D6: Audi Car Dealership Calatrava Inspired Design
1
An academic response in the middle of the city of Santo Domingo. I was given the task of choosing an architect and a vehicle brand to design a car dealership. My Choice was Santiago Calatrava and the Audi Brand. Inspired by the design of Calatrava’s suspension bridges and the clean simplicity of Audi’s Design. The dealership minimum floor space opens the terrain to the public as an exhibition place and urban space. The parking was placed on the inside limits of the terrain leaving the corner and most of the terrain free for public use. The design have 4 main parts, the elongated pyramid triangle which serves as a column that supports the rectangle body, the bridge which houses the office and restrooms for employees and clients, the suspension cables which gives movement to already stiff bodies and the urban space which accentuates the model and serves as a recreation park. The cars on exhibition are around the park and below the bridge body, on a platform shaped by the Audi Logo and surrounded by a water mirror reinstating the bridge inspired design.

D9: Apartment Tower
Response to another apartment towers in the area
7
This is an academic response to a series of buildings in the city of Santo Domingo and was meant to give diversity to the area filled by the same kind of apartments. The idea was to create two bodies twisting and leaning to opposite sides. While working on the model the design changed to a more simple and elegant look while remaining with the twist and leaning ideas. The tower was divided into two extruded rectangles joined by the elevator and stairs module. Both bodies were partially covered with a slanted square leaning to opposite sides form the other square. The twisting and leaning aspect was accentuated by the rectangle part that were not covered by the slanted square. With the covers on each side of the two bodies, the parts that sticked out were worked with the most transparency possible using the front as a balcony and the back as a floor to ceiling window.
D10: Kindergarten National contest entry
13
This design was to propose a kindergarten for kids from 1 to 5 for a national contest in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The task was to develop a kindergarten with all the space requirements for children rooms to draw and rest, restrooms, administration, cafeteria and recreation areas for the kids. The design was based on a tree sprout given the context of young humans starting their life. I’ve started with the sprout, and extracting the geometry of it. Wanting to convey a simple yet embracing design, I’ve develop two branches that, with the recreation space in the middle, completed the composition of a leaf sprouting from a single base at the corner. The kindergarten was worked as a single level building to minimize tripping hazards and maximize accessibility to disabled. The roof was worked in gabled with air escapes at the top for ventilation and temperature control.

Grade Project: Urban Anatomy Comparison between the Human Anatomy and Urban Morphology In collaboration with Arq. Rose jimenez
19
The objective of the project was to compare the morphology of urban plans and cities with the morphology of human anatomy and the different systems the human body have. On our proposal we designed a Civic Center surrounded by a park which connects the center to a natural reservation, beach, lake and mangrove swamp and the revamping of an old baseball field adjacent to the area. The center was placed in an empty field which is in the middle of all the natural attractions in the area of Haina, Dominican republic. The objective of the project is to give the community a center for education, cultural and artistic faculties. It counts with a cafeteria, classrooms for technical courses, art galleries and installations, and a theater. The design was based on the vertebras of the human skeleton and given that Haina has the nearest port to the city, the column system of the port was taken into account for the design. The site plan was based on the circulatory system where the center connects to all the other places while being in the middle.

Working at Marim & Group
27
This residence was designed and built with the team at marim & group Inversionistas Company in Santo domingo, Dominican Republic. We had a long and narrow area with a decent on the back side of the terrain. Limited by the city rules we could only make a 4 level building with 16 to 18 apartments depending on the density of the area and the size of the apartments. Given the circumstances we opted with developing two buildings with 8 apartments each and putting them besides in just one long side of the terrain and leaving the other side for parking. Because of the receding ground level at the end we had to design half of the second building with a columns and beams structure different from the structural masonry. Also we used the difference in ground level to add roofed parking below the building and a study. We wanted to give the appearance of one cohesive building and with the colors making the building appear more horizontal so it does not stand out as much on the area which is filled with 1 and 2 level houses. Balconies where worked with a smooth curve to give it a more simple appearance. And the garden and division of parks where accentuated by Traveler’s palms giving the space a more tropical look while giving the vehicles shadow on the evening.

Apartment Renovation Simple renovation
33
Renovation of an old apartment on Bella Vista, Santo Domingo. the clients wanted to change a few things in their apartment before moving in. They wanted to repurpose the service room for a walking closet and the bathroom to a half restroom for the living room. they also wanted to expand the kitchen and change the tiles of the laundry area. Because of the repurposing of the service room, the door and the window were removed and partially covered on the inside, leaving the indentation on the outer side to turn it in to trays for cleaning products for the laundry area. The wall on the side of the sink in the restrrom was worked with mosaic tiles to stand out from the rest of the restroom. The expansion of the kitchen was worked with the same design as the old kitchen and painted white. and the counter top was replaced with a granite one to modernize the appearance of the kitchen. the wall on the side of the stove were covered in square baige colored tiles.
Bachelor’s Villa Beach villa
39
It started with a sketch I did. the idea was to have a body partially covered by a shell. looking to remain simple yet have a few contrasting things like the curves and sharp edges. It has two levels because as a beach bachelor’s villa I wanted the first floor to act as the meeting and social place with a big living room looking at the terrace and pool. And the second floor to be a private and personal area. The color used is to accentuate the differences between the body and the shell. Red representing the new body and the white shell which anchores the red to a water body.
