July 2014
Who’s Who!!! Name—Tina Bennett Position— Tic Toc’s Area Manager I have an arts and crafts background, I have a degree in three dimensional design and before Tic Toc I used to help manage a clothes shop in Brighton. I’ve worked at Tic Toc from the very beginning, I started out as trainee Playworker at our Sompting club. As I had no real experience of working with school aged children, I went on as many day courses I could book myself on to expand my knowledge and understanding. I gradually worked my way up through the ranks and after gaining an NVQ Level 3 in Playwork I become Sompting’s Play Leader! For two years I relished the roll and loved that fact that I was making a real impact in so many young people's lives. Unfortunately in 2013 I was unable to work in the club any longer as I was diagnosed with pancreatitis, although this left me physically unwell, I could sit at the computer and I concentrated on creating Tic Toc’s promotional leaflets, magazine adverts and newsletters. It was great to get back into designing and being creative again. After my operation I was on top form and was presented with an offer to become Tic Toc’s Area Manager, this is my current roll (as well as designing all of Tic Toc’s visual material) and although I’m still learning a lot it’s great to see how my suggestions and skills are helping to improve the service we give to the children and their parents.
Help! Does the company you work for have a lot of recycling bins? Do they pay for someone to take it away? Are they constantly shelling out for someone to take reusable card, plastic, or paper away? Is there always an excess of packaging or reusable materials that naturally accumulate as a by-product? If the answer is YES! Why not tell us about it, we are supporting a new local charity called ‘The Resource Gallery’ they can take this away. Contact the office on 01903 536637 or email us at info@tictocplay.com In our clubs we also need your help, we need beach towels, wood, blankets, large sheets. Just pop them in club!
Unexpected School Closure Insurance If your club has to close due to adverse weather like snow or a power cut in the school or teacher’s strike then you are still required to pay for the session. This helps us to cover our costs and keeps the overall price down as low as possible. We have been searching for a way to credit you back for the closure and consequently have designed an insurance policy to pay for the session in this event. Join our Insurance policy, to receive a full refund in the event of the club not opening due to adverse weather conditions. If you do not choose to take out the insurance you will be required to pay for all sessions even if the club does not open.

At the end of the last holiday club, we sent out via email a parents questionnaire. As an incentive to fill it out we set a competition; out of the people who took their own time to fill in the questionnaire. We entered them into a prize draw to win lunch2go vouchers worth over £20 pounds. We would like to congratulate Mrs Hayward for taking part and winning five FREE lunch2go vouchers to use in the summer holiday club.
Well done, Mia Cassaleetto at our Sompting After School Club. This is a beautiful piece of artwork drawn in an array of coloured chalk, it must of taken you ages! Well done! Kids Competition We had a competition in all our club’s to design a Tic Toc Play welcome card, the prize was a £15 Toy ‘R’Us voucher and the pride of knowing their card design was going out to every new child starting with us from now on. Congratulations to Mia Cetti for creating the best card, it looks fantastic in the new child starter packs.
Are you aware of the
new government changes for childcare setting?
These following changes are outrageous! 1.If your club cares for children who are in the Reception year or older, all qualification requirements (ie Level 3 or Level 2 qualifications in childcare or Playwork) for managers and staff have been removed. Instead it will be up to the provider to decide on what childcare or Playwork qualifications they want their staff to have. (para 3.40). 2.Out of school clubs will not need to meet the EYFS learning and development requirements. This means that there will be no requirement to deliver the EYFS 'curriculum' or to observe and assess the EYFS children. The exemption from delivering the EYFS curriculum also applies to children younger than Reception age who attend your out of school club. (para 3.40) http://www.outofschoolalliance.co.uk/eyfs-2014 3.If your club cares for children who are in the Reception year or older, the minimum staff ratio for out of school clubs will become 1: 30 children. (Para 3.40) yes that means 1 unqualified adult to 30 children. 4.Note that other training requirements remain in force, for example you still need staff with paediatric first aid training, food hygiene training, child protection training, etc.
Linda, the Director of Tic Toc Play would like to reassure parents that our company has taken great pride in having qualified, experience staff & always gone above and beyond the staff ratio set by Ofsted. The company spent £4,950 on training last year, this is how important it is to us. We do and always will strive for a better service for our parents and children. Tic Toc minimum standards far exceed what is required of us (from above) and always will!; 1.All our staff have a childcare qualification or are working towards one. All our staff go through a 3hr introduction session before starting and 10 compulsory training in-house training sessions by our highly qualified Playwork trainers. It does not stop there, First Aid, Food and Hygiene, Health and Safety, Safe Guarding, Behaviour Training etc all within 3 months of joining the company and those experience staff members update all of their training regularly. 2.The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage Reception children aged 4yrs – 5yrs) we will continue to have the best care and our staff are at this present time working on planning and how we can continue to communicate with parents to a high standard. 3.This is and always has been in place at Tic Toc Play, we strive for all our staff to achieve these certificates. 4.Our ratio will not change, we’ll continue to employ 6-8 staff for the afterschool clubs & 3-4 staff for our breakfast clubs. Safety is paramount to us providing you with a high quality service. No short measures or cuts with Tic Toc Play. Your children deserve the best, safest and highest quality care and we are here to provide it. Water Bottle In the holiday club we are asking you to provide your child with a named water bottle. We have many children with allergies and we feel this is better option for all, so no cups are shared. You asked so we’ve changed! We’ve been asked time and time again if we can change the way we invoice people from half-termly to a more manageable monthly invoice. We’ve been working like busy bee’s buzzing around in our office and we’ve now completed the changes needed in our computer systems which will allow us to send out monthly invoices! Hooray!!!! Please take a look at the separate sheet I’ve included with this newsletter for more details. N.B. As of the 1st sept 2014, the minimum cheque value we can accept is £25.
