‘n Nuwe Tandarts het so pas haar deure in Wellington oopgemaak. Alhoewel ‘n boorling van die Noord-Kaap, het Tineke reeds goed kennisgemaak met die Drakenstein gebied as ‘n leerder van Hoërskool Gimnasium. Na skool het sy eers ‘n Toerismediploma verwerf, en daarna vir twee jaar as stoelassistent in Engeland gewerk. Nadat sy teruggekeer het na Suid-Afrika het sy haar diploma in Mondhigiëne voltooi. Sy het vir ‘n paar jaar as Mondhigiënis gepraktiseer, maar het besef haar passie en droom is om as Tandarts te kwalifiseer. Dit het bewaarheid geword en sy het ook haar Nagraadse Diploma in Kaak-, Gesig en Mond- Radiologie voltooi. “Dit is my absolute passie om met mense te werk en te kan help waar ek kan. Ek het die voorreg gekry om my praktyk te vestig by Medicross in Wellington en ek sien nog baie jare van voorspoed en geluk wat hier voorlê.

THE PERFECT PARTY Chocolate and cherry cream meringue gâteau: Serves 6-8 For the chocolate meringue • 8 egg whites • pinch of salt • 450g castor sugar • 10ml vanilla extract • 20ml white vinegar • 40ml corn flour, sifted • 30ml cocoa powder, sifted For the layers • 180g good quality dark chocolate • 200ml cream (to melt with chocolate)* • 10ml vanilla extract or seed scrapings of 1 vanilla pod • 300ml cream, whipped until just stiff* • fresh cherries or strawberries for garnishing • grated chocolate for garnishing (optional) • *this recipe uses 500ml cream in total To make the meringue Preheat the oven to 140˚C. Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
Whisk the egg whites and salt until just stiff. Gradually mix in the castor sugar, one spoon at a time. Whisk the mixture until glossy and thick. Use a metal spoon to fold in the vanilla, vinegar, corn flour and cocoa powder lightly but thoroughly. Spoon the meringue mixture on to the prepared baking sheet. Make four circles, each with a 20cm diameter, with fairly thick bases and raised edges. Bake for one hour then turn off the heat. Leave the meringue in the oven until completely cold (preferably overnight). To make the filling Place the chocolate and 200ml cream in a double-boiler and stir over low heat until the chocolate is just melted. Leave to cool completely. Stir the vanilla into the 300ml whipped cream.

Place a meringue disc on a serving platter, spread with a quarter of the chocolate mixture followed by a quarter of the whipped cream. Top with another meringue disc and repeat three more times. Garnish the final layer of chocolate and cream with fresh fruit and the optional grated chocolate. Coffee and hazelnut alternative Omit the cocoa powder from the meringue recipe and add 20ml instant espresso coffee powder to the mixture instead. Once the meringue discs are baked, layer them with whipped cream and caramel-dipped hazelnuts. Note: For one large Pavlova, halve the ingredients for the chocolate meringue. Top with the melted chocolate and cream (optional).

6 NEW PHONES YOU SHOULD BE MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN 2015 We’re big fans of 2014’s Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG G3, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the iPhone 6, but we’re even more impressed by what’s to come this year. Here we reveal the 6 smartphones to be most excited about in 2015. 1. SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 If you’re a Samsung fan but would like a phone rather than a phablet, the S6 will be just what you’re looking for. We should see this phone unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event on 1 March 2015.

PAARLMUSEUM EN TAALMONUMENT
Die gr. 4-klas het op Donderdag, 5 Februarie 2015 ‘n uitstappie na die Paarlmuseum en Taalmonument gehad. Hulle leer hierdie kwartaal van ons plaaslike geskiedenis in Sosiale Wetenskappe en het die uitstappie baie geniet. Hulle het ongelooflik baie geleer van Paarl se geskiedenis asook die geskiedenis van Afrikaans.

KASKARNAVAL Dit is binnekort weer tyd vir ons baie lekker jaarlikse kaskarresies. Die kinders geniet dié dag vreeslik en sien baie daarna uit. Hierdie jaar beoog ons om sommer ‘n lekker karnaval saam met die resies op Saterdag, 28 Februarie 2015 te hou. Daar gaan aktiwiteite soos ‘n “Car-
boot Sale”, waterwurms, springkastele, verskeie kompetisies, heelwat buiteuitstallers, ou karre, nuwe karre en ‘n vertoning van so om-en-by ‘n uur lank om die hele gesin te vermaak, wees. Daal sal ook genoeg wees om die innerlike te versterk. Die foto’s dui aan hoe die kinders dit verlede jaar geniet het.
GRAAD 2 UITSTAPPIE Gr 2 het die groentemark besoek en meer oor groente en vrugte geleer. Hulle het ook ‘n kansie gehad om van die vrugte te koop en daarna heerlik daaraan te smul.

KLEURE SWEMGALA– ALICE BREEK REKORDS! Die Interkleure swemgala het plaasgevind op 28 Januarie waartydens alle leerders van gr.1 tot gr. 12 deelgeneem het aan verskeie items. Een van die uitblinkers van die dag was Alice van der Merwe. Sy het onderskeidelik in vier items rekords verbeter naamlik: 100m Individuele medley ope, 100m vryslag ope, o/14 50m rugslag en vryslag. Een van hierdie rekords, die 100m vryslag ope, staan al van 1995 af. Sy het die tyd verbeter na 1:03.96 (25m swembad). Ons is SO trots op haar!
WATERKLOOF ATLETIEKBYEENKOMS
Twintig atlete het die naweek van 30 Januarie HMS se naam hoog gehou tydens die jaarlikse Waterkloof atletiekbyeenkoms by Tukkies. Hulle het 7 medaljes gewen en 14 atlete was onder die top 6 posisies. Twaalf skole het landswyd deelgeneem.

From 10 – 14 December 2014 the following swimmers from Boys High took part in the Western Province Swimming Championships in Belville: Gerhard Strauss, Darren Minnies, Dehan van Dyk, Pierre Pretorius, Andre van Huyssteen, Wynand Viljoen, Dewan Bubb, Gerhard Strauss, Alex van Rooijen, Christian Slabbert and Bob Fick.
Unfortunately, Walter Travers could not take part this year because of an injury. The hours and hours of training in the pool paid off and all the boys swam personal best times. Several boys swam in final events. This is a real achievement, as it means that these boys are part of the top 8 swimmers in their events in the whole of the Western Cape Province.

Neethling, whose presence alone proved to be inspirational! However, the Larries also took to heart his modest motivational message.
NATIONAL DEBATING
Two learners of La Rochelle Girls’ High School, Megann Ferreira (Grade 12) and Jordan Willett (Grade 10) took part in the National Schools’ Debating Championships in Stellenbosch from 13 to 18 December last year. Jordan, who was a member of Western Cape Junior A Team, was chosen to be a trialist for the Junior National Team and ranked 3rd out of 52 Junior speakers at the tournament. Megann’s team (Western Cape Senior B) ranked 4th overall and placed first amongst their fellow Western Cape delegations. She was also individually chosen to be a trialist (which will take place from 4 March in Johannesburg) for the Senior National Team and was ranked 27th out of over 100 speakers. Both Larries will receive additional training from the national coaches before trials take place, which will determine selection for the South African Teams competing in the World Debating Championships.
WORLD CHAMP SETS ANOTHER TITLE
Larrie Junior World Champion in the 400mH, Gézelle Magerman, has been included in the Squad of 96 athletes (54 girls and 42 boys) as announced by Athletics South Africa. The athletes are currently being monitored by the ASA National Selectors in preparation for the 2015 CAA African Championships, which will take place in Addis Ababa from 5-8 March 2015. At a gala function of the DISCOVERY SPORTS INDUSTRY AWARDS in Johannesburg, Gézelle received the DISCOVERY RISING STAR OF 2014 Award.

ATLETIEK Dit was ʼn naelbytstryd tydens die jaarlikse interskole-atletiek teen Oakdale. Die Bolanders het hul puik van hul taak gekwyt en nooit teruggestaan teen Oakdale nie. Oakdale het die byeenkoms gewen.

AGNES PAUW-TENNISTOERNOOI
Hoërskool Dirkie Uys het weer vanjaar die Agnes Pauw-tennistoernooi vir dogters aangebied. Hul dogterspan eindig vierde in die kompetisie. Paarl Gimnasium was die wenners, met Hoërskool Stellenbosch en Paarl Girls High tweede en derde.

Lenka (O.19) en Corin de Waal (O.15) van Hoërskool Dirkie Uys is ingesluit in die Boland tennisspan.
