ell, the Halloween costumes have been put away, the trick-or-treat candy has all been eaten (what, is that just me?), and stores have started swapping out autumn wreaths for tree decorations and snowflake-printed throw pillows. We’re preparing to transition to the end of Daylight Saving Time — hooray for an extra hour of sleep on Nov. 4! — and in many parts of the country, people have already started breaking out the hats and mittens. But if there’s one thing that really drives home the fact that winter is upon us, it’s the feeling of leaving out as early as 5 p.m. to find that the sun has already set. The hustle and bustle of the holidays will soon be upon us! Are you ready!? I’m not, but I do enjoy spending time with family, sitting around the dining room table at Thanksgiving, listening to stories, talking, and laughing, and lets not forgot the amazing food that for some reason we only cook during the holidays, but it’s oh so good! Thanksgiving is an interesting holiday; every year it seems to be losing that original intent to celebrate being with family and friends. Much like Christmas it is commercialized and marginalized into a shopping extravaganza instead of spending time with loved ones that you don’t see often enough and truly being thankful for what we have in life. Too often we only think about what we don’t have. So in honor of Thanksgiving we want to talk about the things we are thankful for having instead of wanting. I am thankful for my husband who’s hard working, kind, and a good listener, I am so lucky to be able to face the joys and obstacles of life with someone I love so much. I am thankful for my children who have enriched my life in ways too numerous to list, and for just being awesome! I am thankful for my grandchildren who are truly a blessing from God and I am thankful each and every day for the two of them. I am thankful for my family and that I still have my parents. I am thankful for everyone who reads what we write, without you we have no voice. We are thankful for Thunder Roads® Magazine of TN/ KY and the people who work with us, for the team members that keep everything going as smoothly as possible. The great thing about writing down what you are thankful for is you can see how many things are good in your life. There is so much more we thankful for. We are thankful to all military members and their families for what they do to protect our freedom every day. No amount of appreciation will be sufficient enough to honor them. Let us just pray for them and their families. And a heartfelt Veterans Day salute of thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country while protecting the freedoms of our great nation. “THE SPIRITUAL & THE NATURAL” 1 Cor.2: 14 “The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” The spiritual things defy human logic to the natural man. The natural man depends on his five senses that triggers his emotions. John 14: 1-11 “Let not your heart be troubled… I go to prepare a place for you…and if I go to prepare a place for you… Three places Jesus mention “I go.” Then He said and where I go ye know, and the way ye know,” doubting Thomas replied; “Lord, we know not where thou go and we don’t know the way?” When we contradict Jesus, it’s because we only know Him in the flesh, the natural and not in the spiritual. Vs. 6 Jesus said to Thomas; “I am the way, the truth, and the life!” Vs.7 “If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also” Vs. 8 “Philip said to Jesus, Lord Show us the Father, and it will suffice us.” Vs. 9 “Jesus said to Philp; have I been so long with you, yet thou has not known me” First Thomas entered into doubt & unbelief in contradicting Jesus, now Philip does the same thing. The disciples only knew Jesus in the natural, they became too familiar with Him. They were with Him twenty-four hours a day for over three years. Jesus was God in the flesh, they didn’t bathe every day, and they didn’t change their clothes every day. Even though the disciple saw Jesus perform all those miracles, they still related to Him in the flesh, in the natural. Thomas contradicting Jesus with “we don’t know where you’re going, we don’t know how to get there?” Philp contradicting Jesus with “show us the father, it will suffice us.” We Christians today have made the same mistake, we have seen the miracles of Christ move in our lives and yet we will contradict the Lord with our lifestyles. Jesus said, “if you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” But we still look at Jesus in the flesh, the natural. Jesus was referring to His heart condition is exactly like the Fathers. Some of are going to be surprised when we do see Jesus, He will look nothing at all like the paintings we have seen of Him. In Isa.53:2 …”there is no beauty that we should desire Him.” After the resurrection that the disciples were walking and Jesus showed up to walk with them, and they didn’t recognize him, November 2019

Luke 24:16 “But their eyes were holden that they should not know Him.” John 20:14 ... “Mary stood at the sepulcher…and knew not that it was Jesus.” John 20:19 …” the doors were shut…and Jesus appeared in the mist.” John 21:4 …” Jesus stood on the shore; but the disciples knew Him not.” We all know Jesus in the natural, but do we know Him in the spiritual? When we get to heaven we’ll ask where is the line to see Jesus, and He will say “your standing in it!” Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. Baby: This sweet shy lady is named Baby. She came to us from a shelter in S. Georgia ahead of hurricane Dorian. Her original owner passed away, and she is very frightened by the recent changes in her life. Give her some time, love, and chin scratches, and she will be purring up a storm in no time! Baby came to the shelter with another cat, and might enjoy a feline friend in her new home. Chansey: 6 Year Old American Staffy Mix. This here is Chansey, she is a very sweet girl with great manners. She is awesome on a leash and with all body handling. She would make an excellent family member and best friend for anyone looking for someone a little more on the chill side. She does have heartworms right now, but don’t worry, she is being treated for them and they are not contagious! She can go home any time and join your family! Crutch: 2 Year Old American Staffy. Hello new human friend my name is Crutch! I am a very special boy with very special needs, I UNFORTUNATELY AM DEAF! That doesn’t matter to me though because I’m am always so ecstatic when I get to run with ALL my zoomies, play with my favorite toys and furry friends! I can be a bit of a handful when I’m excited and love to play rowdy so I would love an active lifestyle with parents that can be a big part of my life to show all the cool ins and outs of forever home living! Wont you give me the life I deserve and prove to people just because I can’t hear, doesn’t mean I can’t LOVE! (Older kids only, please) Garrison: 1 Year Old Labrador Retriever/American Staffy. Hey there! My name is Garrison! I came to Mckamey as a stray and am in desperate need of a family to love me. I am a little over a year old, so I can still have lots of fun with you! If what you’re looking for is a cuddle bug, I can be that too! I am gentle with strangers and I passed my behavior assessment with flying colors! That means I was well behaved and friendly with behavior assessors during tests on food aggression, body handling, toys, and being put on a leash. Some of the notes the behavior assessors had about me were that I had a calm temperament and that I LOVE affection. I have been in playgroups with other dogs and they became my friends! I do 6

have heartworms which is not contagious and I’m currently being fully treated by Mckamey Animal Center, so don’t worry! Please come visit me, I promise to love you! Thomas: Sweet Senior is Thomas. He is 10 years old and has been having trouble adjusting to shelter life. The staff here loves him, but he’s really looking forward to a comfy couch all of his own, with a window to watch the birds go by. Do you have room in your home to let this gentle giant live out his golden years? Violet: 1 Year Old American Staffy. Say hello to Violet! She can be shy of new things at first but once she gets a chance to check them out, violet is all fun and games! Violet loves being with people so she would love a home where she can enjoy the company of her family as often as possible! She also loves running around a yard with her furry friends, she just needs a chance to meet them when they’re calm because she can get overwhelmed at first. She is guaranteed to make fast friends with them afterwards though, so if you have a friend for her at home, bring them by so they can say hi! Webby: Is a sweet young boy who has been at McKamey since June and has pretty much grown up at the shelter. Get to know him, you won’t be sorry! Webby is a happy-go-lucky feline who would love to settle into a home of his own. He loves to cuddle and explore his environment. He’s ready to find his forever family where he will be loved and cherished for years to come. Could it be with you? Woody: 2 Year Old Boxer Mix. Got any room for this happy boy back home? Woody would love to get a chance to say hi and show you his awesome personality for himself! Just come ask adoptions to let you meet with him! Woody came to us a nervous pup but he quickly came out of his shell and became this happy and confident dog you see today! Woody is almost as athletic as he is loving so once his Heartworm treatment is done, Woody would love an active life where he can play, explore and spend as much time as possible with the people he loves!

Bullet Points TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT

o you are 21 years old and can legally own a firearm, and you are interested in carrying a pistol of some kind in the state of TN. There are a couple things that are important to know before you make what can be a costly mistake involving a firearm. The first thing that cannot be stressed enough with firearms, is safety! Anytime a firearm is not under your control, it should be locked up. There are several different methods you can use to properly lock a firearm. Your local gun store can give you advice on the best lock or safe for your firearms. The two types of carries in TN are concealed and open carry. Having a concealed weapon on your person is just that, keeping the pistol hidden from plain view. Open carry is having a pistol that is visible and in plain sight. In the state of TN when you get a permit to carry a firearm, it is not necessarily a concealed carry permit. It is a handgun carry permit, so you may carry openly, or concealed. My personal opinion is that having a carry permit should not be taken lightly. If you are stopped by a Law Enforcement Officer and are carrying, as a permit holder you are required to inform the officer that you in fact have a pistol, where it is located, and present your State issued carry permit. Failure to do so can result in severe penalties. There are many laws in place in TN about carrying a firearm in public and it is in your best interest to know them prior to taking on this new adventure of daily carry. You cannot carry if a building has markings on the door prohibiting the carry or possession of a weapon, AKA a gun free zone (schools, theaters, malls, bars, and any establishment marked). It is the prerogative of the establishments whether or not to allow people to carry on their premises, it is your prerogative whether or not you give those businesses your patronage. If you have received formal training with pistols, TN will recognize this training and you can begin the process of obtaining a carry permit. If you do not have formal training, the best thing you can do is

find a reputable firearm store that offers the training required by the State of TN. During training you will need to have proper eye and ear protection as well as you’re chosen pistol, some stores rent handguns to help you decide what you want. The most important thing in any training is to find a reputable establishment. Long-standing gun stores are your best asset in finding an instructor for this important skill. Tennessee Gun Country and Guns and Leather in Middle TN are both excellent examples of stores that have outstanding reputations as well as professional staff and there are many others across the state. Having completed the training required by the state of TN you can then begin the long and hopefully painless process of officially applying for your Carry permit. You will have to take your training certificate to your local DMV, pay your required fee, have your photo taken, and then go to an offsite location for finger printing. The time you receive your permit, or a letter saying you don’t qualify for a permit can vary. You will have a background check by your County Sheriffs Dept., the TN Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Don’t be discouraged by what seems like a daunting task. If you feel strongly enough about your right to carry a firearm, I recommend you do it the right way. It may be a hassle to go through the process to get a concealed carry permit but imagine not having the proper training and having a firearm accident! Keep in mind, TN is not a traditional open carry state! You must have a carry permit to conceal or open carry in the state of TN. Don’t make the mistake of not having your permit, do the right thing and take the class! Know your local Laws and the laws of the places you visit! CONNECTIONS!

It’s easy to write about an event, or to cover a rally or a poker run, but it’s quite another challenge to try and put my feelings into words about this incredible journey I’m on and the connections I make along the way. It hit me the other day as I was thinking about an upcoming trip, that in just the three years I’ve been doing this, I’ve made some amazing connections. Just the new friends, brothers and sisters, and the people I meet on my travels and I quickly realized that I’ve made some incredible connections. The man they call “Chainsaw” who I met at an event in Arkansas last year. He was battling cancer and didn’t have long to live, but here he was, with his brothers, on his bike, where he wanted to be. I’m sure he’s passed away now, but we had a great visit and we had a prayer. I will always remember Chainsaw. CONNECTIONS! The people I met this year when I traveled to the annual Blessing of the Bikes at the Bald Knob Cross of Peace. The volunteers, the Christian Motorcycle Association members and all the bikers who made their way to this amazing cross on a hill. CONNECTIONS! When I decided to blog this journey, I did it for me. I didn’t want this journey to go without leaving something behind for my family. After years of “connecting” with my listeners on the radio, I wanted to document the connections I made as a result of my motorcycle. I’ve made so many friends through this blog, it warms my heart. Your response to my journey has been incredible. I’ve met some of you and there are others I hope I meet. CONNECTIONS! The many times I’ve been traveling and join up with other bikers headed in my direction. No words necessary. Just fall in and throttle up. And when they take their exit, and leave me rumbling 10

The brothers I’ve found who travel with me, who ride with me, who care for me. It’s such a beautiful thing and I can’t wait to connect with others. They want nothing from me but my friendship. Connected by a motorcycle. I met a great couple early in my travels when I traveled to Eminence Missouri. Alan and Lynet Peters. They own the Rivers Edge that sits along Jacks Fork of the Current River. Spectacular place for camping, canoeing, fishing and more. There’s been a flood there since I visited and I want to go back and see how they’ve recovered. There was some beautiful roads to ride and I took full advantage, but most of all, the Peters were some of the nicest people I had ever met. CONNECTIONS! We’re all connected by our motorcycle and the people we meet. When you take the time to remember all of them along the way, you suddenly realize that you’ve had an incredible journey yourself. You pass another biker, flip the respect sign; CONNECTION! You pull into a gas station, other bikers are there, and you have an immediate CONNECTION! At our work or school, we have connections, but on the back of a Harley, those connections are special. Everybody is drawn to a motorcycle, but other bikers are drawn to each other. My blog is filled with those connections and the people who make it happen. Those of you who have reached out to me about my journey are special to me. I love the connection that this blog enables me to have. What connections have you made? Who are the brothers and sisters you’re closest to? Would they do anything for you, and you for them? CONNECTIONS! It’s a beautiful thing. Ride safe my friends.

38TH ANNUAL BWC TOY RUN AND BENEFIT PARTY O ver the September 20-22 weekend, Bikers Who Care held their 38th Annual Leslie W. Watson Memorial Toy Run and Benefit Party, at the Clarksville Motor Speedway. What a party it was! After a kick-off, where over a thousand bikes paraded around Clarksville, the riders rocked to live band music, watched pretty young ladies dance in burlesque costumes and bikinis, drag raced, showed their bikes, showed off their beards and tattoos, and drank FREE BEER. The $35 advance tickets provided admission to all of the events and tent motorcycle camping. All of the profits, as well as other money raised during the year went to charities involving children. BWC is an organization of motorcycle riders who are dedicated to supporting The Dream Factory of Clarksville, fully funding Camp Rainbow (a week-long camp for children with physical deformities or serious health issues), Buddy Ball, Special Olympics, Dawn Stanfill Foundation, Montgomery County Child Advocacy Center, plus a host of other child related charities. These guys hold other events throughout the year

it’s the wild party venue. Of note, Randy Barnes won awards for Best Mustache, Best Partial Beard, Best Freestyle Beard, and Best of Show, only losing to Glen Tubbs for Best Full Beard. After hours the girls of Music City Burlesque showed off their skills and Katwalk Entertainment performed pole dance, fire twirling, and dance routines, followed by the Miss Toy Run Bikini Contest. The contestants sold the shirts off of their backs for upwards of $100 each. I even felt obligated to donate $100 for the shirt worn by a Miss Toy Run contestant named “Cooper”. After strutting their stuff, Daisy was named Miss Toy Run, with Violet as 1st Runner-up, and Tiffany as 2nd Runner-up. They were all winners in my eyes. In the bike show, Bubby Turley won Best of Show and 1st Place Chopper and Greg Gill won People’s Choice and Best Paint, as well as a special In Memory of plaque for Greg. This year’s entries were some of the best they have had. Thunder Roads Magazine TN/KY was proud to be one of the sponsors of this event, as it has been for the past several years. This is one of the premiere biker events in the area and you should not miss it in the future. FALL MOTORCYCLE RIDING GUIDE - PART 3

elcome to our third and final edition of our Fall Ride Guide. We’re finally creeping into cooler temperatures and peak fall foliage colors. While it’s commonplace to talk about the sights along the way-the sleepy farms with grazing livestock, their red barns and rolled hay dotting the fields, nearby hills exploding with color and the brilliant clear skies above, what we smell is almost more enjoyable. The cool scent of a river bottom carrying up the faint wisp of fallen leaves and then the unmistakable aroma of a campfire confirms we’re in the fall season. From Bristol TN to The Dragon and Cherohala Skyway, this swath of the Appalachian Mountain chain has several hundred miles of scenic twisty’s and turny’s as well as some exceptional off road adventure riding , bar none. And this is where I depart from the norm and head to the lesser known region of Reliance/Ocoee TN and the Copper Basin area of NC. This region is easily accessible from Chattanooga, Tellico Plains and Northern Georgia and is most often passed by as riders head to the bigger known and more often crowded roads in and around the Smokey Mountains. I start in Tellico Plains and ease on down TN 315, Tellico Reliance Rd., and make my first stop at the bridge over the Hiwassee River and junction of TN 30. This stop is better known as Webb Bros General Store. Although the store is now closed for the season, there’s plenty of paved parking for a rest stop. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that from this side of the river, go back across the bridge and taking the road to the right, will lead you along the Hiwassee River and up to the Appalachian Power House. Once there take the foot trail to the footbridge that traverses the river. It‘s a gem overlooked by many. Heading south on TN 30, the road snakes its way down to TN 64 and I ease onto the Ocoee Scenic Byway. The byway threads

its way through sheer rock cliffs and along the Ocoee River for miles. The Ocoee River, the site of the 1996 Olympic Canoe and Kayak whitewater competition, is typical of the regions rivers: slow moving pools interrupted by fierce rolling rapids. Heading east, the Ocoee Whitewater Center is worth a stop as you’ll learn about the rivers history and the engineering marvel to transform it into the Olympic venue. Back on the road heading east, it slowly climbs and opens up gently rolling into Ducktown. From here, further east, is Murphy, NC. I choose to head north on TN 68 to get back into towering pines, again taking in their piney-citrusy scent and then onto more open farmland. Rolling along I break off at TN 123 and take a short ride out to Hiwassee/Appalachian Dam. A much smaller dam by construction and water volume it contains, is exactly why I stop; less is more. Note to riders: the Joe Brown Hwy, exiting to the right of the parking area, immediately turns into gravel for 1520 miles. Having been fooled by the “Hwy” notation, I rode in 1st and 2nd gear all the way back to TN 68. I’d recommend not taking the “Hwy”. Leaving the Hiwassee Dam on the paved road, it’s a short ride back over to TN 68, up through Turtletown, Coker Creek, and back into Tellico Plains. All in all this ride is about three hours and affords ample opportunities to stop, see and smell this perfect time of year in this perfect corner of East TN.

f you like Bike Rallies that are old school throw down good time parties, then the West TN Valley Rally is one for you. The small town of Crump, located between Savannah and Adamsville is where you will find Hillbilly’s Wing Shack, Mike and Nina Owen, owners of Hillbilly’s are also the rally promoters. The rally grounds, located about a mile by road behind the wing shack, has plenty of room for camping, whether you camp in a tent or an RV, there are showers on site, food vendors, and other bike related vendors for you to browse and in the evenings there is live music and a cold beverage is never too far away. During the day there is plenty to do too, there are some great riding roads in the area with beautiful scenery like Pickwick Dam and the Tennessee River, and only 5 miles away is the Buford Pusser Home and Museum. If you are a Civil War buff there are several battlefields in the area, The Battle of Shiloh was fought just a few miles to the south and the Battle of Parker’s Crossroads a little further north. If you had rather stay at the rally site there are biker games, a ride in bike show, a corn hole tournament, and a charity poker run. This is a fun rally with an old school feel. It’s the kind of rally you can hang out with friends, or come by yourself and leave with a lot of new friends. If you didn’t make it this year, plan on being there next year. DON’T BE DAZZLED BY THE COLORS

Autumn is one of the best times to ride and experience the splendor of nature. There’s no better way to see the fall foliage than via a motorcycle ride through fields and forests. On a bike, you’re immersed in the ever-changing panorama of foliage colors—unobstructed by a car’s roof and its pillars. Even a convertible places a frame in your line of vision. On a motorcycle, you glide visually unrestricted through the majesty of the trees. Fall foliage season is very symbolic for us riders. It’s a yearly mile marker in our riding season. The swelter of late summer is gone, transformed into the delightful daytime warmth and cool nights of fall. The trees tell us that temperatures are about to fall, as the leaves flutter to the ground. And those fallen leaves look pretty on the ground. Who doesn’t remember the childhood joy of playing or hiding in leaves? Oh, those beautiful leaves are so pretty on the trees and yet so sneaky when on the ground. Slip and fall—but that’s not all Wet leaves on the road can be as slippery as an oil slick. Watch for them, especially in corners. Cornering uses a good measure of your tire’s available traction. Wet leaves can suddenly take away the remaining traction and lead to a fall. Use caution when braking on wet leaves, as well. Wet leaves between a tire under braking loads and the road surface can cause the tire to lose traction and skid. Even with anti-lock brakes, caution is a good strategy. Wet leaves are also a hazard under your boots when stopping or maneuvering in a parking lot. November 2019

Fallen leaves, even when dry, present hazards. They can cover the paint lane markings on the road, concealing the lane size and turn directions. This is particularly dangerous at night when sight distance is shorter. Leaves piled along the side of the road can cover surface hazards like: • Open sewer grates • Curbs • Roadside rain gullies • Debris Piles of fallen leaves can conceal many surface hazards at intersections, including: • Low-profile concrete dividers used for traffic calming • Large, slippery preformed thermoplastic lane direction arrows and crosswalk markers • Oil and antifreeze spills • Broken glass and debris from previous fender benders Also, be sure to never park your motorcycle near piles of dry leaves. Hot exhaust pipes can cause a fire. Motorcycles that have catalytic converters are at an increased risk due to higher temperatures. And, please don’t ride through piles of leaves. DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT

inosaur National Monument is located in Uintah County Utah, near the city of Vernal. It was designated a national monument in 1915 and is comprised of 210,000 acres. This is the only place where you can see and even touch over 1,500 bones from the Jurassic Period, deposited over 149 million years ago. Near the Visitors Center, you can see the Wall of Bones, where the ancient bones remain where the giant reptiles died. Overall, it contains over 800 paleontological sites. In addition, the Monument, if you follow the Tour of Tilted Rocks auto tour, has numerous Native American petroglyphs (chipped into the rocks) and pictographs (painted on the rock. Between 1909 and 1924, paleontologist, Earl Douglas, discovered 10 species of dinosaurs, 20 complete skeletons, and even juvenile dinosaur skeletons. Many of the skeletons are displayed in museums around the world. Even so, what remains at this site gives a close-up view of animals that roamed the earth millions of years ago. The Fremont people recorded themselves, animals around them and even geometric designs, such as lines, circles and spirals, as petroglyphs or pictographs. These people inhabited the monument area from about 200 AD to 1,300 AD. Although it is unknown where the Fremont went or what happened to them, here you can see a lasting record of their lives. The Monument offers camping, hiking and even rafting. Vernal is the starting point for many raft trips through the Grand Canyon. There are no dining or lodging facilities within the Monument. However, the nearby communities have both. Breathtaking picnic areas offer a more scenic option, as do the six campgrounds. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper 26

RPM ACT REINTRODUCED IN THE U.S. SENATE The “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act”, S. 2602, was reintroduced in the 116th Congress on October 18, 2019 by Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) along with 24 original cosponsors. The bipartisan bill clarifies that it is legal under federal law to modify the emissions system of a motor vehicle that is converted for race-use-only, and protects Americans’ right to convert street cars and motorcycles for motorsports competition. “The RPM Act confirms that transforming motor vehicles into race cars used exclusively for competition does not violate the Clean Air Act,” according to the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA), adding; “This American tradition was unquestioned for nearly 50 years until 2015 when the EPA took the position that converted street vehicles that compete on the track must remain emissions-compliant, even though they are not driven on public streets or highways.” The EPA also maintains that the equipment used to transform a street vehicle into a race car is prohibited and is to be addressed in the bill. “American racing runs on traditions,” said Senator Burr. “For more than 50 years, motorsports enthusiasts have purchased cars and modified them to race, off of public roads. However, this tradition was threatened when the Obama EPA attempted to make these modifications illegal. This legislation upholds Congress’ intent of the Clean Air Act and protects motorsports, for professionals and amateurs alike, for years to come.” Motorsports competition involves tens of thousands of participants and vehicle owners each year, both amateur and professional. Retail sales of racing products make up a nearly $2 billion market annually. A majority of the estimated 1,300 race tracks operating across the U.S., including oval, road, dirt and off-road tracks, feature converted race vehicles that the EPA now considers to be illegal. TARIFFS ON EUROPEAN MOTORCYCLES AVOIDED This past summer, representatives from KTM, Indian Motorcycle and the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) testified before the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in Washington, D.C. to oppose the proposed tariffs of up to 100% on motorcycles, parts and accessories arriving from European Union countries. This would have had a devastating effect on motorcycle manufacturers – especially the OEMs from Italy (Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi), Austria (KTM), Germany (BMW) and the United Kingdom (Triumph), among others. 28

Fortunately for the motorcycle industry, on a global scale, these proposed tariffs have been averted, according to the MIC. “Had the tariffs been enacted, that would have meant extremely high prices for our American consumers of European motorcycles, parts, and accessories,” said Erik Pritchard, incoming MIC president and CEO. “Increased costs would have even discouraged motorcycle riders from performing routine but critical maintenance, such as brake pad and tire replacements, due to potential doubling on the price of parts.” FEDERAL LEGISLATION WOULD LIMIT ETHANOL BLENDING IN U.S. FUEL SUPPLY A bipartisan bill has been introduced in Congress that aims to prevent Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) blending obligations from requiring ethanol to make up more than 9.7% of the total volume of gasoline projected to be sold or introduced into commerce in the U.S. for a given calendar year. Introduced by U.S. Representatives Bill Flores (R-TX) and Peter Welch (D-VT) on May 7, H.R. 2540, titled the “Food and Fuel Consumer Protection Act of 2019,” would cap the ethanol mandate and stop the federal government from forcing E15 fuel into the market and ensure continued availability of E10 and ethanol-free gasoline (E0), which is safer to use in motorcycles and smaller-engined vehicles and gas powered equipment. House Resolution 2540 has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. “GREEN ICE INITIATIVE” IN ILLINOIS PROMOTES GRASS-FREE STREETS ABATE of Illinois and Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell have joined together on the “Green Ice Initiative” to keep the streets safer by spreading the word about the dangers of grass clippings on roadways. Dumping grass clippings on the road, they said, not only clogs storm sewers, it presents real dangers to motorcyclists and bicyclists. It is also illegal. Josh Witkowski, the state legislative coordinator for A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois, told KPVI Channel 6 News in Pocatello, IL that the problem is often worse in rural areas, where grass can reach 2 or 3 feet before someone cuts it. The clippings then blow onto the roadway, sometimes 2 inches deep, where it can remain a hazard to riders for days. Witkowski said he was aware of at least two fatalities, one in Kentucky and one in Illinois, where grass on the road was a factor. As with so many other safety issues, Witkowski said it will take both education and law enforcement to create change. Dumping is a violation of the state’s litter law. FEDERAL DATA SHOWS “OUTDOOR RECREATION” IS POWERFUL ECONOMIC DRIVER Motorcycling, ATV riding, and side-by-side driving are among the country’s three largest outdoor recreational activities, when ranked by economic output, says a new federal report. According to newly-released data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the top three conventional outdoor

activities generated $9.1 billion in economic output in 2017. Outdoor recreation accounts for 2.2% of U.S. GDP, creating $778 billion in gross output supporting 5.2 million jobs. And, it’s a growth sector. According to the BEA release, its Outdoor Recreation Satellite Account “shows that inflation-adjusted (real) GDP for the outdoor recreation economy grew by 3.9% in 2017, outpacing the 2.4% growth of the overall U.S. economy. Outdoor recreation is responsible for a larger share of GDP than many major industries, including chemical products manufacturing, farming and ranching, mining, and utilities. The bureau defines “conventional” outdoor recreation as activities done for pleasure, such as camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing, and involving some physical effort. The economic data on the national and, for the first time ever, state levels reinforce what the outdoor recreation industry has long believed: Outdoor recreation is a powerful driver of national and local economies and it is growing faster than the U.S. economy as a whole. This is the second consecutive year that the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, has released formal, national-level data, a notable milestone for the industry now identified as a unique sector of the economy. “Having a rich set of both state and national data on outdoor recreation to draw upon will inform decision-making by businesses, policymakers, and managers of public lands and waters,” notes the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). HARLEY-DAVIDSON TO LAUNCH GROUP-GUIDED CRUISE CONTROL Harley-Davidson has applied for a patent that will enable groups of riders to maintain a constant speed thanks to kinematics and radar-guided cruise control. This new type of adaptive cruise control is specifically aimed at Harley’s current target demographic; groups of riders. November 2019

Adaptive cruise control is nothing new in the world of four-wheeled transportation, but now a major motorcycle manufacturer has stepped in with a system that is claimed to allow a bike to lock on to another bike and keep a set separation distance or separation time from the target bike while offering the rider the chance to pick multiple bikes or cars within a lane to follow. The Harley system incorporates a transceiver that can ping out the bike's location to other vehicles on the road, so with a group of riders sharing the same piece of tarmac, and using the same H-D adaptive cruise control system, a group of bikes can track and monitor the location of each other in real-time for a safer and more controlled group riding experience. WORLD RECORD HARLEY GATHERING Paris Harley-Davidson, a dealership located in Paris, Texas, recently set a new Guinness World Record for the “Most HarleyDavidson Motorcycles in a Parade”. The number to beat was 2,404, which was held by the Hellas Motorcycle Club in Greece since 2010, and on Oct. 5, 2019 the Paris H-D parade crushed that mark with 3,497 motorcycles. Harley enthusiasts from 48 states, Canada and Europe traveled to the event to take part in the historic gathering. ”WE DID IT! We brought it home to AMERICA,” posted motorcycling philanthropist Adam Sandoval, a participant known for riding to every Harley-Davidson dealership in the lower 48 states with his dog Scooter to raise money and awareness for our military and their families. Paris H-D was quick to give props to local law enforcement and first responders, along with countless volunteers and supporters. When babies crap in their pants, people are still gonna’ Luv’ em’, Hug’ em and Pamper em’… When old people crap in their pants, it “Depends” on who’s in the damn will. -------------------------------------------------------------Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts. Well, after another beer, and some heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby; and here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, “it might be nice to have another child.” On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, “You know, I think I might be ready to try another kick in the nuts.” I rest my case. 30

A woman went to the doctor’s office and was seen by one of the new young doctors. After about four minutes in the examination room, she started screaming and ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was, and she told him her story. After listening, he told her to sit down and relax in another room. The older doctor marched down the hallway to the back where the first doctor was and demanded, “What’s the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?” The new doctor continued to write on his clipboard and, without looking up, said, “Does she still have the hiccups?” --------------------------------------------------------------A Preacher was explaining that he must move on to a larger congregation that will pay him more. There is a hush within the congregation. No one wanted him to leave. Joe Smith, who owns several car dealerships in the City stands up and Proclaims, .. ‘If the Preacher stays, I will provide him with a new Cadillac every year, and his wife with a Honda mini-van to transport their children!’ The congregation sighs in relief, and applauds. Sam Brown, a successful entrepreneur and investor, stands and says, ‘If the Preacher will stay on here, I’ll personally double his salary, and also establish a foundation to guarantee the college education of all his children!’ More sighs and loud applause. Sadie Jones, age 88, stands and announces with a smile, ‘If the Preacher stays, I will give him sex!’ There is total silence. The Preacher, blushing, asks her, ‘Mrs. Jones, whatever possessed you to say that?’ Sadie’s 90 year old husband Jake is now trying to hide, holding his forehead with the palm of his hand, and shaking his head from side to side, while his wife replies, ‘Well , I just asked my husband how we could help, and he said, ‘Screw him!’ --------------------------------------------------------------Old Husband, ‘Why don’t you ever make any indication that you’re having an orgasm? Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: My wife an I recently moved to the country. Our former house had a country like setting but the influx of people from New York, Massachusetts, California, Illinois and a list of other Democrat controlled parts of the country was making me feel like a gumdrop on an ant hill. These people are fed up with the high taxes, social deterioration and the government oppression of their former “Blue” state homes. They come to Tennessee to enjoy the financial responsibility and liberty of our Volunteer State. Unfortunately, many of these folks have been brain washed by the communist re-education centers we call universities, media and political correctness and want to change the great state of Tennessee into North Korea, China or New York. If they like Tennessee well enough to move here, why in the hell can’t they enjoy Tennessee the way it is and accept life without liberal oppression!!!! Nashville is one liberal utopia example of what they are doing. I’ve always flown the symbol of our constitutional republic on the front of my house but have never had a real flag pole standing in my front yard. Kids, motorcycles and bills always had a slightly higher priority for my income. Now that I’m retired and have a new life in the country, I finally ordered a real deal flag pole for my front yard. I made sure it is big enough for our American flag and a POW/MIA flag underneath it. I’ve ordered solar powered lights so the flag will be illuminated at night. It’s been my experience that outdoor flags only last about 6 months and I change them out when they are worn but usually, I change them out just before Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. I’m a Vietnam veteran and spent 20 years in the Army. Over that 20 years seventy-four guys I knew and worked with died protecting our freedom and liberty. When I sign off with “ride for those who can’t,” it’s those men that I ride for. I hope you have someone you ride for. I consider it my duty to live the good and patriotic life they can’t live. I do it to honor them and I know if things were reversed and I had died in service they would have lived a good life to honor me!! I am making a small patio to go around the base of my new

flag pole with a bench. The bench is to remind me of those who are not here to sit with me. I’ve always had an eye for determining the lay of the land and while I was in service, I usually knew what was coming down the pike. When we got alerted to go put out a “fire” somewhere in the world I had a good hunch where we were going before we were told. It helped me be mentally prepared and be a little bit comfortable with what was coming. Likewise, I still look at what is going on and try to read the landscape today. As I read the landscape, we have a very vigorous Marxist inspired civil war going on in our country. You only have to look at what the Marxists are doing to overthrow our duly elected president to see where their radical grab to control our country, overthrow our United States Constitution and establish a communist dictated socialist republic of America is going!! My crystal ball tells me that I’ve made my last move and that I will likely die at home. Hopefully not for at least another 50 years, but I’ll die here. I know the options for how that may go. I may pass in the middle of the night while I’m asleep. I may pass in my front yard while sitting on my bench under my blessed American flag or I may die at the hands of Marxist jack-booted thugs in my front yard after notable resistance. When I joined the Army, I took an oath to protect my country from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. I’ll be faithful to that oath to my last breath. We have a president who is trying his best to turn back the tide of Marxism but he can’t do it alone. It will take the support of every red blooded American to defeat the Marxists at the ballot box and avoid having to defeat them in the streets. Make no mistake, if they are willing to undermine the constitution and overthrow an election, they will massacre their opposition if they succeed in taking over the country. Marxists and communists have done it every time they have secured power!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t.
