2015 - 2018 by ALBERT WANG
Dear Potential Mentor:
experience it........
As an avid traveler and observer of world cultures, the goal to create architecture sensitive to globalization deeply resonates with me. In 2007, I started my architecture journey at Xiamen University in China. Two years later, I decided to move and continued my education at University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. I obtained a Bachelor of Architecture from UNSW in 2012. One year later, I enrolled in Texas A&M University and revived a Master of Architecture degree in 2013. Encouraged by Prof. Kirk Hamilton and Prof. George Mann, I have developed a strong interest and skills in health facility design. During my graduate study at Texas A&M, I have chosen several courses which enhanced my knowledge in health systems and design. Examples include Typologies of Contemporary Hospital Design with Prof. Hamilton, a healthcare graduate design Studio with Prof. Mann, the Health Lecture Series organized by Prof. Mann, and health focused Design Programming with Dr. Mardelle Shepley. Besides coursework, I was intensively involved in professional development activities. I was a member of AIAS and the graduate representative for the Student Health Environments Association (SHEA). I volunteered and attended the Health Care Design conference at San Diego, 2014. I have participated in healthcare design competitions and charrettes, and the team I led was awarded first place at the AIA SES 2015 design competition in Houston for a medical school and hospital in Austin. My architecture practice started at Bates Architects after graduation till February 2018. I worked alongside many experienced planning professionals concentration on several large healthcare facilities. I worked on different phases on those large scale projects from master planning, programming & planning, SD, DD and CD. Besides these large projects, I have also worked on some smaller healthcare projects such as clinic renovations, senior living and free standing surgery center. I had the chance to present my design and communicate with clients in some of those smaller projects. On top of all those project experiences, I was be able to stay on top of all the new technologies used in design because Bates is a technology driven firm. I believe passion, eager to learn, great mentorship and social activity involvement are four key aspects to accelerate a young professional’s success like myself. I have passion in architecture since I started this journey in 2007 and I will never stop learning. Now I am seeking a place can provide great mentorship and guidance for me to grow. A place can help me to achieve my goal. Best Regards Albert.
