HERSCHEL JANTJIES Ons moet begin deur te vra oor jou skoolloopbaan. Vertel vir ons lesers ‘n bietjie meer daaroor. Waar was jy op skool en wat sal jy altyd onthou van skool? Wat sal jou onderwysers van jou vertel? Ek was op laerskool in Kylemore, by PC Pietersen Primêr waar ek hoofseun was. Ek het my hoërskoolloopbaan begin by Kylemore Senior Sekondêr. Ek was daar vir so ‘n week en ‘n half, totdat ek die geleentheid gekry het om Paul Roos toe te gaan. Op skool was ek maar baie rustig en die ou wat alles gegee het vir rugby.
‘n Jaar gelede het hy nog vir die WP Curriebekerrugby gespeel maar te danke aan ‘n skitterende Super Rugby seisoen het Herschel Jantjies skielik homself in ‘n Springboktrui ingespeel. Met die Springbokke se onlangse 2019 Rugbywêreldbekersege het AWSUM gaan inloer by die oud-Paul Roos Gimnasium leerder.
As jy nie ‘n professionele rugbyspeler was nie, watter ander werk sou jy graag wou doen en hoekom? My gunsteling sport is rugby. Ek het maar grootgeword met balsport. Ek het sokker, krieket, rugby en glo dit of nie basketbal, ook gespeel. Ek het op die end besluit dat rugby die sport vir my is. Watter emosies het jy ervaar toe jy die laaste aangee vir Handré gee om die bal uit te skop en seker te maak dat ons die Wêreldbeker wen? Ek het die tyd dopgehou vir die volle 3 minute wat ek op die veld was. Ek het ekstra seker gemaak dat ek die bal perfek by Pollie uitkry. Toe hy uitskop, was ek baie verlig en moes ‘n traantjie stort! Ek sal daai oomblik verewig onthou. Jy het ‘n ongelooflike 2019 agter die rug. Wie is jou rolmodelle en waarop fokus jy om die beste nr 9 ter wêreld te wees? My rolmodelle in die lewe is verseker my ouers. As dit by rugby kom, kyk ek op na Faf De Klerk, Cobus Reinach en ook Aaron Smit. Toe ek jonger was, was Mike Phillips een van die ouens na wie ek baie opgekyk het en ek was gelukkig om sy plaasvervanger vir een van die Scarlets se PRO14 wedstryde te wees, teen die Cheetahs in 2017. Vertel ons van die spankultuur by die Bokke? Wie is die grootste grapmakers? Ons het ‘n “great” groep gehad. Ek dink almal het n groot impak gehad. Ons almal wou net die beste vir die groep en die span hê. Die grootste grapmaker moet verseker RG Snyman wees. Dan ook wat Schalk Brits na die groep gebring het, was iets baie spesiaal. Het jy verwag om genomineer te word vir “Breakthrough Player of the Year”? Ek gaan speel nooit met die doel om ‘n individuele toekenning te kry of enige iets van die aard nie. Ek glo rugby is ‘n spansport en as die span goed doen, sal ek goed doen. Waarna luister jy nou in jou kar? Enige liedjies wat op “repeat” speel? Ek luister altyd na Chris Brown, Drake of Travis Scott. Wat is jou stokperdjies buite rugby? Ek hou daarvan om met my vriende van my tuisdorp te kuier en om net op my bank te lê en PlayStation te speel. As jy ‘n ‘how-to-guide’ moet skryf vir seuns wat ‘n sukses wil maak as ‘n sportster, wat sal die eerste 3 stappe wees? Stap 1- Moet nooit opgee nie. Stap 2- Om suksesvol te wees, moet jy selfsugtig wees. Stap 3- Moet nooit dink dat die wêreld jou iets skuld of dat jy beter is as enige iets of enigiemand nie. Wat lê voor vir 2020? Wat is jou doelwitte? My doelwitte vir 2020 is om seker te maak dat ek op my beste is vir die DHL Stormers en alles doen wat ek kan, om seker te maak dat dit vir ons ‘n suksesvolle seisoen is.

Swimming A great start to the swimming season for the swimming team. SACS achieved nine 1st, 2nd and 3rd places at the gala hosted by Wynberg Boys’ High School. Here is the U14 medley relay team who won their race comfortably. Thank you to parents for their support and transport. This bodes very well for the future of SACS swimming. Spectemur agendo!

Ethan Groenewald, Pinelands North Primary School learner, is the third best at Maths in grade 2 in South Africa! We are very proud of him!
Bellville-Noord is vanjaar ‘n volle 70 jaar oud. Ons het wel ‘n pragtige embleem laat ontwerp, maar het besluit om eers oor 5 jaar, wanneer ons 75 is, ‘n groot jaar daarvan te maak. Ons gaan wel ons revue aan die 70-jarige verjaarsdag koppel. Vanjaar bied ons gr. R tot 3’s die revue aan. Voorheen het ons elke vier jaar van gr. R tot graad 7’s saam aangebied. Gr. 4 tot 7 bied nou oor twee jaar húl revue aan. Alle oud-BN’ers word egter gevra om van hul te laat hoor deur die Kontak Ons-blad in ons webblad. Noem wanneer u of u kind(ers) by ons was, in watter grade en enige interessante inligting of staaltjies. Ons wil ook graag inligting van vorige onderwysers by ons ontvang. Indien u ‘n getroude dame is, gee tog net ook u nooiensvan vir ons.

BTHS Inter House Athletics Blue House (Einsteins) vs Red House (Newton) On Friday, 24 January 2020, we had our annual Inter-house athletics at school. This year, the school was divided into two teams/houses – Blue house (Einstein) and Red house (Newton). Each team chose their cheerleaders and the cheerleaders did a great job and did just that, they CHEEEEEEERED! At the end of the day the Blue House (Einstein) walked away with the spirit cup and the Red House (Newton) won the athletics. Our Victor Ludorums were: Jadon de Wee (Senior) and Kamva Mlandu (Junior) and our Victrix Ludorums: Divine Kimpe (Senior) and Nina Scullion (Junior), who accumulated the most points for their teams during the event. Hoërskool De Kuilen Kleure Atletiek het oor 3 dae plaasgevind en die heerlike weer het sommer vir groot opwinding gesorg. Die atlete het hul beste gelewer en baie rekords is verbeter. Daar was ‘n lekker gees wat geheers het onder die deelnemers en toeskouers.

Hoërskool Tygerberg krieketspeler, Luan Franken was deel van ‘n kriekettoergroep na Indië einde November 2019. Hy het baie goed presteer met die kolf en in een wedstryd 122 lopies aangeteken. Aan die einde van die toer is hy ook aangewys as die kolwer van die toernooi. Luan gaan ook in Maart aan die Cape Town Premier League deelneem.
Laerskool Brackenfell het Vrydag, 24 Januarie hul jaarlikse atletiekbyeenkoms gehou. Die atlete was van top gehalte en daar is altesaam 16 rekords oor twee dae gebreek. Die atletiektrofee is deur Brummer gewen en Visser het die geesbeker gewen. Enya Binneman was die Victrix Ludorum en Lwanzo Vyambwer was die Victor Ludorum. Baie geluk aan elke deelnemer!

SA Chess Championships Nicole Osborne, a learner from Tygerberg High School, represented the Western Province under 20 girls A team, in the South African Junior Chess Championships in Boksburg. Op 29 November 2019, het Laerskool Gene Louw ‘n Kaalvoetdag gehou. Die skool het 1 989 pare skoene ingesamel wat aan Badisa-kantore geskenk is om na goeddunke te versprei. Laerskool Gene Louw is baie dankbaar vir elke paar skoene wat geskenk is en waardeer alle insette van ouers, leerders en personeel.
Op Woensdag 29 Januarie 2020 het die jaarlikse Evergala plaasgevind. Die graad 1`s was veral opgewonde vir hulle heel eerste gala. The new Grade 8’s had their first official day at The Settlers High School. The orientation programme included learning how to sing the school song, getting their textbooks (there were quite a lot!), making friends, and even a guided tour of our school.
Hier is hulle – die Hoërskool Bellville se Welpies van 2020. Die bykans 300 graad 8’s is die grootste groep in die geskiedenis van die Hoërskool Bellville. Die unieke tradisie van die skool is voortgesit waar elkeen van die graad 8’s gedurende hul eerste oriënteringsweek hul verskillende laerskole se skooldrag dra. Hulle het daarna - vir die eerste keer geklee in hul nuwe Hoërskool Bellville-skooldrag - hul skoolbaadjies op ‘n spesiale baadjieplegtheid van die hoofleiers ontvang en vir die eerste keer aangetrek. Die baadjieplegtigheid is afgesluit toe die graad 8’s die spesiale tradisie voortgesit het om die skoollied by die gedenktuin te sing.
