FORM STUDY, ARCH 251
A Greeting from me! Hello! Welcome to my architecture portfolio, which represents the work I have done in my undergraduate architecture study. My philosophy of doing architecture design is to find a balance between form and space; I strongly believe that architecture has devoted special attention to both the arts and the humanities. Architecture is not merely a discipline which touches upon other disciplines, but rather an intricate combination of all the subjects studied and celebrated in civil society.

PROJECTS STATEMENT These form studies are done during the second year studio, and they are all individual projects. During this year, our studio focused a lot on the foundations of architecture, and one of these foundations is form study. I made a lot of models in order to better understand the form relating to the space and the structure. The one on the right does not use any glue, and all the piece are linked to each other by pins. I have learned a lot by doing these models and this contributed a lot in my later building design projects.

PROJECTS STATEMENT This project is the to re-form the BB&T building in Asheville, NC. The reason that the developer whats to redesign it is because the building is not looks very beautiful. Because this building should be the landmark of the city, so my big idea to reform this building is to apply the idea of crystal, and make the building have an elegant feeling. Also people in the city of asheville love crystal and I want to make the crystal become a part of the city. I use the glass to frame the building and make the building have a sense of the crystal.

家庭暴力預防教育中心設計作品 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION EDUCATION CENTER
Westminster, SC, United States
ARCH 351, Fall 2013, Clemson Univeristy Prof. Annemarie Jacques Individual Project
PROJECT STATEMENT This project is intended to design a place for the education in order to prevend domistic violence. The concept of this project is using natural light to create an envronment which can heal those people who get hurts from the domestic violence psychologically. The way that I introduce the light into building is let the light from day time can through the building from different direction accompany the rought of the sun path, and control the amount of light through the building. Thus a feeling of dawning can be created. I believe the dawning is the most beautiful time of the day which can bring the most wonderful feeling to people.

建築室外立面渲染表現圖 BUILDING EXTERIOR RENDERINGS
RENDERING STATEMENT The renderings of the building is using the gray scale to represent the sense of piece, as the idea of the design is to bring the light into building and to create a feeling to heal the people who got hurt from domestic violence. There are three exterior rendings including the one in the project statement page, and each of these shows the representitive view of the building. Together using other elements to represent the relation between buildings and surrounding environment.
27
場地分析 SITE ANALYSIS
STATEMENT The site is located in the downtown Westminster. I did the analysis of the traffic and predestrian paths, in order to have a better understanding of the site. Westminster is a very small town and most are residentials area. There is railway pass through the town, which will produce some unwanted sound. In diagrams, I highlighted the rails and the roads which show the access to the site.

SECTION STATEMENT I did two sections of the building, one in a verticle direction and another in the horizontal section. The section shows the relation of the space between different floors and shows the balcony area. In the verticale section one, there shows the relation between the external objects and internal space. Both of the two sections shows the footing of the building, which is an important part of the structure.

建築室內渲染 INTERIOR RENDERINGS
RENDERING STATEMENT The rendering of the interior is using the grey scale, mainly to illustrate a sense of the space. The two rendering I did is the first floor big gathering room and the second floor small meeting space. Doing these rendering can hightlight the concept of the design, which is bringing the light from outside to inside to create a soft bright feeling to the building.
32
SPACE DESIGN STATEMENT The progamming of the building is following the function requirements, which needs meeting space, conference room, office space and reception area. My idea to distribute these space is to make the flowing as smooth as possible and efficiently use the space of the building. I create the lobby and reception area in a very large scale in order to impress people who visit there.

Threat: Neighboring Buildings
Threat: Through Traffic
Strength/Opportunity: Greenspace
Opportunity: Creek
Threat: Lighting
The site is mainly surrounded by residental buildings. It is important to understand the surrounding areas because the inhabitants of the site need to be safe.
There is a road that goes completely through the site. This road is used as a thoroughfare and stays fairly busy during the day. This could pose a potential threat to people living on the site.
Our site consist of lots of greenspace. This allows for a lot of opportunity to use the greenspace in our design
There is a creek running directly next to our site. This creek can give us a great opportunity to use in our design. There is potential to create a calming natural environment.
The main entrance to our site is very dark at night. There were no street lights to illuminate the area posing a potential threat to people living on the site. This shows potential placement of street lighting

PROJECT STATEMENT This area in Charleston is in the exit of I-20, which is an very important part of the city. However, this area is relatively undeveloped. This project is intend to improve this area and make this area have balance with the city. The concept of the project is trying use the most efficient way, both in traffic and predestrian to make the city environemently affinity. Another big part of the design is make function have balanced in this area. Like commercial area and residential area, these are seriously considered in this project. City is made for people and people should live in a comfortable way.

SITE SUN PATH ANALYSIS
SITE ANALYSIS EXPLANATION The site is located in the upper Charleston, SC. The project is intended to redesign this area in order to fit in the city in a better way. Before make the design decision, me and my partner made the site analysis specifically in this area, to analysis the sun path, wind direction and heat consumption. Sun is the main heat source of that area, thus, we put close attention to the energy level given by the sun in different time of the day, which labled from red to light orange arrows to represent different energy level. For the heat consumption, we did the analysis based on the currently residential in that area, the higher density, the more energy will be consumed.

ANALYSIS STATEMENT Before we doing the design, me and my partner detailly analysised the site area from the traffic flowing to the predestrian walking. This is a significant part because we should know the existing condition of the area, and try to improve that area. Diagram one shows the heavy traffic and light traffic. Diagram two shows the pretential incoming traffic, and diagram three shows the possible exiting traffic.Diagram four shows the nodes in that area and how those nodes will influence the traffic condition in that area. Those diagram help us have better understaning of the site and thus can push the design much further.

BLOCK & FUNCTION STATEMENT The block design is mainly focused on the flowing of the population in that area, make people and traffic move as easy as possible. When doing the fuction design, me and my partner deliberately thinking each part of the parcel in that area based on the surrounding building context and the willingness of the people. So, eventually, we put the commercial buildings in the very right as it is close to the main traffic, and put the residential in the very left as that area is most quite compare to other place.

場地分析 SITE ANALYSIS
PROJECT STATEMENT This project is intend to make the research of the balance between the environment and human beings. The concept of this project is fit people in the gap between buildings. The site of this project is between two academic buildings in my college. This two buildings are both belonging to the school of architecture, and students move between this two buildings frequently everyday. Although there is a interior corridors but the exterior connection is almost like vacccum. However, lots of students will chose that space to consider as a leisure area. Buildings are created for human beings, so from both internal and external, it should be balanced for the people to live or temperary stay.

Personal Exercise Project During Summer Break 2013
PROJECT STATEMENT This project was done during the sophomore year summer break for personal exercise, intend to enhance my design skills and modeling skills. The style of the building is in traditional Chinese style because this is a drama theater mainly used for the performance of traditional Chinese drama. This project took about 2 weeks to accomplish with the site of my own choice. The reason I did this project is because after sophomore year, I completed the architecture foundation studios. So before I went to the third year studios I want to make a summerizaiton and test the skills I learned in the previous years, to make a preperation before the third year.

Clemson, SC, United States
ARCH 251, Spring 2013, Clemson University Prof. Robert Silance Individual Project
PROJECT STATEMENT This project is done in architecture foundation studio, which focused on the form study. In this work, I used a lot of identical shape as the basic unit, and then but these units together to create a larger shape of form. The entire project does not use any glue, all the connection methode is by using the thread. What I have learned in this project is the idea of how to create something from a relatively small scale to a larger scale. Also, I think this is a very good study of surface texture of the building, which is a very important part of the architecture design.

物體附著衍伸藝術形態研究作品 FORM STUDY OF THE ATTACHED GROWING OBJECT Clemson, SC, United States ART 205, Summer 2012, Clemson University Instructor: Todd Steward Individual Project
PROJECT STATEMENT This is an art project that I have done in my sculpture class. This project is mainly to create a form which growth from a main object. The main object is a broom, and the material of the growing unit is the plastic membrane. I placed a metal wire through the broom to fix the shape of the form I designed, and then attach those small piece of plastic membrane onto the matel wire. Since the plastic membrane is flexble to expand, so the a dynamic shape is created. What I have learned in this project is to create a form using mixed material, which I think is a very useful skill in architecture design.

I like to travel, and traveling is an inseparable part of my life. Traveling brings me deep relaxation. Being in the different cities of different parts of the world gives me a profound culture shock not only limited in the way that city planned or how architecture built, but also widely in the way that people live. From Shanghai to Tokyo, from Beijing to NYC, from Osaka to LA, what impressed me most was the way that how people interact with cities. As an architecture student and also a future architect, I should always put the human in the first position when I doing design. Those cities I have traveled developed a good foundation of understanding the relationship between human and their surrouding environment.
