Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts met on the set of 7de Laan in 2009 where they developed their friendship and love for film. They start their own production house,17 FILMS and since then they have been writing and collaborating on films Vir Altyd, Pad na jou hart and Stroomop. This power couple of the entertainment industry got engaged in May 2017 and AWSUM asked them some questions about love, their relationship and the film industry. Please tell our readers about your high school career. Where were you at school and what would you always remember about school? D: I was in Witbank Technical High School. We were six close friends that laughed so much. I: I was at Cornwall Hill College in Irene, I will always remember how fearless one was at school, we were not afraid of the future and adult life. You were best friends before you started going out in November 2016. Can you describe how it feels to fall in love with your best friend? I&D: Like scales falling from your eyes. There is literally nothing better on earth than having to travel with your best friend through life. The movie Stroomop touch on issues like what is expected and not expected from women. Why do you think every woman and man should watch the movie? I&D: Our hope is that everyone who sees it will discover a new kind of spirit within them to swim upstream in a world and society that often expect of us to just go with the flow. We hope that you will be the heroine or hero of your own story. It’s important to know we’re not alone. For every zig there is a zag, can you tell us more about the up’s and downs on set of Stroomop? D: Filming on the Orange River, four weeks away from home was the biggest challenge but it was also the biggest highlight to experience such an indescribably beautiful part of our country in so much depth and nature literally on our skin every day. We all got stronger together - physically and spiritually.

We made a movie on the Orange River, this is a first for South Africa, I appreciate every person for their hard work and passion and for believing in our dream. Favourite movie? D: Forest Gump, Note Book, A Star is Born, Fight Club, Amelie I: Forest Gump, Note Book, A Star is Born, Fight Club, Amelie You’ve made a big name in the film industry, what is next for you two. What advice would you give other couples that are working together? D: Remember that you are always a couple first before you are business partners. Your love and friendship come first. I: Balance is important, work hard but make time to leave work at work and focus on your unique love. Learn to speak to each other’s Love Languages.

Coding and Robotics, a compulsory part of the St Peter’s Prep curriculum St Peter’s Prep goes into its second year of offering Coding and Robotics (EdTech) as a compulsory part of the curriculum. The EdTech curriculum comprises several components: Digital Citizenship, Information Technology Skills as well as Coding and Robotics. This curriculum is implemented from Grade 0 - 7. We are particularly excited about the Robotics and Coding elements of our curriculum and there is a strong understanding of, and commitment to, the importance of learning Coding as a life skill going forward. The school has implemented a 4-pronged approach, which encompasses computer-based coding programmes; unplugged, kinaesthetic activities; Lego robotics and a focus on integration into other subjects within the curriculum, such as Maths, the Sciences and Languages. St Peter’s Prep is committed to preparing pupils for the future and providing them with the knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in our technological world.

Inspiration from Michaela Mycroft Today the school was honoured to welcome the amazing Michaela Mycroft and her mom Zelda back to Parktown Boys’ High School in a special assembly to address us and provide an update on her “Chaeli Campaign” in such a fun and interactive manner that she had the boys, special guests and staff captivated from the get-go! Michaela is a South African ability activist with cerebral palsy, who won the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2011 and we are pleased to have a number of campaign ambassadors in the school, championed by head boy, Dean Fin. We salute the work of this young lady and her campaign ambassadors nationwide. Remember your “Superhero pose” when faced with challenging situations! #Arise#ProudlyParktonian

Eerste krieketspan: Twee oorwinnings in een week

In December 2018 we had Ronnie come through to award us the most amazing prize of R10 000 and a trophy and certificates for being the winning school with regards to paper recycling. So lovely to see Arlene there, who is one of the parents assisting to weigh paper on a Tuesday morning. Arlene was adamant to collect enough paper and we are so grateful that she was out of hospital and could witness the moment. Thank you to all the parents for your help and support.
