E’RE SHIFTING into Spring in Tennessee! The weather is warming up and bikers are starting to hit the road. April is Helmet Safety Awareness Month, and we want you to be aware! I thought I would share some tips on fitting and maintaining this piece of safety equipment. Proper fit is vital to a helmet’s effectiveness. Your helmet should fit snug; when you shake your head from side to side, the helmet should move with you – not stay in one place while your head moves inside of it. Your helmet should not slide back over your head at an angle. When seated on your bike, your helmet should not obstruct your forward or lateral vision. Prior damage renders a helmet useless. When your helmet hits the pavement, the energy of the impact is absorbed and dissipated through the impact absorption material. This weakens the material. A helmet that has absorbed a significant impact, or whose shell is cracked in any way, should be replaced as soon as possible. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) also recommends replacing your helmet every few years regardless of whether it’s been damaged. They state that it’s possible the helmet’s protective qualities could deteriorate over time, and/or that helmet manufacturing technology will likely improve – making your next helmet lighter and more comfortable, and possibly less expensive, than an older one. When purchasing a helmet, to see if it meets the Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, look for the DOT sticker usually found on the back of the helmet. Share these tips and help us spread awareness about the importance of helmet use.

How about Easter falling on April Fools’ Day this year? What a strange coincidence! For the first time since 1956, Easter Sunday falls on April 1st. Since 1900, Easter has fallen on April Fools’ Day only four times - 1923, 1934, 1945 and 1956. It won’t happen again until 2029. I can think of so many ways to make this holiday memorable. How about you guys? What are you doing on April Easter Fools’ Day 2018? We’re thinking of having an Easter Egg Hunt and letting everyone search for the eggs we didn’t hide. Double the enjoyment! :) It’s time to get out and head to your favorite bike night, attend events and rally’s or just get out and RIDE! You can certainly tell that Spring has arrived from looking at the event listings, there’s no shortage of events to attend this month! Speaking of events, we are proud to once again sponsor the Buffalo Valley Amateur Hillclimb this year. If you have never seen a hillclimb in person it’s worth the trip and the new local racers are getting better, some are starting to win classes against national competition so come cheer the TN racers on at the Buffalo Valley Dragway on Sunday, May 6th. As we mentioned last month, Thunder Roads® Tennessee along with Steelhorse Law are in the process of organizing a Rolling Bike Night beginning in May. We will have 5 bike night parties, 1 a month, May through September all across the state with great fun and prizes and a grand prize for the person that attends the most. Our first Bike Night will be at the Bent Wrench Roadhouse on May 19th from 4-8pm. We hope you will join us for a fun filled night and be sure to come by our tent and get your Rolling Bike Night Card. You’ll need to get your card punched at each Bike Night that you attend to get your name in the drawing for the Grand Prize. Be sure to LIKE our Facebook page, Thunder Roads Magazine of Tennessee so you can keep up with all the latest happenings, events, advertisers’ specials, etc., plus we randomly post contests to win prizes and you wouldn’t want to miss that! Be safe on the roads this riding season and we’ll see ya soon! Ride Hard Live Free, Denise & Scott High

“STUCK ON STUPID” In Ge.25:21-34 we read about two twin brothers that didn’t get along even when they were in their mother’s womb; “And the children struggled together within her,” and when the first baby was born (Esau), the second baby (Jacob), “grabbed him by his heel.” As to say “not so fast brother.” God told the mother Rebekah: “There are two nations in thy womb, one will be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger.” The father, Isaac, favored the eldest son because he was the first born and the mother favored the youngest because of what God had said. Esau comes home from a hunt very hungry and Jacob was cooking up some stew, smelling up the house with it and setting up Esau. Esau asked for the stew to eat and Jacob makes a deal for Esau to sell his Birthright to him for a bowl of stew and he does. Now this sounds like Jacob tricked Esau out of his birthright, but not so. Evidently, Esau had a history of making “Stupid decisions” and it doesn’t take much to set up “stupid.” Even Esau’s mother knew he had issues, similar to a biblical Forest Gump. “After he did eat and drink, and rose up and went his way, he despised his birthright.” He placed very little value on his birthright. He was “Stuck on Stupid.” As Christians we have a Covenant with Almighty God and we also have a birthright to healing, deliverance, prosperity, peace and joy. Yet some have traded their birthright for a bowl of beans. We stay out of the house of God, stay out of the Word of God, stay out of prayer, but we give our flesh anything it wants when it wants it and won’t give God what He asked for. We know the Word of God works, we just choose not to work it because we are “Stuck on Stupid.” Making the same mistakes over and over expecting different results. Heb.12:17 “For ye know how afterward when he (Esau) would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” Man is moved by tears, God is not. God is only moved by His Word. I have seen so many people become Christians April 2018
and start working the Word, God gives them their life back, they now own homes, cars, motorcycles, got good jobs, and their families have been restored. Then they slack off and start to miss Church more and more. They get too busy to serve the God that brought them out and now they lost all they had. They come back to Church crying for repentance, but what are the tears for? Are the tears for the stuff they lost or for the God they rejected? Esau’s tears was for the stuff he lost and not for the God he rejected. That’s why he “found no place of repentance.” Repentance does not come from emotions, repentance means to change your mind and change your direction. Tears may move the Pastor, your parents, your loved ones and some of your friends, but it won’t move God. Only His Word will. So change your mind and your direction and watch God restore you! Watch out for those that are lying & crying at the same time. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Arabella - is a gray tabby Manx. She has the cutest nub of a tail. Her yellow green eyes are so round and curious. She is independent and a little shy around people, but does well with other cats.
Avery & Avan aka Little Guy - This father and son duo share a special bond. They never venture far from one another’s side, so we would like for them to find their forever home together. Avery and Avan play and cuddle with each other, so you already have built in kitten entertainment! Avery is affectionate and will meet you at the door the second you come home. He loves being petted and reaches out when you stop for more loving. Avan needs a little patience, but his purr sounds like a motor boat once he gets started. Both boys love to play with toys and cuddle in bed. Avan especially loves to play fetch with toys. Belle - is a sweet young girl with a lot to say! She is the queen of belly rubs and is always down for a good cuddle session in bed. Keep your toes out of sight if you don’t want them to be squeaky clean, cause this silly girl loves to lick! She’s very classy and will always make an appearance even in the biggest of crowds. She is good with small children and other cats. Belle would make the perfect addition to any family looking for a chill and loving lady! Charlie - The 3 words that would best describe me are loving, playful and charming!! I am the sweetest cat you will ever meet and I love to be held and petted. I would love a home with other friendly cats and I’m great with children. I’m a 3 year old, neutered male who is litter box trained and I’m looking for a furever home after my previous family had to move and couldn’t keep me. If you’re looking for an amazing companion for you and your family, I’d be the purrrrfect fit!!!!
Joni - is a sweet beautiful fluffy girl. She is a long haired diluted calico and is a pleasure to have around. She is loving, affectionate, and great with other cats and dogs. Pictures don’t do this gorgeous girl justice. Please apply today to make this beauty all yours. Phoebe - came into rescue pregnant with a litter of kittens and very afraid of humans. We soon discovered she would need an emergency c-section to deliver her babies because she had a crushed pelvis. Either from abuse or being hit by a car. Her pelvis is healed, although not in the correct position. She doesn’t have any lasting problems other than some difficulty jumping high. She is now a loving, sweet young cat who loves to be around her foster family. She is always checking to see where everyone is, and prefers to hang out with the family. She has excellent litter box manners and will be a sweet addition to any home.

GETTING A HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT IN TENNESSEE If you are a regular reader of this column, you probably have, or have investigated getting, a handgun carry permit. Carrying a firearm is a great responsibility, but it is also your right to protect yourself and those you love. If you do not have a permit to legally carry a firearm we will outline the steps involved in applying for one. This is only an outline, please do your own research before you apply. From TN Gov: The citizens of the state of Tennessee have the right to keep and bear arms for their common defense; but the General Assembly has the power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime. Any resident of Tennessee who has reached twenty-one (21) years of age, or is at least eighteen (18) years of age and is an honorably discharged or a retired veteran of the United States Armed Forces, or is a member of the United States Armed Forces on active duty status, and includes with the application a certified copy of the applicant’s certificate of release or discharge from active duty, DD214 or includes with the application a military identification card as proof that the applicant is an active duty member of the military, may apply to the Department of Safety for a handgun permit. If the applicant is not prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm in this state pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. §39-17-316 or 39-171307(b), 18 U.S.C. 9 (g) or any other state or federal law and the applicant otherwise meets all of the requirements, the Department of Safety shall issue a permit to the applicant. Tennessee is a shall issue state, which means if you meet all the criteria noted above, and you complete all the steps in the process including the background check you will be issued a Handgun Carry Permit. The first step is to complete a Tennessee Department of Safety Approved Handgun Safety Course such as the courses offered by our Bullet Points page sponsor, Tennessee Gun Country. These courses are at least 8 hours, with 4 hours of the course in the classroom and 4 hours of range time. It’s usually a good idea to bring paper and pencil to take notes. If you have a firearm you wish to certify with and you aren’t sure if it qualifies, check with your instructor to make sure it meets his or her
April 2018
safety standards. Some places, like Tennessee Gun Country, can rent you a gun for the course. You will also need 50 rounds of ammunition for your firearm, even if it’s rented, along with eye and ear protection which can also be rented or sometimes will be provided. Remember, if you bring your gun, leave it unloaded in your vehicle until you are told to bring it in and have a holster or case to carry it in. These courses are offered by instructors and gun shops across the state. You must pass both the written and marksmanship test to receive your proof of completion, and you must have current (within 12 months) proof of completion of the course for the next step. There are exceptions for law enforcement, licensed armed guards and military. Next you must fill out the application which can be picked up at any driver testing center, fill it out completely and have certified proof of U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent residency (no photocopies). This can be a birth certificate, passport, proof of citizenship, proof of naturalization, etc. Next you must take the completed application, course certificate, and proof of citizenship to any full-service Driver License Service Center location. You must have a photo ID to file your application and you must pay the non-refundable application fee by cash, certified check, or money order. When you submit your application at the Driver License Service Center they will provide you with information to be fingerprinted in your area. You will call the provided number and make an appointment to have your fingerprints taken, they will be scanned electronically by an approved finger printer. It is sometimes possible to get an appointment the same day, but be prepared to wait up to 3 weeks depending on your location. After you are fingerprinted they will conduct a thorough background check and within 90 days of completion of your background check you will receive your permit. Currently the application fee is $100 and permits are valid for 8 years. You may, at the time of application or when you renew, pay an additional $200 for a lifetime permit. This may or may not be a good deal for you, the current renewal fee is $50 so it takes 32 years for the lifetime permit to equal renewing every 8 years. Always practice and never take your right to protect yourself for granted.

IN THE NEWS Indian Motorcycle, Jack Daniel’s and Klock Werks Kustom Cycles Honor First Responders with Limited Edition Scout Bobber Blacked Out & Stripped Down – the Jack Daniel’s® Limited Edition Indian® Scout® Bobber Boasts UltraPremium Design Features Modeled After Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade. Minneapolis, MN (March 7, 2018) – Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, and Jack Daniel’s, America’s first registered distillery, today introduced the Jack Daniel’s® Limited Edition Indian® Scout® Bobber. For the third straight year, the two iconic American brands have joined forces with Klock Werks Kustom Cycles of Mitchell, SD to celebrate their shared values with an ultra-premium, limitededition motorcycle. This year, they looked to the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade and their impressive gold-and-black firetrucks for design inspiration. Jack Daniel’s® is the only distillery in the world with its own fire brigade, which is staffed entirely by employee volunteers. The Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade is an impressive showcase of the company’s commitment to quality and a remarkable symbol for the passion and dedication shared by Jack Daniel’s employees. The employees at Indian Motorcycle share that same passion for their craft and developed this bike as a tribute to the people who are committed to keeping their communities safe, the state-certified firefighters of Jack Daniel’s, as well as firefighters and EMS professionals everywhere. The Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Indian Scout Bobber maintains the low-slung, blacked-out and stripped-down attitude of the Scout Bobber, but also boasts several ultra-premium, custom features that create a truly unique motorcycle. As a nod to the “Old No. 7 Brand”, only 177 of these bikes will be built globally, making anyone who owns one a member of an extremely exclusive club. “Our partnership with Jack Daniel’s celebrates American craftsmanship of the highest order,” said Steve Menneto, President – Indian Motorcycle. “This year’s limited-edition bike draws inspiration from the incredible story of Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade, while honoring the passion and dedication of firefighters and emergency medical responders who serve our country.” Each of the 177 individually-numbered motorcycles are accented with Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade themes. The bike has subtle twotone matte black paint, a first for Indian Motorcycle, and is covered in real 24-karat gold graphics on the tank and fenders. The 24-karat gold carries through to the Fire Brigade emblem on the tank and the “Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix” emblem on the front fender. Other custom details include a perforated genuine leather seat with “Jack 12
Daniel’s” embroidery and custom grips, pegs, and shift levers inspired by the “Old No. 7 Brand.” Premium gloss black finishes on the fender struts, hand control levers, engine valve covers, and exhaust tips, while a gold colored Indian Scout badge further showcases the attention to detail given in the design of this limited-edition bike. Also unique is a one-of-a-kind Montana Silversmith badge that’s individually numbered and coated with real 24-karat gold. In addition to the bike’s custom accents, it also features chopped fenders, bar-end mirrors, vented exhaust shields, knobby tires and a sleek headlight nacelle. “The public’s response to the motorcycles that Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s have collaborated on has vastly exceeded our expectations year-over-year,” said Greg Luehrs, Director of Events and Sponsorships for Jack Daniel’s. “In celebration of this great partnership and our own Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade, we are delighted to deliver a bike that honors firefighters and EMS first responders while also reinforcing the message that ‘Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix.’” To celebrate the hard work, commitment, and bravery of all firefighters and EMS first responders, Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s are hosting a sweepstakes only open to these service members. Participants can enter to win bike #001 at a variety of events this year, including Daytona Bike Week (March 9-18), Fire Department Instructor’s Conference (April 23-28), Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (Aug. 3-12), and Red Knights Motorcycle Club International Convention (Aug. 16-19). The Jack Daniel’s® Limited Edition Indian® Scout® Bobber will be available globally for order starting 12 p.m. EST on March 13. To reserve one, visit or call an Indian Motorcycle dealership. The 2016 Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Indian Springfield and Chief Vintage models sold out in less than 8 hours, while the 2017 Jack Daniel’s Limited Edition Indian Chieftain sold out in less than 10 minutes. Each bike will come with a commemorative fireman’s axe, which will be engraved with the owner’s name, motorcycle number (#001#177) and VIN. Pricing starts at $16,999 in the U.S. and $20,999 in Canada. Each bike also comes with a two-year unlimited mileage factory warranty and free membership in the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group™ for one year. COOKEVILLE-PUTNAM COUNTY, TENNESSEE TO HOST THE WALL THAT HEALS
Only Tennessee Display of Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Wall That Heals, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, along with a mobile education center, will be in Cookeville-Putnam County, Tenn., April 19-22, 2018. As the only display in Tennessee, the exhibit is expected to welcome guests from across the Southeast, will be open 24 hours a day and is free to the public. The Wall That Heals honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed forces in the Vietnam War and bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Cookeville-Putnam County will be among the first to host a new, larger exhibit which includes a three-quarter scale Wall replica that is 375-feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. With the new replica at this size, visitors will be able to experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C. For the first time in the history of The Wall That Heals, visitors will be able to do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall. “We are honored to host this powerful exhibit in Tennessee as we remember each of these heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” Gov. Bill Haslam said. “This is even more special for Tennessee, as the first Vietnam casualty is actually from this region. Spec James Thomas “Tom” Davis is buried less than 20 miles from where the Wall will be on display.” Nine Putnam County residents are listed on the wall, and 65 from the Upper Cumberland region.
IN THE NEWS “We invite guests to pay their respects at the Wall, but to also take advantage of the opportunities to fulfill their patriotic notions by visiting Spec Davis’ grave and other veterans memorial points-of-interest in the Upper Cumberland, such as Alvin C. York State Historic Park, Putnam and Jackson County Veterans’ Halls, White County Veterans’ Memorial Park, and Crossville’s Military Memorial Museum,” said Porter. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is one of the most visited memorials in Washington, D.C., with more than 5.2 million visitors each year. However, many Americans have not been able to visit what has become known to many as “The Wall.” The Wall That Heals made its debut in 1996 and since then has been on display in nearly 600 U.S. communities in addition to an April 1999 tour of the Four Provinces of Ireland and a visit to Canada in 2005. Last year alone, more than 250,000 people visited The Wall That Heals. Hosting The Wall That Heals provides a community with a multi-day experience that includes an education for local schools and organizations on the history of the Vietnam era and The Wall. “We are thrilled to share the new The Wall That Heals exhibit with the public this year. Through The Wall That Heals, we are able to return the names home to communities across the country and allow Vietnam veterans and their family members who cannot make it to Washington, D.C. the opportunity to see The Wall. It gives communities a teaching moment for younger generations on why we should honor those who have served and sacrificed so much,” said Jim Knotts, president and CEO of Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Fund. The exhibit includes The Wall replica and a mobile education center comprised of: digital photo displays of “Hometown Heroes” - service members whose names are on The Wall that list their home of record within the area of a visit; digital photo displays of Vietnam veterans from the local area honored through VVMF’s In Memory program which honors veterans who returned home from Vietnam and later died as a result of their service; video displays that teach about the history and impact of The Wall and of the collection of items left at The Wall in D.C.; educational exhibits told through items in the collection; a map of Vietnam and a chronological overview of the Vietnam War. The Tennessee exhibit of The Wall That Heals and Mobile Education Center will be on display April 19-22, 2018 at the Putnam County Sports Complex at 497 Whiteaker Springs Rd. in Cookeville. This display has been made possible by financial support from: Putnam County Government, Averitt Express, First National Bank, 106.9 Kicks Country and Rock 93.7. Opportunities to support are still available.
“This opportunity to host such a tribute to our veterans is something that the community in Putnam County will always take For more information regarding schedule of events, pride in,” said Putnam County Executive Randy Porter. “We are sponsor/support opportunities, lodging discounts, etc., go known as a patriotic community, making this a natural fit to have to VisitCookevilleTN.com/TheWallThatHeals. the honor of hosting and paying respects to our Vietnam veterans.”

Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson Named #1 Dealership in the US for 2017 By Scott High In the mid 90’s, after a successful career in several businesses, Scott Maddux partnered with his father and turned a small company into a large one. After selling that business, Scott and his wife Monet, a successful businesswoman herself, set out to realize his longtime dream of opening a HarleyDavidson Dealership in his native Tennessee. They went through the process and were given approval but were informed the new shop was to be in the north central Kentucky area near Cincinnati. Committed to starting a new Harley shop, they went to Kentucky and put a contract on the property they wanted to build on. Before they closed on the deal for the property, he got wind that Harley was going to approve a new shop in Tennessee, so he checked in to it and asked if they could open the new shop in his home state. After receiving the go ahead, they headed to Maryville and found a building that used to house a Lowe’s store, bought it and started building the dream shop. The Lowe’s had a lumber shed next to the building and a lifelong

love of music led them to make it a music and event venue, The Shed Smokehouse and Juke Joint. That’s the (very) short version of how Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson came to be. Scott and Monet then began to assemble a team to help them build and run the shop, and in September 2004 Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson was born. Now, only 13 short years later, he and his team have been recognized by Harley-Davidson as the Number 1 Harley-Davidson Dealership in the United States for 2017 through the Motor Company’s Bar and Shield awards program. In February, the call came in from Harley-Davidson President and CEO Matt Levatich, Maddux, surrounded by the entire team at SMH-D took the call by speaker phone and the honor was announced to everyone. Every year Harley-Davidson dealerships earn points based on performance in several different areas. It’s a difficult task to be exceptional in every area, but the team at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson has done it, couple that with the great riding in the area and you have the recipe for one great dealership!

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: Over the past few weeks we have heard all about how guns are killing our children in schools and that this has gone on far too long. The Democrat/Communist party is happy to tell us we need to give up our guns to stop the carnage. They happily undercut the United States Constitution at every turn. Southern Democrats are the ones responsible for the whole gun control movement. They originally put it in place to keep guns out of the hands of blacks after the Civil War. It was their way of keeping control over former slaves. Over the last century they have twisted gun control to try and gain domination over our whole society and not just blacks. They have been successful at indoctrinating our children that government will take care of them and self-defense with a gun is bad. They teach our children that people who own guns are crazies who threaten the safety of good people. All of this on top of eradicating God from our schools, denigrating our founding fathers and working to do away with the constitution of the United States. They are quick to enact gun laws that have no impact on criminals in order to make law abiding citizens defenseless. It’s liberal’s and the teacher’s unions who tell us that we can’t adopt the same methods that have stopped airline hijacking and protect us at indoor entertainment events/sports stadiums. They say it will turn our schools into prisons. Aren’t kids required to go to school, stay there all day and be obedient? When I was a kid I thought that was prison! What’s wrong with wands and guards?? Wouldn’t it be a comfort to know that unauthorized people can’t get in and kids carrying illegal items are screened and stopped at the front door. It has worked since 9/11 but why isn’t it allowed at schools??? Where is the common sense? Why is political correctness preferred over stopping people who openly threaten a mass shooting? Dominik Cruz was known to the police, FBI and the school system but was being sheltered by an Obama Administration program that pays schools to show lower crime rates among minority students. It wasn’t that he wasn’t a problem it was that April 2018
they were happy to ignore bad behavior to get money from the federal government. Broward County even received a reward for their lower statistics!! What a sham. Does anyone remember the “Fast and Furious” Operation conducted by BATF? That was the program to allow the sale of guns to criminals connected with the drug cartels supposedly to track the cartels. The real purpose was to have proof for a friendly media to slam gun stores and institute more gun laws so liberals could continue to disarm the American public and insure complete control by government over a disarmed population. Our founding fathers knew what government would do if not constrained by a well written constitution that protected freedom for the citizens of America. Is it possible that the federal program called the “Promise Program,” that pays communities to under report minority youth crime is just a variation on the Fast and Furious program? Liberals will stop at nothing to gain dictatorial power over our population and they continue to chip away at our constitution. Communism has failed every time it’s been tried. Communist movements around the world have killed millions of people to gain and hold onto power. Do we think the communists who run the Democrat party will be any different if they are successful at doing away with the U.S. Constitution? I spent 20 years in the United States Army trying to protect America from Communists. Now they are here and working to take over. Indoctrinating youth is a key piece of their puzzle. Why anyone who is remotely capable of homeschooling their children isn’t pulling their kids out of the indoctrination centers we call public schools makes my head spin. Our problems begin with liberal policies that empower government and take freedom away from common citizens. We need to follow the constitution as written, stop career politicians and provide for our own safety. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. SUPER SIMPLE OPEN-FACE QUESADILLAS Pkg. of Large Flour Tortillas Pound of Ground Chuck; browned well Small Onion; chopped medium Small Yellow Pepper; chopped medium Bag of Mexican Cheese Blend Can of Sliced Black Olives 1 Can of Mild Green Chilies 1 Tub of Whipped Philly Crème Cheese Brown your ground chuck and drain; put aside. Take a dab of any kind of cooking oil and put tsp. into a medium hot pan and add a tortilla getting it browned well and crisp on each side. Each tortilla makes apprx. 12 smaller triangles so plan ahead how many you want and adjust your other ingredients. Remove to paper towels and let cool. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put your tortilla on a flat round pizza pan and smear whipped crème cheese all over it. Next add browned ground chuck, then layer w/ all the toppings, lots of cheese and cook in oven for 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly. Remove and cut w/ a pizza wheel and serve w/ sour cream. For chicken ones use a large can of chunk chicken (remove broth), or chop up leftover roast chicken and mix it into the Philly whipped crème cheese and add toppings. I make them either way and they’re both truly easy & good.
JOE-JOE’s CARIBBEAN SHRIMP ON THE GRILL 100 Count of XXL already cooked & shelled, with tail on, frozen shrimp 2 Sticks of Melted Butter Extra Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil 1/2 Jar of Caribbean Jerk Seasoning (McCormick or other, in spice aisle) 1/2 Jar of Roasted Garlic & Bell Pepper Triple up your aluminum foil and shape it like a boat. In a bowl, mix up your melted butter with your frozen
shrimp and all your seasonings. Salt & Pepper taste. Carefully pour into boat; fold down top and fold in sides. Place on platter to take to grill and gently slide off of platter and onto hot grill. These cook literally in apprx. 4 minutes. It only takes the shrimp to unthaw and absorb the mix. Remove from grill, again, gently onto a platter and turn down top foil gently. Leave side foil rolled up. This is our son Joey’s recipe, and we cooked 200 and they were G O N E in about 10 minutes! So easy, yet so delicious. Try this.....and you can also do this same ingredients and method to cook frozen corn on the cob, or fresh corn. It truly soaks up all the butter and spices and is fabulous! If you wanted to do a large batch of shrimp or corn, just get those throw-away aluminum high-sided pans at any grocery store.

TWIN PEAKS UPDATE On the eve of a Feb 7 hearing at which two Twin Peaks shootout bikers were seeking to disqualify McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna from prosecuting their cases, on a variety of grounds, Reyna instead dismissed one of those cases and recused his office in the other to avoid the disqualification hearing. Subsequently, Reyna announced on Feb 28 that he’s seeking the dismissal of cases against 13 more bikers indicted for engaging in organized crime in connection with the deadly melee in Waco nearly three years ago, and dropping charges against 24 others who weren’t indicted. Also, in early February, 73 indicted bikers had their cases dismissed, and eight unindicted bikers had their charges dropped. Only one of the scores of bikers indicted in the shootout has gone 30
on trial; Jacob Carrizal, President of the Dallas Bandidos chapter, whose trial on RICO and murder charges ended with the judge declaring a mistrial in November after a hung jury was unable to reach a verdict. The May 17, 2015 shootout Ieft nine bikers dead and 20 more injured. Police arrested 177 bikers after the incident, all of whom were charged with engaging in organized crime and all of whom were initially ordered held in lieu of $1 million bonds. DA Reyna has been highly criticized for his handling of the cases, and recently lost his re-election bid.
TRADE WAR COULD IMPACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of tariffs on steel and aluminum would likely lead to global retaliatory consequences for iconic American industries such as Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Levis jeans and whiskey. In response to Trump’s announcement of his intention to impose tariffs of 25% on imported steel and 10% on aluminum to reduce an $800 billion trade deficit and protect the interests of American workers, European Union leaders threatened to target quintessential American goods such as blue jeans, bourbon and motorcycles. H-D could suffer from a negative two-pronged effect from the tariffs on steel and aluminum; the costs of production will rise, causing the cost of the bikes themselves to increase; both of which would be passed along to the consumer. “A punitive, retaliatory tariff on Harley-Davidson motorcycles in any market would have a significant impact on our sales, our dealers, their suppliers and our customers in those markets,” say HarleyDavidson officials. Roughly 16% of Harley-Davidson’s sales are to Europe, representing more than half of its international sales. American-made Polaris is not as concerned because 50% of its sales are made to Canada where, like Mexico, the country would be exempt from the tariffs, so no retaliation is expected. The U.S. has previously threatened to hike import duties up to 100% on European motorcycles in response to an EU ban on American bred beef from cattle raised on growth hormones. HONDA ‘RIDING ASSIST’ SYSTEM COULD ADVANCE MOTORCYCLING New patent images give a glimpse of Honda’s self-balancing technology that could be seen as a significant step forward for motorcycling. Although unthinkable until recently, the growth of automated systems such as traction control, stability control and anti-lock braking systems could soon lead to a bike that is virtually impossible to crash. That could be a massive step for motorcycling and its acceptance on a wider scale, as most non-riders would cite the perceived risk as their number one concern. Honda’s Riding Assist system, which adds a computer-controlled steering system between the bars and the front wheel, is the next step. Modern bikes can already intervene in your application of the throttle and brakes, but to really save us from ourselves they need to be able to override the stupidest of our steering mistakes as well. “If a novice could jump on a bike with zero fear of toppling off it, even if they come to a halt without putting a foot down, then it becomes as user-friendly as a car while offering all the congestion-

While the new designs patents, just published on the European Union Intellectual Property Office website, shouldn’t be taken as evidence that the Riding Assist system is going to go into production anytime soon, they provide a fascinating glimpse into one of the most radical projects in motorcycling at the moment. RIDERS RISK PERMANENT HEARING DAMAGE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS Motorcyclists are at risk of permanently damaging their hearing after just 15 minutes of riding at 62mph, seven minutes at 74mph or three minutes at 87mph, research has found. The study, carried out by Germany’s automobile association, ADAC, has shown that riding a motorbike at 62mph typically generates a wind noise of 95dB, which can permanently damage hearing after a quarter of an hour. At 74mph, the wind noise can be expected to reach 98dB, which will prove harmful after just seven minutes of exposure. Motorcyclists who regularly ride at highway speeds without earplugs are at risk of Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL), which can occur when exposed to long or repeated sounds 85dB or above. Prolonged exposure could result in tinnitus, a form of permanent ringing in the ears. Helmets don’t help, and it isn’t the sound of the motorcycle causing all the noise; “It’s the wind noise that can cause permanent hearing loss,” explains Ohio A.I.M. Attorney Ralph Buss, who has represented a client who was ticketed for wearing earplugs. Using earplugs in Ohio while operating a vehicle has been illegal since 1989 and the law, which was enacted largely in response to stereo headphones in cars, doesn’t allow earplugs to be worn by motorcyclists or motorists. That may soon change if ABATE of Ohio has its way, as legislation has been introduced to permit motorcyclists to wear earplugs for hearing protection. HB548 was introduced on March 13 by Representative Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) and would add motorcycle riders to a short list of mostly emergency personnel who are exempted from the law. Similarly, a law in California allowed only for “custom earplugs,” but was amended in 2004 to allow individuals to wear earplugs that don’t block the sounds of horns or emergency sirens. ALOHA FREEDOM OF CHOICE April 2018
Resolutions have been introduced in the Hawaii legislature on March 1st “Urging the Department of Transportation to submit legislation for a universal helmet law in Hawaii requiring all operators and riders of motorcycles, motor scooters, mopeds and bicycles to wear safety helmets.” The partisan Democratic measures, House Resolution 41 and House Concurrent Resolution 53, call for the DOT to expedite implementation of its strategic goal for motorcycle, motor scooter, and moped safety by submitting legislation for a universal helmet law by the Regular Session of 2019. Both await consideration in the House Transportation Committee. The Aloha State is currently one of 31 states that allow adult riders to choose to wear a helmet, with 19 states requiring all motorcyclists to wear approved headgear. CALIFORNIA INTRODUCES ANTI-PROFILING BILL Anti-profiling legislation, Assembly Bill No. 2972, has been introduced in the California legislature to define the term “motorcycle profiling” and prohibit peace officers from engaging in motorcycle profiling. Introduced February 16, 2018 by Assemblymember Anna Marie Caballero (D-Salinas), AB2972 would define the term “motorcycle profiling” as the illegal consideration of the fact that a person is riding a motorcycle or wearing motorcycle or motorcycle club-related clothing as a factor in law enforcement decisions. Further, the bill stipulates that “A person who has been subjected to motorcycle profiling in violation of this section has a private right of action to enjoin that action and to seek damages, including punitive damages and reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs, against the peace officer and the employing agency of the peace officer.” Several other states have considered bills to prohibit profiling motorcyclists, but Washington became the first state to pass such a law in 2011, followed more recently by Maryland in 2016. In addition, two bills in Congress seek to end profiling of motorcycle riders on the federal level; H.Res.318 and S.Res.154 -- “Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encouraging collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling.” QUOTABLE QUOTE: “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” ~ Warren Buffet, Investor and Philanthropist

There are two statues in a park; one of a nude man and one of a nude woman, posed to elegantly cover their privates. They had been facing each other across a pathway for a hundred years, when one day an angel comes down from the sky and, with a single gesture, brings the two to life. The angel tells them, ‘As a reward for being so patient through a hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty minutes to do what you’ve wished to do the most.’ He looks at her, she looks at him, and they go running behind the shrubbery. The angel waits patiently as the bushes rustle and giggling ensues. After fifteen minutes, the two return, out of breath and laughing. The angel tells them, ‘Um, you have fifteen minutes left, would you care to go again?’ He asks her ‘Shall we?’ She eagerly replies, ‘Oh, yes, let’s! But let’s change positions. This time, I’ll hold the pigeon down while you crap on its’ head.’ --------------------------------------------------------------------A biker couple, just married during Bike Week, were in their honeymoon suite on their wedding night. As they undressed for bed, the husband, who was a big burly man, tossed his pants to his hot bride and said, “Here, put these on.” She put them on, and the waist was twice the size of her body. “I can’t wear your pants,” she said. “That’s right!!” said the husband, “and don’t you forget it. I’m the man who wears the pants in this family!” With that she flipped him her panties and said, “Try these on.” He tried them on and found he could only get them on as far as his kneecaps. He said, “Hell, I can’t get into your panties!” She said, “That’s absolutely right, and that’s the way it’s going to be until you adjust your attitude, big boy.” --------------------------------------------------------------------A man boards a plane with six kids. After they get settled in their seats, a woman sitting across the aisle leans over to him and asks, “Are all of those kids yours?” He looks bewildered at her and replies, “No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.” 34
A man and woman were having a quiet, romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands. The waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the woman slowly sliding down her chair, under the table and under the table cloth but the man stared straight ahead. The waitress watched as the woman slid all the way down her chair and totally out of sight under the tablecloth. Still, the man stared straight ahead. The waitress, thinking this behavior a bit risqué and worried that it might offend other diners, went over to the table and, tactfully, began by saying to the man, “Pardon me sir, but I think your wife just slid under the table.” The man calmly looked up at her and said, “No she didn’t, she just walked in.” --------------------------------------------------------------------A teacher asks the kids in her 5th grade class: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Little Johnny says: “I wanna’ start out as a Fighter Pilot, then be a billionaire, go to the most expensive clubs, find me the finest ho’ money can buy, give her a Ferrari worth over a million bucks, an apartment in Copacabana, a mansion in Paris, a jet to travel throughout Europe, a no-limit Visa Platinum, and all the while...banging her like a screen door in a hurricane.” The teacher, shocked and not knowing what to do with this horrible response decides not to acknowledge what he said and simply continue with the lesson. “Alright then, and how about you, Sarah?” “I wanna’ be Johnny’s ho’”. --------------------------------------------------------------------A Doctor asks his patient; whom is a pregnant prostitute, “Well, do you know who the father is?” Prostitute looks at the Doc and very exhaustedly replies, “Oh, for goodness sake, if you ate a can of beans, would you know which one made you fart?.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------
