WELCOME TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY FAIR

To our Fair Friends and Family: DANNY BYRUM Isle of Wight County Fair Chairman

On behalf of Isle of Wight County Fair Committee, I would like to kindly invite you to our award-winning County Fair. The Committee has planned another great event to honor our rich agricultural heritage. Our theme for this year is “Country Nights — Carnival Lights” to celebrate our agricultural ties with our community. As you visit the various areas of the fair, you will see quite a few things going on, focusing on the theme. We have two events for an early kick-off to the fair this year with the highly popular Truck and Tractor Pull on the night of Saturday, Sept. 10, and the ever popular Seafood Fest on Wednesday, Sept. 14, featuring the band ”Strictly Bizzness,” a regional favorite in the area. There are several new and exciting things at the fair this year in addition to some of the very popular attractions we have had in past

years. New last year was the Hay Bale decorating contest, where round bales of hay are decorated by the schools, various businesses and few by individuals. It was so popular last year, we have added more bales for this fair. Also, this Danny Byrum year, fair attendees will have a variety of options when ordering advance tickets online, including two and three-day passes, carload night vouchers, and premium seating tickets for our Saturday night concert, providing attendees guaranteed up front seating. The popular “Mutton Busting” will be back this year, where kids, 60 pounds and under, can try their hand at riding a sheep, and of course the ever-popular “Bull Riding” at the Bull riding area. And in the Field and Garden tent, kids will be able participate in “Farmer for a Day” where they can milk a cow. Also the little ones can play in a soybean box or in a big sand box outside the tent. There will also be a

heifer show and competition by our local 4-H folks, sporting a new ring and pens, donated by local farms and other local businesses. Be sure to visit our international award-winning, Agriculture Education Center, a donated grain bin that houses interactive farm games for kids and flat screen televisions with various videos featuring planting, growing and harvesting a variety of farm crops and the raising of livestock including “birthing” of animals. There will be a few added surprise items in that area also. In addition, we will have face painting in that area as well. Four ground acts are planned this year including Hansen’s Spectacular, an amazing acrobatic show with five different acts. We will have Kachunga and the Alligator show, where he will catch an eight-foot alligator with his bare hands and we will have the Friendly Farmers Barn Yard Review, a variety show that is a farm themed show that is both fun and educational. Also we will have a strolling act that moves throughout the fairgrounds in various

costumes and acts as a larger-than-life fairy to a Mother Nature act. We have a fantastic entertainment lineup, with performances of several genres, on either the Duke Automotive Stage or the Blackwater River Stage almost the entire time the fair is open. Headlining is on Friday night is Neal McCoy, an award-winning, high-energy country artist. On Saturday night will be the award-winning artist, Chase Bryant, currently on the country charts. Opening for Chase is Kevin Mac, a Virginia Beach native that is getting lots of radio airplay with his newly released song “#Winning” In addition, we have many popular regional and local bands entertaining throughout the fair on both stages, including The Deloreans, Snackbar Jones and Slapnation Amusements of America will be here to provide a large variety of midway rides for all agCONTINUES ON PAGE 5

FROM PAGE 3 es. We will have 24 food vendors (mostly local) to provide a huge variety of wonderful fair food, to satisfy almost any appetite. There will be a Talent Show, Antique Motors and Tractors, School Displays, Bull Riding, Antique Tractor Pull, Draft Horse Pull, Monster Truck Rides, the Car Show and Camel and Pony Rides. Thursday night is carload night where admission and ride tickets for up to eight legally seated in a car is $40, a very good deal for families. Friday is School Day with special group rates and Senior Day where Seniors get in from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $1. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day with Military with ID get in for $5. As you can see, there is so very much to do, it is almost impossible to do everything at the fair. It is this Fair Committee’s sincere desire and hope this fair will be the most memorable and fun-filled family event of the year with a dose of agriculture education thrown in. We certainly hope you come to visit us and make the most out of what the fair has to offer. Welcome and enjoy every single minute of the 2016 Isle of Wight County Fair!

Isle of Wight County Fair

Isle of Wight County Fair Entertainment Truly something for everyone at the fair

A man who wrestles an alligator — a cow who sings like Elvis — magnificent costumes on a towering tall woman — a cloud swing 30 feet up in the air. These are a few of the exciting and entertaining performances you and your family will see at the 2016 Isle of Wight County Fair. Kachunga and the Alligator come to us from the deep swamps of Florida. This standing-room-only, crowd pleasing act pits a man against an alligator for an educational, funny and safe demonstration of what thrills us about giant reptiles and man’s interaction with them. Hansen’s Spectacular is actually five spectacular acts of daring do. High platform roller skating, followed by fast and furious juggling. Then back to the heights with high-flying

trampoline performers and a 30 foothigh cloud swing. As if all that weren’t enough, the Hansen’s show also includes one of the world’s youngest aerial performers. Carrie McQueen is one of the most beautiful “high class” stilt walkers you will ever meet. She is “nothing short” of amazing with her magnificent costumes, juggling skills and graceful dances. Make sure your kids get a chance to interact with Carrie McQueen as she strolls through the fair grounds.

And, last but not least, don’t miss the Friendly Farmer’s Barn Yard Review. This two-person, farm-oriented, variety show features a moooo-ving Elvis style tribute to bovines, Farmer Zac and his magic show, and lots of educational and important information about safety on the farm. What could be better for a county fair?

She had heard my granddad had played for Roy and Waylon Jennings. We went into her office and I played a few songs. She offered me a deal then and there,” said Bryant. He later learned that was her last such signing as she was terminally ill at the time; she died in early December 2011. “That was a pretty heroic moment for me,” he said. That deal will come to greater fruition at the beginning of the year, which is when Bryant will release his first full-length record. “We’re just about done,” he said. “We’re shooting a music video in a couple of weeks.” The album title is still to be decided. It could be self-titled. We’ll all know in a matter of months. Meantime, in a matter of days, Bryant will be on the Duke Automotive Stage at 9 p.m. “We’re really looking forward to it,” he said. “We’re happy to be there for the first time.”

Join the Fair as a volunteer — Have fun, serve your community WINDSOR The 2016 Isle of Wight County Fair opens on Friday, Sept. 15. Held at Joel C. Bradshaw’s Fairground in Windsor, the fair is a community endeavor from start to finish, according to Danny Byrum, Fair chairman since 2013. “Our fair committee’s and sponsors are all from the community,” he said. “It is a wonderful way for people to get involved with an important civic event, meet people, have fun and serve their community. “We welcome individual volunteers

Many of the volunteer committees work all year planning for the fair, but there is always a need for help right before and during the fair days. So, if you, or your organization is interested in getting involved in this year’s fair, or are looking for a long term commitment, contact Lauren Wood at 3572291.
