Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho Set For Epic Showdown
Kevin Owens defends his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns on Sunday night at Roadblock: End of the Line as the former Shield member looks to make history by becoming the first ever dual United States and Universal Champion. Whilst many rumours suggest that it could be Roman that walks out victorious on Sunday night, it seems that Owens may actually retain his Championship because WWE is hoping to save his title loss for a match that could be much bigger. Owens and Jericho have been the most entertaining thing on Monday Night Raw for the past few months and the fact that WWE has decided to break them up now means that they obviously have something much bigger planned for them. Since Roman looks to be moving onto a feud with Braun Strowman heading into WrestleMania season, it means that it’s unlikely that he will
continue his rivalry with Kevin Owens after this weekend. Instead, it seems that Chris Jericho could be set to interfere in the match and set up a match between the duo at The Royal Rumble. The WWE Universe isn’t the biggest fan of Roman Reigns so giving him two championships could be a bad idea, allowing Kevin Owens to keep the title instead would be a much better idea. The fact that Owens has held the title ever since Finn Balor dropped it the night after SummerSlam this year means that Finn could well come back and challenge Owens for the title he never lost in a few months time. A match between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho would definitely be worthy of a place on the thirtieth anniversary of The Royal Rumble and could well be the highlight of the show. There is already so much planned for the Rumble event in January with many fans rumouring that a match between AJ Styles and Shawn Micheals set to be added to the card. Brock Lesnar and Goldberg will also be in The Royal Rumble match itself in one of the biggest Rumble events in years. The fact that Chris Jericho could be set to leave WWE soon to go off and tour with his band Fozzy means that he probably wouldn’t win the Universal Championship from his former friend, but that doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t be the perfect climax to a feud that has been set in motion now for the past few weeks.
Jericho is supposed to leave to tour with his band at some point in January, which means that the former Undisputed WWE Champion could well leave the company once again after the match with his former friend. This would then allow Owens to step into a feud with either the winner of The Royal Rumble
heading into wwe wrestlemania tickets or whoever it is that is named the next challenger for his title. There is no doubting the fact that WWE was right to put the title on Owens because he has been a fantastic Champion over the past few months. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have been put into feuds that make sense to the overall picture and allow WE to build towards the Royal Rumble effectively. Having a lengthy reign with the title after Finn Balor was forced to drop it so suddenly has allowed a certain amount of credibility to be gained over the past few months and many argue that Kevin Owens was the only man who could have done this. His alliance with Chris Jericho was made because neither man had any other friends and they decided that they would always have each other’s back because they knew what it was like to be alone. As a duo, Jericho and Owens were the best thing on Raw or even in WWE for months and as sad as it is that WWE has now broken them up, at least it means that there will be a blowout match between them. Jericho may be leaving the company soon, but Y2J has found a way to fit in with the WWE Universe over and over again for the past few decades and he will obviously return to the company in the future, but it will be interesting to see how WWE say goodbye to the legend once again at The Royal Rumble in a few weeks time.
