“Work the Crumbs” Rom.1:16 “…The gospel of Jesus Christ…to the Jew first.” Matt.10:5-6 “Jesus commanded them, saying, go not into the way of the Gentiles. But go rather to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.” Jesus was originally sent to the Jewish religion first before the gospel was open to the Gentiles (anybody outside of the Jewish religion) Matt.15:21-28 “A woman from Canaan (Gentile) came and cried unto Jesus, saying, have mercy on me, O lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But He answered her not a Word.” Jesus ignores her cries. Then the disciples come to Jesus “saying, send her away; for she cries after us.” I didn’t recall hearing her cry for “Mathew, Mark, Luke, or John.” Sometimes small minded men like to exercise big power. The disciples still had this religious legalistic mindset, she knew only Jesus could help her. “He answered her” Jesus enter into a conversation with her; “I am sent to the lost sheep of Israel,” Jesus turns her down. “Then came she and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, help me!” He answered her again. First we must notice that she address’ Him as “Lord, thou Son of David” acknowledging His deity. Even after He turns her down, “she worships Him.” God will always hear your prayers, and if He can hear your problems, He can also hear your Worship, if you do or don’t worship Him. If you want answers, you must “worship Him.” But His second answer was harder than the first; “It is not right to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.” The Jewish religion referred to the Gentile nation as dogs. Then she answers; “Truth, Lord, yet the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the master’s table.” She knew the Jewish religion well enough to see how they would waste the things of God. Christians today can get fat & happy off of the Word of God and take for granted the privileges of being in a Covenant with God. Matt.5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger & thirst

April 2017

after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” You don’t have to be right, just be hungry! This mother is telling Jesus that she would be happy with just the leftovers, “The Crumbs.” When you grow up poor, you learn how to do more with less. The best cooks come from a poor background. When you have started out behind everybody else, you’re just happy to have a “level playing field.” But once you have made it, you have a greater appreciation for where you are. You’ve learned how to “Work the Crumbs in your life.” The sad thing is to see those that started out with everything and end up with nothing. Jesus answers her the third time; “Woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou will.” Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Minnie is a super laid back cat! She’s done with wild kitten shenanigans and is ready to settle in for a long snooze while you binge watch your favorite tv show. Minnie lives in a home with cats, dogs and is good with small children. Meet Princess... such a beauty!!! Princess needs a home where she can be loved and understood. She is a quite cat and will need time to adjust to her new home. She is very sweet. She has had a hard life and needs time to trust again. Can you give her that home she has always wanted? My name is Nicole, I am sweet, nice and a little shy at first. I do love people once I get to know them, and I am good with other cats. I would be a great addition to any home.

Phoebe came into rescue pregnant with a litter of kittens and very afraid of humans. We soon discovered she would need an emergency c-section to deliver her babies because she had a crushed pelvis. Either from abuse or being hit by a car. Her pelvis is healed, although not in the correct position. She doesn’t have any lasting problems other than some difficulty jumping high. She is now a loving, sweet young cat who loves to be around her foster family. She is always checking to see where everyone is, and prefers to hang out with the family. She has excellent litter box manners, and will be a sweet addition to any home.

Pippi is a sweet and playful cat. She loves to play and gets along with other cats, dogs, and would be fine around children. Pippi has great litterbox manners and is up to date on her shots/ vaccinations and she has been spayed.

Meet Tito, he is a creamy beige 2 yr. male. Very playful and energetic. Has been neutered, first set of shots and rabies vaccine. Loves to be the center of attention but does not like dogs. Tito does well with cats as long as he has a slow introduction! Would be best to be the only cat in the home. Silly facts: likes to lay in the sink, likes to try to take a shower with you, and likes to play in the water bowl!

RIDER SAFETY

Emergency Basics – Tire Skids

courtesy “MSF Basic RiderCourse”

Last month we reviewed the fundamentals of braking to a stop as recommended by our friends from the Tennessee State Police Motorcycle Unit. When learning to ride a motorcycle, one of the most important skills to master is proper braking. Being confident of your braking skills will help you when the time comes for you to handle an emergency-braking maneuver. Most motorcycles have a front brake lever for the front brake and a rear brake pedal for the rear brake. It’s important to check with your MOM (Motorcycle Owner’s Manual) to see if you have a specialized braking system on your bike. These may include anti-lock brakes (ABS), combined/linked brakes or integrated brakes. Perhaps you have encountered a distracted driver and you need to slow quickly. You want to achieve the shortest braking distance possible. To do this, squeeze the clutch and use both brakes at the same time. Keep you head up and eyes looking forward. If you haven’t practiced emergency braking and have been aggressive with the brakes, you can find yourself in a skid situation. Too much front brake pressure will increase the weight on your front tire while the weight on the back tire decreases. Grabbing the front brake lever instead of a progressively squeezing it can cause a front tire skid. What should you do if you have a front tire skid? If the front wheel stops turning resulting in the front tire skidding, release the front brake lever to get your front wheel rolling again and reapply the front brake if needed. Rear tire skids can occur when your rear wheel is in line with the front wheel (straight) or with the back wheel skidding to the left or right of the front tire. If the back is moving sideways, the MSF instructs us to “keep pressure on the rear brake pedal so the wheel continues to skid and maintain balance to stay upright” (MSF Basic RiderCourse, pg. 34). Remember to keep your head and eyes up. If your rear wheel is in line with the front wheel (or straight) then you can release the rear brake pedal

and reapply it if needed. A word of caution: do not release the rear brake pedal if the rear wheel is not in line with the front wheel. “If the rear wheel stops skidding and starts to roll, the motorcycle will quickly straighten and you can be thrown off in front of the motorcycle. This is called a high-side fall.” (MSF Basic RiderCourse, pg. 35) Why do you need to keep these skills sharp? How many times have you glanced over at the vehicle next to you and saw the driver doing something other than driving the vehicle? Texting…..all the time. Eating….we all do that one! Putting on mascara….how do they do that? Reading the mail….. saw that just the other day. And, a new one for me, I saw a young lady brushing her teeth. Really, I saw that! At www.Distracted.gov, a resource that focuses on distracted driving, you can see the following fact: “Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded.” Now, imagine all the things that can happen in those five seconds. We teach our students in the Basic RiderCourse to always be thinking about “What If?” One of the reasons all of us should be constantly thinking about “What If?” is because in our imperfect world, avoiding an emergency situation should be our first goal. If it can’t be avoided, then your skills for emergency braking are critical. Always keep improving your riding skills, find a safe place and practice braking to become more familiar with your motorcycle. Safe riding starts with you! Donna, along with being an avid riding enthusiast, is a MSF motorcycle safety coach for the state of Tennessee and a Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Coach. She is a member of the Motor Maids, H.O.G. and Ladies of Harley.

Bullet Points

PRINCIPLES OF A SELF-DEFENSE CLAIM – IMMINENCE

Greetings, fellow bikers. As I sit here and write this month’s column it is a balmy 34 degrees outside. It seems as though midMarch is trying to impersonate mid-January. Mother Nature is indeed very confused. This month’s column is the third in a series on the fundamentals of a self-defense claim. Last month’s column dealt with the first essential component of a self-defense claim – Innocence. This month will be devoted to Imminence.

In the event that you have responded to a situation with lethal force, you first need to be the innocent party – meaning you were not the aggressor or provocateur. Without innocence, your claim of self-defense will quickly fall apart. Next, there has to be imminence. A quick Google search of legal websites will lead you to Black’s Law Dictionary. Imminence relates to their discussion of homicide in self-defense and is defined as: “….immediate danger, such as must be instantly met, such as cannot be guarded against by calling for the assistance of others or protection of the law…. such an appearance of threatened and impending injury as would put a reasonable and prudent man to his instant defense.” – Black’s Law Dictionary In other words, you have to respond immediately to the threat or risk being seriously maimed, injured, disfigured or killed. Lethal force, or for that matter non-lethal force, used too early, or too late (after the threat is gone), will fail the imminence test. Massad Ayoob has been training in self-defense principles for years and I have read several of his books, most recently, “Deadly Force: Understanding Your Right to Self Defense.” Mas has written much on building a self-defense case and it might be helpful in our discussion on imminence to bring into play his concept of imminence, which is often referred to as the AOJ Triad: Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy. Ability: Opportunity: Jeopardy:

Is your attacker able to hurt you? Can the attacker get to you? Does the attacker, who has ability and opportunity, intend to use illegal force against you?

I will take a deeper dive into Ability in next month’s column on proportionality, but it is worth mentioning now that anyone has the ability to hurt you. Be it with their fists, an impact weapon - like a knife or hammer - or with a gun. It is, however, germane to the next leg of the AOJ Triad, opportunity. Opportunity relates specifically to whether or not the thug can get at you. If you are in your locked car, at a stoplight, and the thug approaches you with nothing more than his fists, yelling he is going to kill you, he does not have the opportunity to get at you. Using lethal force in this scenario will likely fail in a self-defense litmus test. However, if the same thug is coming at you with a large brick in his hand, he may well be able to get to you. The

April 2017

car, in the first scenario, can be an obstacle and obstacles are something you need to use to your advantage.

Let’s consider another scenario. You are walking to your car in a dark parking lot. You are being approached by a person that appears intent on doing you harm. Can you put an obstacle between you and the thug? Perhaps you can get behind a car in the parking lot and use it as a shield against a potential attack? In this scenario, immediately resorting to lethal force on the individual would be a bad idea. Distance is also a consideration when speaking of opportunity. If the same thug is coming at you with a gun, distance becomes a non-issue since he can reach out to you with hot lead. But if he is brandishing a machete, distance is certainly an opportunity limitation. Granted, he might throw the machete at you, but he is unlikely to hurt you from more than a few yards away. The same holds true with other impact weapons like a hammer of a knife. But at what distance does the hammer or knife wielding thug become a substantial threat? This is dependent on how quickly you can bring proportional force into play. A good rule of thumb is the Tueller Drill. Sergeant Dennis Tueller, of the Salt Lake City police department, came up with this drill by measuring how much ground a knife wielding attacker could cover in 1.5 seconds – the time it took an average police officer to un-holster his service pistol and accurately fire two rounds, center mass. Using many volunteers, Tueller came up with a distance of 21 feet. Your Tueller Drill distance will likely be greater than 21 feet since your ability to draw your pistol and fire two rounds accurately may well take longer than 1.5 seconds. The last leg of the AOJ Triad is the most important – Jeopardy. Does the person intend to use illegal force against you? An armed police officer standing next to you has the ability and opportunity to hurt you. But the AOJ triad would fail because he does not intend to hurt you. However, a thug standing less than 21 feet away from you, brandishing a knife, does possess all of the elements of the AOJ Triad. In review, if you are the innocent person, and there is an imminent threat of severe injury, or death, you have two of the five components of a self-defense claim. Next month, we will discuss proportionality – the third component of a self-defense claim. Until then, ride often with the shiny side up. Molon Labe, Mike Noirot Note: I am not a lawyer and nothing in this column represents legal advice. My article is based on common sense and many years of studying self-defense.

WILL RIDE TO EAT

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley

BACK ALLEY BBQ

In the 1930’s and 1940’s it was Campbell’s Sinclair Gas Station. This was a two-bay service station at 105 East College Street, Dickson, Tennessee 37055. They sold gas, did repair service on cars, sold tires and promoted Sinclair Opaline oil. The building has gone through a lot of changes over the years but the best change came in 2012 when Justin Reynolds turned it into his first barbecue restaurant. You can learn more about the Back Alley BBQ at http://www.backalleybbqdc.com or at www.facebook.com/backalleybbqdc/ . The phone number is (615) 306-5577. Justin was in the insurance business when the economy turned down and ended up between jobs for an extended period. Instead of jumping on the couch and watching the soaps he pursued something he had been doing all his life – cooking. He started working on perfecting his skill at barbeque and doing a lot of cooking at home. Well one thing led to another and before long Justin had people asking him to cook for them. His pursuit of perfection went on for 3 years. Still not convinced his future was in the restaurant business he kept looking for opportunity in corporate America. Finally, after another year he took the bull by the horns and started looking for a place to open a restaurant. As they say in the real estate business it’s all about location, location, location. Justin found a great location in downtown Dickson, Tennessee but the building needed a lot of tender love and care. He set about remodeling, painting and making the place a reflection of Tennessee and everything great BBQ places are supposed to be. Over time he has added a big smoker, storage space and has given it a personality with unique decoration and atmosphere. The menu is not real complicated but it doesn’t need to be. Each entrée is a smoked gourmet delight. They offer melt in your mouth delicious pulled pork, tender and juicy

14

brisket, a unique and very meaty smoked meatloaf on Tuesdays, awesome bologna on Wednesdays, various sizes of fall off the bone ribs with a secret rub perfected by Justin, and hand rubbed BBQ chicken. You don’t need a knife for anything. It just falls off the bone and jumps on your fork. Justin says that the Love and Emotion is in the food and it’s a mood changer. He does everything in his power to make sure you have a zen moment when you eat at the Back Alley. They also do catering within 50 miles of Dickson. The sides are all scratch made, no MSG and nothing artificial. If you want it fresh, that’s what you get here. Potato salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, corn pudding, baked beans and mac and cheese. Those are the normal foods in a BBQ but they are anything but normal at the Back Alley. They are all unique signature dishes and you have to taste them to really know what I’m talking about. For desert, they have Chocolate Chess Pie, Chocolate pecan pie, regular pecan pie and banana pudding. If you hit them on the right day you can get “slap your mama” peach cobbler. And you’ll want to, I’m not kidding. Everything is priced for real working people and bikers who need a break after buying some chrome. Parking is plentiful. If you are out riding to eat and see me, please come up and tell me your favorite places to go when you’re hungry and thirsty. “Will Ride to Eat” is an ongoing article in Thunder Roads Magazine of Tennessee and we want to put the spotlight on the great history of and variety of Tennessee’s biker friendly establishments.

BIKE OF THE MONTH

2016 Custom H-D Hard Runner Chopper

Congratulations to Dave Jones on winning our monthly Bike Contest on Facebook!

In the summer of 2016 I was browsing Craigslist and came across a rolling springer chassis for sale. Having just watched several re-runs of Biker Build Off a few days earlier, I really wanted to try my hand at building a bike. Knowing I didn’t have the skills to fully complete the build on my own, I called Jere at Hellbent Custom Cycles to see if he would partner with me on this project which he quickly agreed to. I spent the next couple of months just gathering parts: First came the RevTech crate motor and a BDL 3” open primary along with a 6 speed transmission. Now Jere and Dan could begin mocking things up while I looked for the remainder of the parts which included Martin Brothers exhaust, DNA calipers, Tail End Customs tail light, and a list of other parts. Wanting a little comfort we decided on a hand tooled Nomad leather seat with 3/4 inch memory foam and dual air bags to soften the ride. Now it was time for paint. Having already deciding on black & red we now felt it needed something more to really make it pop. Wanting to keep with the old school look we agreed on a classic pinstripe and JDeez Customs in Paris, TN achieved just that and much more. The build was finished just in time to enter it in the Easyriders Bike show in Nashville where it took 1st place in the Modern Chopper class. Not only does it look good but rides good also. Thank you to Jere, Dan, JD and Jen for all the help along the way, couldn’t have done it without you all. The bike came out better than I had imagined and I couldn’t be any prouder of the finished product. If you have a cool custom bike you would like to have featured in our magazine, enter it in our monthly contest by submitting a pic of your bike to ThunderRoadsTn@gmail.com

She was bold and beautiful and she rode a motorcycle in ways most men would never attempt. As a result she became a big deal in her heyday and even managed to be featured in Life Magazine in 1948. She also happened to be an avid motorcycle rider who is also rumored to be the first female to finish the Baja 1000 and found herself in the innercircle of the land speed racers, including Don Vesco. In the late 1970s, Holley was given an opportunity to ride Vesco’s streamliner at Bonneville in an effort to reach 150-mph. She had never ridden at the Salt before and yet she clicked off a 180-mph run and was hooked on speed ever since. Her next real run took place in 1978 at an SCTA event a while later where she went 229-mph and became the first woman to officially break into the 200-mph club. At the time she was the fastest woman in the world, a record that stood for over 30 years. Grand Teton National ParkColter Bay

The 485 square mile Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming, was established in 1929. The origin of the name Grand Teton is disputed as being from the French for “grand teat” or for the Teton Sioux tribe. Grand Teton itself stands 6,530 feet tall and is a popular climbing site, with multiple trails. Colter Bay is one of the most picturesque bays in the Rocky Mountains. As a part Jackson Lake in the northern Grand Teton National Park, 20 miles south of Yellowstone National Park and 25 miles north of Moose WY. Colter Bay was named for John Colter. Although a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, he’s better known for his explorations of Yellowstone and the Teton Mountain Range, in the winter of 1807-08. He was the original “mountain man”, having spent months alone in the wilderness. In Colter Bay Village, camping and cabins are available. Many of the cabins were moved from other locations in Jackson Hole, including some moved from Ben Sheffield’s Moran (dude) Ranch in 1955. You can also rent canoes or boats at the Colter Bay Marina and enjoy Jackson Lake or the Snake River. With the scenic roadways you can enjoy the beauty without leaving your vehicle. For the more active visitor, there are several trailheads for hiking or backpacking. Colter Bay is only one of many places to visit in the Grand Tetons. Jenny Lake, Jackson Lake Lodge, and Jackson Hole are popular. In all cases, wildlife is abundant, as are the spectacular views. Most visitors only go to the neighboring Yellowstone National Park and miss this jewel in the Rockies. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper

Get your large skillet good and hot on medium high. Add a heaping Tablespoon of margarine and as soon as melted swirl around skillet and add your ham steaks. Cook well on the 1st side so that you get a really good caramelization. Salt & pepper each side. When you flip, shake on your cinnamon if desired (adds a great flavor) and the 2nd underside doesn’t need to cook as long. Pour your syrup over each ham steak to cover thoroughly and turn heat to very low. Take your two cans of White Sausage Gravy or Plain White Gravy and heat thoroughly until bubbly hot. Add the other Tablespoon of quality margarine and mix it in for a silky texture. One ham steak takes up a whole plate. Add a can of Sliced Apples heated up in the microwave with a touch of margarine, cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg and baby, Woooee! this is spot on for Easter and super simple on the Chief Cook.

TOASTED CHEESE TORTILLA’S AKA CHEESE CRISPS - SUPER EASY

Preheat Oven to Broil Setting 1 Package of Large Round Tortillas * Take a fork and poke holes throughout each one One non-stick large skillet; get it super hot 1 X-Large Bag of Blended Cheeses; Mexican, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Parmesan, *Pepper Jack if want some heat Have a Large Pizza Pan on counter Take each tortilla and place it in hot skillet. Let it get really hot and brown spots all over, flip and do same Remove, place on pizza pan, and literally do overkill on the cheese. Place in oven and stand there and keep an eye on it. When cheese is totally melted the underneath will have crisped up. Remove and take a spatula and spread cheese around. Then take a pizza cutter and cut exactly as you would a pizza. These are famous in all states associated with Mexican cuisine. Do as many as you have guests to eat immediately. I like to put out small bowls of sour cream for each guest. I’ve had these in Arizona and Texas before and some serve w/ cheese only and others dress up with green chilies or Ro-Tel brand tomatoes (drain in paper towels so as not to un-crisp your tortillas) or bacon. I just like to keep them simple because they are simply Delicious!

SLOW COOKER BANANAS FOSTER 4 Bananas Cut Into 2 inch pieces 1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar 1 Stick Real Butter; Small Pieces 1 tsp. Dried Cinnamon 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract 1/4 Cup Dark or White Rum 1/4 Cup of Water Add everything into yoru slow cooker and mix well. Add in bananas. Gently toss with fingers so they don’t get smashed. Cook on high for 2 hours 30 minutes if you prefer the texture of the banana to have a bite, if not, cook another half hour to have a soft texture. Serve with your favorite premium vanilla ice cream while piping hot and this will be one of your favorite plan ahead desserts. This recipe serves (2). Adjust to accommodate guests. Or, you can do what I do and make extra for pancakes the next morning. Yeah, Baby!

S

ince I turned 60 this year I have lived through many riding fads over the years from the rat bikes to choppers to the billet queens and more. One constant thing that has prevailed as long as there has been two wheelers are the adventurous ladies who dare to ride their own bikes. And I, for one, have always admired that. It has not always been that way. I remember a time when many men just plain did not care to see women riding bikes. Now you might see almost as many riding as men. And they are usually more careful too :) Two things I have always enjoyed on a bike since I began riding in 1976. The freedom it gives me with the wind in my hair and my knees in the breeze. Second was the women pushing the envelope to enjoy that same freedom in control of their own bike or on the back of one too. Lets face it. Riding just wouldn’t be the same without the females around. So I want to share a different sort of Flashback with y’all this month. Here is a collection of vintage photos of ladies from the early days of riding up into them crazy chopper days of the 1970s and beyond for you to enjoy. Spring is almost here and you know what that means? Time get your bikes serviced, check your tires, and make plans to attend some events coming up. And it also means women won’t be wearing near as many clothes :) I hope to see ya on the road somewhere. Ride safe & often!!!!

CONGRESSIONAL BILLS REINTRODUCED TO CURB ETHANOL Calling the Federal Ethanol Mandate “a Flop,” a bipartisan group of lawmakers have re-introduced two bills in the U.S. House of Representatives to cap the ethanol content of commercial gasoline and decrease the total volume of renewable fuel that must be contained in gasoline on the American market. “It’s time the ethanol mandate became a thing of the past. While well-intentioned from the start, after a decade of this policy it couldn’t be more obvious that the RFS is a flop,” announced Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) on March 2, 2017 after introducing two bills to alter the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), the RFS Elimination Act (H.R. 1314) and the RFS Reform Act (H.R. 1315). Reps. Goodlatte, Jim Costa (D-CA), Steve Womack (R-AR), and Peter Welch (D-VT) issued a joint statement after reintroducing H.R. 1315; “The Renewable Fuel Standard is a well-intentioned flop…it’s clearer than ever that the federal government’s creation of an artificial market for the ethanol industry has resulted in a domino effect that is hurting people across the country.” The RFS Elimination Act (H.R. 1314) has the support of 60 bipartisan cosponsors and would repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard which mandates that 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels (primarily corn ethanol) be part of our nation’s fuel supply by 2022. The RFS Reform Act (H.R. 1315), which has the support of 42 cosponsors, “eliminates corn-based ethanol requirements, caps the amount of ethanol that can be blended into conventional gasoline at 10 percent, requires the EPA to set cellulosic biofuels levels at production levels, and decreases the total volume of renewable fuel that must be contained in gasoline sold or introduced into commerce for years 2017-2022.” BLACK BOX PRIVACY PROTECTION ACT H.R.736, the “Black Box Privacy Protection Act”, was introduced in the House on January 30, 2017 by Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA). This bill amends the Automobile Information Disclosure Act to require manufacturers of new automobiles to disclose on the information label affixed to the window of the automobile: (1) the presence and location of an event data recorder (commonly referred to as a “black box”), (2) the type of information recorded and how such information is recorded, and (3) that the recording may be used in a law enforcement proceeding. The bill sets forth similar requirements for motorcycle manufacturers. An “event data recorder” is any device or means of technology installed in an automobile that records information such as automobile or motorcycle speed, seatbelt use, application of brakes, or other information pertinent to the operation of the automobile or motorcycle. The bill prohibits the manufacture, sale, offering for sale, or import into the United States of an automobile manufactured after model year of 2016 that is equipped with an event data recorder, unless the consumer can control the recording of information. Violators are liable to the U.S. government for a civil penalty of up to $5,000 for each violation with a maximum penalty of $35 million for a 28

related series of violations. The event data recorder in an automobile or motorcycle, and any data recorded, shall be considered the property of the owner of the automobile or motorcycle. Retrieval or downloading of recorded data by any other person is unlawful, except: (1) with the owner’s consent, (2) in response to a court order, or (3) by a dealer or automotive technician to service the vehicle. Certain violations are to be treated as unfair or deceptive acts or practices under the Federal Trade Commission Act. IDAHO SENATE KILLS ANTI-PROFILING BILL THAT HOUSE UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSED Idaho senators killed a proposal outlawing motorcycling profiling, which had passed the House unanimously, defeating H.B.123 on the Senate floor by a vote of 22-13 on March 15. Several senators said they’d spoken with their local sheriffs or other law enforcement and learned there had been no complaints of motorcycle profiling, that law enforcement opposed the bill, and one senator testified that his local sheriff said if the bill became law a motorcycle gang member wearing colors who was stopped for probable cause would get a plausible defense. The bill would have banned motorcycle profiling by state or local law enforcement, which it defines as “the arbitrary use of the fact that a person rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle-related paraphernalia as a factor in deciding to stop and question, take enforcement action, arrest or search a person or vehicle.” In 2011, the state of Washington passed a further-reaching law, which also included requirements for training for law enforcement. Advocates reported that complaints about motorcycle profiling there dropped 90 percent after the anti-profiling law took effect. In 2016, Maryland became the second state to enforce such anti-profiling measures. “This bill is consistent with good police practices, which relies on conduct for making a stop,” said Senator Jeff Agenbroad (R-Nampa), the bill’s Senate sponsor in an interview with The Spokesman-Review newspaper. WASHINGTON ACTIVISTS RALLY FOR LANE-SPLITTING Motorcycle advocates rallied in Olympia on Friday, March 17 in support of state Senate Bill 5378, which would allow motorcycles to go in-between cars stuck in traffic, or “split lanes.” Some motorcyclists are demanding a public hearing. The bill has passed in the Senate with a bipartisan majority but has since been stuck in a House committee for weeks. Motorcyclists want a vote on it, and before that can happen, it needs a public hearing. The issue has created a firestorm on social media, pitting many drivers against motorcycle riders who want to see the legislation pass in Washington State. “In most cases we can split a lane and not interfere with anybody or not hit anybody, and we can move on right down the road,” Andy McAfee, a member of Spanaway ABATE, told CBS-affiliate KREM-2 news. Basically, the law would allow motorcyclists to ride between lanes of cars in heavy traffic. They would have to keep their speeds below 35 mph and go no more than 10 mph above flow of traffic. If passed, the legislation would also make vehicle drivers guilty of an infraction if they intentionally block a motorcycle from splitting lanes. Currently, lane splitting is only legal in California, though similar measures have recently been introduced in Texas (S.B.288), Oregon (S.B.385) and Hawaii (H.B.727).

UTAH LEGISLATURE VOTES TO REQUIRE HELMETS FOR RIDERS UP TO AGE 21 A bill to newly require motorcyclists ages 18, 19 and 20 to wear helmets has passed the Utah legislature and is on its way to Governor Gary Herbert for his signature or veto. Under current Utah law, motorcyclists under 18 years old are required to wear helmets. The Utah House voted 43-30 on Wednesday, March 8 to approve S.B.159. The Senate previously approved it 17-12. The bill is sponsored by Senator Brian Shiozawa (R-Cottonwood Heights), an emergency room doctor who says he has seen far too many traumatic head injuries from motorcycle crashes among young adults. But several lawmakers argued against the proposal, questioning the value of restricting personal freedoms in the name of safety and describing the bill as “legislative creep.” ARIZONA HELMET LAW DECISIVELY DEFEATED “In Arizona, you don’t mess with regulations on who can ride in the back of a pickup truck, and you don’t force a helmet on a motorcyclists’ head,” stated the Arizona Republic newspaper in reporting the demise of a Pay-to-Play helmet law proposal in committee. “That was made clear Wednesday (Jan 18), when a bill to mandate helmets got its first public consideration in years and promptly died.” Even the Democratic colleagues of the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Randy Friese (D-Tucson), voted against House Bill 2046. “Although no one could immediately pinpoint the last time the issue came before a committee, the prior proposal inspired bikers to circle the Capitol mall, longtime staffers said. The rumble from the engines was so loud it was heard inside House and Senate chambers and shook office partitions.” Bikers decked out in leather and bandanas told lawmakers the greater peril came from cars and trucks and said more education for all drivers is the better solution. The eight members of the House Transportation Committee sided with the bikers, voting unanimously to reject the bill. H.B.2046 would have imposed a fine of $500 on violators, with $300 of the fine going directly to a fund for head trauma patients, and in a twist, proposed that riders could pay a fee when registering their motorcycle allowing them to purchase an exemption to the law. safety, could be on freeways even sooner than autonomous passenger cars, which have been hogging most of the limelight. The process of automating long-haul freight trucks -- the behemoths that deliver food and goods, often to places airplanes, boats and trains can’t or won¹t go -- is actually easier than it is for cars. This is because these trucks spend most of their road time on open highways, where there is less stopping and fewer traffic rules than in areas with pedestrians, according to Anthony Levandowski, CEO of Otto, an autonomoustrucking company he co-founded early last year. Speaking at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, Levandowski, a former software engineer on Google¹s self-driving car project, added that despite racking up only 5.6 percent of all the miles driven in the U.S., trucks are found to be at fault for nearly 9.5 percent of the country¹s driving fatalities. Many proponents of self-driving technology believe it can reduce human error, often brought on by fatigue. Otto, which Uber bought in August 2016, also wants to enable driverless commercial trucks to operate in carefully synchronized fleets. “Truck Platooning,” explains Jim Elgin, Chairman of ABATE of Ohio, “is a fast track issue” using radar and vehicle-vehicle (V2V) technologies to form and maintain close-headway formation between two or more in-lane vehicles. Smart tailgating, but “The big question,” asks Elgin, “is it Motorcycle-Friendly or not?” Truck convoys are nothing new, of course, but a computerized driving system could theoretically let them safely drive even closer together, reducing the wind drag that makes engines work harder and burn more gas. For obvious reasons these trucks could also stay on the road for longer stretches, giving drivers some much-needed downtime rather than keeping them at the wheel well past exhaustion. I’m a gal, he’s single... He lives right across the street. I can see his place from my kitchen window. I watched as he got home from work this evening. I was surprised when he walked across the street, up my driveway and knocked on the door. I opened the door, he looked at me and said, “I just got home, and I have this strong urge to have a good time, dance, get drunk, and have wild sex tonight. Are you doing anything? “I replied, “Nope, I’m free!” “Great,” he said. “Can you watch my dog?” _______________________________________________________ A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbor and says, “Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can’t figure out how to get started.” Her neighbor asks, “What is it supposed to be when it’s finished?” The little silver haired lady says, “According to the picture on the box, it’s a rooster.” Her neighbor decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, “First of all, no matter what we do, we’re not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a rooster.” He takes her hand and says, “Secondly, I want you to relax. Let’s have a nice cup of tea” and then he said with a deep sigh ............ “Let’s put all the Corn Flakes back in the box.” _______________________________________________________ Two old drunks are sitting in a bar when the first one says, “Ya know, when I was thirty and got an erection, I couldn’t bend it, even using both hands. By the time I was forty, I could bend it about ten degrees if I tried really hard. By the time I was fifty, I could bend it about forty five degrees, no problem. I’m gonna be sixty next week, and now I can bend it in half with just one hand.” “So,” says the second drunk, “what’s your point?” “Well, I’m just wondering how much stronger I’m gonna get.” _______________________________________________________ A robber was inside a house. All of a sudden someone said, “Jesus is watching you!” “What?” said the robber? He started to pick up the MOXI, he heard “Jesus is watching you!” The robber pointed his flashlight at the voice and asked, “Who said that?” It was a parrot. “I’m Moses,” said the parrot. “Who in the world would name you Moses?” asked the robber. The parrot answered, “The same man that named the pit-bull in the corner Jesus!” 30

With a very seductive voice a wife asked her husband “Have you ever seen $20 all crumpled up?” “No” said her husband. She gave him a sexy little smile unbuttoned the top three buttons of her blouse and slowly reached down in her cleavage created by a soft, silky pushup bra and pulled out a crumpled twenty dollar bill. He took the crumpled bill from her and smiled approvingly. She then asked “Have you ever seen $50 all crumpled up?” “No I haven’t” he said, an anxious tone in his voice. She gave him another sexy little smile pulled up her skirt, seductively reached into her tight sheer panties and pulled out a crumpled fifty dollar bill. He took the crumpled bill and started breathing a little quicker with anticipation. “Now” she said “Have you ever seen $50,000 all crumpled up?” “No way” he said becoming even more aroused and excited to which she purred: “Go look in the garage.” --------------------------------------------------------------A small zoo in Arkansas obtained a very rare species of gorilla. Within a few weeks the gorilla, a female, became very difficult to handle. Upon examination, the Veterinarian determined the problem. The gorilla was in heat. To make matters worse, there was no male gorilla available. Thinking about their dilemma, the Zoo Keeper’s first idea was of Bobby Lee, a redneck part-time worker responsible for cleaning the animal cages. Bobby Lee had little sense but possessed ample ability to satisfy a female of any species. Herein, the Zoo Keeper thought they might have a solution. Bobby Lee was approached with a proposition: Would he be willing to mate with the gorilla for $500.00? Bobby Lee showed some interest, but said he would have to think the matter over carefully. The following day, he announced that he would accept their offer, but only under certain conditions: “First,” Bobby Lee said, “There aint gonna’ be no kissin’ her on the lips.” The Zoo Keeper quickly agreed to this condition. “Also”, he continued “you can’t never tell no one, no body about this.” The Keeper again readily agreed to this condition. And,” Bobby Lee said, “I want any your guns’ raised Southern Baptist.” Once again it was agreed. “And finally,” Bobby Lee said, “I’ll need another week to come up with the whole $500. bucks.” --------------------------------------------------------------Checking into a hotel I said, “I hope the porn channel in my room is disabled.” The hag Owner replied, “No, it’s regular porn you sick mo-fo.

April 2017

by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: I was watching a local TV newscast highlighting the explosion of heroin availability and heroin addicts. They showed a number of young adults with children who have become addicted and put their children in peril. The newscaster interviewed a couple in their late 50’s who raise their grand-daughter because their daughter, the mother, had become addicted and neglected the child. The grandparents stated they were in their silver years and should be free to travel and focus on each other but they are raising their granddaughter to give her a chance. So, when they should be free to ride motorcycles, dance and watch sunsets they are back being parents and paying for their daughter’s addiction. The mother gave up custody to her parents and entered programs specified by the courts to help with her addiction. She had been through an extensive resident program and after a while had been allowed by her mother and father to move into an upstairs bedroom. Although the daughter was living in the upstairs bedroom they restricted her from having contact with the granddaughter to control the bad influence. Addiction is an evil monster that has a way of hiding out and coming back just when you think it’s gone. No father was mentioned. What young couple who falls in love, gets married and has children ever expects to have to raise their grandchildren after having raised their children?? The newscaster said the number of grandparents raising grandchildren is growing! WTF!!! I do believe an overbearing government needs to take some responsibility for this. Where are the churches? Why are prayer and God being eradicated from our schools? Why is our government separating us into separate groups of people and using social programs to pit each group against the others? Why does only one kind of life matter? Why is illegal immigration protected in some cities? Why aren’t real American history and the brilliance of the constitution and electoral college being taught in our schools? Why do non-citizens get public money? The broadcast about heroin said that the Obama Administration proposed sending millions of dollars to the April 2017

states so they could deal with the heroin addiction issue. Isn’t that the same administration that refused to enforce border security, handcuffed our border patrol and allowed the cartels to import hundreds of tons of marijuana, cocaine and heroin into the country? Didn’t they reduce sentences for those who helped distribute illegal drugs on the street and release drug dealers from jail? Illegal drugs are the life blood of murders around the world!! Look at Chicago! I really hope there will be a significant change in our country now. We need to shrink our bloated government. It’s full of self-serving bureaucrats and offices that are only there to take away our personal freedom. We need to enforce immigration law, which means stopping illegal immigration while allowing “legal” immigration. Terrorists, drug cartels and the world’s criminals exploit illegal immigration. Why do more people carry guns? Because more bad people are on the streets and we have to protect ourselves. There should be punishment for crime and support for the police but remember - police come after the crime has been committed. Until they get there we have to save ourselves. Anti-gun laws only punish law abiding citizens. 21% of those in American prisons are illegal aliens. We need lower taxes so we can provide for our families. We need a healthy business environment where people can start businesses and work. The government makes a mess out of everything it gets involved in. It raises costs and takes away freedom. Career politicians have never put dinner on my table. The EPA hasn’t lowered the cost of a new car. Rain that falls on my property is mine, not the governments. Schools need to teach reading, writing and arithmetic. Schools are for learning and not for subversion. Indoctrination of social issues is not appropriate for public schools. You and me, not the government, need to make America great again!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifice s made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but, we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.
