Chocolate Day 2018

Teddy Day 2018

The first day of Valentine’s Week starts with Rose Day, when roses are exchanged as gifts. There are some specific colours chosen for particular people. It could be a red or a pink rose for our life partner, or a white rose for a best friend who plays an important role in our lives.

Propose to the person whom you love – just say ‘I love you’. It doesn’t matter whether they accept or reject the proposal. Just express your feelings to someone who is the heart of your life.

If you have missed the chance of expressing your feelings to a loved one, then use this second chance by giving them rich chocolate or chocolate cake, with their name on and say ‘You are part of my life in dreams – would you be my dream girl/boy in real life too?’ After all, no one doesn’t like chocolates.

Teddy Day is a totally unbeatable day for girls, as no girl ever doesn’t like to have a big or small teddy with her. So boys, make sure if you like or love someone, that you do something special on Teddy Day with a special teddy bear. A promise is a sweet gift from your loved one.

Hug Day 2018

Kiss Day 2018

Valentine’s Day 2018

Promise Day is the 5th day of Valentine’s Week. On this day, everyone promises to each other that they want to be together for ever.

A hug of more than 30seconds creates trust and positivity in the person whom you hold in your arms. So celebrate Hug Day to show that you love and care. Just go ahead and give a tight hug.

This day is only for serious partners. It is for the person whom you love very much. Just run and kiss him or her without hesitation because of course, he or she is only your beloved one.

Valentine’s Day is a day of love, truth, honesty, belief and expression of your love. Spend some special time with your partner – have a romantic candlelight dinner with romantic love songs, or anything that will be a real treat. Celebrate the day of love.

Water Polo The Border Girls U19 Water Polo team did very well in the national interprovincial championships in December in Port Elizabeth, being pipped into second place in the final against Southern Gauteng. Eight members of the squad of 11 came from Stirling and two Stirling students, Xanthé Ibbotson and Rebecca Ansell, were selected subsequently for the National Schools U18 squad. Both have played for South African teams in the past. Gauteng Schools Water Polo praised 2017 Stirling Matriculants Chloë Meecham and Hanna Muller as they left schools and Border water polo as the most capped South African scholars of all time, having played in at least six international tournaments under the SA flag over the past three years. Well done, girls!

CLARENDON PRIMARY SCHOOL

(t) 043 722 5128 (e) cprimsec@iafrica.com.co.za

First day back at school Clarendon Primary School has proudly stood on their four core values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Caring. On the first day back at school their new 5th Value, GRIT, was launched – with the dual purpose of also welcoming all Clarrie Bags back to school in a fun and

exciting way. For generations we have encouraged and glorified 'talent' as the way to success. Either you've got it, or you don't. Recent research (by Angela Duckworth and other leading psychologists) shows that talent can

be developed, and that with the right 'Growth Mindset', we can achieve hard goals if we intentionally practice towards them. Grit is tenacity. It's showing up and never giving up, day after day, week after week, month after month. Grit is the ability to get back up after

failing, analyzing reasons for failure, and learning from our mistakes. It is our hope to see our Clarrie Bags grow into their best selves as they put their fears of 'making a mistake' behind them, and bravely step into new ideas and challenges with a positive attitude.

Notably, Lilyfontein School is one of only 115 schools in the country to achieve 100% pass rate for five consecutive years. Only eight of these schools are in the Eastern Cape and only three in the Buffalo City District. Gandhi Jafta, Head Leader, lead the pack with 6 distinctions

Grade 0s having outside fun We welcomed 36 new Grade 0s into our Pre-Primary school last week and they are settling in just fine.

Nathan Lentz (Grade 9) was recently capped with his SA Jnr Protea Bass Angling Colours at Witbank Dam during an International Test against Zimbabwe. Nathan qualified for the team back in April during the National Tournament where the top 12 Junior Bass Anglers in SA were selected. Not only did SA win the test but Nathan and his fishing partner, Nathan Wickham from Mpumalanga, were the top boat in the tournament. Nathan now joins a few other anglers from Wriggleswade Bassmasters who have achieved Protea colours. We are very proud of Nathan’s achievements. CLARENDON HIGH SCHOOL (t) 043 722 4887 (e) secretary@chsg.co.za Lara Patrick’s trip to Malaysia in December 2017 (SA U16 Squash) Lara Patrick (Grade 11) certainly did herself and the school proud on the squash courts last year. She played in all the SA qualifying tournaments, ending the Inter-Provincial Tournament in June unbeaten, playing at No. 1 – which led to her selection to the SA U16 squash team, which toured Malaysia in December, playing in two international squash tournaments. Lara was selected in her first year of U16 too, in 2016, with the focus being on coaching that time. Lara also plays regularly in the Border 1st Ladies’ League (for Clarendon) and was the Border Ladies’ Open Champion last year, for the second year. The SA team started in Kuala

Page 6

Lumpur, playing in the KL Open Tournament, a large international squash tournament. She had some tough matches and finished being ranked 18th – but said she learnt much to improve her game. The team could also enjoy some of the sights and markets in Kuala Lumpur. Lara especially enjoyed seeing the finals being played on the iconic all-glass Nicole Davids Squash Court. They then travelled to play in the Singapore Open, a smaller tournament, played in some heat, with aircons on every court. Luckily their hotel had a lovely pool with views across Singapore. Lara did very well in this

tournament, playing off for 9–12. She ended 12th, very creditable in an international tournament, and was much happier with her game. The team could then explore places like the Orchard Mall, the Botanical Gardens and Sentosa Island, with its amazing aquarium and water parks. Lara spoke very highly of her coach and manager, and is grateful to all who made her participation possible. This was a very well-deserved conclusion to this talented and dedicated SA squash player’s year. We wish her well as she enters the U19 age-group in 2018.
