the atlas visual identity and app concept 2015 material: various The early purpose of project was developed as a concept for IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) scholarship competition in 2015. The brief: “Develop a communication campaign using new technologies in order to promote an artistic event. Find new ways to highlight the artistic heritage of your home country and make it available for everyone. Although the target program is Master in Business Administration for Arts and Cultural Events that focus on the application of technology to a dedicated event, I want to focus on the concept that connects people to participating in art and culture rather than developing on a particular event. The proposal for this competition was not completed on time, but after researching further, I kept working on this concept and expanded it to brand identity as well as an application for smart phone.

About The Atlas: The Atlas is an association that provides information of artists, cultural events and historical heritages in Ho Chi Minh City. It has a multi-disciples function and makes a bridge between artist and audience in community. In my opinion, the artwork of artist was reflected their own background that included their personal statement, their environment and their stories throughout project. In another way to say, there are many aspects participate in their works that popular audience is not always have full information and this leads to misunderstanding. I desire to build a concept that enhances communication between artist and audience.

KIEN - THE OBSERVATION - ANNUAL FESTIVAL visual identity - event design 12 | 2012 The event has been held annually by senior students to celebrate the spirit of the school of design since 1976. The main purpose of festival is welcome new students and farewell seniors before their graduation. There were many activities during the festival like several contests for student, art performance and artist fair. In 2012, I participated with other students came from Architecture Department to organise this special event.
Concept leader: Vo Duy Kim. Visual Leader: Ngo Dinh Le Thuy
KIẾN - OBSERVATION
• •
To create, to build as in ”kiến trúc” (building creation) means architecture To see, look, view as in “khả kiến” means can be seen, or “định kiến” (pre-existing viewpoint) means prejudice
Slogan: Nghĩ khác đi - Think different.
Theme meaning What we see is a projection image of our brains through the lens of the eyes. The images change with different lens like in a mirror house or through looking glass, they can be smaller, bigger, rounder, distorted. Whatever the effects, they produce a different way of seeing things in an unconventional way. This is the foundation of creativity, a change in point of view. Artists since 20th century have been constantly seeking new ways of seeing the world like we’ve never seen before. Each individual has different ways of seeing, reflecting unique working mechanism of each brain, and yet, no viewpoint is exactly the same as others. Through the theme of the event, we encourage the students to freely express their ways of viewing and thinking, to seek their suitable paths, and explore their creativity.

Moodboard - Inspiration:Constructivism. Logo – key visual The logo starts with a golden ration rectangle, considered as a perfect form, a classic symbol of true beauty. The notion of a perfect beauty draws a line around us, a frame of rules and prejudices, limiting our possibilities of thinking and creating. A slash was added, cutting the golden rectangle, smashing all the pre–existing ways of seeing the world. Let go of the rule, let go of the prejudice and see the world in your own way. The slash opens new roads ahead of us, tangle, frustrating, and not yet to be formed because it constantly evolves, it’s always a new start, and endless journey of exploring all the possibilities. Those lines are like sketches, exploring, free from rules.

QUESTION
PURPOSE
I had a memorial voluntary period in Dakglei, Kontum - the border area in Highland of Vietnam on July 2010, and it became my life-changing time. After that time I came back to this border area several times in 2011,2012 and 2015 to revisit local people and lived with them in around 2-4 weeks each time, so that I have chance to enjoy their culture in Kontum province. The main ethnic groups living in there are Gie Trieng and Stieng, they both have prominent cultures, and in spite of living in a same small region (Ngok Linh district), it’s very surprising that they cannot communicate to each other fluently because of different languages.
The aim of this work is mapping location of inhabitation. The color was selected based on 5 language families that have affected by neighbor countries of Vietnam. Some regions like Northeast and Northwest having the most diversity languages and groups, while the South or Highland minority groups are mostly use Malayo-Polynesian and Austroasiatic language.
I realize although the ethnic groups population is just 10 million people and maintains approximately 13% of Vietnam population, they are holding very various identities as well as standing a deep roof in Vietnam culture. Vietnam is a multiethnic country with over fifty distinct groups (53 are recognized by the Vietnamese government), each with its own language, lifestyle, and cultural heritage.
The question is how the language of 53 groups in Viet Nam can effect to each other, and their distribution in regions have any connection with other minority groups in neighbor country like Cambodia, Laos and China.

who like whom in the middle east? personnal project December | 2015 Data visualization for mapping the complex relationship of Middle East region Redesigned. The purpose of this project is practice analyzing skill in data visualization. Using data extracted by informationisbeautiful. com, I want to remake another print version. As David Mc Candless had pointed out in previous interactive version for Guardian Data which was published on September 2014, the relationship between groups, political organizations or even the territory in Middle East is very complicated. I want to give a full depiction and more sense to this version. By using the purple - pink color and stary night I want to make the mood of dreaming region like the mood in Arabic Story “One Thousand and One Nights. In my point of view, those relationships is very mystical and contain too much unpredictability. It also gives a peaceful sense that I always wish for this violent region.\ The most hated player in Middle East is Islamic State often known as ISIS, mostly have no friend. And the group is hated most is not surprisingly Al-Queda.

SAIGON - A BRIEF HISTORY july | 2013 material: paper
Infographic illustrates Saigon’s history for mini magazine - a part of my graduation project in Ho Chi Minh city University of Architecture. The name Saigon connects many generations in my family, when we talk about it, we talked about a sense of nostalgia, a glory memory never comes back. That was the reason I chose “Saigon” for my graduation project. And as a part of this I do some research about its history and make it to an infographic. Ho Chi Minh city which former name “Saigon” is a young city in comparison with Hanoi in Vietnam. It’s only over 300 years of development in 2015. In its history, Saigon had several name, at first it was call “Gia Dinh” under the rule of Nguyen Dynasty from 1690 to 1860. After that, it was renamed by French colonial empire and kept that name until the capital Saigon was taken over by Communist and renamed to Ho Chi Minh City.

INTELLIGENT IS SEXY. BUT WHY? personal project 2014 material : paper

Small typographic illustrates an online articles for explaining why intelligence is sexy. According to Justin Gammill, the author, there are 3 main reasons for human attraction to intelligence: the desire of sustainable fulfillment, the higher sex driver demand and the basic instinct of our revolution. The term “SAPIOSEXUAL” is “One who finds intelligence the most sexually attractive feature; behaviour of becoming attracted to or aroused by intelligence and its use.” One of my personal hobbies is reading psychology facts in my spare time. Sometimes facts and information reading on Internet are not considered as trustable documents. However, I read this article online and questioned myself why not I visualize it for easier to understand. By focusing on keywords in the article, the infographic can be seen as a summary, helping readers skim and scan main ideas of article as well as putting a humorous sense on words.

C D - P A C KA G IN G DESIG N “PRAY FOR JAPAN” project at school year: 2011 material: paper

task Design a CD cover with booklet inside use typography as a main material.
My chosen topic: The 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku was a magnitude 9.0 (Mw) undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred on Friday 11 March 2011. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded to have hit Japan, and the fourth most powerful earthquake in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900. The earthquake and tsunami also caused extensive and severe structural damage in north-eastern Japan, including heavy damage to roads and railways as well as fires in many areas, and a dam collapse. Thousands of people died and injured or missed in this disaster, million households living without clean water and electricity. I read news and update about them in days and had a deep respect on Japanese spirit when facing with disaster, therefor I chose the topic: Design CD for raising fund after disaster and raise awareness about humanity.
method Extracting information about this mega earthquake from google, Wikipedia and media, highlight some number like the magnitude (9.0), the date of disaster (March 11, 2011) for raising awareness of damage. The red/white/black color set was chosen as main colors that stand for Japanese spirit: simple and strong message for people recognition. As task demanded using of simple typo and graphic, the red circle was repeated throughout booklet combined with blur effect on typography made shocking sense.

group project 2014 material: paper
The idea of making this project came from our same thought about Vietnamese culture nowadays. Vietnam is well-known for wars in last several decades, we are assumed as a propaganda country with its vacuous victories in the past. But that’s not all about Vietnam today. We are 2 designer and illustrator who observed things changed in our country in last 20 year and want to illustrate the unwell-known characters/event/objects in Vietnam modern culture. They are the combination of our imagination and traditional images we learned from books and previous generations, and give them a new and modern transformation. Some of characters include the gay King of the last Vietnam dynasty, the boy who sold lottery tickets but then forced to become the king of the street, the Vietnamese lady who is no longer shy and hides behind her traditional Ao Dai but shines bright like a goddess, a Vietnamese Marilyn Monroe. Another point we need to mention is the deck was consider as a canvas to express our works. At first, we wanted to make a collection of flashcards but the use of flashcards was not very practical in Vietnamese. Presenting our illustrations under the cards gets more attention in community My role in this project is illustrator for some characters which will be introduced below, packaging designer for the box and main copy writer. The project was exhibited in 3A station (creative zone for artist in Ho Chi Minh city) and Toa Tau (creative educational orgranisation ) in 2014.

1- Tò he (toy figurine) is a traditional toy for children in Vietnam which is made from glutinous rice powder and formed to animals, flowers or characters in folk stories. 2. Xe Lam: Xe Lam is the Vietnamese name of Lambro style-3 wheels by Lambretta which was manufactured in Italy. It brings joy and the famous slogan “make love not war” with it. 3. Sugarcane Lady: Saigoneses are familiar with the picture of a lady holding a glass of sugarcane juice, which is drawn on almost all sugarcane juice carts throughout Saigon. 4. Mobile noodle stall: very popular in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), it is likely a flexible and movable noodle restaurant. Vietnamese vendors usually sell meals like noodles, Pho, rice cake.. on this stall, and they sell at night, then after a day of hard working, they will take all of these chairs and ta-
bles, buckets to be carried on this stall, like they put their lives on it. 5. The áo dài is a Vietnamese national costume, now commonly worn by women. 6. Vietnamese Lion: one of Vietnamese tradition strongly effected by Chinese culture. It usually performs in our Lunar New Year and Mid Autumn Festival. 7. Nghinh Ong Festival: The Nghinh Ông festival is a chance for fishermen to express their gratitudes towards the Nam Hai god (the God Whale) and sea gods for protecting and supporting fishermen in their daily lives and at sea, and to pray for peace and a good harvest. 8. Terrace field mixed with the iconic image of mother carry son on her back.

T H E M AG IC J AR illustration book project at school 2012 material use: paper
A story about the bird who was too arrogant to make friend with others. As a bird he assumed that happiness is all about having a fantastic voice and fame in his world. One day he accidently found a jar that contained a magical waterr that brought his dream to be true. After that he became so arrogant and cannot make a real friend, he was very upset and asked himself why he doesn’t have happiness. The wise Peacock told him the real happiness is something needs to be share to others. The story was written by myself in 2012 for my study, it expressed my idea of happiness or fulfillment, this is not simply a joy when you’re satisfied with goals you get in life but the sharing and kindness make you be a fulfilled man.

One of my hobbies is wandering around city and taking pictures by my phone, put them into collages, remix them to beautiful artworks by apps, not by any software. The symmery project was inspired by a quote “ Design is making ordirnary to extraordinary”. Everything contains a beauty inside, and all I do is trying to capture this hidden beauty. The series was taken during Saigon Tet Holiday 2014, while most of people having good time with their family, those man still stay at their working place and enjoy the Tet atmosphere in their own style. When I watched them from distance, I used to assume that they were very lonely but after talking to them, I realise there are not much people can actually enjoy the Tet rather than those man. They were very peacful and relaxing. Moreover, this silent moment in Saigon is very hard to find in our busy lives, I want to capture beautiful moment like this.
