FROM THE PUBLISHER I’d like to thank you for taking the time to pick up our magazine or visit us online. Thunder Roads Ohio is a grass roots organization focused on supporting the local motorcycle community by promoting local events and businesses. We publish the NATION’S LARGEST REGIONAL MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE with the support of our sponsors and various partners. We are a family owned business that works with charities and volunteers all across the Midwest with the belief that we can make a difference by supporting great organizations and the causes they support. We believe that a strong active motorcycle community is the key to protecting our right to ride and the future of our sport. We believe that the spirit of the open road and sense of brotherhood that lives within true riders is a wonderful thing that we should pass on to new riders – both young and new. We believe that while it can be a great time riding on our own – it’s the sense of comradery and experience of riding in a group that really empowers us. We believe that as riders – we can make a difference in the world by gathering and riding in support of causes that matter. As a business we actively promote hundreds of local rides and events each year. We work with volunteers and local representatives in communities all across Ohio to help both small rides hosted by folks trying to make a difference as well as larger organizations hosting some of the largest motorcycle events in the country. Ohio is one of the largest and most active riding communities in the country – despite us being a “cold weather state”. We host some of the nation’s premier motorcycle events every year and rank amongst the top in almost every category when it comes to riders. As Ohio’s Motorcycle Magazine – we believe that we have a special responsibility to inform riders of where to go and who to support. We don’t blindly accept advertising or lend our support to every event. We do our best to sort out the ones worth attending and the organizations that aren’t really doing what they say they are. We aren’t perfect and sometimes we discover along the way that things aren’t always what they seem. It still amazes us when we discover that even some of the largest organizations or businesses sometimes lose sight of what really matters – and that’s the local rider and the causes we support. We believe in our nation, those that serve and protect us – abroad and locally, and helping those in need. We believe in being heard – whether it’s our voice or the rumble of our engines – and we will support the causes that matter. It’s not about political parties or any of the divisive issues that seem to be thrust upon us in an effort to cause constant turmoil. We, as riders, understand that we are all in this journey together. We are all brothers and sisters out on the open road – and we need to support each other.

2018 TRO Championship Bike Show Series Underway Presented by RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS and VIVID JEWELERS Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop local and regional Bike Shows as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out, though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues that have often showcased bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields (The Devil’s Staircase, Oregonia). Throughout we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates. For 2018, Thunder Roads Ohio will host our most extensive schedule ever of Bike Shows – ranging from local community shows and Bike Night Shows, to festivals and rallies, and culminating in our Championship Shows. Throughout all of them, our goal is to showcase the bikes and the passion their owners have for them. We encourage everyone to participate in the Bike Shows and have fun with them.

Thunder Roads Ohio is proud to announce that this year’s Bike Show Series will culminate with a CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW – to be held as part of Ohio Bike Week over Memorial Weekend in 2019. The best of the best, from bike shows all across the Midwest will be invited to participate in this invitational bike show and compete for over $10,000 in cash and prizes – including the Championship Builder Ring – custom made by Lenny Strnad of Vivid Jewelers in Bay Village (www.VividJewelers.com)
“It only makes sense that Ohio Bike Week would host the Championship Bike Show,” commented Derek Smith, publisher of Thunder Roads Ohio. “Ohio Bike Week brings riders from throughout the Midwest and is a great chance to kick off the riding season by recognizing the best of the winter and previous year’s shows.”
“By hosting the Championship Bike Show and showcasing not only the bikes themselves but an expanded emphasis on the builders and shops as well – Ohio Bike Week is re-affirming that we are the Midwest’s LARGEST MOTORCYCLE EVENT – not just a music festival,” commented Brad Stofcheck, from Advantage Entertainment – the hosts of Ohio Bike Week.
The Best of Show Winners from each of the TRO Championship Bike Shows will automatically earn an invitation to the OHIO BIKE WEEK Invitational Bike Show in Sandusky. Top scoring bikes from the series will be reviewed and also earn invitations as the Top Bikes in their classes. At the show, a system utilizing weighted judges scores and the votes from those attending will determine the BEST in

“The move also helps support our renewed commitment to support Ohio Bike Week and their efforts to build on their Bike Show.” In 2018, TRO and Ohio Bike Week moved the Bike Show downtown and hosted it right on the water at the Barrel House Pier – with the awards then being presented on the main stage in the back lot. It was a great chance to showcase some amazing bikes and really created a spectacle that everyone enjoyed. Looking towards 2019, the event organizers and TRO seek to continue building on the Bike Show aspect of the rally by creating an expanded shop

THE TRO BIKE SHOWS As motorcyclists, bikers, or whatever you want to call yourselves – our bikes are often our pride and joy. In many cases, We spend hours after hours, and often dollars after dollars making them our own personal ride. With all that time and effort, why not bring them out and showcase what you’ve done? To that end, we present the Thunder Roads Ohio Bike Show Series. The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are encouraged to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “resto-mods”, trikes, and radicals – they are all welcome to the show. Each bike show is also a qualifier for our Championship Shows – both the State Show and the National Championship Show which has been held as part of the I-X Piston Power Show the last several years. The vast majority of these shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning that the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road. Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include the “people’s choice” as well as a professional eye – preventing it just being a popularity contest. Some shows, though, are Judged Shows – with the guest votes simply going towards the People’s Choice Awards. All Thunder Roads Shows feature trophies and placards to recognize the bikes and winners, with special prizes being added in some shows in consideration of the location and hosts. The Best of Show Bikes and TOP Class Winners from the Bike Show Series are then invited to take part in the Championship Shows. This year’s shows will feature a broader range of classes including CUSTOM and RADICAL BAGGERS, GARAGE BUILDS, TRIKES, as well as VINTAGE, CUSTOM PAINT, and IMPORT categories. All will compete on the by the water, as the show is being held once more downtown on Sunday, For more information and to register, visit ThunderRoadsOhio.com. CUSTOM PAINT! TRO SCAVENGER HUNT
The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! Ohio Bike Week Bike Show
The TRO Bike Show Series kicks off on the North Coast
Thunder Roads Ohio hosted the 2018 Ohio Bike Week – Official Bike Show in downtown Sandusky right on the Barrel House Pier. Bikes came in from all across state and Midwest – with one entry even coming all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada. By the time the judging started and the ballots were passed out, virtually every inch of the display area was packed with outstanding show bikes! In the end, 18 motorcycles were recognized as the Best in Class, Judges Choice, and BEST of SHOW. Local Exhibitor, Randy Smith from Port Clinton took home the People’s Choice for his Award Winning Road Glide which had previously won the TRO BEST IN SHOW Award in Erie and numerous other awards prior to coming to Sandusky. Donn Ogilvie, from Canal Winchester, took home the OHIO BIKE WEEK – BEST IN SHOW AWARD and the TRO / OBW Championship Ring. Our thanks to Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys (www.RussBrown.com) for sponsoring both the 2018 TRO Championship Bike Show Series and Ohio Bike Week. They are clearly committed to supporting the local riding community and events such as these. Thank you. The Ring Lenny Strnad of Vivid Jewelers (www. Rolling Thunder Unaccounted For is Unacceptable The title really says it all. While the numbers for exactly how many of our men and women are “unaccounted” for varies depending on the source you read, one fact still remains…one is too many. And truly, that is what Rolling Thunder is all about. Rolling Thunder is not your average ride or rally. Started 31 years ago, its sole mission is to demonstrate to Washington and bring awareness to the public that many courageous men and women, who wrote that ultimate check for our freedoms, have not yet come home. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of catching up with old friends and making new ones but the overall “air” of the event is rather solemn and a bit somber. A fitting date to take place, Rolling Thunder is held Memorial Day weekend as those who have gathered memorialize and pay tribute to the fallen. Promptly at noon, after a ceremonial send off, the Thunder can be heard. A thunder that overtakes the lots of the Pentagon and resonates through the National Mall for the next few hours, as hundreds of thousands rumble through our nation’s capital. We ride for those who can’t. Even though this is my second year attending, nothing really prepares you for the waves of emotion that inevitably happen on the

route. One such moment was passing an older gentleman, waving a small American flag, and giving a “thumbs up” to the riders, suddenly putting a hand to cover his eyes, bent over, overtaken by emotion. Or the event long salute by United States Marine Corps Veteran Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers, who for the last 15 years has been a part of Rolling Thunder. While it’s true that many along the route are simply tourists thinking this is nothing more than a parade, the large number know why this is taking place and the support is undeniable, as is the patriotism. While I myself didn’t serve, I am deeply thankful for each and every one that has, is or will and I use the means I have to honor them. So, for those whom we haven’t got back yet, you’re not forgotten. For those that have, and more for those who didn’t get it properly…Welcome Home. Respectfully, Mike Hartung Headstone Photography

ABATE OF OHIO, INC.
COB REPORT Hi Friends, Well the riding season is at about the half way point and we have made a big turn for the worst. In last month’s article I reported 288 crashes and 4 fatalities for 2018 to date. Now it is 717 crashes and 24 fatalities compared to 655 crashes and 18 fatalities to date in 2017. I have been looking up police reports and have found that it is taking longer to find reports because officers are taking longer to file reports. When I broke down some of the facts, alcohol seems to be running high in both crashes and fatalities. Folks PLEASE curb your consumption when you are riding. With the fatalities at 24, Franklin County has 6, Hamilton County has 3 and the remaining 15 are spread out over the rest of the counties. Now what can we do as bikers to try and fix this? It would be a great start to get everyone trained. Remember 55.6% of crashes are single vehicle crashes. More than half the time we do it to ourselves. Before every ride, check your motorcycle and make sure it is ready for the ride. It is time to check your tires for air pressure and tread. We need to slow down, scan ahead and ride defensively. As we are the group that is Dedicated to the Preservation of Motorcycling, we have been asked to set on a Task Force Council to find a way to stop distracted driving. It’s being headed by our friend Michelle May from ODOT. We will be having meetings about every two months, so I will be giving you updates as we go along. Motorcycle Ohio is giving training courses every weekend so get signed up and take the course. When I see someone that is having a hard time maneuvering his bike and the time is right, I talk to them about the course and how it benefits even experienced riders. You can get help and you will enjoy riding a lot more. To sign up for a course anywhere in the state go online to motorcycle.ohio.gov. All the information is there, or 1-800-83 RIDER. Let’s get out and ride to an ABATE event. Join ABATE. We need you to help keep us riding Free and ride SMART. Ride Within Your Limits 16 16

SAFETY REPORT To My ABATE Friends, Its already July and that means summer is half over, and we still have a lot to do. July is always very busy moving from event to event and getting some casual riding in with everyday life. When this magazine comes out we will be at Freedom Rally. Hope I’m seeing you there. Everyone, please support your region events because that is what keeps ABATE going. Ohio Bike Rally was a little different this year. It was only five days over Memorial Day weekend. We had very good weather for the most part. I don’t like saying that it was too hot, but I will say it was HOT! I want to thank everyone that came out and helped man the trailer and sell products. Each person helped make it a success. Region 7 - thank you for being there. We moved off the busy corner and went to the middle of the midway at Margaritaville. The Raffle Bike was next to us and Jim had his crew there selling tickets. We all worked great together and spoke to a lot of people about the ABATE organization. I have been working with different groups on how we can make our roads safer and bring more awareness to the motorcycle lifestyle. The questions that I get asked the most is who are we? And what do we do? American Bikers Aimed Towards Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rights, improving the image, and promoting the safe operating practices of Ohio motorcyclists. First and foremost is that we are an organization, not a club or riding group. We represent all types, ages and genders. We don’t care what type of motorcycle you ride. We work as one body throughout the state and with other states to preserve our rights, improve our image and practice safe riding.
THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM
Other goals we have are hosting events for our members and friends, fund raising for worthy charities and PROMOTING ABATE. We monitor legislative activity regarding laws affecting motorcycling, especially ones that affect our lifestyle and freedom. We all need to work together, and support ABATE if we are going to keep striving for motorcycle safety, keep our freedom to ride whatever we want and to dress however we want. As motorcyclists we all need to support the MRF, our federal organization and AMA, and our worldwide organization as well. As my last note - every Region and member please get out and sell Bike Raffle Tickets. This is money for your Region. Every ticket you sell puts money into your account. Please don’t miss out on this.

CMA Where Is The Safest Place To Be? As we consider this question I know in the eyes of man there are several reasonable answers depending on our circumstances. In case of a rain storm while riding some would say “in a cager.” During the larger city rush hour traffic some would say “in a restaurant so while riding you don’t have to worry about the traffic.” During a hurricane in the south some would say “up north.” During a tornado some would say “in the bathtub or in the basement.” I heard a wonderful message by Dr. David Lattimer regarding this very question but he asked a couple other questions that need to be considered as well. What’s the worst place to be? Where do you want your focus to be? What does Heaven look like? Most of us have probably thought about one of these questions someplace along our life’s journey.
take refuge in You.” NASB. To answer this question let’s look at “for I take refuge in You.” Refuge in God – there is no safer place to be. To have a refuge in God we must be close to God and have a relationship with God. Knowing about or of God is not the same. Having a relationship with God is the answer. This means we allow God to have control of our lives--not in part, but control of all of our lives. Even in the mist of the storm, the safest place to be is close to God. How close are you? Is it time to draw closer? There’s no better time than right now. GR (Jerry) Niver CMA Ohio State Coordinator
As we live our lives it is very important for us to consider the answer to some of these questions. Why, one might ask? The answer would be, because it will impact your eternity! Let’s first consider the question, What’s the worst place to be? In doing so let’s look at Psalm 16:2, “I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good besides You.”” NASB. We need to look at the second part of the verse which states, “I have no good besides You.” In and of ourselves, there is no good in us. Outside of God we may have a form of righteousness or good actions, but outside of God being in us we have no good in us. The worst place to be is away or separated from God. The next question, Where do you want your focus to be? Oh, I can just hear some of the answers on this one. Let’s look at verse 8 of Psalms 16, “I have set the LORD continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” NASB. Looking at the first part of this verse it clearly states, “I have set the LORD continually before me;” meaning the Psalmist, David, is putting God in front of himself or his focus is on the Lord. We cannot go wrong when we put our focus on Him. Does that mean everything will be hunky-dory? Absolutely not. Look at David who lived as a Sheppard and anointed King before Saul had died. David had to take steps to protect his life several times but he still kept his focus on the Lord. What about, What does Heaven look like? Verse 11 of Psalms 16, “You will make known to me the path of life; In your presence is fullness of joy; In your right hand there are pleasures forever.” NASB. As you read this I trust you understand I am not asking about the streets of gold with many mansions but what we are going to experience there. Look at the second part, “In your presence is fullness of joy;” meaning just to be in His presence we will experience joy beyond description; joy to it’s fullness. Wow, I can hardly wait. What about the initial question, Where is the safest place to be? Verse 1 of Psalms 16 explains, “Preserve me, O God, for I 18 18

AMA VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES-MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE As I write this, it is mid-June and I am looking forward to upcoming events. Among all the charity rides and bike nights sits Vintage Motorcycles at Mid-Ohio. Now a favorite of mine and a weekend we don’t miss, I realize that until our son raced there we did not know much about what the weekend entails with the exception of the swap meet (touted as the largest motorcycle swap meet in the U.S.) There truly is something for everyone. In addition to a full weekend of racing from motocross, trials, hare scrambles, flat track and road racing, the ever-popular bike show showcases vintage motorcycles of all makes.
20
Friday, Saturday and Sunday visiting riders can sign up for the Lap For History. Take your motorcycle out on the 2.4 mile road course for a parade lap. Registration is required as well as a $10 donation to the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation. The Ashland Dinner Ride benefits the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. A $45 donation includes the ride, dinner at the track and grandstand seats for AMA Flat Track Racing. A pit pass is included so you can get up close and personal with teams and racers. (You can register for the ride at www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com)

NEW FOR 2018: MORE STOPS! MORE PRIZES! YEAR ROUND STOPS! SIMPLE DIGITAL CHECK-IN’S! “MAKE YOUR OWN RIDE STOPS!” PRESENTED BY RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS Thunder Roads Ohio (TRO) is proud to present the 2018 BUCKEYE THUNDER RUN - a state-wide, summer-long riding challenge hitting the coolest riding destinations and events across Ohio, presented by RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS! This is a riding challenge like no-other and features great prizes every month that you earn by simply getting out to ride!
MORE WAYS TO WIN!
Checking in at Ride Stops! Designated Ride Stops are listed at ThunderRoadsOhio.com and featured throughout each issue of Thunder Roads Ohio. These stops are selected based upon the recommendations of our readers and confirmed by our editors. ALL STOPS have been screened by our Editors and are places we feel comfortable recommending to you. We never simply add a stop because they are willing to write a check. Riders can then hit these locations and present their Rider Cards in order to register at each stop. Most will have Ride Stop Clipboard for you to sign in on. You simply have to write down your Ride Card #, your name, and your zip code. It’s that easy. Once a Rider has registered at the stop - their Card number is then entered into the drawing for that stop. Thunder Roads will then select rider checks-in’s randomly each month from across the state for special prizes and incentives.
Checking in at TRO Tour Stops!
Throughout the year, the TRO ROAD CREW will be hitting rides, rallies, bike shows, and various events throughout the state – and beyond! In some cases the CREW will be attending national rallies and other events throughout the Midwest – including Michigan and Pennsylvania motorcycle events. Anywhere the TRO CREW is at – instantly becomes a RIDE STOP! There is a listing of Tour Stops in the magazine and online each month. You can sign in on the Ride Stop Clipboard, just like a regular Ride Stop.
“MAKE YOUR OWN RIDE STOP!” – NEW FOR 2018! For 2018, we’ve added another option to WIN – by which Riders can recommend a RIDE STOP by simply “Checking-In” through their facebook account with the hashtag #TRO. Within the post, BTR Riders should say that they are “Making this their Ride Stop” and that we should also. You can also include why – and even do it all within in a posted video as well. Special prizes each month are allocated for these check-in’s and the stop itself can win – if applicable. Selected “MAKE YOUR OWN RIDE STOP’s” have a chance to win up to $5,000 in prizes – and each posting increases their chances to win! In such cases, the person(s) nominating the Stop with their check-in is also eligible for additional prizes as well.
$500 Amazon® Gift Card to be awarded to a chosen Rider nominating a Winning Stop with their check-in!
RIDERS CAN CHECK IN THROUGH THEIR SMART PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA!
IT’S NOT MANDATORY, BUT THIS ALLOWS INSTANT CHECK-IN’s AND INSTANT PRIZES! FOR THOSE THAT PREFER OLD SCHOOL, YOU CAN STILL CHECK IN WITH THE BOARDS. And it’s SIMPLE – 1. TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF, YOUR BIKE, YOUR CREW, AT THE LOCATION. 2. HOLD YOUR RIDE CARD UP, WITH YOUR NUMBER VISIBLE TO MAKE TRACKING EASIER. 3. POST THE PICTURE TO YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT WITH THE LOCATION CHECK IN AND #TRO 4. It’s that simple.

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE
Prizes are developed by both Thunder Roads and our sponsors - allowing for some exciting options. They may include stays at exciting locations, riding gear or accessories, gift certificates, cash, rally passes, concert tickets, and even the opportunity to win factory and custom motorcycles! The beauty and simplicity of this program is that anyone can win with any check-in, but your chances of winning are increased by the amount you ride! The dedicated rider treking across the state has a greater chance of accumulating prizes - but the couple that can only get out a few days a month to ride can also win! Every check-in counts as an entry in the "drawing" - so if you hit 40 stops in a month, you have twice as many chances of winning as someone that only hits 20. The more you ride - the more opportunities you will have to win! That's the whole idea - to encourage everyone to get out and ride!
State and Stop Prizes Every month the TRO staff will randomly select winners from the check-ins. Some prizes will be specific to the particular stop - and usually sponsored by that stop. For instance, a leather shop may award a custom leather vest to someone visiting their store during the month of June. That would be a prize specific to that stop and only riders checking in at that location would be eligible for that prize. Other prizes will be state wide, with everyone checking in at any location eligible to win!
The Winners If your check-in is drawn, Thunder Roads will post your card number on our website and sometimes in the magazine as well. both online and in the magazine. Riders will then have at least 45 days to "claim" their prizes. For state-wide prizes, winners will often have the opportunity to select from a number of prize options. For instance, a rider might have the option of winning an Ohio Bike Week Rally Package that includes accommodations and extras for attending North Coast Thunder Rally. If that rider isn't able to take advantage of that prize - they might opt for a Premium Leather Jacket or Gift Certificate instead. Not all prizes are exchangeable. • • • •
Riders are able to win multiple prizes - based upon the drawing of their check-in's. Some prize drawings are specific to only check-in's for the particular month - while others prizes are drawn from check-in's season long. ALL CHECK-IN's remain in the system for end of the season prizes! Riders are able to check-in once a week at a stop (Monday-Sunday)
SOCIAL MEDIA WINNERS
Each month, the TRO Crew will randomly select WINNERS that have checked in through their social media with the #TRO hashtag. If their Ride Card is visible, we will register the Card Number as a winner and possibly send notification through email. In most cases, though, we will contact through your social media and the winning post. Digital winners have 15 days to contact TRO in regards to the prizes. In some cases, there may be less time due to constraints regarding the prize(s) – such as tickets for a particular concert.
For 2018, Thunder Run Riders have the chance to win 6 different motorcycles, Sturgis Buffalo Chip Passes, hundreds of tickets to concerts and some of the most exciting motorcycle events in the state, and countless other great prizes!
BONUS Check-in's!
The 2018 Buckeye Thunder Run is supported by our sponsors, so we want to encourage everyone to support them in turn. For that reason, we will issue a BONUS CHECK-IN to riders spending $10 or more at Official Ride Stops. The bonus criteria may be adjusted at some stops to accommodate riders on particulars of that stop. Specifics of each stop will be listed each month in Thunder Roads as part of the Stop Listing.
It's really that simple!
1. Get your Ohio Ride Card. 2. Get the list of stops each month from your Thunder Roads Magazine, the website (ThunderRoadsOhio.com), or facebook. 3. Ride out to these stops and show them your card or check in with the #TRO Hashtag on social media. 4. And then you win cool prizes, including cold hard CASH!

The first step will be for riders to register for their Thunder Roads Ohio Ride Cards. A number of select locations will serve as Registration Centers. Riders can easily register at these points – free of charge. They will then receive their Ride Cards.
You can request a Ride Card through our website!
You can now go online and register for your Thunder Run Ride Card through our website – www.ThunderRoadsOhio.com. Simply head to the TRO Online Store and order your Ride Card. There is a $5 convenience fee for this option – but ALL PROCEEDS are applied to our Warrior Fund, sponsoring charitable motorcycle events and organizations across Ohio.
PLEASE NOTE - You can still use your previous Ride Cards. All Ride Card registrations carry over, however you are welcome to pick up a new shiny one if you’d like.
Thunder Roads will also be registering riders for Ride Cards at specific events throughout the year as we distribute magazines. Key events, such as Ohio Bike Week or Bike Nights will have special booth for Ride Card registrations. In most cases, we will be offering special incentives both for those registering for the cards and those checking in with their previously issued cards at these stops. Thunder Roads will also be working with charities and various non-profit events to include them in the Run schedule as well. This will be an easy means of encouraging participation and attracting riders from outside the local communities. In many cases, we will have specific prize drawings for those at these events. The Ride Cards allow participants to easily and safely check in at all stops. Some Thunder Roads Sponsors will also be offering discounts to readers that present the cards. Thunder Roads will be listing special discounts and offers in the magazine throughout the year as an added value to readers and means of encouraging our partners to offer these extra savings.
PLEASE NOTE: Once you have received your OHIO RIDE CARD, you will not be asked to provide personal information or emails at any location for check-in. You simply enter your ride card number! One key aspect of the BTR is that we will be limiting the number of stops to a reasonable amount each month. We are NOT simply adding anyone willing to write a check. We will be considering stops recommended by our readers and editors, and we will only select those that offer a legitimate interest to riders – making them worth the ride to visit. We are not hosting the run as simply a means of supporting the magazine, but as a fun way to promote partners and cool destinations all across the state. This is not simply a “Chinese fire drill” or mad-dash across the state. This is a Ride program. It is meant to be a means for readers to discover new riding destinations and enjoy the ride there. In fact, we have designed the program to encourage folks to break out of their local routes and trek to the furthest corners of the state.
Just Get Out and RIDE!
One of the really exciting aspects of the program is that the Buckeye Thunder Run can evolve with new stops, special prizes, and other updates throughout the year! We will be adding and dropping stops each month. Readers will be able to nominate stops, we’ll investigate them, and if we agree that it’s a suitable stop – they’ll be invited to join the run. Some stops may only run a few months – and possibly not consecutive. A cool winery in Geneva might be a stop early in the season, and then we bring them back during the harvest season! We can also modify the run if it turns out that something just isn’t working. 24

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE
We want to keep things exciting for you – the readers and riders on the run. We’re bikers and it’s all about the ride. We want to help create fun experiences for you and share some cool spots in our state. And we want to discover new spots as well, which is why we are encouraging everyone to nominate their favorite riding destinations. Again this is not simply a sales tool for us or meant to subsidize the magazine! We have designed this run to entertain and challenge our readers – as well as promote our partners. As with the magazine itself, the Buckeye Thunder Run is presented through the support of our sponsors and partners all across the state. We have secured several key sponsorships already, but opportunities remain. If your business would like to get involved, this is a great way to promote yourself all across the state in a positive manner. Even if your organization is not a riding destination you might become a sponsor for the tremendous promotional value it offers through the constant media attention it will receive. Obviously this will be a heavy focus within the magazine but we are also working with radio and other media outlets to help spread awareness of the run. Sponsors are able to tap into this network and enjoy great exposure. Sponsors also have the opportunity to team up with Thunder Roads to help promote various charity events across the state. The Buckeye Thunder Run is a great vehicle to help promote non-profit events in communities all across the state. Thunder Roads is involved in countless charitable events all across the state already – but with the support of our sponsors, we will be able to assist even more. Partners can assist in the sponsorship of specific events, areas of concern (such as breast cancer, child abuse, or animal shelters), or other specific areas. For more information on sponsorship, please email us at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com Of course one of the key components in this whole program, second only to the riders themselves, is the stops. The Thunder Roads team has spent a lot of time collecting nominations and researching stops for the Run; but there are undoubtedly plenty of more stops out there. If you have a venue or event that you would like to get involved in the run, please don’t hesitate to let us know about it. If it’s your place, we will get in touch shortly with more information on the run and what’s involved. If you are recommending a spot for someone else – we will reach out to them and let them know they have been nominated. If you can suggest a contact person, that can help expedite the process. You can send information to BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com or call 440-678-8608.
As we mentioned, this is a dynamic event – intended to be tweaked and developed over time. If you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns – please don’t hesitate to let us know. You can email us at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com

“Wheelin’ Your Way to Wayne County” Greetings from Sturgis, South Dakota, a place that “wakes up” one week out of the year as loud pipes thunder down main street. The beauty of the Black Hills makes for picturesque backdrops to hold your memories, but regardless of where you’re planning to ride this summer, some of the best places are often found in our own backyard. This month we are featuring Wayne County. Easily accessible from State Route 83, 250, and I-30, Wayne County boasts one of a kind local attractions, restaurants and family owned businesses and great scenic routes. Are you wanting to ride and looking for a starter bike? Visit All Season’s Sport Center at 2700 Akron Road in Wooster. They are the area’s leading motorsports store for recreational vehicles, service, repair, maintenance, or parts you’ve been looking for. Another ride stop you may not have considered before is P Graham Dunn. You can’t miss the 160,000 sq. ft. red roof facility as you drive east on I-30 near SR 94 for an ice cream stop at the Dalton Dari-ette. The store is located minutes away from the farm that has housed 7 generations. Tucked into the manufacturing facility is a 20,000 square foot retail store. Guests enter the massive two-story lobby where they are greeted by a grand staircase. Large ornate plaques adorn the walls, scripture is carved into the crown molding, and the lobby houses one of Ohio’s largest indoor murals. “Wheel” over to the Village of Smithville on SR 585. This historic town is home to Mishler Weaving Mill. Mishler Weaving Mill is an operating textile weaving mill using original mechanical looms-- the oldest of which dates from 1895. Antique mechanical looms are used to weave dishcloths, place mats, and table runners. Hand looms are used to weave rag rugs, rag place mats, and dish towels. The Pioneer Village includes a Pioneer Log Cabin, Sheller Log House, Village Pottery, Village Blacksmith/Wheelwright Shop, LyDo Barn Exhibit, Spring House and Tin Shop. Operating hours are available by calling 330-669-9308.

Sport Touring Corner By Norm Kern, TRO Contributor
Dual-Sport and Adventure Riding A typical dual-sport bike is the Suzuki DRZ400. It has a 400cc, 39 hp engine, about 12 inches suspension of travel and weighs about 320 pounds. Introduced in 2000, it is still in production and remains very popular today.
Dual-sport riding got its start in the 1980s as a recreational offshoot of American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) enduro racing competition. Enduros, which have a rich history in the Ohio region, are a timed rally where the objective is to maintain a specific average speed-- usually 24 MPH. They are scored by having checkpoints along the route with points deducted for being early or late. The course, which is marked with cardboard arrows on trees, is typically difficult single-track off-road trails connected by dirt and some paved roads. Serious dirt bikes, with mufflers, lights and license plates, have been the enduro bikes of choice since the 1960s. Not all the entrants wanted to race-- many riders entered enduros simply for the opportunity to ride great trails, many of which were located on private property and normally off-limits. As riders got older, many wanted less demanding routes, keeping the fun stuff and bypassing the “hero” sections- basically an easier, un-scored enduro. The AMA started offering a national series of “Dual-Sport” riding events in the mid 1980s, the name referring to the mix of both on and off-road riding. Nearly all dual-sport bikes at that time were lightweight enduro-style bikes of 250400cc. The series continues today with sixteen two-day events around the country ranging from 200-500 miles in length for 2018. BMW Creates a new style of riding In 1980, BMW introduced their approach to the off-road/road concept with the R80G/S (Gelande Sport) model. The 800cc opposed 46 46
twin with shaft drive seemed outlandish to enduro and dual-sport riders at the time. BMW entered GS bikes in the Paris-Dakar rally, did fairly well with them, winning the bike class in 1981, and 83-85. Even with that success, riding big bikes off road took a long time to catch on. I remember in 1993 when four BMW R100GS riders showed up at the Land Between the Lakes AMA Dual-Sport ride in Kentucky. Having ridden the difficult event several times, I could not see them finishing. Sure enough, I passed two of them on a muddy hill about fifteen miles out on the first day- they were sitting in the middle of the trail with their wheels sunk in the mud and their cylinders flat on the ground. A small army of riders pulled them out and got them to the road. By lunch time they had all dropped out.
DRZ400 rider on a Jeep trail near Green River, UT What does a dual-sport bike have to do with sport-touring? Everything! Riding a light, responsive bike on the winding back roads of a rural mountain area is a special thrill. Sophisticated, long travel suspension provides comfort and control, especially on roads with lumpy or broken pavement. Even better is that when the road turns to dirt or gravel, you don’t have to turn around. You just keep going, opening another whole world of fun and exploration.
Fast forward to 2004 when the TV series Long Way Round aired, featuring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman riding BMW R1200GS bikes literally around the world. They caught the imagination of many and made “Adventure Riding” into a big thing. Dual-Sport versus Adventure Riding Dual-Sport Riding is typically done on lighter, more capable dirt bikes. It frequently includes single-track trail, difficult climbs and descents, large rocks, sand, deep water crossings etc. Dual-sport riding is most often done in loops, starting and ending at the same point in a single day. The main reason for this is that lighter bikes are not well-suited for carrying camping gear, luggage etc, needed for multi-day rides.

Forest Service road in Appalachian Mountains, NC Adventure Riding is usually done on bikes of 650cc and above, and when riding big adventure bikes such as the BMW R1200Gs or KTM 1090 Adventure R, most riders prefer dirt and gravel roads, avoiding most single-track trails. Why would you want to handicap yourself with a bigger heavier bike? Continued on p.48

Ohio’s Biggest and Best SportTouring Rally is coming to Marietta, Ohio, August 20-26, sponsored by Thunder Roads Ohio Marietta, Ohio is located on the Ohio River in the southeast corner of Ohio, where the Appalachian Mountain region begins. It’s filled with rolling terrain and beautiful farming countryside. The roads are a nice mix of turns and elevation changes. Just across the river is West Virginia, with its own collection of great roads. Fly-By Week is the successor to the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) Mail-Pouch Fly-By, a weekend rally that ran for the past twenty years. It was originally named for the many Mail Pouch Tobacco-painted barns in the region, that rally attendees “fly-by” on their sport-touring bikes. Fly-By Week retains our friendly hotel venue, a great selection of fun routes, and our outdoor rider lounge behind the hotel with chairs, tables, and pop-ups where attendees can gather and socialize.
Food- Since many attendees arrive on Friday, there will be a Friday evening cookout, featuring brats and other casual food. For Saturday, dinner is on your own so those who want to ride a long route don’t have to hurry to get back to the hotel, which has complete dining and a well-stocked bar on the premises. There is also an excellent Mexican restaurant that’s an easy five-minute walk with no street crossings. Dinner Tours- Earlier in the week when attendance is light, enjoy social time and fine dining in downtown Marietta. Adventure bikes are much better for multiday trips- they are more comfortable, able to maintain highway speeds with ease, carry all the luggage you need for a trip, etc. Today there are road/trail systems that have been developed for those who want to travel the country on dirt and gravel roads. Best known is the Trans America Trail (TAT)- ten states and 4200 miles of mostly dirt and gravel roads from coast to coast. There is also the Maine Adventure Trail from Tennessee to Maine, Kentucky Adventure Trail, etc.
very sophisticated damping, offering excellent handling, control and comfort. Handlebars are wide with an easy reach, enabling a comfortable upright riding position. There is an adjustable windshield and many accessories to provide whatever one desires for wind protection and comfort. The result is a very responsive bike for the twisties plus solid comfort for grinding out the miles on highways. The Suzuki 650 V-Strom is another exampleit’s a sport-touring bike that a lot of riders like to use as an Adventure bike. It has two full-sized headlights, a decent fairing and windshield, good fuel capacity, and more. Add a skid plate and change the tires and you get a road bike that is light and has enough suspension to be used quite effectively as an Adventure bike. All The Gear All The Time - ATGATT!
Trans-America Trail Overlap There is considerable overlap between dualsport and adventure riding and the bikes themselves. For example, on the TAT, there are both lengthy paved sections that would be tedious on a smaller bike and scattered sections of mud, steep grades, rocks and sand that are an extreme challenge for bigger bikes. Likewise, there are bikes that overlap DualSport and Adventure capabilities, such as the Husqvarna 701 enduro with 700cc, 67 hp and 340 pounds, and the Triumph Tiger 800 XC with 800cc, 94hp and 470 pounds. These bikes can be ridden in very rough terrain yet be comfortable and haul luggage long distances on the highway.
I recommend full riding gear at all times, but for adventure and especially dual-sport riding, it’s even more important. A full-face helmet (can be a dirt-bike style that permits use of goggles if you like), rugged pants with knee and hip pads, and a jacket with armor in elbows, shoulders and back should be considered the minimum. What about boots? They deserve special attention. When riding off road, your feet are in much more danger from rocks, tree stumps and other hazards. Don’t settle for anything less than an MX or adventure boot that’s at least 12 inches tall and fully armored with reinforced ankles. Boots are not the place to save a few dollars!
Connect with local Ohio MSTA riders at these monthly breakfasts: Southwest Ohio Breakfast, 9AM July 21 Village Family Restaurant 144 S. Main St. Waynesville, OH 45068 Central Ohio Breakfast, 8AM, August 5 Portside Cafe 6515 S High St Lockbourne, OH 43137

Adventure Bikes for Sport-Touring
The BMW R1200 GS is one of the most popular general sport-touring bikes. Some are surprised to find that the BMW R1200GS is not only one of the most popular big adventure bikes, but a very popular sporttouring bike as well. There are a number of reasons for this. Current models have about 125 horsepower, plenty for a sporttouring bike. Curb weight is low for a road bike- 525-550 pounds depending how it’s equipped. Suspension has long travel and 48 48

RIDER PROFILE: AMBER, TRO IRON ANGEL
It seems like just yesterday, and it literally was only a few months ago, that we first met Amber at a Quaker Steak & Lube Bike Night where she had just rode up on her R6. After just a few minutes of talking with her, it was clear that she’s a passionate rider that really loves the sport. Since then she’s come out to more than a few TRO Events, was selected as a winner at the Ohio Bike Week Pool Party and Calendar Contest, was featured on the cover of our June Edition of TRO – and has recently become one of our newest Iron Angels.
How did you get started riding? I started out as a backpack(riding on the back of someone else’s bike), which I loved. Any chance to get out on two wheels was great. But there is nothing like being able to hop on your own bike, whenever you want and just go. What was the first bike you rode on your own? First bike I ever rode on my own was a 1981 Honda CM400. I was working an off duty job and a co-worker brought it to work. He gave me a quick lesson on how to break and clutch and I just took off. I didn’t change gears once but man did I fall in love What’s your current bike? A 2007 Yamaha R6. I might be biased but she’s a beauty.
It’s with great pride, that we introduce you to Amber – a real rider and member of our TRO Family. How long have you been riding? I’ve been riding on my own bike for about a year and a half.

Dream bike? That’s tough. I love the new Kawasaki H2r but I also love the BMW S1000rr. Man do I have expensive taste! But really more than anything I would love a fully set up track bike. Why do you ride? That’s easy. There is nothing in the world, at least that I’ve experienced, like riding a motorcycle. Whether you’re cruising the open road or racing a track, there’s no better feeling than the freedom you feel being on a bike. Favorite places to hit? I have a really great group that I ride with and we like to ride the “twisty” routes in southern Ohio. It’s teaching me to take turns, so I enjoy that. Stops on my “ride to” bucket list: Honestly, I think some of the best rides end up being the ones that you just hop on your bike with no destination in mind. But I do want to ride Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap.

The Golden Ticket
It was suggested I re-visit a topic. It’s the time of year that some of you clubs might be getting your invitations to attend some parties at your local Dominant’s Club. You might even be invited to ride with them to other parties and events. Have you schooled your people on proper protocols when visiting another clubs house? It’s worth a conversation. First and foremost, the old saying “This ain’t the place to learn you can’t handle your liquor” is probably the most important guideline. No matter how well you are treated, this ain’t your house. Never get too comfortable. Your people should act like gracious guests. Don’t ever stay your welcome but be inclusive. So many times, I’ve seen smaller clubs come into a party, and then just huddle together at picnic tables with their own people. Really, why didn’t you just stay at your own clubhouse if you came to hang out with your own crew? I know many club members from houses from Michigan to Florida, and all points in between. It’s because when I attend a different clubs events, I go sit at the bar or at tables with clubs and/or people I’ve never met. We obviously have things in common. It’s not difficult to strike up a conversation. Get some business cards made for your club if you don’t have any. Blank backs that members can write their name on. It goes a long way toward making new friends, and potentially new faces at your own parties.
Another suggestion is to heed the signs you see hanging in their clubhouses. Many post “No Cell Phones – No Cameras – No Weapons”. Pay attention and follow their rules if you have not been given permission. If you have questions, find the person who invited you and ask for clarification. For example, I have a CCW. I won’t even go to the 7-11 to buy a pack of smokes without my weapon in this day and age. But some clubhouses that I visit for other clubs have signs up. I will speak to their leadership ahead of time. If they have a problem with me having my weapon, then we aren’t really friends, are we? And 60
I have no business in their house. If they don’t trust me, then don’t invite me. But that’s my choice. If you know the rules, and decide to go, follow their rules, or don’t go.
shouldn’t be leading any club whatsoever. Let’s steal a movie line phrase. “The first rule about MC Club, is we don’t talk about MC Club!”
Don’t post other clubs business on social media, ever! I’ve seen some citizens or other club members post “Going to the “so & so” fish fry this weekend.” I’ve even seen one total moron post “We’ve been invited for a sit down with so & so club, all club members meet at the Speedway gas station on Main St at 5pm to ride over”. This is a clear indication that this idiot doesn’t need invited to any club’s private place. He doesn’t possess the common sense to follow MC Club Protocol. In fact, he
Enjoy your summer. Count yourself fortunate to receive your “Golden Ticket” to an established clubs party or ride. In my opinion, there’s no better or more fun place to be, but mind your manners! My Road Name is Tabasco, and as always, Keep it Real!! Tabasco.TRO@gmail.com

BUCKEYE FIREARMS REPORT Beware the Straw Purchase! by John Bocker Recent highly publicized shootings have heightened concerns over firearms purchases and the background screening processes required by FFLs. Now more than ever there is a heightened level of public awareness focused on how firearm retailers include proper screening and follow guidelines. Know Your Customers A seasoned firearms salesperson working for a licensed FFL can quickly recognize a first-time gun buyer. There will be many questions about calibers, size, safety, proper use and other features. The customer’s language is basic and includes words like “shots,” “handle,” and “kick.” The sales process will tend to be slower, more of an educational process and void of the interesting stories that take place with more experienced shooters. Then there’s the experienced shooter who has purchased a few or more guns in the past. He or she may be upgrading to a higher quality firearm or stepping up to a more powerful caliber. This customer has a good idea of the type of firearm they are
THUNDER THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE
interested in, has done their research and inquires with confidence and credibility as they discuss their new purchase. These two customer types make up the vast majority of an FFL’s clientele — and then there’s the unfamiliar customer who approaches the sales counter and requests to purchase one or several specific guns, stating make and model. They may reference information from a text on their phone, a description written down or may repeat information from someone talking with them on their phone. They’ll want to make a quick purchase with few questions if any — and to the seasoned firearms salesperson, it just doesn’t feel right. Now what? Details of a Straw Sale Let’s take a minute and first review what a “straw” sale is. A straw purchase is any purchase in which a second person agrees to acquire a firearm for someone who is ineligible to purchase the firearm for himself. A straw purchaser can be identified as a person with a clean background who purchases firearms
THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM
specifically on behalf of a person prohibited from purchasing a firearm because that prohibited person is a convicted felon, domestic violence misdemeanant, juvenile, an individual who has been adjudicated mentally ill or one who is prohibited for other federally or state-defined reason from purchasing or possessing a firearm. In the U.S, a purchaser of a firearm from a FFL who lies about the identity of the ultimate possessor of the gun can be charged with making false statements on a Federal Firearms Transaction Record. (Note: A firearm purchased as a bona fide gift is different, and I’ll discuss that in a future article.) Further, it is illegal for any person not in possession of an FFL to purchase a firearm with the intention of resale. As an FFL, you should always be asking, “What can I do to detect an attempted straw purchase and what actions should I take if I encounter or suspect one?

THIS YEAR’S EVENT BENEFITS MADISON LOWERY & FAMILY:
This year’s run will benefit the Lowery Family, their daughter Madison, 12, was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called HSP and a Corpus Plexus Brain tumor by her C6-C11 nerves. On July 3, 2017 they successfully removed a majority of the tumor, which was found to be benign. However, the surgery left her with right vocal cord paralysis, which may require additional surgery, along with chronic migraines, she also still suffers from occasional HSP flair ups.
FOR MORE DETAILS: SEE SASSY’S FACEBOOK PAGE OR EMAIL bclub024@gmail.com
Madison is a fighter, while she still has some struggles, she is back doing what she loves most, playing softball and hanging out with her friends. Our goal is to help her family with their medical expenses.

RECIPES
Old School Stove Top Lasagna Serve 4 (or 2 hungry bikers)
Just a note: I made these once and half way through realized I didn’t have but a smig of breadcrumbs so I made them with parmesan cheese only lolol DONT DO IT lolol They tasted great but they were very very greasy lo
Zucchini Parmesan Chips Cooking spray 2 medium zucchini (about 1 pound total) 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan (3/4-ounce) 1/4 cup plain dry bread crumbs 1/8 teaspoon salt Freshly ground black pepper Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Slice the zucchini into 1/4-inch thick rounds. In a medium bowl, toss the zucchini with the oil. In a small bowl, combine the Parmesan, bread crumbs, salt, and a few turns of pepper. Dip each round into the Parmesan mixture, coating it evenly on both sides, pressing the coating on to stick, and place in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
1 pound ground beef 2 ¼ cups hot water ½ cup milk 1 ½ cups pasta (egg noodles, broken lasagna noodle, spiral pasta, etc) 1 cup diced tomatoes (I like the flavored ones by hunts) 1 tbsp corn starch 1 tsp oregano 1 tsp basil 1 tsp onion powder 1 tsp garlic 1 tsp salt 1 tsp sugar 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shred 1 cup cottage cheese (or ricotta) ½ cup parmesan cheese 1 tbsp fresh chopped herbs (optional) Brown hamburger and drain off grease Add hot water, milk, noodle, corn starch, tomatoes, oregano, basil, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and sugar, stir well Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 12-20 minutes until pasta is tender Turn off heat, uncover, stir in cottage cheese, ½ cup mozzarella and let stand to thicken at least 5 minutes Serve with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top (and fresh herbs-optional)
Bake the zucchini rounds until browned and crisp, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove with spatula. Serve immediately

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...
A woman is in an accident while she’s pregnant. While in a comma she has twins (a boy & a girl). When she woke up she asked the doctor where her baby was. The doctor said she had twins but her brother named them. She replied,”My brother is an idiot I wonder what names he gave them. Anyway what did he name the girl?” “Denise”, replied the doctor. That’s not so bad.”What about the boy”, she finally asked. “Denephew” An angry wife was complaining about her husband spending all his free time in a bar, so one night he took her along with him. “What’ll you have?” he asked. “Oh, I don’t know. The same as you I suppose,” she replied. So, the husband ordered a couple of Jack Daniel’s and threw his down in one shot. His wife watched him, then took a sip from her glass and immediately spat it out. “Yuck, that’s TERRIBLE!” she spluttered. “I don’t know how you can drink this stuff!” “Well, there you go,” cried the husband. “And you think I’m out enjoying myself every night!” A small boy was lost at the beach, so he went up to a lifeguard and said, “I’ve lost my dad!” The lifeguard said, “What’s he like?” The little boy replied, “Beer and women!”
A woman was shopping at her local supermarket where she selected: A halfgallon of 2% milk, A carton of eggs, A quart of orange juice, A head of romaine lettuce, A 2 lb. can of coffee, And a 1 lb. package of bacon. As she was unloading her items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk standing behind her watched as she placed the items in front of the cashier. While the cashier was ringing up her purchases, the drunk calmly stated, “You must be single.” The woman was a bit startled by this proclamation, but she was Intrigued by the derelict’s intuition, since she was indeed single. She looked at her six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about her selections that could have tipped off the drunk to her marital status. Curiosity getting the better of her, she said “Well, you know what, you’re absolutely correct, but how on earth did you know that?” The drunk replied, “Cause you’re ugly.” Mysterious Voice A man was walking in the street when he heard a voice. “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you.” The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was astonished. He went on, and after awhile he was going to cross the road. Once again the voice shouted: “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you and you will die.” The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him. “Where are you?” the man asked. “Who are you?” “I am your guardian angel,” the voice answered. “Oh yeah?” the man asked. “And where the hell were you when I got married?”
