M: Ek is ‘n ou Lantie, ek was in Hoërskool Jacobsdal Landboudal. Hoe sal julle julself beskryf as tieners? J: Ek was ‘n rebelse kind. M: Ek was net stout. J: Defnitief toasted cheese, ek was mal daaroor. M: As ek reg onthou was dit roereier.

My Kitchen Rules se laaste episode was geskiet op julle 10 jaar huweliksherdenking.

Polar Plunge The Special Olympics hosted their annual Polar Plunge at Parktown Boys’ High School on Saturday 25th August. It was a wonderful event that saw patrons, athletes and volunteers jump into the pool and swim a lap in honour of the organisation. A number of local celebrities, along with political figures - and even Mr Williams - took the plunge! Everyone who attended the morning was thoroughly impressed by the school’s facilities, the school band and the traditional dancers. What an outstanding day it was! Thank you to everyone who contributed to the day.

St Peter’s Prep Schools - Building a better South Africa through Education This article is a report on a teacher intern programme initiated by the St Peter’s Foundation. The aim of the Isematholeni Intern Programme is to train disadvantaged young adults to become excellent professional teachers, in order to improve education for thousands of children in South Africa. There are three pillars to this programme: 1. Academic: B. Education UNISA degree. The interns of 2017s’ pass rate was 86% with 36% of subjects achieving distinctions. 2. Classroom practice: daily on-the-job training in the classroom and exposure to innovative teaching methods, classroom management and discipline, workshops, parent consultations and more, ensure that the interns leave the programme as effective, motivated and well-prepared teachers for South African schools. Our interns, based at St Peter’s, have become the fundamental support for the Community Partnership programme initiative - at our two partner schools, Diepsloot Combined School and Sefikeng Primary. Here, we teach literacy on a daily basis. The Read for Africa programme, is followed to develop literacy skills using the Phono-Graphix Reading and Spelling method. As part of their teaching journey, the interns are exposed to different teaching environments and are responsible for teaching literacy. Each intern is assigned to a specific class and ensures that effective learning takes place through lesson planning, classroom management, etc. to expand children’s learning. 3. Psycho-social development: The psycho-social support that we offer seeks to create productive and effective teachers with a Leadership mind-set. Graduates of the programme need to be solution-driven with a positive outlook on life and the ability to meet its challenges. The interns have greatly benefited from a fulltime mentor. They encounter all sorts of problems, which distract them from their studies and the mentor is on hand to deal with the challenges on a daily basis as they arise. In addition, each intern is paired with a teacher for the term. This teacher plays an instrumental role in the interns’ social and emotional development. With the encouragement and support of the school and our confidence in the interns’ ability to do a great deal better, their eyes have been opened to their own potential. ST PETER’S COLLEGE (t) 011 807 5315 (e) info@stpeterscollege.co.za The St Peter’s College Sport and Cultural Festival took place over the weekend of 14-16 September 2018 A Pavement Art Competition was held, and St Peter’s College entered 3 teams to compete against the other schools. Some fantastic art was displayed and after all the art was judged, Dominican Convent took 1st place. The Grade Nine Entrepreneurship Day was a great success and a huge variety of products were sold, such as tie-dye t-shirts and handmade jewellery items. A music chill zone was set up outside the Admin Block, where a great variety of talent was displayed by students of all ages. A performer that stood out though

was DJ Matthew Harris, who had everyone in the audience’s attention and spun his records with great skill! The Drumline also performed several songs adding to the electric atmosphere and the great vibe of the day! Our sports teams all played with fantastic sportsmanship and displayed a great sense of pride in everything they did on the court and field. They represented St Peters College very well and did us all very proud! Results and full articles can be read at www.awsumnews.co.za

Spring Day Tradition

Fun Run 2018

It’s a tradition almost as old as time itself. Many of our parents did exactly the same thing when they were at Rand Park Primary! To celebrate Spring Day, learners bring flowers and pot plants to school that are then delivered to Old Age Homes and facilities in the area. It is often a very chilly day, but the generosity and pretty colours warm many hearts.

A great morning of community fun. Thank you to Run Zone, Haval Northcliff, Rawson Properties, Curves Gym, Go Gym and JMPD for the support. Well done to our Parents’ Association members who made it such a smooth event.

Councillors 2019 Congratulations to our Councillors for the year 2019. We look forward to you leading the school into its 50th Year.
