Ohio Bike Week The Midwest’s Largest Motorcycle Event!

he biggest story of this year’s rally really centers around the continued development of the Broken Spoke Saloon and Erie County Fairgrounds as a focal point of Bike Week for the first weekend. This year, Memorial Weekend is much more of a dynamic kickoff to the Rally and THE PARTY is at the Fairgrounds. With the development of expanded programming throughout the week there, we hope to see the campground at the Erie County Fairgrounds become more of a draw as well. The idea of having concerts, vendors, camping and a “bar or two” all in one location is pretty appealing. Folks can ride during the day and then generally make their way back to the Fairgrounds to wrap up their day. For those looking to let loose and have some fun, being able to enjoy a great concert, then wander over to a bar and then to a tent to crash is pretty much a home run and all they are looking for. That’s a recipe that has worked quite well for the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, recently Cackleberry in Daytona, and hopefully the fairgrounds here at Ohio Bike Week. Even if you’re laying your head down elsewhere, the Broken Spoke is the place to end your day during the Rally.

The first big concert of the week is held at Toledo Harley-Davidson – as they have kicked things off the last several years. Night Ranger comes out to celebrate their 35th Anniversary with a tour stop in Toledo. This is a great party and always draws a huge crowd to the dealership. With a massive portable stage erected, the Bike Week crew transforms the back lot into a true concert venue for the night. Then when the show is over, they bring it all out to Sandusky as the focus shifts there. On Saturday, May 27th, the Erie County Fairgrounds in Sandusky play host to 38 Special followed by country recording artist, John Michael Montgomery on Sunday, May 28th. Earlier on each day, the legendary David Allan Coe performs at the Mad River HarleyDavidson Campus. The focus there, this year, is on earlier concerts and then shifting the party elsewhere – such as the fairgrounds or downtown with the World Famous Block Party. OBW mainstays – Jackyl once again kick off the downtown festivities on Thursday, June 1st with their FREE concert. That’s followed up by another FREE concert with Grand Funk Railroad on Saturday, June 3rd. Of course, those of you with the VIP Tickets or All-Access Passes will have a chance to enjoy the shows front and center. Both of these are available online at www.OhioBikeWeek.com, for the time being. If you want to get either, though, we would encourage you order your tickets or

passes today. Ticket quantities for all national acts are limited by contract in most cases, and Ohio Bike Week is no exception – especially when it comes to the bigger ones you want to see. So, even if it might seem as though they could create VIP tickets all day long, they are actually restricted. Popular local establishments such as The Pump and The Original Margaritaville, as well as The Jack Daniels Barrelhouse Saloon on the waterfront feature live entertainment all weekend and provide plenty of fun for those attending the first weekend. Of course this a BIKE WEEK, so it would be great if we could all get a little wind in our hair in addition to all the concerts and festivities. Thankfully, themed rides run all week with daily rides from Mad River Harley-Davidson and numerous local runs supporting worthwhile causes as well. Traditional rides such as the Tuesday Prison Ride and Kelley’s Island Poker Run on Wednesday are extremely popular and always draw a crowd. The Jesse James Celebrity Charity Ride takes place on Thursday and takes on a local cause by focusing on the needs of a terminally ill local single mother (Madison Brenton) with two young children. The ride seeks to help raise funds for a much needed lung transplant. Once again, the local ownership and focus on the community is evident in these and other aspects of the Rally.

Friday’s Winery Tour continues to become more and more popular, hitting several local wineries and now benefits the local Biker Memorial Fund. The Annual B.A.A.N.C. Owen Barker Memorial Run leaves the Knucklehead Saloon on Sunday, May 28th and supports the work of local riders to help children in need. It’s a great, boots on the ground organization that we strongly recommend supporting.

These are just a few of the countless things for people to see and do while taking part in Ohio Bike Week. There are so many other things that we could discuss, including the Ohio Flags of Honor display, the custom builder displays and Bike Show, and of course the Thunder Roads / Ohio Bike Week Bikini Contest – to name just a few! and see. It is THE MIDWEST’S LARGEST MOTORCYCLE EVENT with good reason!

I’m an Ohio Biker and this is our home state rally, but that’s not the only reason why Ohio Bike Week is easily one of my favorite rallies anywhere – and it’s not just because I’m a homer or that we work with them. Quite the contrary, we enjoy working with Ohio Bike Week because of how they run their event! The folks at OBW have always taken the approach that they will throw a HUGE PARTY – and the crowds will take care of them by spending their own money as they see fit. The vast majority of the shows and entertainment is FREE – and those few things requiring admission are more than reasonably priced. The OBW masterminds have always believed that if they offer fair prices and a good product – in the form of quality entertainment in a cool setting, riders will support the rally. While you’re enjoying the rally, we ask that you make

The Bike Week Pool Party! THE PARTY JUST KEEPS GROWING EVERY YEAR! Thunder Roads Ohio’s own IRON COWBOY will be hosting the Official Ohio Bike Week Pool Party & Calendar Girl Contest at the Comfort Inn on Thursday, June 1st. This year we’ve teamed up with RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS to kick things up to a whole new level, once again! The Cowboy, along with a number of our famous IRON ANGELS will keep the party rolling as they host the annual “Bikini Contest” and Calendar Search! This year they will be awarding over $2,500 in cash and prizes – including over $500 in cash to the finalists. Additional prizes include Bike Week Prize packages, hotel stays, professional photo shoots, and of course swag from the sponsors! There are also prize opportunities for those in attendance this year. TRO will be hosting several contests and games on the deck – as well as in the water with the “Annual Bike Week Cannonball Contest”. The event is also a Buckeye Thunder Run Stop so Ride Card holders have a chance to win prizes just for “checking in”. Prizes include OBW VIP Concert Passes and the chance to win one of 6 motorcycles being awarded this year!

Jesse James Dupree, from Jackyl and the Full Throttle TV Show, will again be our special guest as his Annual Charity Ride ends poolside. Each year the arrival of hundreds of bikes from this popular ride always pushes things over the top – and you never know what celebrities will be joining Jesse on his ride. The Bikini Party is a Bike Week tradition that has evolved into one of the most popular events of the week, with it standing-room-only 2 hours before the actual contest the last several years. The rock band SCHOOL GIRL CRUSH, from Cleveland, returns to once again rock the house after last year’s debut. Leader singer Michelle Andree Mitchell and the band seemed a perfect fit for the party – working seamlessly with the TRO Crew to entertain the crowd! As everyone returns for a second pairing, it’s sure to be even better this year.
