THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE
FROM THE PUBLISHER I’d like to begin by thanking you for picking up a copy of Thunder Roads Ohio – the Nation’s Largest Regional Motorcycle Magazine – and more importantly “OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG!” That’s a title that we’re fairly proud of and that we take fairly seriously. Most of you already know our story, but it’s been a while since I’ve shared it here. So, I thought I’d revisit just who we are-- because it’s a unique story in terms of our mission and approach. Almost twenty years ago, Iron Cowboy Productions was launched as an “outside-the-box” marketing firm that specialized in country music and motorcycle promotions. That’s really where our name came from – not just my nickname. We were an aggressive street marketing company that primarily promoted bars, restaurants, local bands, and a few charity events. We even spent some time hosting golf events and marketing golf courses – believe it or not. Not that I have anything against golf – it’s just really not my thing. And someone recently told me that there weren’t enough nice days in Northeast Ohio to be both a golfer and a biker. Gradually we began focusing more and more on motorcycles and charity events – as it became clear that we had a very different approach than most. I say that in the most general of terms, as I’ve never really come across anyone that does what we do. That being said, it’s worth noting that we’ve never made a secret of our business approach – or why we believe that we are successful as we are. It’s a simple formula – we work hard to promote our partners, to support the community (in particular the riding community), to create the BEST possible product, and we take a long-term approach to developing positive relationships. More than 10 years ago, that lead us to partnering with Ohio Bike Week and making the State Rally one of our core priorities as we look to promote riding in Ohio. The lead to us helping to launch this magazine and eventually buying it – putting us in a business that we never expected to be in. Again, our basic four principles allowed us to quickly become a leader in our industry and amongst our peers – even though we were new and really had no idea what we were doing at first! Instead of learning how folks traditionally produced magazines, sold advertising, and promoted the riding community – we decided to go the other way around. We created a vision of what a successful motorcycle magazine would look like and what kind of involvement / impact it would have within the riding community. With that goal in mind, we actively sought out partners that would support our mission and we could see as part of our “end product”. So, we’ve never really focused on selling advertising, we’ve always looked for active partners that would help us on our mission – to create the BEST POSSIBLE magazine and develop long terms positive relationships. With these priorities in mind, we aggressively priced our magazine sponsorships (advertising space) – often far less than our competitors that have as little as 1/10th our readership! We’ve always believed that if we offered a good product at a reasonable rate – and actively worked to ensure that riders actually read our magazines, why would anyone stop advertising with us?! As luck would have it – this approach has worked. And along the way, we’ve built up some amazing relationships with some really great organizations and people. Certainly, we’ve stumbled at times, and not all of our partners have turned out to be as positive as we had hoped – but for more than 5 years we’ve printed a regional motorcycle magazine that’s averaged more than 100 pages, every month, year-round. And along the way, we’ve helped a lot of charities and helped promote a lot of really great businesses and events. And we have YOU – our readers – to thank for all of this. You’ve been an active partner in our journey and we greatly appreciate your support. Over the years, many of you have become family – and if you’re just picking up this magazine for the first time – you’ll discover that it’s far more than just another print publication. It’s the voice of our riding community – as told by riders, events, and local businesses. In essence, it’s your voice as well. So please don’t ever hesitate to let us know what you think. You can share your feelings on our website through our Blogs, in the Forums, on our Facebook page, or just by talking to us at events. Looking forward to seeing you out on the road! Ride Strong – and Live Well! Derek Armstrong

2018 TRO Championship Bike Show Series Underway Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop local and regional Bike Shows as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out, though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues that have often showcased bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields (The Devil’s Staircase, Oregonia). Throughout we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates.
Upcoming Bike Shows – Here are just a few, you can go online for a complete listing and updates. 5/27/2018 Ohio Bike Week Championship Bike Show, Sandusky OH 6/2/2018 Thiel’s Wheels Car & Motorcycle Show, Upper Sandusky OH 6/9/2018 Biketown Harley-Davidson Bike Show, Austintown OH 6/16/2018 Jack Racino Bike Show, Randall Park OH 6/27/2018 Quaker Steak & Lube Warren, Valleyview OH NEW SHOW ADDED! 6/29/2018 Quaker Steak & Lube Warren, Warren OH NEW SHOW ADDED! 6/30/2018 Brunswick Classic Car & Bike Show, Brunswick OH NEW SHOW ADDED! 7/18/2018 Zeppes Bike Show, Newbury OH 7/21/2018 Iron Pony Bike Show, Columbus OH 7/23/2018 Quaker Steak & Lube Medina, Medina OH 7/26/2018 Quaker Steak & Lube Sheffield, Sheffield OH 8/11/2018 Harley’s Against Heroin Ride & Bike Show, Amelia (Cincinnati) OH 8/16/2018 Quaker Steak & Lube Austintown, Austintown OH NEW SHOW ADDED! 8/18/2018 Rally on the River, Ironton OH 8/25/2018 Stinger Harley-Davidson Bike Show, Medina OH All dates are subject to change. Pre-Registration Bonuses! In order to help plan and encourage participation amongst builders and bike owners, we are offering a number of incentives for those pre-registering for TRO Bike Shows this year. In addition to a slight discount on registration fees – which will vary, depending on the specific shows, we will also now be offering FREE Championship Bike Show Series T-Shirts to those registering in advance. For the larger shows, these shirts will be customized for the specific show. For those registering for 5 or more shows in advance – bike owners will receive a FREE Championship Bike Show Series Dickie® Eisenhower Shop Jacket!
For 2018, Thunder Roads Ohio will host our most extensive schedule ever of Bike Shows – ranging from local community shows and Bike Night Shows, to festivals and rallies, and culminating in our Championship Shows. Throughout all of them, our goal is to showcase the bikes and the passion their owners have for them. We encourage everyone to participate in the Bike Shows and have fun with them.
Pre-Registration will be done through the Thunder Roads Ohio website or by contacting the TRO Office directly at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com or calling (440) 273-9000. * Each Bike Owner will receive one complimentary
Show Shirt and then begin building credits towards the Shop Jacket. Program specifics are being finalized and not all Bike Shows featured in the magazine, website, or even in the Series will be eligible. Event organizers reserve the right to make changes that they deem necessary due to the constraints of operating within the real world. 8

THE IRON COWBOY
Support your local rides and motorcycle events – by sharing them with Thunder Roads! Throughout the year, there are hundreds of great motorcycle events being held all across Ohio. Some number hundreds and even thousands of bikes, while others might only have 30-50 bikes – yet still be really cool events with a story to share. The challenge, though, is that there are only a few of us – and we can only cover so many rides, rallies, and other events. Unfortunately, we are often left hearing about great events in the far corners of the state or even in our own backyard that we’ve been unable to attend. Many of these are great events, worth sharing with our readers. To that end, we’d like to encourage riders to share some of their experiences with the magazine and become Thunder Roads Contributors! As a Thunder Roads Ohio Contributor you can help cover local events of interest to you and provide them invaluable exposure to the more than 200,000 riders we reach each and every month. For a new event or one attempting to attract more riders for next year’s event – an article in Thunder Roads can make all the difference. You don’t have to be a professional writer or photographer to cover an event. Most modern cell phones have cameras that can take great pictures and a short write-up including your thoughts on the ride and recognizing the organization doesn’t have to be perfect. We have proof readers and photo editors that can help polish up your submission, but we really appreciate a candid approach to event coverage. The best way to start is to email us and let us know your ideas. You can reach us at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com. “Thunder Roads welcomes “Ride Reviews” (profiling events, rides, and rallies) and stories regarding suggested riding destinations in particular. Many of our feature articles are written by freelance writers, and we’re always looking for solid writers. In most cases, we do not assign articles and contributors must be self-starters. If you have an idea for an article or feature for Thunder Roads Ohio, send us a summary of your story along with several photos. Succinctly outline your subject and proposed article - and explain why our readers would be interested.” 10

TRO SCAVENGER HUNT The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! COB REPORT To My ABATE Friends, What great weather we had for the 2018 Motorcycle Awareness Rally. I want to thank everyone who promoted and worked the event. AD Farrow’s came through as always; a great parking lot, donuts and coffee, and to top it off - music. Thank you Doug-- great job. The Columbus Police did their usual great job getting us safely to the Ohio State House which, as normal, was ready for us. Thank you all. I really enjoyed the After-Rally Party; Region 9 and Roger did a great job hosting. It always looks so easy to get it all done but many people have to work together to make it so nice. Thanks to Victory’s for letting us be there and to have the curtains up making our day even that much better. This whole event is just what it takes to get our year off to a great start. Sorry some of you had to miss it, but maybe next year.

Tim and the crew at Region 8 get the at-a-boy award by gathering 24 Proclamations. The total Proclamations for 2018 were 197. That represents a lot of cities, towns and villages that we visited and asked them to recognize Motorcycle Awareness Month. Thank you all. Special thanks go out to West Carrollton Mayor, and Jeffery Sanner, for putting their proclamation on a beautiful wooden plaque. That proclamation will be on the wall at the ABATE office. This is the time to get out and sign up new members, while the cost is still $10.00. Our membership numbers are coming up, so keep up the good work. Better yet, take someone’s $20 bill and also sell them a bike raffle ticket. Your region will make $1 for every bike raffle ticket you sell to benefit the region in whatever way the membership wants. SAFETY Hi Friends, When you read this May will be history. It was a busy month starting with the Awareness Rally, ending with Ohio Bike Week, and several events in between. It’s a great way to get the summer started and it looks like we are riding safer. In 2017 by this time we had 651 crashes with 18 fatalities and this year to date we have had 288 crashes with 4 fatalities. Tell your friends to help others to ride safe and you may just save a life. Many will remember “Ride SMART” so let’s review the meaning;
tire air pressure, check that all the controls are adjusted and working smoothly, check all fluid levels and get down and look around for lost or worn parts. Trip time (not that kind of trip but a bike trip) for me is a two or three-day weekend trip. You can have a great time riding along the shores of Lake Erie. Stop and pick up a brochure that shows where to get great food, taste some Great Lakes wine and just stop along the way to take in the sites. If time allows go to Cedar
S – Ride “SOBER” Please don’t drink and ride as it never ends well.
Point, Put n Bay and Geneva on the Lake. Ohio is a great place to ride and you don’t have to be gone for weeks. If you don’t have your Look Twice Save a Life sign in your yard, get it out of the garage now. If you don’t have one, get one. They are only $10.00. Call the state office, go online or contact your Region Director. It does help!! Ride With In Your Limits Mike Stock Mikestock419@gmail.com 419-654-5446
M – Ride “MOTORCYCLE ENDORSED” If you have been riding on a temporary and just get a new one every year please contact Motorcycle Ohio it only costs $50.00 to get endorsed. www.motorcycle.ohio.gov A – Ride “ALERT” Don’t ride tired and always scan ahead at least 10 and 15 seconds. R – Ride with the “RIGHT GEAR” Always take rain gear, proper eye protection, gloves and boots that cover your ankles. Know the laws of the states you are riding in. T – Ride “TRAINED” If you have never taken a rider’s course you will learn something and if you have taken one in the past, go back and take a refresher course. If we all pass this message “Ride Smart” around it will be safer. Talk to your riding friends and know who you are riding with. The ride is only as safe as the least experienced rider. I have been asked to participate in a training program for driver’s education instructors. The driver’s education program is coming back, so maybe the internet was not the answer. They do feel that a motorcyclist can make an impression on a new driver to be aware of motorcycles. In the near future we may need some help by spending an hour to talk to new drivers about Motorcycle Awareness. Now for taking care of your motorcycle. Service should be done as per your owner manual. Everyone should do a pre-ride inspection by looking for fluid under or on your bike, checking for low tires, see if all the lights are working and check how much gas you have. CMA What’s In Your Bucket A few weeks back we had a musical group at our church. I’m sorry I do not remember their name, but they did an excellent job of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ the song. One thing they had was tee shirts for sale with 2 statements on the front of them. The first statement was, “There’s a time to stand!” and beside it was an image of the American Flag. Any Veteran or any patriotic American would understand what that statement “There’s a time to stand!” would mean. I was reminded as we go through life we each seem to carry a bucket with us. Some are shiny and probably made of stainless steel, some are probably just plastic 5-gallon buckets, but mine, unlike yours, is probably just a rusty old steel bucket. As we go through life we tend to put things in our buckets. Things like our ideas, intentions, desires, things we want to accomplish or do, our family, and so on. Often times we will pick up that bucket and pull out one of those things we have stuffed into our bucket. Then we will try our best to accomplish whatever it is and many times we fail miserably. I have also noticed that once we get married, we now have 3 buckets. In my case there’s Becky’s bucket, my bucket and our bucket. There are some things I want to do that Becky really isn’t all that interested in, like riding my bike to Alaska and even on up to the Artic Circle. Becky on the other hand has things in her bucket that I’m really not interested in doing. However, in our bucket there are things we both want to do. Point in case, 2 years ago we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and we have talked many times about riding Route 66 from one end to the other. Well, we would reach into our bucket and pull that ride out and discuss it but then put it back into our bucket for one reason or another. Finally, one day when we had that trip out of our bucket I called and booked her a flight from Columbus to LA X Airport, one way. That started the ball rolling. In the end I rode my bike to LA in 3 days. She flew out and I picked her up on the bike at LA X Airport. We drove over to the Santa Monica Pier and started our ride of Route 66 back to Chicago. A trip neither of us will forget nor the sights we saw. There is one thing we all put into our bucket during our lives. That is this question, what will you do about Jesus in your life? Some will pull that question out often and look it over, others will seldom pull it out and look it over, but both will respond in the same way. They just dropping it back into their bucket. Others will pull that question out and respond, then and there, asking Jesus to come into their lives, knowing they do not deserve such a friend as Jesus but recognize their need for Him right now. These people do not put that question back into their bucket because they have recognized what needed to be done. So, let me ask, what’s in your bucket? If the question, “What will you do about Jesus in your life?” is still inside that bucket I challenge you to pull it out right now and ask Jesus into your life. 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” NASB Won’t you trust Him today? A New and Improved Nelsons Ledges Road Course Although the weather has not fully cooperated, Track Days have begun at various tracks. Time to get out the leathers, boots, tire warmers and all the gear to get some all important seat time. Which brings us to Nelsons Ledges Road Course. What was once a potato farm is now the site that grew into this famed road course in 1958. With new ownership has come new life. The track is newly paved with improved curbing and many other enhancements done almost daily. Plans are in the works to again hold a 24hour endurance motorcycle race. The first was held in 1968. To date, no motorcycle racing events have been scheduled. But several organizations are holding track days at this famed track to hone existing skills or to teach an aspiring racer the ins and outs of road course racing. LEAN TRACK DAYS, ROGER LYLE’S MOTORCYCLE EXCITEMENT AND EVOLVE GT are all holding various track days. All offer the opportunity to learn to ride safely. Novice, intermediate and expert sessions are run throughout the course of the weekend. They also offer a chance to share a love of motorcycles with guys and girls like you and build friendships that can last a lifetime. For your information The Champcar Endurance Series (24-hour race) returns to Nelsons the last weekend in June. Although not motorcycles this go-around it might be worth a ride out to one of what will again be one of the best road course tracks in the country right in your own backyard.

Destination Geauga County...A Trail to Throttle Thru Greetings from California’s scenic Highway 1. As I turn my throttle across the plains of Route 66, to the West coast, I’m amazed at the beautiful ride destinations we have in the U.S. Although it’s a long way from home, where lush green lawns and rolling hills blanket Northeast Ohio, rubber has been hitting the road from coast to coast. This month we feature beautiful Geauga County. It is home to the second largest Amish community in Ohio, where 4 “wheels” may outnumber 2 or 3 wheels, yet for every type of ride, there’s a road to get us there. My recent visit to Geauga County reminded me that the best destinations are often on our own back roads. Here are some suggestions to enhance your riding season.
“A Throttle for Taste”...
Can’t decide on a ride stop? Destination Geauga, located at 14807 N. State Ave in Middlefield, is a great resource to enhance your riding plans. There you can gather maps and information on local festival dates, attractions, wineries and guides to local state parks. Red Maple Inn, located at 14707 South Cheshire in Burton, designed a scenic 30-mile ride route. Stop in at their location to pick up a route map or use the following route description.
Fill your hunger tank at End of the Commons General Store 4366 Kinsman Road Mesopotamia, Ohio Put your kickstand down and your feet up while relaxing on the front porch with a fry pie in one hand and a glass soda pop in the other. You’ll appreciate your need for speed as you watch the local horse and buggy traffic trot by. www.endofthecommons.com
Depart from the Red Maple Inn and turn left. Proceed to Georgia Road. Turn left on Georgia Road to Route 608. Turn left on Route 608 and proceed to Route 87. Turn right on Route 87. Follow Route 87 to Route 534 and turn left on Route 534. At the intersection of Windsor Road, turn left (Windsor Road becomes Burton-Windsor), then follow to Burton. Turn left on N. Cheshire and follow to Burton Square. www.redmapleinn.com Geauga County has a plethora of options for ride stops. Consider the following attractions as you Throttle Thru the Trail.

2018 BUCKEYE THUNDER RUN
Places to Go: Indian Lake
One of Ohio’s most popular summer destinations – and it’s Biker Friendly! With easily hundreds of thousands of miles logged crisscrossing Ohio, I often feel as though I pretty much know the state. Then you come across a place that knocks you back and leaves you awestruck, wondering what else you’re missing out on! I had one of those moments recently when I came across Indian Lake in Northwestern Ohio. Indian Lake is a 5,800 acre lake just east of 75 and south of 33. The towns of Lakeview, Russells Point, Huntsville, and Roundhead all encompass it – offering a wealth of really cool options for those looking for a great ride destination. Many of you are scoffing and saying – “How could you have not known about Indian Lake?!?” Well, I’ve heard of it – but have just never been through. I finally actually had a chance to ride into Lakeside, Huntsville, and that general area – and ya know what? It’s a pretty cool spot, and we are planning on spending A LOT of time in the Indian Lake Region this summer! I’ve spent a lot of time riding through “scenic, destination” lake towns and most are either over-developed, over-priced hipster resort towns or they are hole in the wall spots that are relaxing but, offer little to do. Both are appealing in their own fashion for those craving such particular destinations – but a few seem to maintain a magical blend of “vacation destination” without going over-board with the over-priced, resort aspects. Geneva-on-the-Lake is one such place that we love going to, as most of our readers know (Thunder on the Strip!). Indian Lake has this same feel. Plenty of great restaurants and bars, scenic roads to ride, and plenty of reasonable places to stay– what more could you ask for in terms of a great weekend getaway!?! In terms of camping – the area offers

over 4,000 campsites. The Indian Lake State Park has over 450 campsites alone – suitable for tents or trailers. Many have electrical and full-service hookups as well for those looking for more modern conveniences. Well over a dozen other campgrounds surround the lake additionallyl, and we will be checking them out over the months to come. You’ll see reviews and recommendations in Thunder Roads as we work our way through the area. For those of you that enjoy fishing, Indian Lake might just be the best Ride Destination in Ohio. With plentiful largemouth bass, saugeye, white bass, walleye, yellow perch, and catfish – it’s considered the 10th BEST LAKE in the NATION for fishing and arguably one of the BEST in the state of Ohio. For 2018, we’ve added a number of

And remember – this year we are doing DIGITAL check-ins. So, ride in, take a picture with your phone of you (and your card, if you have it with you), post it to your Facebook with a comment such as “Riding with Thunder Roads – stopped by LUG NUTS! #TRO” Notice the “#TRO” – that’s the hashtag. It allows us to track your check-ins. It’s really that simple. (Be sure that you LIKE our facebook page as well, to ensure that your check-ins come through.) Continued p.44

Sport Touring Corner By Norm Kern, TRO Contributor
Iron Butt Association and the Long Distance Riding Now that riding season is in full swing and we don’t have to limit ourselves to short rides to keep from freezing, it’s a good time to talk about Long Distance (LD) riding. Some will question the topic appearing in this column, so first a little background. Sport Touring Corner is for riders who view motorcycling as a sport, and that includes developing skills and discipline, exploring and stretching limits. Long distance riding, both competitively and as a pastime, is a way to explore one’s endurance, requiring discipline and many other skills as well. The Iron Butt Association Riders who share the passion for long distance riding feel a kinship and special brotherhood for each other. That strong bond is one of the primary attractions of the Iron Butt Association (IBA), which has over sixty thousand members worldwide. The IBA, which bills itself as the “World’s Toughest Riders,” is a membership based sanctioning organization that puts on several rally events each year and certifies a variety of distance and endurance rides. The only way you can join the IBA is to complete the entry level ride, called the Saddlesore 1000. The ride itself is of your choice of time, location and route, but must be at least 1000 miles in length and be completed in less than twenty-four hours. You must document it with another person not on the ride signing a witness form at the start and finish. You must also document your ride, logging mileage and keeping fuel and food receipts for the start, finish, and all stops in between. When the ride is complete, submit your paperwork, along with the application form and a $40 fee. If you have followed all the rules and properly documented your ride, you will receive a certificate and membership. The membership is for life, but if you wish to pay an annual fee to become a premiere member, you will get a newsletter, discounts and other special privileges. How to do your first Saddlesore 1000 How hard is it to ride 1000 miles in a day? Not difficult at all if you do it the easy way. First, pick the right time of year. I like early-mid May when it’s not too cold or hot. 46 46

Use interstate highways and stay away from big cities and dense traffic.
In addition to your own sense of accomplishment, you’ll have lots of friends who just can’t believe you could ride a THOUSAND MILES in a day!
Take a CamelBak for hydration and snacks you can eat while going down the road. Stop for gas every 150-200 miles and take a 15-minute break. Don’t stop for a meal until you’ve gone at least 700 miles and make it a light one.
Other IBA Certified Rides
Start your ride about 3-4AM. If you average 60 MPH including regular gas stops, you’ll be done in less than seventeen hours, plus however long you spend dining, so total time is about 18 hours. You’ll be done at 9-10PM. If you are smart, your route goes West for the first part, North or South for a while then East back home. That way you are never riding into the sun. Do the route in a loop rather than an “out and back,” which is a bit harder to get certified. I’ve done four of these with friends over the years. It’s a lot of fun; there are always stories to tell, like the friend who was late to the start, and rushed out the door to get going. His feet were killing him all day until one of us noticed at a gas stop that he had gone over 700 miles with his boots on the wrong feet!

The Saddlesore 1000 remains the entry level ride, but there are lots of longer and more difficult ones. The Bun Burner Gold is 1500 miles in less than 24 hours--a very challenging ride! There are multi-day rides as well. The 50 CC Quest is coast to coast (2345 mi from Jacksonville, Florida to San Diego, California) in less than 50 hours. The 100CCC is two 50 CC Quests back to back! The Iron Butt Rally The Iron Butt Rally is a competitive event put on by the IBA in odd numbered years usually in August. Riders apply to enter and only about 100 are accepted for each event. This is a grueling event that lasts 11 days, with riders often traveling over 11,000 miles. They earn points by riding their motorcycles to various “bonus” locations, which are tasks or destinations with point values. Riders must provide evidence by taking a photograph of an object or scene or perform some other required action. Continued on p.48 OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE MAGAZINE OHIO’S

ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE DONATED TO THE RIDE FOR KIDS
Here are some of the things you can look forward to: Routes- The centerpiece of any sporttouring rally is the suggested routes. Attendees come to ride great roads all day and socialize in the evening. Southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia are filled with great roads and this year there will be more than fifteen routes available in GPS and paper map formats. In addition to our collection of the best routes from the past twenty years, we have an all-new adventure route with dirt and gravel roads suitable for large adventure bikes such as the Yamaha Super Tenere and BMW GS1200. Food- Since many attendees arrive on Friday, there will be a Friday evening cookout, featuring brats and other casual food. For Saturday, dinner is on your own so those who want to ride a long route don’t have to hurry to get back to the hotel, which has complete dining and a well-stocked bar on the premises. There is also an excellent Mexican restaurant that’s an easy five-minute walk with no street crossings. THUNDER THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE

The rally has usually run in three segments, with checkpoints at multiple points in the U.S. Riders are given a list of bonuses with locations, times of availability, and varying point values. There are far more bonuses than can be earned in the time allotted during a leg, so each rider must figure out their own route and which bonuses to attempt while still having enough time to reach the next checkpoint before it closes. Finishing positions are awarded based on the number of bonus points, provided the rider makes all the required checkpoints within the prescribed time window. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to finishers based on their bonus points as percentage of the winning bonus score. Themes are often employed, such as visiting U.S. states and their capitals, gateways and arches, etc. If you are interested in the Iron Butt Association and its rides and rallies here’s a double opportunity for a first-hand experience:

It includes a one-day LD type event with bonuses and points that you can try for yourself. Second, on Sunday morning July 8, the seven-day TeamStrange Butt Lite IX Rally official start is at a nearby hotel. Most of the riders are the same veterans who ride the eleven-day Iron Butt Rally. Many of us will be going there from Pat’s Rally of Historical Proportions to see the riders and their bikes take off. Should be exciting! 48 48

Adventure Motorcycle Riding Techniques Riding Techniques | 10 Big-Bike ADV Tips By Ron Lieback
Rawhyde video material, and then completed some schooling at the debut Touratech Rally. There, I met some of the coolest people, and they quickly became lifelong friends. Plus, I got to ride with serious talent out there, which helped me scale my riding ability. All this led to me leading the advanced ADV groups at rallies, and helping train others ride an ADV bike so they can get the most of it. More control, more fun—that’s my ADV motto. I practice as much as possible. Sometimes, I just ride around in a wooded area and stand on one peg, kicking trees with my free leg. Or, I’ll try to maneuver through the tightest section possible off-path while riding as slow as possible, relying on the clutch’s “friction zone” to get me through. My V-Strom eats clutches, and the bike spends much time stuck in trees or on the ground, but it can’t stop the fun.
Modern ADV bikes are unbelievable off-road, especially the KTM 1190 Adventure R and BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. As for my Author on El Mule V-Strom, well it’s nicknamed El Mule for obvious reasons. But, I love the challenge, and I haven’t been stranded yet. The adventure motorcycling bug deeply infected me in the summer of 2011. Before then, my life consisted of spirited sport bike riding, There are a few basic principles that every big-bike ADV rider long-distance sport touring, and as many track days as possible. should learn before going off-road and pushing the bike to its One day I wanted to go for a hike, which required some riding along fire roads. I was on my 1998 Honda VFR800F—which will always be with me—and I encountered a new sense of freedom. Soon I was riding more fire roads than roads. Time for an ADV bike.
true limits. Following are 10 techniques that will not only help you ride with more authority off-road, but also help you ride safer, smoother, and, what I love most, faster.
Budgets were tight, so I had to go the cheapest route. I found a 2002 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 that had been babied. It was big and bulky and, though a great street bike, it was tough as hell to ride on the technical off-road stuff.
Proper gear is essential for any type of ride. If you’re not 100 percent comfortable, you will lose focus. That’s when the stupid things happen. While testing a pair of riding pants a few years back, the knee protection caused serious discomfort while standing. It annoyed me so much that I lost focus at nearly 90 mph, and washed out the front in a loose dirt section.
I later discovered that the Strom is the perfect training platform. I also still own that bike, which has something like 80k miles on it. Of course, now it’s loaded with Touratech suspension/ protection, and always shod with Continental TKC 80 tires.
Adjust controls for pure comfort while standing and sitting 54 54
As I did with road bikes, I became obsessed with learning techniques for off-road riding on these huge beasts. I picked up some
THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE THUNDER
1. Proper Gear…Especially Grippy Boots
Make sure the gear is comfortable both standing and sitting. The rest is up to your taste, and the seasons, in regards to ventilation and waterproofness, Make sure you have all the protective elements intact; trees don’t get out of the way. A note on boots; the grippier the better, especially if conditions are wet from either rain or morning/evening fog. I still have a few bumps on my shins from slipping off pegs due to wearing roadstyle boots that don’t provide grip. Don’t make the same mistake. Alpinestars new Tech T boots are extremely comfortable and excellent for light-duty off-road, while Sidi Adventure Rain boots are for serious off-roading. 2. Learn to Stand Truly tackling the dirt—especially on the bigger ADV machines— requires standing on the footpegs. The major benefit is it transfers your weight from being attached to the motorcycle at the set, to the feet. This allows for easier movement of the bike when cornering, or shifting weight frontwards or backwards to attack the specific terrain—sand, uphill, downhill, etc.

Standing is everything for true off-road riding on big ADV bikes
Jimmy Lewis shows proper body position
The other major benefit is field of vision; standing gives you a much better perspective of what’s ahead. This allows you to plan sooner, which equates to not only enhanced safety, but also increased speeds.
as possible; if standing, lean a bit forward. This weights the front and keep the back loose for sliding out of a corner under throttle.
When standing, keep your legs slightly bent so they act as an extension of your suspension. Place the balls of your feet on the pegs; that’s where your balance is. Keep your legs and arms loose, so they can assist the suspension. When I feel my grip tightening on the bars, I yell to myself “Let the suspension work, dummy.” Those words haunted me when I first began ADV riding.
At speed, don’t twist your body in anyway; this changes for lowspeed turns discussed below. 6. Turning Tech
When you need to give your upper body a break during intense offroad sections, squeeze the gas tank with your knees. This is also a great time to complete some controlled breathing exercises for increased energy. My strategy is breathe in two seconds, hold in six, let out four. Do this a few times and your energy levels restore themselves extremely quick. Standing may feel awkward at first. However, like anything, a bit of practice will have it feeling as normal as sitting in a short amount of time. 3. Adjust Controls Accordingly For comfort, proper bike setup is everything. The key is to properly optimize controls for comfort while sitting or standing. I cater to comfort while standing since that’s when I’m doing my most challenging riding. I position the clutch and brake levers slightly downward for optimized feel at the controls when standing. 4. Two Fingers On Clutch Leaving just two fingers to operate the clutch gives you more control on steering inputs, and allows you to use the “friction zone” of the clutch more—something I’ve learned from my street/race track riding, but is even more important off-road–especially while standing. This means slipping the clutch to either garner or rob power. Utilizing the friction zone is a great tactic for things like riding over logs or rocks. 5. Body Position Body position is something every rider should practice for any type of motorcycle, whether piloting a cruiser, sportbike or dual sport. When standing, leaning your weight forward when ascending steep inclines will allow the bike to remain planted, and help with traction. When going downhill, leaning rearward helps keep the weight on the bike balanced.
Jimmy Lewis understands proper turning techniques Turning off-road is something that should be learned at the slowest pace possible. Only then can you understand how tight you can turn your bike when using the right technique. The hardest thing for me to learn was not leaning into the corner, when either standing or sitting. As road riders, we want to lean our bodies into the corner to keep the bike more upright, which increases tire contact/traction. In the dirt, the tire design works better by leaning the bike into corners, while you remain standing or sitting upright. This allows the knobby or big tread tires to dig into the dirt and provide more traction. Start learning with slow turns. Remember to always weight the outside peg, and keep your shoulders square to the bars. Began left-hand circles at a slow pace. While standing, keep your body upright, and shoulders square to the bars. Keep your shoulders square, even if you have your bars locked in the tightest turning position. Do this by turning your upper
For turns, you always want more weight up front to keep the front tire planted. If you’re sitting down, get as close forward THUNDER THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE

body in the direction you are going. Some people only twist their upper bodies. Others, including me, like to move the entire body, including the feet slightly, or whatever is allowed due to space constraints, in that direction.
I am a huge fan of “picking through rocks” during technical rocky downhill sections–the sharper the stones, the more fun. This standup technique allows your rear tire to follow the front. While having your weight far back, you find your correct path with the front tire. When on top of rocks, “pick” through them by locking or almost locking the rear tire. This allows it to slide off rocks and get in line with the front. Try this—it changed my comfort levels tremendously.
Continuing with this left turn, keep all your weight on your right leg. While practicing, I’ll also take my left foot completely off the peg, making sure all the weight is on the outside. Keep practicing and eventually you’ll be able to lock the bars and complete the tightest turns your bike possibly allows. Oh, and when learning, plan on dropping your bike a few times; don’t worry, this is normal.
8. Look Where You Want to Go Look where you want to go. Always try to look as far ahead as possible on tighter trails, allowing your peripheral vision to take care of the obstacles. The faster you go, the further you look. Of course, in extremely slow and technical sections, your focus will be pretty close.
Practice slow turning in both directions for the rest of your riding career—especially at the beginning of a season. The slower the better; you’ll improve your balance over time. As for fast corners, get all braking completed before turning the bike; trail braking (keeping pressure on at start of turn) is great on the street, but will wipe you out in the dirt. Keep the weight a bit forward for added front-tire traction, and initiate turn-in with the bike, not the body (stay upright!).
Just as on the street, target fixation causes many accidents
Based on speed, this is where things can get fun. Initiate turn, point, and get on the throttle to slide the rear tire and finish the turn.
off-road. It’s even tougher off-road because there are so many distractions saturated in such small areas. Hundreds of trees, rocks, bushes, and animals can easily grab your attention, causing you to head right into them. Another advanced technique is locking the rear tire to help the bike initiate the turn with a slide—extreme fun.
I spent quite a bit of time training myself to not target fixate while off-road. The scenery is sometimes so beautiful it becomes an internal duel—do I ride fast, or slow to enjoy the scenery?
7. Stop with Front; Steer with Rear Brake (Pick Rocks)
Serious water crossing; feels better than it looks
There’s still much confusion out there concerning braking off-road. I discussed this with Baja 1000 winner and Dakar podium finisher Jimmy Lewis at the Touratech Rally East this past August. You still need the front brake to stop.
9. Keep Front Light for Sand, Mud and Waterways When riding in sand or heavy mud, place your weight towards the back (with knees bent) and keep the throttle on aggressively. This provides a lighter front end, and creates an almost snowmobile effect of riding.
Look where you want to go According to Jimmy, the front brake is for stopping, and the rear is for steering. Rely on the front brakes for slowing/stopping, and use the rear to steer the bike, such as skidding the rear to point the bike into whatever direction is needed. Even in the dirt, think of the braking bias as 80 percent front/20 percent rear. Learn the threshold of locking up the front tire, and you’ll be able to brake harder than you’ve ever imagined. 56 56
THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE THUNDER
When crossing waterways such as tiny streams or deep creeks, keep the front as light as possible; dangerous rocks and tree limbs can be under the surface. The lighter the front, the easier chance you’ll have to make it to the other side. Follow the tracks of other riders who have made it through a waterway already.

10. Learn to Wheelie at Various Speeds Jimmy Lewis shows how it’s done Wheelies don’t only look super cool—they also come in handy when off-road, especially when piloting a larger ADV bike. Learn how to power wheelie, and also wheelie by slipping the clutch. The latter is needed for stumps, logs, rocks, or whatever else is in your way. Learning how to bring the front up even a few inches will have a tremendous impact on smooth riding and less crashing. You don’t want a 12 o’clock wheelstand, unless you’re doing it for fun. Concluding Thoughts New to the world of big Adv, but maybe a bit apprehensive of the off road? If so, you’re missing out on another outlet of Moto freedom. But don’t worry; conquering the dirt just takes some time, and begins with learning the above 10 techniques. This should be followed by practice, practice, practice. The more competent you are, the more fun you’ll have. Remember, more control, more fun. Get out there and enjoy the true ability of these bigger ADV bikes.

Reflection
Why is it such a difficult mindset to understand that what you do reflects on the body of your entire club? Anyone who is in a multi-chapter Motorcycle Club needs to understand this. It simply amazes me that Clubs who hold national meetings to discuss protocols and rules at length still have members who completely and totally disregard their own protocols. I fully understand that MCs are made up of a multitude of personalities. Some are Egotistical, some are compliant, some even affable, and some are just down right A-holes. But even having said that, one would think that being a part of a large organization, one might heed the advice of their peers. Like employment. Everyone seems to understand that you can’t just do whatever you want at work and still be a part of that organization. Yet I see so many factions of the same large MCs who row their own boat when it comes to rules and protocols. No matter how many times it’s discussed in the MC culture, some people just never learn. Does that make them a true “Something Percenter”? I mean we didn’t join a volunteer organization to abide by more rules than exists in society. Or does it just make them conceded when they don’t consider the good for all mind set? I’ve counseled with multiple MC members over the years regarding how their actions affect their own brothers, yet I still see some who completely disregard it. I know some members of original and large MCs who are no longer in their club because they were “too much” to deal with. It’s a catch 22 isn’t it?! How can you be the scourge of society yet be considered too much to handle in a notorious MC? Well, common sense plays a big part. Too bad it’s not very prevalent in the culture these days. If you do stupid stuff, it will reflect on every single member of your club. If you’re a jerk to guests at your clubhouse, they will stop coming. If you start $h!t with the local gang down in town over some dumb BS, one of your brothers might catch a pipe upside the head when he stops in town to get fuel wearing your same rags, totally unaware of the issue. If you go off on some old man or chick 60
who cut you off when riding in traffic, you might get your brother riding beside you a couple of felonies if he’s riding dirty. Think about more than yourself before you act. If your nation has set some guidelines, I assure you they exist for the preservation of your entire group, if not you specifically. Don’t put yourself before them. Your nation may like you, they may even love you, but they sure as hell don’t need you. You know those old brothers that have been paving the way for the likes of you
and me? The ones that have been in your nation for decades? If you are fortunate to get to spend some time with them, bend their ear, and learn from their mistakes as well as their triumphs, it will make you a better club brother. If you look in to their faces and don’t see your reflection in their actions, you are the problem. Keep it REAL! My Road Name is Tabasco, and I approve this message. Tabasco.tro@gmail.com

BUCKEYE FIREARMS REPORT A tale of two Waffle Houses by Chad D. Baus On April 22, the nation watched as yet another mass shooting unfolded.
of defensive gun use and note the fact that lives were saved.
At 3:25 a.m., a man, naked from the waist down, fatally shot two people outside an Antioch, TN Waffle House, then walked inside and continued to fire, killing a third person and fatally injuring a fourth person. Four others were also treated for injuries. The national media rightfully praised the actions of an unarmed man in the restaurant, who rushed and disarmed the killer, who was apprehended after a 34-hour manhunt.
If the news media really wanted to help bring about positive, productive changes to the problem of violent crime in our society, they would also report each and every time a violent crime happened in a so-called ‘gun free’ zone.
Like many before, it was soon discovered that the act was committed by a mentallyderanged person who was prohibited by various gun control laws from owning or possessing a firearm. Like many before, it was also revealed that our law-enforcement and justice system, which had previous dealings with the killer, had failed in its duty to protect our society from such a person. What has received far less attention was another crime committed with a firearm in another Waffle House in another southern city just two days before the Tennessee killing. From the New Orleans Times-Picayune: Around 10:19 p.m. Thursday, Thomas and another man with semiautomatic handguns entered the Waffle House in the 2900 block of Elysian Fields Avenue, police said. The other man jumped the counter and demanded money from the cashier, while also taking $8 from a costumer, according to an NOPD release Friday afternoon. Thomas stood on the side by the counter and served as lookout for the other man. A customer armed with his personal firearm drew his weapon as the other robber approached him, causing the robber to flee. Thomas then pointed his own weapon at the armed customer, the police release said. The customer fired several shots at Thomas, who then ran out of the Waffle House and fled in a white Chrysler with the other robber. The 62 62
customer later told police that he believed he had struck Thomas. Later in the night, a white Chrysler pulled up at a local emergency room and dropped off a man with several gunshot wounds to the back, hip and arm. The man matched witness descriptions of the injured robber, according to the release. The reason this crime did not receive national attention was of course, that there was no body count. Having no victims is exactly the outcome everyone desires, of course, and when measures taken to prevent crime actually work, this should be newsworthy. But the old adage “if it bleeds, it leads” is true, and the resulting lack of coverage on incidents like these by the national media allow for some to believe that these types of defensive encounters never happen. Indeed, on June 7, 2014, Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, went on CNN’s “New Day Saturday” to discuss persons exercising their right to open carry in Texas. Show host Victor Blackwell asked “Where [has] a bad guy with a gun ... been stopped in any other way or by a person other than a law enforcement officer with a gun or by killing himself?” “This has never happened,” replied Watts. The fact is, this does happen. It happens quite frequently. In fact, as was recently discovered, in the 1990’s the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had evidence that 2.46 million U.S. adults per year used a gun for self-defense but never reported it. If the news media really wanted to help bring about positive, productive changes to the problem of violent crime in our society, they would report each and every instance

But the truth is, what many in the news media actually want to bring about is the abolition of the Second Amendment, and violent crime is a tool they use to further their agenda. As such, don’t expect to be hearing about stories like these in the national media any time soon. Chad D. Baus is the Buckeye Firearms Association Secretary and an NRAcertified firearms instructor. He is cofounder of BFA-PAC, and served as its Vice Chairman for 15 years. He is the editor of BuckeyeFirearms.org, which received the Outdoor Writers of Ohio 2013 Supporting Member Award for Best Website.
Our family of highly effective pro-gun organizations includes Buckeye Firearms Association, Buckeye Firearms Foundation, and Buckeye Firearms Association PAC. Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that serves as the flagship of our grassroots efforts to defend and advance the right of citizens to own and use firearms for all legal activities, including self-defense, hunting, competition, and recreation. BFA works to pass pro-gun legislation, educate the public through ongoing media relations, provide high-quality firearm classes, and make available a wide variety of resources for gun owners. While anti-gun groups get their funding and support from wealthy activists or big corporations, BFA gets its funding and support from citizens like you who value their Constitutional rights. Thunder Roads Ohio to Host RUN n’ GUN Rides Ride aims to promote 2nd Amendment Awareness and support Buckeye Firearms Foundation and the NRA During the upcoming summer riding season, Thunder Roads Ohio will be hosting a number of poker runs throughout Ohio with a unique twist – they will also involve a shooting challenge for those with CCW Permits. Each run will include a variety of stops – including gun ranges, where participants will have a chance to shoot a simple target at 20’. Based upon their success, they will earn the chance to draw poker cards at the completion of the run. The rides will be hosted by Thunder Roads Ohio Magazine in partnership with local ranges, ride stops, and sponsors throughout Ohio and is aimed at supporting the Buckeye Firearms Foundation and their FASTER Saves Lives Program to train teachers and others to better protect our children – as well as local NRA programs. The cost of the ride is $25 and includes a t-shirt for each full participant registering in advance. Non-shooting passengers are just $10 – and are still entered in the prize drawings. Those 16 and younger can ride free, but cannot shoot or participate in the prize drawings. All shooting ride participants will be required to show a valid CCW permit upon registration. Riders are not required to take part in the shooting aspect of the ride and are invited to still join in support of their constitutional rights and the work that Buckeye Firearms and the NRA do. Registration and additional information is available through www.ThunderRoadsOhio.com Rides and stops are still being determined. Work is underway to coordinate rides in a number of cities, throughout Ohio and we anticipate most of the rides being held in June and July. If you own a gun range, shop, or other potential Ride Stop, please reach out as soon as possible for additional information at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com Ride Sponsorships are also available, email for more information. This is a dry run, without any alcohol, and any participants considered to be under the influence or not adhering to ride guidelines in any way will be excused without refund at the discretion of the ride organizers or those hosting stops. It is the responsibility of all participants to ensure that they are adhering to all proper laws and guidelines governing both the handling of firearms and operation of motor vehicles.

RECIPES
Here is one of the original recipes that made this site so popular! I love chicken wings!! I prefer them baked (less fat) and super flavorful. Here is how I bake them to keep them crispy. (People have stolen it and posted it as their own but TRUST ME this one is pure BCK!)
The Perfect Baked/Grilled Chicken Wings 2 lbs chicken wings, cut into 2 pieces with tips removed Preheat oven to 450 degrees Bring a large pot of half water half chicken broth to boiling. Boil the wings 8-10 minutes and remove to drain on a wire rack. (helps reduce some of the fat allowing for quicker crisping in the oven) Season the wings with your favorite DRY seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, etc.
Friday is Fish day baby and this recipe works on just about any kind (shrimp, oysters, clams, etc) not to mention chicken or veggies too!
Southern Fried Fish (or anything) Serve 4 (or 1 biker) ½ cup buttermilk 1 tablespoon lemon juice 4 – 3oz white fish fillets (cod, catfish, tilapia, etc) 1 cup oil for frying 1/3 cup cornmeal 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1 tsp paprika ½ tsp ground black pepper ½ tsp salt ½ tsp garlic powder ½ tsp dried thyme ¼ tsp celery seed 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Bake wings on a sheet pan coated with cooking spray, for 30 minutes, then turn wings over and cook the other side for another 10 minutes or you can toss them on the grill till they are crispy.
In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk and lemon juice.
Remove to a large bowl and toss in your favorite sauce.
Heat oil in large heavy skillet over medium heat.
Serve while hot
In a shallow bowl, mix together cornmeal and flour.
Add fish fillets, and marinate 5 minutes.
Season with paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, thyme and cayenne pepper.
Have a recipe that you’d like to share? Write it all down and send with a picture – to ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com Put RECIPE in the subject line. If we use it, we’ll send you copies of the magazines and a TRO T-Shirt – so include your address and t-shirt size as well! Thanks! - The Iron Cowboy
Dredge fish in cornmeal mixture. Fry cod fillets in hot oil until golden brown. Remove to paper towel to drain Serve with fried pickles and jalapenos dipped in the same buttermilk mix and cornmeal batter

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN... Arthur Davidson in Heaven
A tour bus driver drives with a bus full of seniors down a highway, when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady. She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up. After approximately 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts. She repeats this gesture about eight times. At the ninth time he asks the little old lady why they do not eat the peanuts themselves, whereupon she replies that it is not possible because of their old teeth, they are not able to chew them. “Why do you buy them then?” he asks puzzled, whereupon the old lady answers, “We just love the chocolate around them. A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to “honor” thy Father and thy mother,” she asked, “is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and
Al Gore decides to try riding a motorcycle, even though he has had no lessons or prior experience.
Arthur Davidson, of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Corporation died and went to Heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur, “Since you’ve been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is you can hang out with anyone you want in heaven”. Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, “I want to hang out with God.” St. Peter took Arthur to the throne room, and introduced him to God. Arthur then asked God, “Hey, aren’t you the inventor of woman?” God said, “Oh, yes.” “Well,” said Arthur, “professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention: There is too much inconsistency in the front-end protrusion. It chatters constantly at high speeds. Most of the rear ends are too soft and wobble too much. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust, and finally, The maintenance costs are outrageous.” “Hmmm, you may have some good points there,” replied God, “hold on.” God went to his celestial Super Computer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it. “Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,” God said to Arthur, “but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention then yours”.
He mounts the motorcycle uninstructed, turns it on and it immediately roars into motion. As it moves along faster and faster, Al begins to fall from the seat. In terror, he grips tightly on the handlebars, but can’t get a firm grip. He tries to throw his arms around the motorcycle’s gas tank, but he slides down the side of the motorcycle anyway. Finally giving up his frail grip, he tries to leap off the motorcycle and throw himself to safety. Unfortunately, his foot has become entangled in the exhaust pipes. He is now at the mercy of the motorcycle’s roaring wheels as his head is struck against the ground, over and over. He is moments away from unconsciousness when, to his great fortune, Wendell, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees him and unplugs the motorcycle.
