“WHO GOT THE KEYS” Rev. 1:18 “I am He that liveth, and was dead: and behold I am alive for evermore; and I have the keys of hell (Greek=grave) and of death.” 1 Cor.15:55 “O death where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” 1 Cor.15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gave us the victory through our Jesus Christ.” When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, he gave the power of the grave & death over to the devil, but when Jesus died on the cross, He got these keys back. Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” It’s what we don’t know that is killing us. PS.82:5 “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk in darkness.” Too many Christians today never grow up spiritually, they remain spiritual babies all their lives. All they ever learn is “Jesus loves me, this I know.” If they don’t Know the deep things of God, they can’t Understand the deep things of God and they walk in darkness. This is why we have such a fear of death and the grave, we let the devil talk us into dying. We let the doctors talk us into sickness when “We have been redeemed from the curse of the law.” Heb.2:14-15 “… that through death He (Jesus) might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil; and deliver them (us) who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bandage.” 1 Cor.15:20-26 “Now is Christ risen from the dead and became firstfruits of them that slept… He (Jesus) shall have put down all rule and all authority and power… He (Jesus) has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” Mat.28:18 “All power has been given unto me (Jesus) June 2017
in heaven and in the earth.” PS. 91:16 “With longlife will I satisfy him (us) and show him my salvation.” Longlife is a covenant promise from God to His people. Jesus now has the keys to the grave and death. But we can die young by poisoning our bodies with substance abuse, by believing the report of the world over the report of the Lord, or by letting the devil talk us into death. Jer.29:11 “I (God) know the thoughts I think towards you, thoughts of peace and not evil.” The grave is not peaceful and death is evil, so these are not thoughts that God has towards you! Luke 10:19 “Behold I give unto you power to tread (to master) on serpents and scorpions (demons) and all power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” We now have authority over all the abilities of the devil. We can grow old without growing older. The devil only comes to “kill, steal, and destroy,” but Jesu came “that we might have life, and have it more abundantly.” Hosea 13:14 “I will ransom them (us) from the power of the grave: I will redeem them from death.” Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Armand is a really cute little 10 lb. poodle or bichon mix. He was a stray at Memphis Animal Shelter. He is about 5 years old. He seems to be a ladies man, does not do well with men. Armand gets along fine with other dogs and is a friendly little guy. He is heartworm neg and microchipped. Big Wig is an approximately two year old scruffy terrier mix male, a little under 15 lbs. We pulled him from the Dyersburg animal shelter. Big does this really cute thing where he stands up and paws the air for your attention. He can walk on 2 legs – he could definitely be a circus dog! He is a sweet guy, heartworm negative, neutered, up to date on shots, etc. Big Wig walks pretty well on leash and is learning to stay in his crate overnight. Big Wig does well with other dogs but needs to be in a home without really small children as he does not like people all over him. He is a fabulous little dog and is very easy to take care of. He does not chew or bark excessively at home and he is housetrained. All he needs is some food, water, and for someone to be kind to him. He is a real cuddler once he gets to knows you. Big Wig tends to be nervous and anxious at adoption events so the best place to meet him would be one-on-one. If you are interested let us know and we can set that up! Coco is a very nice 11 years young poodle or cocker/poodle that we pulled from Memphis Animal Shelter after he was owner surrendered. He was so matted that he was severely shaved down and it’s taken weeks for him to get enough hair to be photographed. Coco is a lovely, loving and lively senior who does well with other dogs in the household. He loves everyone, very mild mannered dog. He is neutered and up to date with shots. Eugene was owner surrendered at Memphis Animal Shelter. He is a 10 year old shih tzu/toy poodle mix. Eugene is a sweet little guy and very low key. He is under 10 lbs. and is up to date on everything, neutered, microchipped and heartworm neg.

LOVES playing fetch!
Faith is a two year old female Heeler (Australian cattle dog) and weighs about 35 lbs. She came to us from the Memphis Animal Shelter where she tested heartworm positive. Faith is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. Female heelers tend to be alpha dogs and would do best as an only dog. She is extremely friendly, outgoing, and affectionate and Hetty is a stray from Memphis Animal Shelter. She is an 8 month old golden retriever/ chow mix and weighs 35 lbs.
She is completely house trained, and tries really hard to please. She LOVES water and really loves to retrieve and play with toys, high energy dog. She loves her person and wants to be right by their side. Would be great for someone who likes an active dog. Miss Hetty has personality plus. Come meet this fluffy beautiful girl! Little Mama is a precious Schnauzer mix that we pulled from Memphis Animal Shelter. She had recent pups and was owner surrendered with that name. Little Mama is a sweet girl who tested heartworm positive. She is about three years old and weighs 18 lbs, she’s the boss! She is spayed and will start her heartworm treatment as part of her adoption fee. All dogs are in Memphis, TN and available to adopt through Real Good Dog Rescue. Real Good Dog Rescue primarily rescues canines from local animal shelters and provides foster homes until they are adopted into their FURever homes.

PRINCIPLES OF A SELF-DEFENSE CLAIM – AVOIDANCE Hello, fellow bikers. This past weekend was beautiful – and warm! Now I’m not going to complain, because no one listens when I do, but with the temperature hitting 86 degrees on Sunday, it felt more like mid-June than mid-May. If Sunday’s weather is any indication, we will have a very hot summer.
Dwelling: a building or conveyance of any kind, including any attached porch, whether the building or conveyance is temporary or permanent, mobile or immobile, that has a roof over it, including a tent, and is designed for or capable of use by people
Over the past several columns, we have explored the five components of a selfdefense claim. In review, these principles are:
Curtilage: the area surrounding a dwelling that is necessary, convenient and habitually used for family purposes and for those activities associated with the sanctity of a person’s home
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Innocence Imminence Proportionality Avoidance Reasonableness
Business: a commercial enterprise or establishment owned by a person as all or part of the person’s livelihood or is under the owner’s control or who is an employee or agent of the owner with responsibility for protecting persons and property and shall include the interior and exterior premises of the business
This month’s column deals with #4 – Avoidance. It is critical, for those of us calling Tennessee home, to understand how your ability to avoid a deadly encounter can jeopardize your self-defense claim. And while Tennessee is a “stand-your-ground” state, there are potential legal pitfalls to a defense based exclusively on a “no duty to retreat” argument. Finally, while the protections of “Castle Doctrine,” derived from William Blackstone’s “Commentaries on the Laws of England,” provides a great deal of protection while you are in your home, there are restrictions on when you can use force even within your “castle.” Avoidance Simply put, if you can safely avoid a potentially dangerous encounter, you should do so. Get away and call the police. Even with the protections Tennessee has codified in law, do not become a victim of a cowboy mentality - as there are limitations to stand-your-ground which can land you in prison for a VERY long time. Let’s look at the actual Tennessee code regarding your “duty-to-retreat.” 39-11-611(b)(1): …a person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and is in a place where the person has a right to be has no duty to retreat before threatening or using force against another person when and to the degree the person reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect against the other’s use or attempted use of unlawful force. This statue clearly states you must be innocent (you are in a place you are legally allowed to be and not a participant in an unlawful activity), there must be imminence of potential death or maiming and a “reasonable” person would have acted similarly. Notice that three of the five components of a self-defense claim are clearly referenced in this specific code: innocence, imminence and reasonableness. And while this code does not reference proportionality, your force must be proportional – do not use deadly force against an aggressor who is not using deadly force against you. To do so will only provide a prosecutor ammunition (pun intended) to portray you as that “cowboy” alluded to earlier. Castle Doctrine Tennessee provides many safeguards against criminal prosecution when you use force to protect yourself, your family and guests while you are in your “castle.” Your castle is a: residence, dwelling, curtilage, business and vehicle. Residence: a dwelling in which the person resides, either permanently or temporarily, or is visiting as an invited guest, or any dwelling, building or other appurtenance within the curtilage of the residence
June 2017
Vehicle: any motorized vehicle that is self-propelled and designed for use on public highways to transport people and property These are all areas which fall under the protection of castle doctrine. However, as with stand-your-ground, there are limitations to your ability to claim self-defense while in any of these areas – most importantly, deadly force is never allowed to protect one’s property or real estate. This is clearly spelled out in the following Tennessee statute. 39-11-611(C)(c) – Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury within a residence, business, dwelling or vehicle is presumed to have held a reasonable belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury to self, family, a member of the household or a person visiting as an invited guest, when that force is used against another person, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence, business, dwelling or vehicle, and the person using defensive force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred. Exceptions to this code can cause your self-defense claim to fail: • If you invited the person into your home as a guest - the AOJ Triad would apply: the person has to have ability and opportunity - and jeopardy has to exist which may cause you death or serious bodily injury • If you are in your home illegally – Eg. You are going through a divorce and your wife/significant other has legal authority to be in said home and has an order of protection against you • If the person cohabits the residence with you – the AOJ Triad again comes into play In summary, stand-your-ground and Castle Doctrine do not provide blanket immunity against prosecution. And stand-your-ground specifically only relieves you of the burden of avoidance – the other four legs, of the five components of selfdefense, still apply: Innocence, Imminence, Proportionality and Reasonableness. When it comes to avoidance, commonsense – which is not so common these days – is essential. Until next month, ride often, and keep the shiny side up! Molon Labe, Mike Noirot Note: I am not a lawyer and nothing in this column represents legal advice. My article is based on common sense and many years of studying self-defense.

RIDER SAFETY

Summer Road Trip: Carrying Passengers & Cargo
The date is marked on your calendar, the route is planned, reservations are made and you are packing for the summer road trip. This is a good time to think about how extra weight, either from a passenger or from cargo, will affect the way your motorcycle handles. Our friends at the Motorcycle Safety Foundation recommend for you to be a skilled rider before you carry a passenger or cargo. When you add extra weight on your motorcycle, starting from a stop is more difficult and will take longer for you to get up to speed. Additionally, expect that you may need more time for passing and you will need to prepare for stopping sooner as more brake pressure and space is needed. Consult your MOM (motorcycle owner’s manual) for the tire pressure and suspension settings for your motorcycle. Let’s look at tips for carrying a passenger: Your motorcycle should be equipped for your passenger with proper seating and passenger footrests. The passenger’s feet must be able to touch the footrests. Your passenger should wear all the safety gear. Keep both feet on the ground when your passenger mounts and dismounts. Communicate with your passenger and have them communicate with you when mounting and dismounting. You should go easy on lean angles. Do you have something for your passenger to hold on to like a strap or solid handholds? It’s a good idea for you to do some practice with the passenger to sharpen your skills and be aware that your motorcycle may handle differently. Consider riding a little slower, keeping a little bit more space cushion and wait for larger gaps when entering or crossing traffic. What makes a good passenger? We’ve mentioned proper communication when mounting and dismounting. You may June 2017
find it beneficial to have a few hand signals for things like “I need to pull over” or “please slow down.” It’s also important to discuss with your passenger what you expect. For example, once on the bike do not turn around and sit still with minimal movement. When riding, point out to your passenger to lean with the bike in a curve. If he/she looks over the inside shoulder of the rider, it almost always produces a good lean angle. As a rider, you need to be aware that your passenger is exposed to more wind, the passenger seat may not be as comfortable as yours and he/she may experience cramping and boredom. A few tips for loading and carrying cargo: Consult with MOM again regarding your motorcycle’s load limit. When packing your saddlebags, balance is important. Remember the extra weight on the rear of the bike will lighten the front. Reconsider strapping anything to the handlebars, front forks or front fender as the extra weight on the front may affect your steering. Keep the items you pack away from the mufflers. Don’t block the lights. If you add a tank bag, make sure it does not hinder the handle bar movement. Fasten your load securely with nets or bungees. There we have it - a quick review for carrying passengers and cargo for your summer road trip. You can finish the packing and get on the road! And remember, safe summer riding starts with you. Have a great time! Donna, along with being an avid riding enthusiast, is a MSF motorcycle safety coach for the state of Tennessee and a Harley-Davidson Riding Academy Coach. She is a member of the Motor Maids, H.O.G. and Ladies of Harley.

SMOKY MOUNTAIN CANNONBALL RUN By Scott High There have been a lot of cool runs and rides over the years, and most of them raise money for a great charity, but the Smoky Mountain Cannonball Run may be one of the best yet. It seemed pretty simple on paper, get a team of 2 or more bikes together, pick up your map with the stops on it the day of the event and ride to some of the locations, take a selfie showing your team and team number with the location in the background and be back at the shop within 7 hours. Sounds simple, right? Well there was a little more to it than that. Within 100 miles of Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson in Maryville there were 80 stops and each stop was worth either 100, 50, 30, 20 or 10 points. The eight 100 point stops were the furthest and/or hardest to get to, and were places like Wildcat Harley-Davidson in London, KY or the town of Helen, GA or the Alvin C York State Park, the 50 point stops were a little closer and/or easier to get to, and so on down to the 10 point stops which were scattered pretty close around the shop. Each team had to decide what they thought was the best route to collect the most points and be back within the 7 hour time limit, so after you picked up your map you had to figure out the exact location of the landmark, the fastest way to get there, and where to go from there. It was an exercise in logistics and navigation, so the teams that scored the most points studied the maps and figured out their plan of attack before they left. Each team’s 7 hours started when they left the shop and ended when they got back and it was firm. A couple of teams missed the cut off and were disqualified but even those teams had a great ride and most everyone ended up going places they had never been before. Denise and I rode about 250 miles taking photos of the Cannonballers but we figured out pretty quick we were chasing a moving target and didn’t get many. After the 6 p.m. cutoff the points were counted and prizes were given out before the post Cannonball Run concert featuring the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, Tuesdays Gone. After the dust settled, the winning team had collected 390 points and ridden well over 300 miles. All together 240 people made up 67 teams and raised over $9,000 for The Sean Summerfield Memorial Scholarship. “Little Sean” was part of the Smoky Mountain H-D family who was taken from us way too soon, he practically grew up at the shop and had a passion for motorcycles, he was the inspiration for SMH-D’s annual High School Bike Build Off, and helped develop and promote the Smoky Mountain Scrambler projects. The Sean Summerfield Memorial Scholarship will make sure his legacy lives on.

WILL RIDE TO EAT
by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley
CHOPPER’S GRILL
In 1918 Dupont Corporation and the Federal government planned Old Hickory as Tennessee’s largest industrial complex at Hadley’s Bend on the Cumberland River. The plant was originally a gunpowder factory to support World War I. Between 34,000 and 56,000 people lived in Dupont owned housing. The complex was a complete town with everything you would expect a small town to have. After the war the plant was converted to produce Rayon and cellophane. In 1946 Dupont began selling the homes and buildings outside the plant to the public. In 1952, the Corp of Engineers began construction of Old Hickory Dam and created Old Hickory Lake just outside of Nashville. The recent population explosion in Nashville is now bringing new attention to this historic low keyed and long established community. Old Hickory also has a history of bikers and places for bikers and the local community to go, socialize and eat. Chopper’s Grill, 1200 Donelson Avenue, Old Hickory, TN, 37138, (615) 8947020 is the corner neighborhood grill in Old Hickory. Tim and his wife “Country” used to own DILIGAF’s close to the Dupont plant. They got to the point they needed to take a break from the work load, sold DILIGAF’s and took some personal time. After a while they got their batteries recharged and couldn’t wait to open a new place and get back to having fun and spending more time with the folks they loved in middle Tennessee. They opened Chopper’s in July of 2015 to be a meat-n-three that served beer in the evenings. While the food was great, most of the crowd came in the evenings. Like most successful business owners, Tim and Country went with the flow. Chopper’s is now a grill that serves great food with a fullservice beer and liquor bar. Customers cover the whole spectrum. Biker’s, hotrodder’s, grandmothers, new agers,

millennials, golfers, construction workers, Dupont workers, etc. etc. etc. The only thing everyone has in common is that they are friendly and like to have a good time. This is a really safe place to party. Happy hour runs Monday thru Thursday, 2pm to 6pm. Long necks are $2, well drinks are 2 for 1 and $3 Fireball for happy hour. Monday is free pool from open to close. Wednesday nights are Bike Night with free food until it’s gone and Karaoke. Friday and Saturday always have something special going on. Karaoke, live music and dancing are all on the menu depending on the weather and keeping it lively. Call ahead to find out exactly what’s happening. You can also find them on Facebook. The Chopper Burger is most popular but so are the other sandwiches, chili, pizza and large selection of appetizers. Everything is made special and extra good. There is a Sunday Breakfast Brunch the last Sunday of every month sponsored by the Old Hickory Chopper’s Brotherhood & Sisterhood. Chopper’s is big on giving back too. They help families at Christmas, a local women’s shelter, help when folks suffer tragedy and host a variety of fundraisers. It doesn’t get any more biker than that. If you are out riding to eat and see me, please tell me your favorite places to go when you’re hungry and thirsty. “Will Ride to Eat” is an ongoing article in Thunder Roads® Magazine of Tennessee and we want to put the spotlight on the great history of and variety of Tennessee’s biker friendly establishments.

Appleton Harley-Davidson
13th Annual Bikers & Bogeys by Denise High Some bikers play golf, and some golfers ride bikes. They came together at Appleton Harley-Davidson’s 13th annual Bikers and Bogeys. Bikers and Bogeys is the annual 4 man scramble golf tournament put on by the gang at Appleton to raise money for charity, at Swan Lake Golf Course in Clarksville. This year 19 teams raised $1500 for St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital. Over the years the annual tournament has raised over $20,000 for charity. Appleton’s Larry Lyle, Amanda Rose, and Keith Milan have put the annual event on every year with help from others over the years but they are fixtures at the event. This year the hole sponsors were Seay Oil in Hopkinsville, BDI, Legends Bank, Lowes, Jim Pennington Insurance, Carpet Express, Firestone, Clarksville Blue Coral, Bolin Rental Purchases, Logan’s Lawn Care, Tuckessee Hog Chapter, Pat Rose Painting, Legend Electrical, Ashworth Automotive, A-1 Heating & Air, and MSCS Insurance. Dickeys BBQ catered the event, Budweiser of Clarksville donated the beverages and the winner’s trophies were donated by Sporty’s Awards. The overall Winners for 2017 were Grant Huddleston, Hayden Mcclain , Jacob Proffitt, and Mark Hays while Mark Hays won Closest to Hole on #13, Tracy Wright on #10, and Wayne Leding on #16, with Al Ansley winning the longest drive on #7. The Thunder Roads Tennessee sponsored team finished tied for 10th, not too bad. All in all it was a great way to spend a beautiful Sunday morning, and the best part, they all finished in time to go for a ride.

NIRVANA ROADHOUSE BIKE RALLY By: Rebel Ron Photos: Jennifer
The first annual “Rockin in The Holler” Bike Rally in Pulaski TN went off pretty good despite the constant rain leading up to the first day of the 4 day event April 27th to 30th. The organizer and owner of the fun Nirvana Roadhouse biker bar, Miss Nyla, is a dynamo of fun and excitement whether she is putting on a large event like this or any of the parties she has at her secluded bar. If you are looking for a great destination for a Sunday afternoon ride, I highly recommend you go to her “Sunday Funday” where they have cold beer and great food too. Your humble writer came in second in the vibrator races the last time I was there :) There was lots of live music, vendors, fun bike games, beer, and several hundred people having some old skool fun in a field
like we use to enjoy. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Miss Nyla wanted to thank a few folks for helping put this first event together (look for more coming soon). Thanks to the bands, Phoenix Rising and fire hoop stunts performed by the amazing Amy Brown, Low Tech Rednecks, Still Rollin, Galen Cherry & the Soul Shakerz. Special thanks to helpers Ronnie Anderson, Wes Eytcheson, Fred & Patricia Sisk, Jim & Chad Valentine, Billy Joe, Patrick & Tina Ford, Animal, Hooch, Zack Weaver, Lee Akers, Mike Clark & Josh. The Nirvana ladies; Kim, Kelley, Ashley, Vanessa, & Harli who worked their butts off ensuring no one was hungry or thirsty. Special thanks to the EBGB MC for being there just in case she needed them. Y’all go check out her unique bar near Hwy 64 & I-65 east of Pulaski and come to one of the upcoming events she has planned!!! Ride safe & often folks.

SIMPLE, MEAT MARINADE: AT LEAST 5 GENERATIONS STRONG! Always let your meat be room temperature. Cold meat does not absorb a marinade easily. But light your grill and let it get good & hot. I’ve used this marinade my entire life for steak and it’s literally been used for 5 generations back that my Mom could recall......and it’s so incredibly simple: Take room temp. steaks and squeeze mustard all on one side; rub it in good, making sure to get the sides Then, drizzle Worcestershire Sauce all over top of the mustard. This is when you add any spices you want; salt & pepper ( we add this again slightly when actually grilling too), garlic powder if you like it. Now, just let it sit for only 5 minutes. That’s it. That simple. There’s something in the ingredients of the mustard (which has been around over 100 years) & the Worcestershire Sauce (which has been around over 100 years) that when combined, make up for a perfect meat tenderizer. You do not taste the mustard one single bit after grilling but the flavor you do get is truly amazing. Make sure that you “let your meat rest” when you take it off the grill or anytime you cook meat. I add a sprinkle of parsley, just for freshness. Just give it a solid 5 minutes and those juices get sucked back into the meat. Don’t ever put your meat on a cardboard paper plate as those just absorb all your juices. Use an actual plate or the coated stock paper plates.
GET CREATIVE WITH GRILL BUNDLES! Anything you can cook on top of your stove, you can put in a grill bundle; Just use the high-quality heavy aluminum foil. Place on low heat on grill and let go long and slow. Gives you time for a few beers. Brown Rice, Shrimp & Snap Peas and a pat of butter Sear your Kielbasa off quick, slice in 1 inch pieces then place in a bundle of sliced thin onions & peppers, thin sliced potatoes & a pat of butter
26
Take Frozen X-Large Shrimp from any major grocery store and the quartered size of frozen corn on cob pieces, double up alum. foil, making a bowl shape with high siders, add ingredients and sprinkle McCormick’s Caribbean Seasoning, roll up your bundle nice and tight and let it go for about 15 minutes over medium heat. Phenomenal! Grill off Pork Chops really quick on high heat, turn heat down to low. Add your fave veggie; frozen peas or frozen squash. We like to add a can of sliced apples, a couple pinches of cinnamon and a pat of butter. Wrap tight, let it go for 15 mins. over med. heat. Delish! Then we do our veggie off to the side; (be sure and spray your grill with non-stick butter or olive oil before laying veggies down) big slices of squash; cut lengthwise, big thick slices of onion, long slices of eggplant, whole carrots cut in half and placed flat down, whole ears of corn on the cob still in the husk. Just pull down your husks gently, slather butter all over the ear of corn; salt & pepper and gently push the husks back up in place and grill over low heat. After about 10 minutes, pull down the husks again and let the corn get some good grill marks. Serve with husks back up. Crazy Good! The thing is t0 just think outside of your kitchen. If you can cook it inside, you can cook it on your grill. Even pasta bundles on the grill. I am a BIG lover of grilling fruit and then drizzling a sauce, honey or ice cream over top. Grilled fruit is amazing because when it’s caramelized on the grill, it enhances all its’ pure flavors: GRILLED BANANNAS: Cut bananas length-wise and on a low grill that’s been sprayed with butter, lay them down, sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar & cinnamon, flip, remove and drizzle with either melted Hershey’s chocolate sauce or hot melted caramel sauce (both in the ice-cream aisle at any grocery). GRILLED PEACHES: I use whole, fresh peaches, cut down the middle, remove pit, leave on just enough to get grill marks, sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar mix, remove, drizzle with heated marshmallow sauce. GRILLED PINEAPPLE: Cut the pre-cut ones’ from your Deli in the tall plastic container. These are big, thick-cut pieces. Sprinkle w/ cinnamon & sugar mix; get good grill marks, remove and add a couple small scoops of quality Vanilla Bean ice-cream. JUST GET CREATIVE & HAVE FUN! LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE...& APPRECIATE FOOD.

BIKE OF THE MONTH
1997 H-D SOFTAIL CUSTOM Congratulations to Kenton Horner on winning our monthly Bike Contest on Facebook! This bike was bought brand new by my uncle Alan Horner, it was his 1st of many. Uncle Alan sold it to my cousin Rob Horner in 2002. Uncle Alan did many things to make the bike look great but Rob Horner took it to another level. Uncle Alan passed in October of 2015 and while at his funeral I asked Rob if he still had the bike, he said he did but was considering selling it since he had 2 little girls now and didn’t get to ride as much as he used to. After much persuasion he reluctantly agreed to sell me the bike and I am grateful that he did. I consider this the “Horner” bike and I hope it stays in the family. Some of the specs are the original stock 80 EVO motor, Andrews EV27 cam, gray ghost paint by Randy Phelps in 2008, H-D 21” Thunderstar front wheel, Samson slasher pipes, Badlander seat, Boosted Brad custom grips, and many more chrome accessories from Harley-Davidson and Kuryakyn. If you have a cool custom bike you would like to have featured in our magazine, enter it in our monthly contest by submitting a pic of your bike to ThunderRoadsTn@gmail.com

NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)
BIGGEST LITTLE NCOM CONVENTION IN RENO Like “The Biggest Little City in the World,” this year’s 32nd annual NCOM Convention in Reno NV may have experienced a slight reduction in numbers, but it continues to be the largest gathering of bikers’ rights advocates on the planet with hundreds of representatives from Motorcyclists Rights Organizations (MROs), clubs and associations across the country. The National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) board of directors moved to broaden the spectrum of programs aimed to assist bikers’ rights groups while expanding outreach to active segments of the motorcycling community such as the Confederations of Clubs, women riders, clean & sober, Christian Unity, sportbikers, tourers and veterans. The NCOM Legislative Task Force likewise took action to provide supportive services on the legislative front, while the Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (AIM) nationwide network of biker attorneys continually develops new strategies for litigation on a litany of motorcycling issues. In addition to meetings and breakout sessions conducted Mother’s Day Weekend, May 11-14 at the Silver Legacy casino, the NCOM Convention featured seminars on Federal Anti-Profiling Legislation, Civil Rights And How To Protect Them, Driverless Vehicles, and a special presentation by Sr. EMT Instructor Slider Gilmore on “The Diabetic Rider”. During the Silver Spoke Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, several honorees were recognized for their contributions to “Improving The Image of Motorcycling”, including; GOVERNMENT: U.S. Senator Jodi Ernst of Iowa; MEDIA: Scott & Denise High of Thunder Roads Magazine - Tennessee; LEGAL: Christopher Slater, AIM Attorney for Oregon & Washington; ENTERTAINMENT: Frank Fritz of “American Pickers” TV Show; SPECIAL RECOGNITION: Stephen Stubbs, NCOM Attorney – Nevada; and NCOM’s highest honor, the Ron Roloff Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to Boar, NCOM Liaison for Confederation of Clubs. Next year’s 33rd Annual NCOM Convention will be held May 1013, 2018 at the Renaissance – Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Alabama. ANTI-PROFILING LEGISLATION FILED IN U.S. HOUSE & SENATE A bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers introduced a resolution to address the issue of motorcycle profiling and promote collaboration between the motorcycle and law enforcement communities. U.S. Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Michael C. Burgess, M.D (R-TX) and Collin Peterson (D-MN) led the effort in the House (H.Res. 318), and U.S. Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) introduced the Senate version (S.Res.154). “This bipartisan resolution should send a clear message to relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies across the country: 28
motorcycle profiling has no place on our roads. Instead, we must foster collaboration and cooperation between these agencies and the riders in order to promote safety and ensure all motorists are treated fairly under the law,” stated Rep. Pocan in a press release issued by Rep. Walberg, co-chair of the House Motorcycle Caucus. “From coast to coast, Americans of all backgrounds responsibly ride a motorcycle as their means of transportation or simply to enjoy the open road. This bipartisan resolution aims to raise awareness about the reality of motorcycle profiling and foster an open dialogue between motorcyclists and law enforcement,” said Walberg. H.Res.318 – “Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encouraging collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling,” has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, and defines profiling as; “motorcycle profiling means the illegal use of the fact that a person rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle related apparel as a factor in deciding to stop and question, take enforcement action, arrest, or search a person or vehicle with or without legal basis under the Constitution of the United States.” CONGRESSIONAL MOTORCYCLE CAUCUS SEEKS MEMBERS Since 2009, the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus has provided a forum for members of Congress who ride to support motorcyclists “through education and awareness in order to encourage responsible motorcycling.” The CMC also “serves to ensure that the motorcycling community is treated equitably by Congress as it considers infrastructure and environmental policies, as well as safety and education programs.” U.S. Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) head the caucus, and with the new Congress being recently seated the two sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to their peers in the U.S. House of Representatives soliciting CMC memberships from those who ride or have an interest in motorcycle issues: “We invite you to join the CMC to help promote these and other initiatives,” and in addition to promoting sound policy, “CMC members can help highlight the safety of motorcyclists through the recognition of Motorcycle Awareness Month, hosting and participating in industry fly-ins, drawing attention to the national ‘Ride to Work Day,’ promoting rider awareness and safety at national events -- such as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Summer X Games -- ensuring motorcycle safety is remembered in the transportation reauthorization process, and working to remind operators to be aware of motorcycles with whom they share the roads and highways.” If he or she rides, please encourage your Congressional Representative to join the CMC by contacting Rep. Burgess’ office at 5-7772 or Rep. Walberg at 5-6276. HISTORIC VEHICLE REGISTRY A federal bill has been introduced in the 115th Congress “to establish a program to accurately document vehicles that were significant in the history of the United States.” The National Historic Vehicle Register Act of 2017 (S.966) was introduced April 27, 2017 by U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and

Rob Portman (R-OH) and would require the U.S. Department of the Interior to create a register housed in the Library of Congress to preserve examples of historically significant automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and commercial vehicles. This project is the first of its type to create a permanent archive of significant historic vehicles that would include short narratives, photographs and engineering drawings of each vehicle. To be eligible for the register, vehicles must be connected to a significant person or event in American history, have a unique design or be a rare model. The Senate bill has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. LIQUOR SALES CHARGE AGAINST MOTORCYCLE CLUB DISMISSED A North Dakota district court judge has dismissed a liquor sales charge against a Minot motorcycle club, following motions to dismiss filed by Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorney Justin Vinje and the prosecuting attorney. The Ice Cold Ryders Motorcycle Club had been charged with engaging in the unlicensed sale of alcohol at their clubhouse. A police investigation of a nearby disturbance during the morning of November 29, 2015, led law enforcement to peer inside the clubhouse during a social gathering. Inside, officers saw a large number of people socializing and drinking alcoholic beverages. Law enforcement concluded that unlicensed liquor sales were occurring. One officer testified in support of a search warrant, falsely claiming to have also seen a cash register in the clubhouse. Law enforcement received a search warrant and entered the clubhouse later that morning, seizing the club’s security equipment, sound system, coolers, alcoholic beverages, and paper documents. Law enforcement also froze the club’s bank accounts. On October 6, 2016, nearly a year after the raid, law enforcement charged the club with the unlicensed sale of alcohol. A.I.M. Attorney Justin Vinje represented the club and requested law enforcement’s investigative reports. Those reports mainly consisted June 2017
of an analysis of the club’s banking records and an inventory of items seized. The reports also revealed that law enforcement never seized a cash register from the premises. During the case, a confidential informant with ties to local law enforcement contacted Vinje, telling the club’s lawyer that law enforcement asked her to attend club gatherings and wear a wireless recording device to capture proof of unlicensed alcohol sales. The informant wore a wire and attended two club gatherings in the spring of 2016. A SWAT team stood at the ready to raid the club in the event of illegal activity. No unlawful alcohol sales took place, but the government failed to provide any records of this to the defense. Attorney Vinje filed a motion to dismiss the charge, due to the government’s failure to turn over records related to the confidential informant’s activities. Vinje also filed a motion to suppress evidence from the search, arguing that law enforcement testified falsely about the presence of a cash register during its application for the search warrant. Three days later, the government filed a motion to dismiss the charge, citing insufficient evidence to proceed and that dismissal would serve the interest of judicial economy. The case was dismissed. WEIRD NEWS: MAN ATTEMPTED SEX WITH MOTORCYCLE A man has appeared in court in Canterbury, England for allegedly attempting to have sex with Suzuki’s most alluring model, a GSX-R. Mechanophilia, where a person is sexually attracted to cars, motorcycles, helicopters, ships, planes and other vehicles, is a crime in the U.K. and if found guilty, perpetrators can be placed on the sex offenders' register. The 33-year old chap reportedly exposed himself in public and tried to engage in a tempestuous relationship with his motorcycle, after previously being seen punching and kicking the bike on the same day. Apparently drunk and on drugs, he claimed in court to remember dropping his trousers but denied exposing himself and has pleaded not guilty to indecent exposure and criminal damage. A farmer was selling his peaches door to door. He knocked on a door and a shapely 30-something woman dressed in a very sheer negligee answered the door. He raised his basket to show her the peaches and asked, “Would you like to buy some peaches, ma’am?” She pulled the top of the negligee to one side and asked, “Are they as firm as this?” He nodded his head and said, “Yes ma’am,” and a little tear ran from his eye. Then she pulled the other side of her negligee off asking, “Are they nice and pink like this?” The farmer said, “Yes,” and another tear came from the other eye. Then she unbuttoned the bottom of her negligee and asked, “Are they as fuzzy as this?” He again said, “Yes,” and broke down crying. She asked, “Oh, dear, why on earth are you crying?” Drying his eyes he replied, “The drought got my corn, the flood got my soy beans, a tornado leveled my barn……. And now I do believe I’m gonna’ get screwed out of my peaches.” _____________________________________________________ An air traffic control tower suddenly lost communication with a small twin engine aircraft. A moment later the tower land line rang and was answered by one of the employees. An old pal of the Pilot’s, whom was a passenger, was riding shotgun since the Co-Pilot called in ill . He contacted the Tower and yelled,; “Mayday, mayday!! The Pilot of this aircraft had an instant and fatal heart attack. I grabbed his cell phone and as I hoped, he had the Tower on his speed dial memory. I am flying upside down at 18,000 feet and traveling at 180 mph. Mayday, mayday!!” The employee in the tower had put him on speaker phone immediately. “Calm down, we acknowledge you and we’ll guide you down after a few questions. The first thing is not to panic, remain calm. He began his series of questions: Tower: “How do you know you are traveling at 18,000 feet??” Aircraft: “I can see that it reads 18,000 feet on the Altimeter dial in front of me.” Tower: “Okay, that’s good, remain calm. How do you know you’re traveling at 180 mph?” Aircraft: “I can see that it reads 180 mph on the Airspeed dial in front of me.” Tower: “Okay, this is great so far, but it’s heavily overcast, so how do you know you’re flying upside down?” Aircraft: “The sh*t in my pants is running out of my shirt collar.” _____________________________________________________ The husband leans over and asks his wife, “Do you remember the first time we had sex together over sixty years ago? hind the village tavern where you leaned against the back fence and I made sweet, passionate love to you.” Yes, she says, “I remember it fondly.” OK, he says, “How about taking a stroll around there again and we can do it for old time’s sake?” “Oh Jim, you old devil, that sounds like a crazy, but thrilling idea!” A police officer sitting in the next booth heard their conversation and, having a chuckle to himself, he thinks to himself, I’ve got to see these two old-timers having sex against a fence. I’ll just keep an eye on them so there’s no trouble. So he follows them. The elderly couple walks haltingly along, leaning on each other for support aided by walking sticks. Finally, they get to the back of the tavern and make their way to the fence. The old lady lifts her skirt and the old man drops his trousers. As she leans against the fence, the old man moves in. Then suddenly they erupt into the most furious sex that the policeman has ever seen. This goes on for about ten minutes while both are making loud noises and moaning and screaming. Finally, they both collapse, panting on the ground. The policeman is amazed. He thinks he has learned something about life and old age that he didn’t know existed. After about half an hour of lying on the ground recovering, the old couple struggle to their feet and put their clothes back on. The policeman, is still watching and thinks to himself, this is truly amazing, I’ve got to ask them what’s their secret? So, as the couple passes, he says to them, “Excuse me, but that was something else. You must’ve had a fantastic sex life together. Is there some sort of secret to all this to give hope to my wife and I for our future together? Shaking, the old man is barely able to reply, “Sixty years ago that wasn’t an electric fence.” _____________________________________________________ Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley
Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: I still do email. I know a lot of people have gone to social media but I still believe that my conversations, what I am doing and who I know is mostly my business and nobody else’s. I don’t post what I did during the last ten minutes, talk about the holes in my socks or how unfair the big world is to disadvantaged penguins in the arctic tundra. I can’t get over how everyone seems to be willing to tell everything they do to everyone they know in a way that everyone they don’t know also knows. Is it just me who thinks that everyone knowing everything is just an invitation for someone to misuse that information? Text and email is as far as I go. The emails I receive are mostly mundane, boring or just plain junk but some are witty, informative, interesting and downright humorous. I recently received one that really caught my eye. This particular email’s subject said; “The American Flag: A Symbol of Hate Speech on Campuses?” WHAT??? When I was younger the American Flag was the focus of subversive protesters, many of them college students so I opened the email. There was a link to a You Tube video from an outfit named PragerU. It showed a very serious and seemingly sincere interviewer talking with the young male student government leader from the University of California, Irvine, about the American Flag. The young man was explaining how the American Flag made many on campus uncomfortable, insecure and was a symbol of oppression. He was actively trying to have the American Flag banned from campus. The interviewer looked like he was agreeing with the young student but was actually just allowing him to show how hypocritical and dumbed down he and his compatriots really are. As the interview leads on it is revealed that the young student is the son of illegal aliens, received preferential acceptance to college and gets financial assistance to attend an American university where he works overtime to trash America as an oppressive, evil country that promotes slavery and class subversion. He is supported by the faculty and graduate students. Since when are free speech and free education examples of oppression. I’ve learned that June 2017
PragerU does these satirical videos on many of our nations pointed issues to show the hypocrisy of the left and how out of touch they really are. Very funny and worth a look if you get a chance. The video highlights the huge movement in our education system that uses what a Rand Corporation project calls Truth Decay. Politicians and our education system are shading truth in pursuit of progressive subversion of the constitution, our American ideals and personal freedoms. Universities are a primary tool of the left to instill a communist mindset and promote turning America into a third world socialist nation. In the video the student associates the American flag with the Nazi flag. You are supposed to believe our society is like Nazi Germany. Notice that leftists never talk about how communist and socialist governments, like China and Russia, have murdered and imprisoned more people than the German’s did during WWII or that America defeated Nazi Germany. Capitalism is a system of freedom, man was made to work and competition is the purifying action of progress and we are free to better ourselves. Patriotic, educated capitalists made this nation the leader of the free world. Jihadists, illegals, progressives, socialists and communists work against it. June 14th is Flag Day. I hope you will take the time and effort to fly the American Flag and let the America haters know that they are not going to be the winners in this struggle to see who controls our nation. The American Flag is the visible symbol of the freedoms and rights put forth in the Constitution of the United States. Politicians want to provide free college so young people can be converted into socialist sheep they can tend and rule. Bikers can easily fly the American Flag on their bike. Nobody enjoys freedom more than a biker. So, strike back and fly your Flag!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but, we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.
