HAPPY FALL YALL! Well it’s that time of the year, things start to get busy for everyone, thinking about the holidays, cooking, cleaning, decorating, but the riding slows down. I love Thanksgiving and decorating, but not so much the cooking part, but I love eating all the delicious home cooked food, who doesn’t, right?! Thanksgiving is a special time for us, we get to spend time with our families and be thankful for all that we have. It’s a time to reflect and celebrate, and I have so many things to be thankful for… my family, friends, this magazine, our advertisers, readers, correspondents, contributors, and our fabulous layout and graphic design artist, just to name a few. Even though the riding may slow down, I still love to get out on the bike and ride around just to look at all the beautiful colorful scenery, just have to wrap up a bit. We didn’t make it to Gatlinburg for our Anniversary due to all the events we attended and getting the magazine ready, but we did go out to dinner to celebrate, and it was delicious! Thank you to everyone that wished us a Happy Anniversary, which made our day even more special! We are making plans to go to Gatlinburg this month, I hope we don’t miss the leaves changing color, that’s my favorite part! We also got to spend some long overdue time with our daughter and son in-law, and enjoyed every minute of it! We went on the Haunted Tour of Nashville and had dinner downtown, we went to karaoke for a Halloween party at my parents’ house. I know that I totally embarrassed my daughter with my sexy fire girl costume and singing, LOL, she’ll get over it, maybe! We had a fabulous dinner at my in-laws house and the best part was the “family” photo shoot that my mom planned for us, no one was happy about that, but I’m sure we will all appreciate it in years to come! PLEASE keep Taz, aka Thunder Dawg in your prayers, he went to the vet and he has heart disease (his heart is twice the size it should be and two heart murmurs) and severe arthritis, but he is on meds for both and hopefully this will help with the pain and make his heart go a little longer. Not giving up on him yet! Keeping it real here… I know that all of our advertisers received an email from one of our competitors and we apologize for this. It was tacky, very unprofessional and we didn’t deserve or appreciate it. We could have immediately sent out an email to all their advertisers, but we chose not to, as we will always take the high road and will not stoop to the level they did with the “knife in the back” action. Ok, I said my peace… we love our advertisers dearly and hope that you would stay with us and not go with a magazine that does business this way. We hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, get out and enjoy the beautiful fall riding while you can and spend time with your family! Ride Hard Live Free, Denise & Scott

Mint World War II 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA By: Rebel Ron ince November 11 is Veterans Day across America & this year marks the 70th anniversary if several battles during WW II I thought I’d share some photos of a very cool motorcycle. Check out this near mint 1942 Harley Davidson WLA with the durable 45ci flathead motor. Known by many bike enthusiasts as the “Liberator”. Just so ya know all WLAs made after Pearl Harbor to the end of the war in 1945 are marked as if they were made in 1942. So if you are at a swap meet & this guy has a 1944 WLA for sale. Walk away. Unless you get it real cheap. There were an astounding number of these bullet proof Harleys, commonly called “45s”, built for the war effort. We made 90,000 of these bikes for the Army with about 30,000 of those going to Russia along with enough parts to service them all very well. We even made thousands of a slightly different version for Canada, the Marines, & the Navy too. We also made a shaft driven BMW type bike, XA, along with thousands of Servi-Cars for the war. Harley even won an award from the US government for “Excellence in wartime production.” After the war the 45s still in Western hands would be sold as military surplus & they were everywhere with plenty of parts for cheap reliable transportation. The excess of these bikes & the brotherhood of the men who served in WW II would soon create the Chopper & Bobber bike culture along with the Motorcycle Club fascination that would cause them to span the world. They are all still very popular 70 years later. The popularity of the 45s after the war ensured that very few WLA would survive in original condition but many did. Even up into the 1970s you could still purchase HD 45s & parts often by the pound. They are hard to find these days but they are still out there. Here is one of the cooler ones found in years. A picker discovered this bike in a house by a barn full of tractors in Mississippi some time ago. It only had 911 miles & still packed as if the soldier had just parked it recently. Notice how it still has the ladies’ photos in the windshield & all gear. After negotiating for weeks a buyer in Tennessee got the bike for his collection. And ya gotta love the artwork making fun of Hitler!!!!! You’ll notice that when I took these photos after the WLA was unloaded at S & G Custom Cycles in Columbia, Tenn. that the trans is missing. It was in a wooden box with a few other parts. Apparently they broke the tranny back then, took it out, & apart then stuck it in the house for whatever reason. But glad they did. Since S & G repairs & restores older Harleys the new owner dropped it off. It was soon repaired by parts that Sam Goodman had in stock for the old trans. Bike fired up after some fluid changes, a little tweaking, & lots of kicking. Enjoy the bike that won the war & participate in a Veterans Day Parade near you. Ride safe & often. Thanks to all you Veterans out there, especially our men who served in WW II. Salute!!!!!

“The Freedom of Grace” John 1:17 “For the Law was given by Moses, but Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” With this message of Grace, some get on the right side of the ditch & some get on the left, but the Word of God will keep us in the middle of the road. Some just accept the standard definition of Grace as “God’s unmerited favor,” and it is just that but so much more, it is an attribute of Jesus Christ just like healing, prosperity, deliverance, joy & peace. First let’s look at a few facts concerning the law (10 commandments-Levitical Law); 1. The Law was never intended for the Gentiles, it was only for the Jews 2. God did not introduce the Law until the Jews thought they didn’t need God. 3. The Law was never intended to make man righteous, but to show man that he needed a savior. The Law has been such a major part of Religion even unto this day that it has affected us in every part of our culture, how we think and react towards others, family, friends, jobs and Churches. We have been brain washed to think that if we “do good-we get good, if we do bad-we get bad.” So if someone hurts us, we feel we have the right to hurt them back or get even. We hope that at the end of our lives that our good deeds outweigh our bad deeds, or we think that we live a better moral life than the next person. When we read our Bible through the lenses of the Law we interpret it incorrectly, we are living in the New Testament area and should be looking through the lenses of Grace. Now let’s look at a few facts concerning Grace; 1. Rom.6:14 “for sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the Law, but under Grace.” 2. Rom.7:4 “Wherefore my brethren, ye also are become dead to the Law by the body of Christ” 3. Vs.6 “But now we are delivered from the Law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in the newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter (Law).” 4. Gal.3:13 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law” November 2014
5. Mat.22:35-40 “…Master which is the greatest commandment in the Law. Jesus said, love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets.” Jesus had just changed the game, all we need to follow now are these two new commandments, but it can’t be done by Legalism, only by Grace. This is the part that we have a problem with because of our legalistic upbringing. We can’t grasp the thought that all our sins, past present and future have been forgiven through God’s Grace. This doesn’t mean that we get to sin and get by with it. Rom.6:1 “…shall we continue in sin that Grace might abound?” GOD FORBID! Legalism requires self-effort and self-performance, Grace requires accepting God’s love and mercy. Legalism requires “DOING,” God’s Grace requires “DONE!” God has DONE all that is needed for you, so climb down off that cross, there is not enough room up there for you and Jesus! Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

33rd Annual
Toy Run and Party From Friday September 16th through Sunday afternoon, Bikers Who Care of Clarksville held one of the area’s greatest events. The party begins with live music and bikini contests, includes a toy run, bike show, tattoo contest, and drags, before concluding with a biker church service and field events. Oh, did I mention free beer all weekend? The local Budweiser distributer donated 90 kegs for the event. All for an advance fee of $30 or $35 at the gate. Maybe due to the beer or the fact that the events ran into the night, many attendees took advantage of the free motorcycle camping. Needless to say, the Clarksville Speedway

rocked all weekend. The BWC Director, Bill (Bubba) Langford, with help from Leslie (Booger) Watson, Jr. and the rest of the members work very hard to make the charity event a great success. The major charities benefitting are Buddy Ball, Camp Rainbow, Montgomery County Advocacy Center, and the handicap accessible BWC Little Buddy Playground. The toys collected during the Leslie W. Watson Memorial Toy Run will be distributed to kids in need at Christmas. Besides Budweiser, Appleton’s Harley-Davidson and Thunder Roads Magazine are proud event sponsors.

BWC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization formed specifically to raise money to support Camp Rainbow, run jointly with Dream Factory. The week-long camp is held at Land Between the Lakes, where seriously ill children can be kids. It is staffed by volunteers and a full medical staff. They swim, fish, and make arts and crafts. Last year, BWC donated over $45,000 to Dream Factory. In addition, BWC funds and operates Buddy Ball, where ill and handicapped children can play baseball, with members acting as coaches, and has built and maintains BWC Little Buddy Park, a playground, which is handicapped accessible, donates to Montgomery County Advocacy Center, and other charities, such as the Children’s Hospital. The Toy Run is named for Leslie W. Watson, as a memorial to his giving nature. One attendee told of needing a special part for his old Harley. Leslie told him what to buy at the hardware store, and then machined it to fit, at no charge. This was typical of him, as was his habit of teaching others how to do repairs. The daylight hours were filled with activities. In addition to the toy run, which attracted over thousands of riders, there was a bike show, a burnout contest, a tattoo contest, and drag races. Tommy Harris and his wife, Kathy, took Best of Show and Best Paint in the bike show. Both of the Harris’ bikes were built by Brent Moore and painted by Boosted Brad’s Chop Shop. Tommy’s bright blue 2011 Harley Street Glide contrasts sharply with Kathy’s 2007 Ultra Motorcycle bare bones gold bike. James Yetta won Judges Choice for his V-Rod based trike and trailer. In the drags, Sportster went to Raymond Forbes, Big Twin to Jonathan Scott, Metric Cruiser to Kenneth Boykin, and Sports bike to Jack Jones. There were so many activities, I unfortunately missed the races, but was Judy said they were fun.

This year Sabrina, a tattoo artist with Black Kat, won both titles. She gave back most of her prize money and auctioned off a tattoo on Friday, for $100, and added to it by auctioning a tattoo, while topless, for $400, on Saturday. The Appleton Harley Hotties joined the contest adding to the fun. Following the contests, Music City Burlesque performed for the large crowd. Luring New Riders Motorcycle manufacturers have been investing heavily in new markets and attempting to attract new riders to their folds—whether they are simply new riders for that particular brand or riders that are new to the sport overall. The manufacturer’s approaches vary quite a bit with some creating completely new platforms with new engines, frames and sizes while others shuffle engines on to new frames with options taken from this and that to create new sub-breeds of motorcycle. One of the 2015 models that fit this trend is the Honda NM4. Touted as a jump to the future today, the NM4 features an aggressive style according to Honda “the NM4 shakes up the status quo and explodes conventional barriers in order
to attract a whole new segment of forward-thinking riders to motorcycling.” The sleek neo-futuristic styled street bike features a fuel injected 670cc SOHC eight valve water-cooled parallel twin engine, an automatic six-speed dual clutch transmission with two automatic and one manual operation mode. ABS brakes, an integrated wind shield, an adjustable 25.6 inch tall seat that includes a convertible passenger seat that flips up into three different positions as a rider backrest and a full complement LED lighting package including tail light, turn signals and headlight. The NM4 also features integrated storage with saddlebags and upper cowl storage pockets and rider floorboards for added comfort. The NM4 weighs in at 540 lbs (with fluids) with MSRP pricing beginning at $10999. The Harley-Davidson Motor Company has taken a bit of

a different tack in their pursuit of new riders and increased market share. They have brought out the café racer 2015 Street 500 and Street 750 to market targeting entry-level riders on the international markets of Asia and Europe as well as the domestic market. The Street models in either a 500cc or 750cc version are the new entry-level motorcycles in the HD line up. Including Harley-Davidson’s new Revolution X engine an eight valve, SOHC, liquid-cooled engine featuring a six speed transmission, with robust power from 2000-8000 rpm. The Street has been designed for the demands of urban riding lighter weight and with a low center of gravity and a 25.8 inch seat. The Street 500 and 750 both weigh in at 489 lbs (including fluids) with prices starting at $6799 for the Street 500 and $7499 for the Street 750 respectively. Obviously, these motorcycles are not head-to-to head competitors with a more than $5000 difference in starting MSRP between the Street 500 and the NM4. Both motorcycles however, do represent two very different ways in which to entice new riders to the banners of Honda and Harley Davidson. Undoubtedly both the NM4 and the Street 500/750 motorcycles have style and though there is no way to determine today if these motorcycles will have precisely the allure and effect that the manufacturers intend and draw the market share they were created to attract; I believe that more choice in the motorcycle marketplace is a good thing for motorcycle consumers. – Patrick McCauley, Thunder Roads Colorado November 2014

Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro 2014 Women Rock Weekend Retreat & 8TH Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Ride
The gang at Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro had a great plan, but like a lot of plans that involve riding motorcycles, it was at the mercy of Mother Nature. So when Mother Nature decided to mess with the plan, Kathy Potter and the Bumpus crew adapted and overcame, and had a great event in spite of the rain! The “plan” was for the women attending the weekend long retreat, to meet at Arrington Vineyards on Friday night, for a “Meet & Greet”. Standing in a vineyard in the rain didn’t sound like a great idea, so Tom and Angie Bumpus opened their beautiful home to the ladies, and everyone enjoyed good food and drinks, fellowship with old friends, and met some new ones. Saturday morning,

with rain still falling, the ladies met at Bumpus H-D, at the “Murfreesboro Chapter HOG House,” and were treated to a gourmet breakfast, and if not for the rain, the women would have ridden to lunch and an afternoon out. Adapt and overcome, the Bumpus Crew decided to bring in the buses. The ladies boarded party buses and headed to Sonny’s on Castle Heights, in Lebanon, TN, where everyone

and new, and the gang at Bumpus of Murfreesboro made sure that a little rain didn’t dampen it! The Sunday Breast Cancer Awareness Ride was postponed until the following Sunday, and had a great turnout. About 200 bikes, mostly 2 up, left Bumpus H-D for an easy paced ride, on a beautiful fall day, through the scenic Southern Middle Tennessee countryside, and ended up at Henry Horton State Park just outside of Chapel Hill. When we arrived, we found Tom Bumpus himself standing over a large grill, cooking hamburgers for everyone. What a fun event Tom, Angie, Kathy and the whole crew at Bumpus H-D of Murfreesboro put on! The best part, a lot of money was raised for Breast Cancer Research, and a couple hundred motorcycles with riders wearing bright pink “Hello Titty” T-shirts raised a lot of awareness! When they went inside to pay, Buster asked the attendant if the contest was still going on. “Sure,” replied the attendant. “I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10, if you guess right you win free sex.” “2” said Buster. “Sorry, I was thinking of 3,” replied the attendant. “Y’all come back soon and try again.” As they walked back to their bikes, Bodie said to Buster, “You know, I’m beginning to think this contest is rigged.” “No way,” replied Buster. “My wife won three times last week.” A biker’s greatest achievement was his brood of six kids. He was so proud that he continually called his wife: “Mother of Six”, which pissed her off to no end. But he kept referring to her as “Mother of Six” no matter where they went. At end of a poker run, he shouted across the bar, “Hey, “Mother of Six”, you ready to go home?” His irritated wife screamed back: “Anytime you’re ready, “Father of Four”!”
An older man approached a young woman in the Mall, ‘Excuse me; I can’t seem to find my wife. Can you talk to me for a couple of minutes?’ The young woman, feeling compassion for the old fellow, said, ‘Of course, sir. Do you know where your wife might be?’ ‘I have no idea, but every time I talk to a woman with hooters like yours, she seems to appear out of nowhere. It’s the damndest thing!”
Ever wonder why baby diapers have cute names like Luvs, Huggies and Pampers; while undergarments for old people are called Depends? Well, here’s your answer. When babies crap in their pants, people are still gonna’ Luv’ em’, Hug’ em and Pamper em’… When old people crap in their pants, it “Depends” on who’s in the damn will.

MiniVault and MultiVault Deluxe by GunVault
MicroVault by GunVault (drawer safe)
So, you have a handgun. Now what? It’s your responsibility to keep it out of the hands of unauthorized persons. Even if it’s on your hip most of the day, you still have to be sure that it’s properly stored when you come home at night. How do you do that? The answer seems pretty simple: with a gun safe! However, now that you’re looking at all the different safes available, the choices may seem overwhelming. Do you get one with a keypad? Do you need biometrics? What about those new safes that Hornady makes now, with the RF ID chip? First, you need to answer a couple questions for yourself. First, how many guns do you own? What types of guns are they (i.e. handguns, shotguns, rifles)? Do you need to have quick access for a specific gun or guns for home defense? If you’re looking to store shotguns and rifles, as well as handguns that you don’t use for home defense, and you won’t need quick access to them, you can’t beat a floor safe. These safes are designed for longer term storage, and are much more difficult to access quickly, but keep your guns very secure. There are several manufacturers for this style of safe, and they can get to be very expensive quickly, depending upon which features you want, such as size and the fireproof/waterproof qualities. If you have a handgun that you use for self-defense, be it carry or strictly for home defense, you must keep it securely stored in some fashion, whenever it’s not in a holster on your hip. There are many different types of safes and locking devices designed to securely store a loaded handgun for quick access. From there, it comes down to personal preference and how much you’re willing to spend for the different features of each safe. 26
NanoVault 100 & 200 by GunVault
You can choose a small lockbox that will hold a single gun, and will cost you anywhere from $25 to $50, depending on the construction of the box. Those generally operate with a keyed lock. The safes that operate by using a push button code in addition to having a keyed lock will generally run you anywhere from $150 to $250, and many have additional features for added security and can store more than one handgun or other valuables, as well. The biometric safes, which generally use a thumbprint method as well as a keyed lock can be much more expensive than that, but carry with them some additional peace of mind, as only the thumbprint(s) you have programmed will open the safe. There are fewer options out there for storing home defense shotguns, but they do exist! Hornady makes a small safe that is designed specifically for home defense shotguns and AR platform rifles and carbines! It is much smaller than a floor safe, but allows adequate room for a shotgun or rifle, and has the added benefit of quick access. As a general rule, all the quality safes designed for gun storage also have the ability to be bolted to a stud, or just about anywhere else you could imagine, so regardless of the model you choose, you can be sure that it will not be easily removable in the event of a break-in! My suggestion would be to do a little research once you know what your own needs will be. Many gun stores have floor models that you can look at to see what may be useful to you. When in doubt, ask some questions! Keep in mind that there are many different safes out there, and just because it’s not on the shelf somewhere, that doesn’t mean you can’t get exactly what you want!

NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) CITY IN WASHINGTON SETTLES PUBLIC RECORDS LAWSUIT WITH BIKERS The city of Kennewick, Washington has settled with a Tacoma motorcyclist and a group of motorcycle clubs who accused the city of violating the state Public Records Act. The city will pay $45,000 as part of the settlement of two lawsuits and will release some of the disputed records, City Attorney Lisa Beaton recently told the city council. The city has not admitted any wrongdoing in the handling of the records requests filed by Edward Goehring and the Washington Confederation of Clubs (COC). Both separately sued Kennewick after they claim they were improperly denied documents, including photos and videos, that Kennewick police took when they cited motorcyclists in separate incidents. Goehring was one of eight motorcyclists stopped by Kennewick police and Benton County sheriff’s deputies in August 2012 and cited for traffic violations. And in April 2013, authorities stopped some motorcyclists from the Washington Confederation of Clubs and cited them for traffic infractions during a gathering in Kennewick. In both cases, Kennewick police pursued information about outlaw motorcycle gangs, according to Beaton. The city, Goehring and the motorcycle club still disagree about some records. However, they agreed to have a third-party arbitrator review those records to decide which should be withheld or redacted and then released, Beaton told the Tri-City Herald. The $45,000 will come from the city’s risk management fund. Insurance does not cover public record lawsuits, she said. About $12,400 will go to the WA COC, and Goehring will receive the remainder. As part of the agreement, Goehring and the motorcycle clubs will dismiss their lawsuits with prejudice, which means they can’t be filed again, according to city documents. Goehring and the Washington Confederation of Clubs are represented by the same attorney group, Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorneys Marty Fox and Mike Meyers. CHIEF OF POLICE CANCELS OCEAN CITY BIKE WEEK“NO COLORS” POLICY A.I.M. Attorney addresses Ocean City’s No Colors Policy... GOOD NEWS (Sept 12, 2014): The Maryland Confederation Of Clubs Attorney Mitchell Greenberg approached the Ocean City Police on Thursday, Sept. 11 to address the “NO COLORS” policy stated on the Chief of Police Bike Week Rules and Regulations page on the OCPD website. The matter was brought to a quick and friendly close including a personal call to Mitch from Chief of Police Ross Buzzuro who assured the Maryland Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) Attorney that all Clubs and Colors are welcome in Ocean City. Mitch in turn assured Chief Buzzuro that the leaders of each Club share his hope for a Safe and Incident-Free bike week. The OCPD also assured Mitch that the “No Colors” language will be removed as soon as possible and that Colors are welcome in Ocean City public areas. 28
NHTSA WAIVES BUY-AMERICAN REQUIREMENT FOR MICHIGAN RIDER TRAINING Because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined that American makers don’t offer a small and light enough motorcycle for a Michigan Rider Training Program, the agency has approved their request to waive federal Buy-American rules to allow the state to purchase foreign-made motorcycles for their courses. The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning will now use government grant money to buy a fleet of 20 Suzuki training motorcycles, though so-called “Buy America rules” say NHTSA cannot award any funds “unless steel, iron, and manufactured products used in such project are produced in the United States.” However, NHTSA is allowed to waive the rules if they are “inconsistent with the public interest” or such materials and products are not produced in the United States in reasonably available quantities or “the inclusion of domestic material will increase the cost of the overall project contract by more than 25 percent.” Finding that “a cost waiver is appropriate for the twenty training motorcycles because domestically produced motorcycles would increase the cost by more than 25 percent,” NHTSA awarded Michigan grant funds to improve rider training. VIRGINIA COPS SPIED ON MOTORISTS AT POLITICAL RALLIES Documents released by the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia confirm that the Virginia State Police used cameras to track motorists attending political events. Automated license plate readers (ALPR) are used by law enforcement agencies throughout the country, ostensibly to fight crime by finding stolen cars. But a March 18, 2009 state police memo also documents the use of the “Help Eliminate Auto Theft” (HEAT) camera to identify attendees at 2008 campaign events for thenDemocratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. It was not until 2012 that the state police chief asked for an official determination of the legality of the license plate reader program, and in a February 13, 2013 ruling, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli blasted the “passive” use of recording the comings and goings of innocent drivers who are not part of an ongoing criminal investigation. “Its future value to any investigation of criminal activity is wholly speculative,” Cuccinelli wrote. “Therefore, with no exemption applicable to it, the collection of license plate reader data in the passive manner does not comport with the Data Act’s strictures and prohibitions, and may not lawfully be done.” TAG, YOU’RE IT In a survey of 2,000 licensed adult men and women across the country, Carinsurance.com found that half or more of America’s drivers would support the use of special license plates to identify certain drivers on the road: - 49.4% support license plates identifying drivers older than 70. - 57.9% support license plates identifying novice drivers. - 59.8% support license plates identifying those convicted of texting while driving. - 69.1% support license plates identifying those convicted of a DUI.

ANTI-POLLUTION RULES IN SPANISH CAPITAL FAVOR MOTORCYCLES New anti-pollution regulations in Spain’s capital Madrid exempt motorcycles during restrictive hours. Effective the first day of 2015, no non-resident will be allowed in the center of the city, but these restrictions do not apply to motorcycles, which are free to roam the center of Madrid. Still the exemption is only valid between 7am and 10 pm, but it’s important to note that the mayor of a big city understands that bikes are a solution in the urban clutter and not the problem. BIKERS VS. ISIS: “NETHERLANDS OKAYS BIKER GANGS TO FIGHT ISLAMIC STATE” The Dutch public prosecutor has announced that “motorbike gang members” who have joined Kurds battling the Islamic State group are not necessarily committing any crime. Members of the infamous ‘No Surrender’ motorcycle club are fighting against Islamic State militants in northern Iraq, and public prosecutor spokesman Wim de Bruin told the AFP news service, “Joining a foreign armed force was previously punishable, now it’s no longer forbidden.” Many countries including the Netherlands have been clamping down on their nationals trying to join ISIS jihadists who have taken over swathes of Iraq and Syria. Measures include confiscating would-be jihadists’ passports before travelling and threatening prosecution should they return. “You just can’t join a fight against the Netherlands,” he told AFP after reports emerged that the Dutch bikers were fighting ISIS insurgents alongside Kurdish troops in the Middle East. In November 1965, Ralph “Sonny” Barger of the Hells Angels MC sent a letter to President Lyndon Johnson at the White House offering tactical support for the war effort: “I volunteer a group of loyal Americans for behind-the-line duty in Vietnam. We are available for training and duty immediately.” AIM-2622-F-Ad for Tennessee.indd 1
SNITCH ALERT -- AUSTRALIAN BIKER REWARD SYSTEM DEEMED UNSUCCESSFUL In October 2013, Police Minister in the Australian state of Queensland, Jack Dempsey, announced Queensland’s Crime Stoppers would be allocated $5 million in reward funding for information about criminal gangs or bikers. But so far only $1,150 has been paid out. Dr. Terry Goldsworthy, Bond University Criminologist, said the information being provided has not necessarily helped the crackdown on bikers. “[Crime Stoppers] have received about 1200 pieces of information,” he said. “124 offenders have been November 2014
arrested in relation to drug and property and weapon matters, 11/1/11 5:06 PM but interestingly though, only 22 people can actually be able to have shown to have any links to any criminal organizations - it’d interesting to see how many of those 22 were actually bikers.” Between 2000 and 2010 the Queensland police -- a separate organization from Crime Stoppers -- paid out $900,000 in rewards, and although figures weren’t available for Crime Stoppers, Dr. Goldsworthy said they’d be quite different to QPS figures. He said the reward campaign has not had the outcome the Government anticipated… “This reward system has been highly advertised, and to only have one successful pay out, indicates to me that I don’t think it’s a success.” WEIRD NEWS: HORMEL MOTORCYCLE RUNS ON BACON GREASE Hormel Foods Corp. headed out on the highway with a motorcycle designed to run on bacon grease. The Austin, MN-based company created a new marketing campaign in time for the International Bacon Film Festival in San Diego in late August, and rode the bacon bike from Minnesota to California. America runs on bacon, and so does this bike -- getting about 100 mpg -- and the exhaust smells like bacon! Hormel and marketing firm BBDO Minneapolis sponsored the world’s first motorcycle that runs on organic biodiesel made of refined bacon grease, and a team of 12 travelled with a rider during the trip to document the journey for a film, “Driven By Bacon,” which was shown at the film festival this year. Charlie Smithson of CSE Engineering and Taylor Bamber, Smithson’s work partner, custom designed the motorcycle based on a rare 2011 Track T-800CDI diesel model. Grease is an abundant fuel source, as hotels and restaurants in the United States generate 3 billion gallons of waste cooking oil per year, which could fill tanker trucks parked bumper-to-bumper from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. and back. Hormel representatives say the marketing push is an exciting opportunity to spread the word about Hormel’s Black Label Bacon brand and the pig-powered hog will likely be used as a promotional tool in the future. Once the film is complete, the motorcycle could be displayed at the Spam Museum. November 2014
by Bob “Bulldog” Ousley Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: Finally November is here and the real holiday season begins. I love the cool weather, the prospect of wood burning in the fireplace, deep fried turkey and all of the wonderful treats the holidays bring. It’s a time to reflect on life, family, being thankful for what you have and begin building expectations for a better year in 2015. Yes, I know. November this year kind of stumbles through the “feel good season” door due to important elections, Ebola epidemics, economic instability and terrorists taking over parts of the world. But hey!! We have a choice. We can look at the glass half full, show kindness to our fellow man and screen out some of the chaos. It’s our choice at least until the after Thanksgiving sales begin. One way to show kindness to strangers is to back the hell off someone’s bumper in rush hour traffic and give a guy a break when he’s trying to move over a lane. We have way too many idiots from around the country who are moving to Tennessee only to inflict their East coast and West coast “all about me driving rudeness” on kind hearted native “Volunteers.” Have you ever analyzed rush hour traffic? If not, it would be a worthy and enlightening exercise. If you really look at what happens the sky will open up and the sun will shine through. Native Tennesseans I expect you to understand this way before the imports do. What do you think causes rush hour traffic to slow to a snails crawl? Its drivers trying to change lanes! I say “trying” because there are a ton of out of state retentives on the road who think letting someone change lanes and get in front of them will bring disgrace from the driving fraternity or make them late to work or cause them to lose the twice a day crazy race. These are the same people who grab all the mashed potatoes before they get around the table to you. What happens when you need to get over and nobody lets you in? You start slowing down to find a place to move over so you can hit your turn off. When your car slows down the guy behind pulls up on your bumper and then space between every car November 2014
on the road goes away and you have a hundred cars all trying to beg for someone to let them move over in one direction or another. The result is a parking lot. There’s no holiday spirit in rush hour. I wish I had a nickel for every time some bumper hugger mutters, “you’re not getting in front of me you SOB!!!” People, people, people… trust the Bulldog. Believe me and try it. If you back off the car in front of you and let people into your lane without making them slow down, the overall traffic flow will move at a higher speed and you will actually get where you are going faster. I know it sound counter intuitive but it’s true. Cooperate and keep traffic up to speed. And please let the big gorillas, the tractor trailers, change lanes. If you slow them down it takes forever to get them back up to speed. Let them jam gears and keep on rollin. Naturally we motorcycle riders rise above all of this petty driving aggressiveness. I think we are just basically smarter but our driving environment also gives us a better perspective on traffic and safety. After all, we’re trained professionals! One more word about changing lanes – use your turn signals, use your turn signals and use your turn signals. Okay, that’s more than one but you get the point. When people show kindness and courtesy on the road, they arrive at work and back home with a better attitude and less stress. Fewer spouses get beaten, less people die of heart attacks, more babies are born, Christmas bonuses are bigger and harmony spreads across the world. That is the embodiment of the holiday spirit and it all started with one driver letting another driver change lanes. What could be simpler and more generous? Of course this is only for driving on the roads and does not apply to lines at Walmart. Give thanks for America’s veterans on November 11th, Veterans Day, and enjoy all the blessings of the holidays. I can taste the turkey and dressing already. Thank you in advance for letting me move over in rush hour. Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those can’t. Bulldog * My monthly column reflects my personal point of view and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Publishers of this magazine, but they, like me, acknowledge the sacrifices made for the privilege of Freedom of Speech, therefore, they gratefully let me rant. Thank you for reading my rants. Hope my opinions don’t offend anyone, but, we all should be grateful for the right to have free opinions.

The convoy will line up at Coffee Middle School located on Hwy 55 & I -24 in Manchester on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4. All show entries will register at the school and will lead the convoy behind the emergency vehicles. There is a $10.00 show entry and $5.00 to ride entry. Everyone is asked to please fly the American and or Confederate flag and bring a new toy for the under privileged kids in the area. The toys will be distributed thru Tullahoma Fire Department, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department , and Bedford Co Sheriff’s Department. ALL vehicles large and small are WELCOME to participate. A car- motorcycle-4x4 and truck show will follow with trophies awarded to the winners. Katy & Virgil Ishee organizers of the convoy are both excited to be celebrating 17 years. Katy will be autographing her book Pieces of My Heart that has been featured centerfold in Southern Biker Magazine, Thunder Road Magazine, and Full Throttle Magazine. Two years ago the American Legion riders have joined with Christian Motorcycle Association and volunteers to keep the convoy rolling. It is the largest convoy of its type that invites ALL vehicles. Hot rods, motorcycles, trucks, jeeps, SUVs, semis, big trucks and jalopies. You don’t need to drive/ride anything special, just a good heart. The local businesses have been great about donating door prizes to give away. This is the largest toy drive in this Southern middle Tn. We have had people from 6 states come in to ride in this legendary convoy that draws people from 1 year old to 94 years old. Vendors are welcome to set up. Please contact Katy Ishee 931-857-3643 for more info.
