it covrered from burning. Cook for 45 minutes, basting with melted butter and juice from can of pears every 15 minutes. Halfway thru cooking, shake a good palmful of Orange Peel seasoning (or you could actually grate real orange peel) all over the turkey breast. The last 15 minutes of cooking, remove the tent and let it go until the bird is golden brown and crispy skin. Remove from oven, keep tent over it, but not tightly. Let the meat rest about 15 minutes. Take all that luscious juice in the bottom of the cooking dish, add 1 jar of turkey gravy to it, with a big pat of butter and salt & pepper and serve along your beautiful sliced turkey breast, that will be moist, tender and taste incredible with that crispy skin. Oooeee, that’s good!
1 X-Large Head of Cabbage; cut off the ends and remove outer leaves till you get to solid, pale green tight-leaf wrapped portion. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Line a baking pan with aluminum foil Cut 1-1/2 inch thick cabbage steaks Melt a stick of butter and grab a basting brush or a small, clean paint brush. Gently brush both sides of the cabbage steak with butter and then in a small bowl mix up equal amounts of salt, cracked black pepper and garlic powder. Sprinkle evenly on each cabbage steak and on each side. Bake 40 minutes so that edges start to turn golden brown. For a real treat, sprinkle each one generously w/ fried bacon bits 5 minutes before removing from oven or after you remove from oven if you want bacon crisp. Serve piping hot. I like mine drizzled w/ warmed Ranch dressing. Soooo simple & good!
BUTTERY, ANY FLAVORED MASHED TATERS
SUPER E-Z WARM CHERRY POUND CAKE
I’m just going to tell you straight up that while I’ve peeled my share of potatoes and then some when I was Mom’s little helper, there are SO many pre-made flavors; Basil & Rosemary, French Bleu’ Cheese, Roasted Garlic, Sun Dried Tomato. Just add real butter, salt & pepper to taste & a large palmful of Parsley flakes. They are the real thing, just flash frozen after prep. Keep it simple, baby.
1 Can of Cherry Pie Filling 1 Pre-made Pound Cake from Dessert Section Pour pie filling into a bowl and micro until very hot Place Pound Cake on a plate and take the end of a wooden spoon and poke holes all over the top. Pour the hot cherry juice down in the holes but also, along with cherries, all over the top of cake. Serve w/ vanilla ice-cream on top. Oh my, Suga’!

APPLE CIDER MIMOSAS On a small plate mix a 1/4 cup of sugar w/ a 1/4 cup of cinnamon. On another small plate pour some apple cider onto plate. Take champagne flute and gently dip rim in apple cider, then dip into the sugar & cinnamon mixture. Do all the glasses you’re serving this way. Fill each glass 1/4 full w/ Apple Cider and the rest of the way up (but not touching the spiced rim) w/ quality Champagne, Ballatore or Asti Spumante. Now this is Fall in a glass. Cheers!

PRESIDENT TRUMP AUTHORIZES EPA TO MAKE E-15 FUEL AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND President Donald Trump has given the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to lift current restrictions on E-15 gas (containing 15% ethanol) to allow year-round sales of the higher ethanol blend. Following the federal rulemaking process and public comment period, the expanded sales are expected to begin during the summer of 2019.
Europe has had ABS laws since 2016, and India’s obligatory braking system regulations came into effect earlier this year. Taiwan and China are expected to follow in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Here in the U.S., the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has made recommendations to the federal government to enforce the same measures, while countries like Australia and Brazil are also considering similar regulations.
In 1978, a Clean Air Act waiver allowed the use of 10 volume percent ethanol in gasoline (E-10), and today almost all fuels are E-10 blends. In June 2011, EPA approved a partial waiver for blends of 15 vol% ethanol in gasoline for use in model year 2001 and newer passenger cars, light-trucks and medium-duty vehicles. However, the EPA does not approve the use of E-15 in small engines such as motorcycles or ATVs, and its use can damage vehicles and void manufacturer warranties. Currently, gasoline retailers throughout most of the country are prohibited from offering E-15 during the summer months. The President’s directive to the EPA is to change that. CHP TO ADDRESS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY WITH FEDERAL FUNDS The California Highway Patrol is using a federal grant to promote motorcycle safety throughout the state, with the goal of reducing the most dangerous traffic violations which they say are speeding, improper turning, and driving under the influence of alcohol and/ or drugs. There are more than 1.4 million people with a motorcycle license in the state. The education campaign is called GEARS, or Get Educated And Ride Safe. The year-long campaign will include the CHP deploying officers on enhanced motorcycle safety enforcement operations in regions with a high number of motorcycle incidents. There will be a series of motorcycle traffic safety education campaigns, including the May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Officers plan to stress the use of properly approved helmets for all riders and raise motorists' awareness of sharing the road with motorcyclists. According to provisional data from 2017, the number of motorcycle accident victims shows a 6% decrease compared to the previous year. ABS IS NOW MANDATORY FOR NEW BIKES IN JAPAN In an effort to reduce the number of traffic-related motorcycle accidents and fatalities, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) made amendments to the country’s safety standards for road transport back in January, 2015, including the requirement for all new motorcycles, 125cc or larger, to be equipped with standard Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) effective on October 1, 2018. Additionally, newly launched two-wheelers from 125cc and below must come with either ABS or CBS (Combined Braking System, which allows simultaneous front and rear brake application with 28
Dirt bikes specifically designated for off-road use and competition are exempted from the law.
As more countries get on board, vendors around the world have reportedly been bracing themselves for possible slowdowns in motorcycle sales due to higher manufacturing costs. PHILIPPINE POLICE SEIZE MODIFIED MOTORCYCLES & ACCESSORIES The past few months have been very busy for law enforcement officers in the Philippines, where police have apprehended traffic violators, cited smoke belching vehicles, and impounded erring motorcycle riders’ property. Among those apprehended were motorcycles fitted with certain modifications, which have been serving as a bone of contention for both riders and enforcers, according to MotoPinas.com. Among those accessories confiscated were auxiliary LED lighting systems, aftermarket mufflers, aftermarket side mirrors, and upgraded brakes which aren’t compliant with Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) guidelines. The Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO-Philippines) suggests that when apprehended for fitting illegal accessories, refuse the order to remove your accessories and insist the apprehending officer remove the accessories from your motorcycle “because as far as the LTO (Land Transportation Office) is concerned, you are within set regulations,” adding “Do not argue with the apprehending officers. There is always a proper/lawful venue for contesting the apprehension.” DRIVER FOUND GUILTY OF HOMICIDE IN RACER NICKY HAYDEN’S FATAL CRASH On May 17, 2017, a speeding driver struck renowned MotoGP motorcycle racer Nicky Hayden as he was riding a bicycle in Italy, tragically passing away from his injuries five days later. Nearly a year and a half later, we have learned that the driver was charged with murder. The unidentified 31-year-old driver at the wheel of a Peugeot 206 was reportedly driving at roughly 43 miles per hour (70 kph) in a 30 zone. Although Hayden was zipping down a crossing street and ran through the intersection, the judge in charge of the ruling considers had the driver respected the speed limit, he would have had time to react to Hayden’s presence. The driver has been found guilty of “road homicide” and sentenced to a year in prison. His license has also been revoked and he will be expected to pay all the court fees. The driver’s attorney has said they will appeal the ruling. The driver is not only facing a criminal sentence but also a civil lawsuit, as Hayden’s family is suing the driver for $6 Million, the

maximum covered by the Italian insurance policy. Nicknamed “The Kentucky Kid”, 35-year-old Nicky Hayden began his career in MotoGP in 2003 with Repsol Honda and went on to win the MotoGP championship in 2006. He also competed in American dirt track racing, winning a few Grand National events. Hayden continued racing in MotoGP through 2015, competing for Ducati Team (2009-2013) and Aspar Honda (2014-2015). Hayden made the jump to the World Superbike Championship for the 2016 season, becoming the sole American in the series until his untimely death last May. MOTORCYCLE RACING INCIDENT MAY END UP IN COURT Moto2 rider Romano Fenati was disqualified after he astonishingly grabbed the brake of rival motorcycle racer Stefano Manzi at high speed during a mid-September race in Misano, Italy, and has since been banned for two races, the FIM racing authority suspended his license, and his team contract has been cancelled. But now the fallout from the disgraced racer’s brake-grabbing incident continues, with Italian news agency ANSA reporting he could now face a charge of “private violence.” The Public Prosecutor of Rimini (in Italy) is said to have opened the investigation for the less serious charge, rather than that of “attempted murder.” “Private violence” is akin to a motorist cutting off another driver on the road. However, the use of such a charge for competitors in a motor race would set a very worrying precedent. Fenati pulled Manzi's front brake after the pair had clashed repeatedly during their home race, and although extremely dangerous, both riders remained upright. TRADE DEAL NETS CHEAPER MOTORCYCLES FOR EU, BUT BREXIT RULES OUT BRITS A trade agreement between Japan and the European Union could spell disaster for British bike buyers, as the British Motorcyclists Federations (BMF) reports that the deal removes common EU external customs tariffs from Japanese manufacturers’ imports. Under the EU-Japan Economic Partnership signed earlier this year, the 6% tariff affecting motorcycles will be abolished over the next five years -- meaning cheaper bikes for EU buyers. November 2018
European consumers will also benefit from common standards of type approval on product safety as well as emissions. However, this free trade deal is unlikely to apply to the UK due to Brexit, with that country’s exit from the EU. EU-based manufacturers will also enjoy more competitive access to the Japanese market, while those in the UK will continue to face tariff constraints. But Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe did recently state that Japan would welcome Britain with “open arms” to the 11 country Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), though the timeframe is not likely to be soon. So while EU riders look to benefit from less expensive bikes and Japanese-standard type approval, Brits are still in the dark as to what this means… DUMB NEWS: YOUTUBE POSTING GETS MAN 1-YEAR MOTORCYCLE BAN A motorcycle rider who ran from police at speeds up to 143 mph was caught when his own helmet cam video posting was spotted on YouTube. The rider had fled from a St. Charles, ILL officer who spotting him making an illegal turn and riding a bike without a registration plate, according to a report in the Daily Herald. The incident was included in a compilation video of motorcycles running from police that was posted to the FailsandFlights YouTube account, and shows the elusive motorcyclist waiting at a red light, turn his head toward the officer who is signaling for him to shut the motorcycle off, but instead pulls away through several stopped cars, runs the light and accelerates down the road. At one point, the video displayed a link to the film star’s personal YouTube page, which investigators used, along with his other social media channels, to track him down and make an arrest. He was charged with several felonies, but agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving and will perform 100 hours of community service and cannot own or ride a motorcycle for one year. Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: As I continue to work for our government to account for the 83,000 service members listed as missing in action since World War II I am continuously asked if there are still American service members who were taken Prisoner of War (POW) who are still alive. Let me assure you there are still live Americans being held against their will by countries we have been at war with in the past. Did you know that from 1954 to 1976, after France paid Vietnam an unspecified amount of money to” maintain French Cemeteries” that the Communists released 1000 to 1500 Legionnaires—alive—sending them home in small groups at irregular times over a 22 year period. In April 1973, Laotian Communist forces declared they were holding more than 100 American POWs. Nine days later the U.S. Government responded by declaring all POWs Dead without even talking to the Laotians! On 25 June 1981, DIA Director Eugene Tighe testified before the House Sub-committee on Asian/Pacific Affairs that live American POWs remain in Southeast Asia. 7 December 1984, the Washington Times reported that POW Bobby Garwood, released by Vietnam in 1979, saw up to 70 live captive Americans long after the Vietnam War ended. 28 June 1985, Washington Times reported DIA Director testified Hanoi is still holding 50 to 60 live American POWs. 15 October 1985, The Wall Street Journal reported that National Security Advisor Robert McFarlane says live American POWs remain in S.E. Asia. 19 August 1986, the Wall Street Journal reported the White House knew in 1981 Vietnam wanted to sell 57 live POWs for $4 billion and ignored it. 30 September 1986, the New York Times reported a Pentagon panel estimates up to 100 live American POWs are held in Vietnam alone. 7 October 1986, CIA Director William Casey said: “Look, the nation knows they (the POWs) are there—everybody knows they are there but there’s no groundswell of support for getting them out. Certainly you are not suggesting we pay for them, surely not saying we could do anything like that with no public support,”
30
January 1988, a cable from the Joint Casualty Resolution Center in Thailand stated that during General Vessey’s visit to Hanoi, “The Vietnamese people were prepared to turn over 7 or 8 live American POWs if Vessey told them what they wanted to hear. The prospective returnees were allegedly held in a location on the Lao side of the border.” From then until today there continue to be live sighting reports, evidence of American POWs still being held captive, government investigations and a dismal failure by our government to take any steps to bring back a single live prisoner of war. Our government abandoned about 23,000 American POWs that Russia kept at the end of WWII as insurance the allies would not invade Russia after the fall of Germany. They never came home. North Korea kept about 8,000 American POWs after the cease fire was agreed to in 1954. They have never come home. There are live sightings of American POWs that continue to come out of North Korea from foreign workers and defectors who escape to freedom. There are rumors that as many as 300 prisoners from the Vietnam War were transferred to North Korea in the mid 1990’s to allow John McCain and John Kerry to establish economic relations with Vietnam. CIA Director William Casey in his 1986 moment of honesty truly stated our governments unspoken policy towards American service members held captive by foreign governments. Without a groundswell of public support the government won’t lift a finger to bring back a live POW. This is the result of a purposelydumbed down population and a government made up of professional politicians who are only interested in getting re-elected and holding on to power. It’s not just those who put their lives on the line to defend our nation and freedoms who suffer, it is all of us. Our nation was founded on liberty, justice and freedom based on the public holding power over government. Today our government holds power over us and it’s getting worse. We need a change. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. — Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. ONTRASTED WITH other auto races, the “bucket list” Indy 500 is a 12 day event, ending on the Sunday before Memorial Day--a celebration of the open wheel race car. There are concerts, a parade, an Indy Lights Race, practice, qualifying, the famous Carb Day, antique racer display, must see IMS museum and track parade, all capped off by the Indy 500 itself. The dedication to the military and veterans is always present with all branches represented in track ride-ons during the opening ceremony, a swearing in ceremony and a flyover by a B-2 Stealth Bomber. Thankfully for us, there is a two day rest in the middle, when we were able to enjoy the River Walk and Canal Walk in downtown Indy. Our favorite local restaurants are Working Man’s Friend (lunch only), Mugs and Buns (best root beer), and Steer Inn (try the local favorite (pork tenderloin). Another must do is a tour of Dallara, on Main Street in Speedway, IN, where all of the rolling chassis for the IndyCars are built. Although we have good seats, we ignored them and spent our time where the action is, Turn 2. Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) embraces motorcycles, with free parking. Practice and qualifying are times to see the drivers averaging speeds of 230 mph. During practice James Davison demolished his car, but the crews had it ready for qualifying the next day. Pippa Mann, a perennial female contestant, as well as one of the favorites, James Hinchcliffe, who missed the qualifying window, were among those who failed to make the 33 qualifiers. After qualifying, the top 9 qualifiers compete in the Race For the Pole. Ed Carpenter, as pole winner, picked up a check for $100,000 and a trophy. The Indy Lights drivers are competing to be picked up as an IndyCar driver. These guys can get a little scary as they average 190 mph in their
Mazda powered race cars. Colton Herta picked up the win for Andretti Steinbrenner Racing, with a top average speed of 194 mph. The annual Champion of the series will receive a $1,000,000 scholarship toward the IndyCar series and is guaranteed 3 races in the IndyCar series, including the Indy 500. Easy to see why these races get a little hairy! The Indy Festival Parade is held downtown on the Saturday before the race. It includes marching bands, floats, balloons, Corvettes carrying all of the drivers in qualifying positions, horses, and the Indianapolis Motorcycle Drill Team. Will Power, of Australia, won the feature race in his #12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, beating out pole sitter, Ed Carpenter’s Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet by 3.1 seconds, after 500 miles and 30 lead changes. Power is the first Australian to win the race and the first to win both the Indy 500 and the IMS Road Course in the same year. For his victory, Power picked up checks for a cool $2.5 Million and got his name on the coveted Borg-Warner Trophy. Dancing with the Stars ladies’ heartthrob and 3 time winner, Helio Castroneves crashed his Pennzoil Chevy on lap 147, as did another ladies’ favorite, Danica Patrick, in her final racing event on lap 68. James Davison crashed his hastily rebuilt Chevy, with last year’s winner, Takuma Sato, on lap 49. Ed Jones, Sebastian Bourdais, and 2013 winner, Tony Kanaan, also left the race in crashes. Ya need to participate in this spectacular event! For info on the events and parking, go to inianapolismotorspeedway.com. 2019 tickets are on sale now. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper and Judy.

Two young business men in California were sitting down for a break in their soon-to-be new store in the shopping mall. As yet, the store wasn’t ready, with only a few shelves and display racks set up. One said to the other, “I’ll bet that any minute now some lame-as senior is going to walk by, put his face to the window, and ask what we’re selling.” Sure enough, just a moment later, a curious senior gentleman walked up to the window, looked around intensely and rapped on the glass, then in a loud voice asked, “What are you sellin’ here?” One of the guys yelled sarcastically, “We’re selling ass-holes.” Without missing a single beat, the old timer said, “Sales are good. Only two left.” --------------------------------------------------------------A man was leaving a convenience store when he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby cemetery. A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about 50 feet behind the first one. Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short distance back, were about 200 men walking in single file. The man watching couldn’t stand the curiosity. He respectfully approached the man walking the dog and said... “I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you, but I’ve never seen a funeral like this. Whose funeral is it?” “My wife’s.” ‘’What happened to her?” “She yelled at me and my dog attacked and killed her.” He inquired further, “But who is in the second hearse?” “My mother-in-law. She came to help my wife and the dog turned on her and killed her also.” It was a very poignant and touching moment of brotherhood. Silence passed between the two men. The man then asked... “Can I borrow the dog?” The man walking the dog replied, “Get in line.” --------------------------------------------------------------A 12 year old is upstairs walking down the hall to the kitchen when he hears a woman’s scream over and over coming from his parent’s bedroom. He opens the door and sees his parents only with their heads at the bottom of the bed, his Dad on top. His Dad in the throes of passion looks up and sees him, but his only reaction is a big-ass grin and a thumbs up. About a week passes and the Dad is in the kitchen getting a late night snack when he hears all this moaning from the downstairs bedroom. He quietly opens the door to see his son really going hard on Grandma. The son looks up, stares straight into his Dad’s eyes with a big ole’ grin, a thumbs up, and says , “It’s not so damn funny when it’s your Mom is it?”.
