This is the main text, a Commentary on the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, studied in the Monastic Universities. The Abhisamayaalaṅkāra “Ornament of Realisations” is one of five Sanskrit-language Mahāyāna Buddhist scriptures which Maitreya is said to have been revealed to Asaṅga (4th century AD). It is a commentary on the Prajñaparamita Sutras and describes the entire journey of a bodhisattva, from the generation of bodhicitta to the attainment of full omniscience.
1
The text is divided into eight categories, which correspond to the eight chapters and the eight realisations necessary for attaining Buddhahood. These eight categories fall into three groups: 1.Knowledge of all aspects (Sarvākārajñatā, rnam pa tham cad mkhen pa): Omniscient mind 2.Knowledge of paths (M rg k rajñat , lam shes pa): Wisdom attained by bodhisattvas 3.Knowledge of the basis (Sarvajñat , gzhi shes pa): Wisdom attained by sravakas and pratyekabuddhas.
