It’s the most wonderful time of the year, or is it? For many, the holidays are a time of joy. But for many this time of year is anything but merry and bright. For people who have lost someone close to them, this time of year can evoke a sense of loneliness and isolation. Many face financial crunches figuring out how to both pay for bills and gifts for family and friends. Others can’t handle the effects of dealing with difficult family members at gatherings. And all of these emotions can be compounded by the effect of shorter days and longer nights. For them, the holiday season exacerbates their depression. This week is the beginning of another holiday season and I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas, but please keep a particular group in mind, those who suffer from depression. What’s the happiest time of year for us is often the saddest, loneliest, most difficult time for them. Let’s take time out of our busy and hectic schedules of shopping, cooking and celebrating and be on the lookout for these folks. You never know, you might just save a life. On a brighter note, I hope you had the chance to participate in one of the many toy runs last month. We did and it sure feels good to see communities come together to help families who are in need so they don’t worry about the financial burden of the holidays, it’s a burden taken off of their back. Limited Redemption Rom 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore brethren (by this word we know he is addressing Christians) by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God (implying that your body is not yet redeemed). And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Implying that your mind also has not been redeemed. Here we can see our trinity; brethren=spirit/body=physical body/mind=soul. By this we understand that our spirit has been redeemed, our body will be redeemed and our mind is being redeemed. This is why born again Christians still sin and have old bad thoughts! Before you became a Christian, you were part of the sinful world system and after living all those years in that world system, you became “conformed to the world.” Even after your conversion, your “mind” could still remember that old lifestyle and your “body” still craved the things you use to do. Because this scripture has not been properly taught, those new born Christians that still have some of the same old thoughts and desires and may think that their not saved at all, or, that it just didn’t take for them Then doubt and unbelief comes in. But don’t forget the most important part of this scripture, “To be transformed.” This is a work in progress. You are saved but it takes time from being “conformed to this world to being transformed.” God’s Word now tells you how to be “Transformed” and it is done “By the renewing of your mind.” What & how you think determines your reality. Whether it’s your job, your marriage, church or friends, people are a reflection of how you think about yourself. All of us have been “Conformed” to our old way of life, but we can be “Transformed by the renewing of our mind” to this new way of life. The best example are the Children DECEMBER 2016

of Israel in the Book of Exodus. They had been in slavery for 400 years and even though they were God’s people, after 400 years, they thought like Egyptians, ate like Egyptians and talked like Egyptians. They were freed by the “Passover” where they placed “the blood of a lamb on their doorpost, and the death angel passed them by.” They even saw Pharaoh and his army destroyed when they tried to cross the Red Sea. Even though they had been freed “By the blood,” they had been conformed to the world.” They even complained to God about the taste of mana (God’s bread) and wanted the spices of Egypt. We Christians today have developed a taste for the things of the world and we chose the “spices” over what God has given us to survive our wilderness experience. They were redeemed by the blood of an animal, we have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, but like them, we still have a taste for the spices of the world. They also took the gold that God had given them and made an image of a golden calf to worship, instead of God, because the Egyptians worshiped cows. Lady Rider

Patricia Edwards My name is Kayci Eads, my mom is Patricia Edwards and in 2008 my uncle Joey was killed on his motorcycle by a drunk driver. It really hit mom hard, he was her everything. She use to tell stories of riding with uncle Joey on his 49 pan head, they would ride for 30 minutes and work on it for an hour, she loved to ride with Joey. As a young lady she had a Yamaha special edition, she loved that motorcycle but one day our house burned, we lost everything but mom was strong, she pulled herself up and worked 2 sometime 3 jobs to raise us kids, all 4 of us. We didn’t have a lot, but mom always took care of it somehow. Before Joey found the Lord he would show up at 2 or 3 in the morning, mom would get up and cook for him. When she lost Joey she was devastated and she didn’t know what to do, he wanted so badly for her and my step dad to ride with him. Well, that was in 2008 in the summer of 2009, mom came riding up the driveway on a brand new black Harley with that smile on her face that I remembered. My mom is the toughest lady I know, she rides in every ride she can for all charities, but the one she is most passionate about is the cancer rides. In 2011 after the birth of my first child, mom and my step Dad wanted to go see his mom, so what did mom say but “lets ride 550 miles”. Later they were in North Carolina, while we were there she said let go ride the dragon, US 129, so now my mom is a dragon slayer, my hero. See mom has beat cancer twice with the Lord’s help and a lot of prayers, now we are all praying that she beats it again. She won’t let it get her down, she says “I’ve got 16 grand kids that need me”. That’s my mom, always putting herself last and thinking of others first. That’s our mom! Mom, we love you and always ride free. Love Kaci, Trisha, Joey, and Mikey. You’re our hero! From Randy Edwards: 10 years ago I met my soul mate when I was in a very bad place in my life, she accepted me for who I was and has never wavered from that. She was there for me at the lowest time of my life and through all that, she stood by my side and told me she loves me, so for all she’s done I’d like to tell people “she saved my life”. My wife, next to my late mother is the greatest woman I know and best of all she loves to ride! To know her is to love her, and she never meets a stranger! We would love to hear YOUR story! 2017 Southern Backroads H.O.G. Rally Harley-Davidson has discontinued holding State H.O.G. Rallies. Not to worry, they have replaced them with a few regional rallies. Cookeville TN, the home of three very successful Tennessee state rallies, was selected for the Southern Backroads Rally, on July 11-15, 2017. The host hotel will be the Holiday Inn Express, near the rally site, but there are several other hotels close by. Room blocks will open up at all participating hotels at noon on January 1 and will fill up fast. Plan your trip now and be ready to reserve a room. The Rally Committee consists of veteran H.O.G. event planners, who produced the 2012, 2014, and 2015 events in Cookeville. Past rallies here are well known for great music, beautiful riding opportunities, AMA Hillclimb, contests, surprise opportunities, and participation by dealers and the City of Cookeville. Once again, at this rally, the HOGs will be treated to an AMA Pro Hillclimb. Follow Southern Backroads HOG Rally on Facebook and in Thunder Roads Magazine Tennessee, for future details. As a preview, Judy and I joined Jim Leggett, a national freelance writer for several magazines, including Whisky Magazine and Rider Magazine, along with the Cookeville-Putnam County Convention & Visitors Bureau staff and Gary Bagwell, Rally Coordinator, for a tour of some of the attractions and rides in the area. On Wednesday, we arrived at the Country Inns and Suites and, after settling in, met the visitors bureau staff, including Zach Ledbetter, VP of Visitor Development, Molly Brown, Dir. of PR & Marketing, David Prowse, local H.O.G. Rally coordinator and Visitors Bureau Chairman, Marty Marbry, State Regional Tourism Manager, and Gary Bagwell, for a wonderful dinner at Father Tom’s Pub. Molly did a great job of setting up an amazing itinerary. On Thursday, we joined Molly and Gary for a beautiful 160 mile Wine to Water Ride, with stops at Cummins Falls, DelMonaco Winery, Stonehaus Winery, and Highland Manor, with a lunch stop for southern BBQ at Bubba’s BBQ. Not only did we visit the falls, voted a top 10 swimming hole by Travel and Leisure Magazine, but participated in the tastings available at the wineries. At Stonehaus, we had the privilege of talking with Fay Wheeler, “Grandfather of Tennessee Wine”, original co-owner of Tennessee’s first winery, Highland Manor. As a special treat, we visited Hard Times, USA, Pop 1, a private replica village, complete with buildings, including a church, Gulf Station, barber shop, bar, stores, and several others. This village is only open one day a year, but I’ll bet the rally participants will get to visit this unique facility. Following the beautiful ride, we dined at Anchor Down, one of Cookeville’s favorite eateries. On Friday, another great ride through the countryside on the Famous Falls Ride. This ride of 178 miles visits the 250 foot drop Burgess Falls, Great Falls, at the 883 acre Rock Island State Park, Falls Creek Falls State Park (with the highest falls in the southeastern US – 256 feet), and Ozone Falls (where scenes in Jungle Book were filmed). For dinner, we really enjoyed Char, followed by a stop Gearhead, to party with the locals. Both of the above rides will most likely be included in the rally and are featured year-round in the Carve the Cumberland Tennessee on theTwelve ride brochure, available at visitcookevilletn.com. They are good examples of the great riding opportunities in the Cookeville area. This is a scenic area with varying types of riding. Both guided and unguided rides will be offered. With so many biker unfriendly cities, Cookeville, including the police of the City, County and State, LOVE bikers. I have attended the state rallies held here and had Donut With A Cop, with coffee and a donut at the famous (and Judy’s favorite) Ralph’s Donuts. The officers participated in riding contests and escorted rides. Also, the experienced crew puts on one of the best rallies in the US. If you miss this rally, you will be making a huge mistake. Appleton H-D Eagle Toy Run with Billy Ray Cyrus

Thunder Roads Tennessee The Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade took place in downtown Clarksville on Saturday, Nov. 5th. This year’s Veterans Day parade theme was “Spend the Day with a Veteran.” Appleton Harley-Davidson’s event started with a group of bikes leaving the dealership at 8am and joining the Veterans Day Parade at 10am. Red, white, and blue boas were on sale for those participating in the parade. Proceeds went to Operation Home Front, which benefits the Holiday House at Fort Campbell. Special edition Eagle Toy Run shirts were also for sale. Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus made a special appearance in the Veterans Day Parade as a guest of Appleton Harley-Davidson to support Operation Home Front. Cyrus, along with WSMV’s own Demetria Kalodimos rode with a group of motorcyclists in the parade. Riders were asked to bring a toy or game for Operation Homefront’s toy drive, which provides gifts for Fort Campbell families during the holiday season. Following the parade, Appleton’s hosted an After Party where the riders enjoyed BBQ, fellowship, music by Decadent Nation while shooting footage for an upcoming music video, a USO Static Display, red, white and blue balloon drop and Cyrus performed his classic tribute to fallen soldiers, “Some Gave All” and many other songs. The local USO displayed a collection of vintage military uniforms and the Rolling Thunder Chapter presented a dedication to those who have been MIA or POW in each war. It was a beautiful day for a ride, with a huge turnout for a great cause.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

Good morning, friends. As I write this month’s Bullet Points column, Thanksgiving is right around the corner, most of the leaves are on the ground and there has been a hard frost. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve enjoyed a really great year of riding. But where has this year gone? It seems like it was just April and now we’re just a few short weeks away from a New Year! Speaking of time flying, how long has it been since you’ve been to the range or fired your defensive firearms? I am a firm believer that you must practice fundamental firearms usage on a regular basis if you expect to be able to rely on your skills during a “shithits-the-fan” moment. It is important that you have practiced enough that using your firearm defensively is largely driven by muscle memory. Here are some important objectives and goals of practice: 1. Is your firearm in good working order and well maintained? – Going to the range will provide you the opportunity to learn if your gun is in good working order and may uncover an underlying problem before it’s a life and death situation. 2. Can you easily draw your pistol from its holster with different shirts and jackets on? – Practice is the only way you will master drawing your pistol from its holster. Use a sweeping motion of your gun hand to swipe away your shirt/jacket, grab the grip of the pistol and with a deliberate motion, pull your gun out, bringing it to a “low ready” position. Make sure your trigger finger stays out of the trigger guard during the entire draw. It should not touch the trigger until you are ready to actually shoot. 3. Does your pistol operate smoothly and consistently? – While using low cost plated/full metal jacket ammunition makes sense when you are at the range, do not forget to practice with your hollow point personal protection ammo. Your pistol should not experience any fail-to-feeds (FTF) or fail to ejects (FTE) while you are firing defensive ammo. If it does, try cleaning and lubricating it first. If that does not work try a different brand of ammo. If the problem persists, take your pistol to a quality gunsmith. Rotate your defensive ammo on a regular basis – practicing with the older ammo first. This is important as every time you chamber a cartridge in the barrel, you may well be seating the bullet slightly deeper in the case. Over time, this can be dangerous as the cartridge overall length (COAL) determines the pressure which that ammo operates at. Too much pressure can lead to a catastrophic explosion of your firearm.

4. Make sure your practice sessions include shooting one handed and with both of your hands. In a shit-hits-the-fan moment

DECEMBER 2016

it is possible that your primary shooting hand/arm could be injured and you may well need to use one hand – and it may be your off hand. As part of this exercise, you should also practice changing magazines and racking your slide one handed – which is much harder than you might imagine. Use the front or rear sight to rack the slide, chambering a cartridge. Sights are designed to do this and any fixed object – including your belt or holster – can be used in conjunction with the sight to rack and charge your pistol.

5. While many people like to shoot at distant targets, do not underestimate how important it is to practice at normal defensive distances – 7 yards or less is where I do the majority of my practice. This is critical as the average defensive situation will involve shooting at five feet or less. While I concentrate on accuracy, hitting center mass consistently is what’s most important. 6. Do not spend all of your time shooting at paper targets. Most ranges do not let you practice your draw or move around while shooting. Spend some time shooting at paper, but also go to a tactical range where you can practice your draw and move around while shooting. If you take a friend with you, you can also time your draw and first shot so you can monitor your improvement over time. Not all practice includes firing your pistol. Dry fire practice is not only a good use of time, but it will improve your overall technique and trigger control. You can do this anytime. When you dry fire practice, move to a quiet room. Remove the magazine from your pistol and eject the round in the barrel. Double check this and then check it one more time. Make sure there is no round in the barrel! Then move all ammunition out of the room. (Am I being overly cautious? Yes! And you should be too.) I like to practice my draw while watching myself in a mirror. Aim at a fixed item and gently squeeze the trigger while watching your front sight. Your sight should remain on target and not move. Keep practicing. This will really improve your accuracy over time. Don’t forget to clean and lubricate your guns when you come home from the range. I clean my pistols every time I shoot them. Since you may need to rely on your firearm to save your life, practicing regularly and maintaining your guns is absolutely critical. Until next month, keep the shiny side up. Poker Run For W A Sartin As anyone who has been through it knows, a battle with cancer can cause serious financial, as well as physical hardship. A true fellow biker is currently fighting lung cancer, after a previous gall bladder cancer. WA Sartin sold tons of bikes during his long tenure with Bumpus Harley in Murfreesboro. After his retirement, WA continued to work on bikes. His passion, however, was the promotion of veteran’s issues and patriotic issues, especially those of MIA’s and POW’s. As President, he built Rolling Thunder TN Chap 1, from 6 members to a very active club, and successfully brought the traveling Viet Nam Memorial Wall to Murfreesboro. On October 29, Dewayne and Candice Haynes hosted a poker run to benefit WA, at their DC’s Country Kitchen in Murfreesboro. Approximately 100 bikes showed up for the event. Dewayne led the riders through some of the nicest back roads in the area, with stops at Southern Star Restaurant and Lounge, in Hoo Doo, between Manchester and Woodbury, and the 82 Market in Bell Buckle. We’ve ridden lots of roads in this area, but most of these were new to us. The Justified Club took on the often dangerous duty of road blocking. Returning to DC’’s, the Haynes donated burgers and trimmings, for sale, to the riders. Chad Green won the run prize of $830 and graciously returned it to WA’s fund. A silent auction had some really nice items. In addition, there were 50-50 tickets, t-shirt sales (sporting Cancer Sucks), sponsors, and donations. In all, the run raised about $6,500. 22nd Annual Boswell’s

Toy Parade

Promptly at 1 PM on November 5, over 1,000 participants fired up their bikes in the 22nd Annual Toy Run. Benefiting the Metro Police Charities, the event raised over $17,500, to support the Christmas Basket Program, Shop With a Cop, and the Andrew Jackson Youth Camp. In addition, police officers sold event t-shirts and lots of toys were donated. Included, in the proceeds, was over $2,200 from the bake sale alone. When it comes to helping kids, bikers know no limits. Participants came from many groups and as individuals. In addition to the various individuals and HOG Chapters, the Confederation of Clubs members rode, as a group, from the Outlaws Clubhouse, Pastor Ron brought his group in from Springfield, and the Iron Pigs and Blue Knights, represented the police clubs. Tommy, of the Outlaws, pointed out that this is the only day of the year when their club and the police work closely together. He urged the members to contribute heavily to help more people. Along for the ride, literally, were Nashville’s Mayor Megan Berry and her three sisters. Mayor Berry took her first ever motorcycle ride, on the back of Bubba Boswell’s Harley, and, by the looks of her smile, it won’t be her last. The toy run started in Centennial Park, rode down West End and Broadway (packed with admiring crowds), turned up Second Avenue, crossed the bridge, went around the stadium, and rode up Hermitage, down Fesslers to Boswell’s. Pretty neat to ride down Broadway, running lights, at 40-50 mph! At Boswell’s, the riders enjoyed music by Timbuk2, ate burgers and enjoyed the fellowship and a beverage or two. As a thank you to the participants, the Boswell HOG Chapters’ volunteers passed out Boswell’s Harley insulated mugs. They came in handy for the hot beverages early in the day, but by ride time it was t-shirts and cold drinks. It was a beautiful day for a ride for a great cause. SIMPLE, SUCCULENT, PERFECT, CHRISTMAS ROAST BEEF

Zest of one whole lemon (don’t zest too deep) 1 Clove of Garlic; minced

1 Beef Roast, any cut, any size

2 Cans of Artichoke Hearts; drained & rough chop

2 Cloves of Garlic; peeled and sliced (optional)

3/4 Bag of Chef-Style Shredded Parmesan cheese; divided up; 1/2 & then 1/4 for melting over top.

1 Stick of Real Butter; softened

1 8 oz. Tub of Sour Cream

Salt & Cracked Black Pepper to taste Let uncooked roast sit out on counter at room temperature for apprx. 45 mins. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place roast in a pan that you have lightly sprayed w/ either canned olive oil or butter spray. Take roast and make slits, up to 10 or so, distributed evenly all over roast, and slide a slice of garlic into slit. Next, rub butter all over your entire roast; generously, and salt & pepper all over roast. Place roast in pan, fat side up. Place meat in oven and set timer for 1 hour. DO NOT OPEN DOOR at any time for any reason. When timer goes off, turn the oven off and again, Do Not Open Door. Decide what your serving time will be and exactly 45 minutes before your serving time, turn the oven back on at 375 degrees. Cook roast for 25 more minutes and turn oven off. Remove roast, wrap immediately in foil and let it just sit for 15 minutes. Remove foil and slice according to thickness you desire. If you follow this recipe to the letter, your roast beef will always be perfect. Juicy, flavorful and tender. Holiday bliss!

ROAST BEEF GRAVY:

Take your pan that you cooked roast in and put it right onto stove on medium. Do this immediately after pulling roast and wrapping in foil. Sprinkle apprx. 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour generously all over the pan drippings. Start moving the mixture around and around pan immediately and mix in well with drippings until flour is thoroughly mixed in. Next, slowly add beef stock little by little and keep working into flour coated drippings. All total you’ll add apprx. a cup of beef stock. Salt & pepper to taste, add 1 large pat of butter and turn up heat, keep stirring constantly as gravy will start thickening up really fast when you turn up heat. As soon as it’s the desired thickness you want, turn off stove and pour gravy into a gravy boat. Delicious!

CREAMY ARTICHOKE & SPINACH DIP

7 cups of Spinach = equiv. of 5 boxes of frozen.

Thaw, place in clean dish towel and wring out good. If use fresh, barely blanch and still wring out good.

1 Cup of Mayonnaise 1 Tbl. of Louisiana Hot Sauce (or hot sauce of your preference) 1 Pinch of Nutmeg Salt & Cracked Black Pepper to taste In medium bowl mix all ingredients together. Pour into sprayed casserole dish. Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees. Last 5 mins., sprinkle remainder of Parmesan cheese on top to melt down. Serve hot w/ your fave chips. Incredible flavors!

HEAPING PLATTER OF LEMON DIPS

1 Pkg. of your favorite brand of Yellow Cake Mix 1 Pkg. of Instant Lemon Pudding Mix 4 Large Eggs 3/4 Cup of Vegetable Oil

Mix all together. Pour into pre-sprayed mini muffin pans; only half way for each muffin. Bake apprx. 12 mins. Turn out onto clean dish towel.

GLAZE FOR LEMON DIPS:

4 Heaping Cups of Confectioner’s Sugar 1/4 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice Zest from same lemon; all of it 4 Tbls. of Vegetable Oil 4 Tbls. of Warm Water

Mix all ingredients together well. Smoosh out any lumps. Pierce a fork into bottom of muffin and dip into glaze, be sure and coat well. Place on wire rack to harden and by the time your done w/ your last one, start at beginning and dip all over again. Let harden at least half-hour before serving. Serve with extra-creamy whipped cream or home-style vanilla ice-cream. These are always a huge hit every time!

Hi… My Name is Ronald Lacks out of Rinngold, Virginia and I am the proud owner of this 08 HD Softail Deluxe 105th Anniversary Bike. My wife and I found this bike in Myrtle Beach, SC last August 2015 and it was absolutely all stock. Over the past 14 months there’s not a lot that I haven’t done to it… I have put a 21” front DNA twisted spoke wheel and 16” inch DNA twisted spoke wheel on rear, 36” Sampson Fishtails, and 14” Harley Davidson Fat Chizzled Bars. Everywhere you can possible look is covered in chrome, my license plate even states “Kromin” on it. The seat is covered in alligator. This is my first Harley and man I absolutely love it. I have shown this bike in a lot of shows in the last year from Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and I have done real well. I clean on this bike a whole lot but I have this saying “It rides better clean”. My bike is very fun to ride and I enjoy it so much. I would like to thank several people for helping me so much along the way to make this bike the way it is today… Able Candy, Rick Saunders, Pete Jones, Dan Wiles, and Andruw Lacks. I know I have worried these guys to death but I appreciate you all’s advice and knowledge more than you know. I don’t ever plan on getting rid of my bike and I just want to thank each and every one and BE SAFE OUT THERE!! A husband and wife who worked for the circus went to an adoption agency. Social workers there raised doubts about their suitability. The couple produced photos of their 50-foot motor home, which was clean, well maintained and equipped with a beautiful bedroom for the child. The social workers raised concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple’s care. “We’ve arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin and computer skills.” The social workers expressed concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. “Our nanny is a certified expert in pediatric care, welfare, and diet. In addition, there are 17 other children who travel with their circus parents.” The social workers were finally satisfied. They asked, “What age child are you hoping to adopt?” “It doesn’t really matter, as long as the kid fits into the cannon. __________________________________________________________ The WalSmart Manager liked hiring Vets, but he had a particular problem with the oldest Vet he had ever hired and assigned as a door greeter. The old guy (as the Manager came to refer to him as) was beyond reproach at customer service, could tell all the customers where everything in the store was located, every customer gave the Old Guy the highest score possible on every survey, BUT! The old guy was 15 minutes late every morning. As he had hired many Veterans the Manager knew he would need to counsel the old guy. He called him back into the Manger Office and posed the problem. He knew the old guy had done at least 30 years in the Navy and this 15 minutes late every day stuff wouldn’t be tolerated no matter how good the old guy performed his duties. After the old guy explained that the 15 minutes in the morning was a work in progress, the Manager wanted to know what it was that the Navy people would say to him if he was 15 minutes late! The old guy deliberated over the WalSmart Manger’s direct question, pondered his measured response, then spoke softly. ........... Usually if I was delayed 15 minutes in the mourning the Navy people I meet would ask; “Would you like coffee Admiral? “ __________________________________________________________ A guy is at work one day when his buddy notices he is wearing an earring. The man walks up to him and says, “I didn’t know you were into earrings.” “Don’t make such a big deal, it’s only an earring,” he growls back. “So how long have you been wearing one?” “Ever since my wife found it in my truck.”

A store that sells new husbands has opened for Christmas where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates: You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to The Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads: Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids. ‘That’s nice,’ she thinks, ‘but I want more.’ So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads: Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking. ‘Wow,’ she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going. She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads: Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework. ‘Oh, mercy me!’ she exclaims, ‘I can hardly stand it!’ Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads: Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak & Sexual Prowess. She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 37,456,512 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at The Husband Store. Attention: To avoid gender bias charges, the store’s owner opened The Wife Store just across the street. The first floor has Wives That Love Sex. We’ve seen how fractured our society has become and also how our laws are being ignored, usurped and twisted for a variety of purposes. It has become increasingly obvious to me that thinking in depth is becoming a lost art and that looking for truth in spite of preconceived ideas is a personal trait that is being marginalized and lost. The perception that something is wrong showed in the election results. It struck me this year that in order to be a good actress or entertainer you have to accept any idea that is out there. It’s a part of developing the creative artistic mind. So how does being open to anything bestow wisdom to help guide society? If Lady WaWa has opened her mind to accept any idea in the pursuit of creativity does that somehow give her the wisdom to tell me what is good for me? Does it give her the knowledge and experience to tell society how best to guide itself to survive and flourish? I don’t think so. Should she receive reward for her creative music? If you like her music then yes but liking her music doesn’t logically transition into her being able to tell you to pay more taxes, how to defend our borders or whether radical Islamists are infiltrating our country. How did Hollywood get so much credibility to tell us how we should live our lives? Most celebrities are pampered, emotionally frail, self-interested and invested in popular leftist causes because it helps them create industry momentum for their careers. There really aren’t many entertainers who have any real experience with my world or the things I deal with on a daily basis. They are born of and are isolated in the artistic community and not of the communities we live in. So, what about broadcasters and weather people? Can anyone say today our news media is unbiased and gives just the facts of what has happened during the day? Not anymore. They are entertainers, who like the weather people, feel they have to say something to make us tune in with great anticipation of impending devastation. When I was growing up the visible example of politicized propaganda was Pravda. Pravda was the national news outlet of the Soviet Union DECEMBER 2016

and it reported what the government wanted it to report. The goal was to get the population to accept government dominance. Anyone who didn’t like what the government was doing was executed. Thank goodness we haven’t gotten to that point here yet but we have political correctness which is how truth tellers are executed by Hollywood, the media and the government. Even after they worked so hard to slant the news during this election cycle and were exposed for it they are still working hard to subvert the President elect by casting everything he does in a negative light. I’d take a biker over a celebrity any day of the week for a real and honest insight into what America needs for the future. Our government, the news media and “celebrities” are doing their best to fracture our society and pit us against each other. Twerking is not an indication of clear thinking or intelligence. They pit groups against groups so we won’t band together and take our country back from the communists, socialists and anarchists. Does only one color life matter? Really? Only one??? My hope for the future is that Americans of all colors, religions, economic status and political affiliation will understand how they are being manipulated by those who want to control us. If we the people will stop fighting each other and examine those who are telling us what to think I believe we’ll find truth and make better decisions for a better future. I love being a biker because there is a reality you have to recognize and deal with when riding a motorcycle. If you don’t deal with the realities, you can get hurt. When we Americans fail to plant our feet in reality we get hurt. Big government costs us our freedom, open borders put us at risk, government confiscating our money and giving it away makes us slaves and on and on. When I’m on the bike I have to keep my head on a swivel and anticipate what others are doing that may put me at risk. We Americans need to have a heavy skepticism and be willing to evaluate the world in three dimensions not just the two dimensions of social media, TV and MP3. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. American team rules off-road, wins International Six Days Enduro for first time in history U.S. rider Taylor Robert finishes as top individual PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The U.S. World Trophy Team dominated the 2016 International Six Days Enduro, the longestrunning team world championship in motorcycling, winning the ISDE World Trophy for the first time. Held in Navarra, Spain, on Oct. 11-16, it was the 91st running of the ISDE since the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme event was founded in 1913.

Photo by Steve Berkner, courtesy AMA. “This enormous accomplishment is historic and without question one of American motorcycling’s greatest competitive triumphs,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “On behalf of all AMA members, I congratulate the U.S. World Trophy Team, its support crew, sponsors and everyone who contributed to this exceptional performance.” The U.S. World Trophy Team defeated runner-up Great Britain by 3 minutes, 38.66 seconds, a lead accumulated over six days of racing. The U.S. team was led by Taylor Robert, who was the top individual rider at the event. Robert’s teammates were Kailub Russell, Thad DuVall and Layne Michael. “We finally got it done,” said U.S. ISDE Team Manager Antti Kallonen. “Not only did we win the world championship, but we also won the individual overall. All of our World Trophy Team guys did exactly as we had hoped. Taylor was phenomenal winning the overall. It’s just as special as last year when Ryan Sipes won the overall, except this year we also won the championship.” Robert and Russell raced KTM 350EXC-Fs in the E2 class. DuVall raced in the E3 class, and Michael competed in the E1 class. Both rode Husqvarnas. The U.S. Junior Trophy Team of Trevor Bollinger and brothers Grant and Steward Baylor also made the podium, finishing second after working their way up from a fourth-place finish on the first day to just 45.23 seconds behind the winning Swedish team. The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team of Tarah Gieger, Nicole Bradford and Rachel Gutish finished fourth. They were 32 minutes behind the winning Australian team, which claimed its fourth consecutive ISDE title. The United States had two teams make the podium in the club team division, which was won by an Italian team. The Trail Jesters, made up of Josh Toth, Ben Kelley and Jason Klammer, finished second, and the Eric Cleveland Memorial Team, made up of Jimmy Jarrett, Broc Hepler and Alex Dorsey, finished third in the team standings. Toth, who competed in C1, was the top individual rider among the 381 entrants in that division, winning by more than 2 mintues. Kelley won the C2 class, and Hepler finished third in the C3 class. This year’s ISDE was the first year for the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy. American Fred Hoess, competing on a 1986 WR250 Husqvarna, won the overall. “I rode here in Spain in 1985 on basically the same bike as I rode this year, and I’d have to say on Day 5, when we were riding in the mountains and I’d look up at the scenery and smell the two-stroke oil and the burning clutch plates, I’d swear just for a second I was back in Spain and it was 1985 again,” said Hoess, who had competed in 25 ISDEs prior to this year’s special vintage competition. Wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, the bluntspoken New York real estate mogul and television celebrity told the crowd about seeing large numbers of bikers at his campaign events, including a group called “Bikers For Trump” (www.BikersForTrump2016.com). Chris Cox, a biker from South Carolina who founded BFT, had met with The Donald who told him “we’re his favorite demographic.” Stressing his desire to strengthen the military and improve how veterans are treated, the Presidential-hopeful found a receptive audience. “I’m not a huge biker, I have to be honest with you, O.K.?” lamented Trump to the throng of motorcyclists gathered at the Lincoln Memorial last May, “I always liked the limo better.” “I don’t ride motorcycles,” the candidate told another biker at a Trump Rally in Ohio, “but if I’m elected, I’ll fix all the potholes”; and he’ll soon get the opportunity to make good on his campaign promise. On Tuesday, November 8, 2016 America voted Donald J. Trump to be the 45th President of the United States, and although he’s not a quintessential “motorcycle guy”, his running mate is. Vice President-elect Mike Pence is a motorcyclist himself and has participated in numerous charity rides in his home state of Indiana, where as governor he supported bikers’ rights and worked closely with ABATE of Indiana. DISTRACTED DRIVING LEADS TO BIGGEST SPIKE IN TRAFFIC DEATHS IN 50 YEARS When distracted driving entered the national consciousness a decade ago, the problem was mainly people who made calls or sent texts from their cell phones. The solution then was to introduce new technologies to keep drivers’ hands on the wheel. Innovations since then, such as car Wi-Fi and a host of new apps, have since led to a boom in internet usage in vehicles that safety experts now say is contributing to a surge in highway deaths. After steady declines over the last four decades, highway fatalities last year recorded the largest annual percentage in34

crease in 50 years, rising to the highest level since 2009, and the numbers so far this year are even worse. In just the first six months of 2016, highway deaths have already jumped 10.4%, to 17,775, from the comparable period of 2015, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The fatality rate for the first half of 2016 increased to 1.12 deaths per 100 million miles driven, up from 1.05 for the same period last year; but the number of miles travelled have only increased 3.5%. NHTSA says recent reports suggest this uptick in fatalities is due in part to increasing use of electronic devices leading to more distracted driving. Alarmed by these statistics, the New York Times reports that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has outlined a plan to work with the National Safety Council (NSC) and other advocacy groups to devise a “Road to Zero” strategy, with the ambitious goal of eliminating roadway fatalities within 30 years. A second, related effort would speed up the introduction of autonomous-driving technologies that many safety experts believe can potentially prevent accidents by removing distracted humans from the driving equation. A TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTION TO ETHANOL DEBATE None of the estimated 22 million motorcycles or ATVs in the United States are approved by the EPA to operate on ethanol blends higher than 10% (E-10), which can damage smaller engines when E-15 gas remaining in the fueling line at the pump is inadvertently introduced into the customer’s fuel system, so NHTSA’s resolution to this unwanted mixing is to require a 4-gallon minimum fuel purchase at blender pumps to adequately dilute the higher ethanol fuel. But a more technological solution was suggested recently during a podcast involving a representative of the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), a group that represents the Ethanol industry and advises the EPA on polices which decide how much of the different types of gasoline are made available at gas stations around the United States. During a discussion of ethanol-blended fuels on Clutch and Chrome’s ‘Another Motorcycle Podcast’ (www.clutchandchrome.podbean.com), “we learned (from Robert White of the RFA, a longtime motorcyclist) of a mechanical solution being developed that would prevent the accidental mixing of fuel by the very blender pumps at the heart of the minimum fuel purchase proposal.” The new solution, which is reportedly being developed outside of the ethanol industry and is currently in the patent process, would prevent any fuel from being stored in the fueling hose. This would allow for users to only pump the fuel they want, and prevent accidental misfueling. “Obviously, the product needs to come to market and make its way onto pumps at the different gas stations,” reports Clutch and Chrome, “but this opportunity appears to be the best solution for a difficult problem.”

“BAD BIKER” GUN TARGETS Motorcycle riders are being portrayed as “Bad Bikers” worth shooting at and aiming to kill by police and others in firearms training, as Baker Targets markets a target bearing the image of an outlaw on a motorcycle. “Bad bikers need to be terminated!,” advertises Baker Targets to the general public, highlighting red dots printed on the practice target that indicate “high value” shots to cause maximum damage to the bike and rider when shooting. The Florida-based target company quickly responded to an outcry from concerned motorcyclists by taking the “Bad Biker Targets” off their website and discontinued offering them for sale. MICHIGAN BILL INCREASES PENALTY FOR RIDING WITHOUT PROPER ENDORSEMENT Unlicensed riders in Michigan will face higher fines under legislation signed by Governor Rick Snyder on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. “This bill stiffens the penalty for operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement, helping to ensure both motorists and motorcyclists stay safer on Michigan’s roads,” Gov. Snyder said. House Bill 4651, sponsored by the late state Rep. Julie Plawecki (D-Dearborn Heights), increases the penalty for operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement on the operator’s driver’s license from $100 to $500. This is the first Public Act to bear the name of Rep. Plawecki, 54, who passed away in June from an apparent heart attack while hiking. The measure is now Public Act 318 of 2016. “HAVE A GOOD RIDE III” TO HELP REDUCE MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENTS IN CALIFORNIA As more Californians choose motorcycles for work, weekend getaways, and entertainment, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is increasing its focus to keep motorcyclists safe. The number of victims from motorcycle-involved collisions in DECEMBER 2016

CHP jurisdiction has increased every year since 2013, and to address this problem the CHP has implemented the “Have A Good Ride III” (HAGR III) program to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. From October 1, 2016, through September 30, 2017, the goal of the HAGR III grant is to reduce the number of motorcycle-involved fatal and injury collisions, and the number of victims of these collisions. “With a combination of grant-funded education and enforcement efforts, we strive to raise awareness and reinforce the concept of sharing the road in order to save lives,” CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. “In regions with higher numbers of motorcycle incidents, CHP officers will increase motorcycle safety enforcement operations. Motorcycle traffic safety education campaigns, including the “May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month” and a summer safety campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will be conducted at appropriate venues. LAYER UP AND DRINK UP THIS WINTER! One of my favorite roads is the Cherohala Skyway. My sweetheart and I try to ride the Skyway at least once a year. This year, it took us until late October to get there and I enjoyed it immensely. The Skyway winds through the Cherokee National Forest and connects Robbinsville, North Carolina with Tellico Plains, Tennessee. There are long sweeping curves with fabulous views and at the end of October there was little traffic. On our weekend ride, we experienced the weather beginning to change when we woke-up to cool morning temperatures followed by warm, sunny afternoons. I may not ride as much as a lot of bikers do during the winter. But, I still get out every possible chance I have. As most cold-weather riders, I rely on some personally tested practices and suggestions from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to ride comfortably when the chill is in the air. Layer Up! One of the most important things you can do in the winter is protect yourself from hypothermia. We often forget to factor in the wind chill. For example, if you are traveling at a speed of 60 MPH and the temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit, your skin will be exposed to a chilling effect of 25 degrees. Don’t forget that rain can greatly enhance wind chill. Thinking back to Dangers of Distraction from October’s Thunder Roads Tennessee, chilly fingers, nose, ears and toes can also be a distraction for the rider. Wind chill protection may include: • • • • • • •

Keep your neck warm by wearing a neck gaiter For head and neck warmth, try a balaclava Use thermal base layers under your pants and shirt Wear motorcycle overpants or leather chaps Heated gloves, jackets & vests can add extra warmth and coziness Toe warmers and winter socks for happy feet Winter textile or leather riding jacket

As the temperature warms up during the day, you can remove layers for riding comfort.

Drink Up! (Water that is.) It’s easy to remember to stay hydrated during the summer when you are hot and sweating. You should also be aware that your body could experience dehydration in the winter months as well. You may find the symptoms of dehydration to be more on the subtle side in the winter. The MSF lists these symptoms as dry mouth, cramps, dizziness and headache. To prevent winter dehydration, keep a bottle of water with you or plan an extra stop to hydrate. As always, riding safely starts with you! Prepare for cold weather riding by wearing the proper gear and staying hydrated.
