Ronald Reagan was president and “The Cosby Show” reigned supreme on TV when the long list of polluted “areas of concern” in the Great Lakes was compiled in 1987. But so little progress has been made on that environmental cleanup since then that the list reads essentially the same today as it did more than a quarter of a century ago. Everyday we hear about global evironmental concerns and predictions of catastrophy and often it gets our backs up. But better placement of attention for the common citizen should be in preventing some of the catastrophy that can be happening right in their own back yard.

We are the Enviable and Fragile Minnesota! Think of What We've Got! Minnesota sits at the crossroads of three major ecosystems—prairies to the west, boreal forests to the north, and hardwoods to the south—and its forests with approximately 2.2 billion trees (give or take a few million) that ..... reflect the variety of the State’s unique location. There are 11,842 listed lakes, ranging in depth from a wading 2 feet, to the ship graveyard depth of 1,333 feet and from the world record size of 20,365,000 acres, to the just over pond size of a half acre. There are 6,564 (69,200 miles) of natural rivers and streams. GOTO: http://en.wikipedia. Prior to European settlement, more than 18 million acres of prairie covered org/wiki/List_of_lakes Minnesota and were part of the largest ecosystem in North America, one _in_Minnesota stretching from Canada to Mexico, from the Rockies to Indiana and providing Or scan this QR Code a wealth of diverse species, habitats and cultures. Today, less than 2% of Minnesota's native prairie remains, and it is part of North America's most endangered habitat type. This near elimination of the prairies, old forests, and the sometimes disasterous conditions of our lakes and waterways, has inspired many efforts to protect, preserve, and re-new the earth's most precious resource. However, these continuous efforts take (and, I know, you've heard it before) a huge amount of human involvement and concern.
