Message from King Edward VII School King Edward VII School is once again privileged to host our Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival, the 17th anniversary of this unique event on our calendar, so generously made possible by our primary sponsor, Standard Bank. As always we are delighted to play host to a spectrum of participants who collectively contribute to our Festival, these inter alia include: • The 45 teams encompassing senior rugby and hockey, as well as primary schools rugby • Coaches and professional support staff • All our sponsors who make this event possible • And of course the spectrum of spectators who savour the experience, and who most importantly, create the attendant unique `buzz` of this family oriented event. A crucial ingredient of our Festival is to provide a platform for the participating teams to play without the pressures so typical of normal seasonal fixtures, and to also pit their skills against opposition who they would not normally encounter, a recipe for unhindered expression of talents. In pursuit of ensuring a successful event, it goes without saying that inordinate preplanning, inputs, and ultimately on the ground delivery from a multitude of people, culminate in the Festival`s seamless execution. We appropriately acknowledge: • Festival Director Derron van Eeden, old boy Chairperson Neil Darroch and his everwilling Committee comprising parents, alumni, friends of the School, and staff • Director of Sport, Eugene Marx, together with numerous School staff and coaches who provide support in a variety of ways • Medical support professionals, Dr Peter Baxter, Physiotherapist Brendan During, the 1st Aid Team, and attending Chiropractors • Facilities Manager Anthon Keyter and his team who ensure playing facilities of the highest standard prevail • The Golden Lions Referees for sacrificing of their personal time Thank you again to our primary sponsor Standard Bank, together with the other contributing sponsors, for exceptionally loyal and generous support. `Welcome to Festival 2019`

Message from Standard Bank South Africans have two significant passions, namely education and sport. Combine the two and have some of South Africa’s leading schools competing against each other in sports and rugby festivals, and it is guaranteed that families and sports lovers will pour through the gates to enjoy the day. This devotion to education and sport and the acknowledgement that sport unifies people across economic and social divides is what drives Standard Bank to invest in school sport and the development of education - a drive to which we devote millions of rand each year. We believe that while sport promotes the building of relationships both on and off the field, it is education that transforms lives and communities. Most important, is assisting people who come from the ‘missing middle’ and struggle to access training and tertiary education after completing matric. By encouraging people with the financial means to assist those who need to pay outstanding fees, and those looking for support to study has led the bank to support the Feenix crowdfunding initiative. There was R 19 million donated to the platform during 2018. The funds came from 100 businesses as well as 917 individual funders. Most of the funding went to engineering students and 23 universities benefitted through student payments. We encourage all supporting South Africa’s 17th Rugby Festival to bear the relationship between sport and education in mind as the premier event gets underway. As a sponsor, Standard Bank is proud to partner with King Edward VII School in rolling-out this event which promotes individual discipline, teamwork and understanding. One of the most acknowledged quotations about rugby says: “Players win games, teams win championships.” At Standard Bank, we believe that this approach should be adopted by all taking part in the tournament. Rugby is like life. There will always be individuals who excel; it is often these ‘stars’ that will help win games. However, without support from their teammates, it is unlikely that any talented individual can deliver a championship. Taking to the field ready to give of your best, but realising that the emphasis should be on helping the team deliver leads to a focused effort where the aim is to contribute to the strategies and movements that produce points. Banking is similar. At Standard Bank, we act as a team focused on creating ongoing partnerships that assist our customers in preparing for their future. These partnerships, we believe, should begin as people step from supportive school surroundings to the tertiary environment where the emphasis is on personal independence and commitment to studies. By becoming lifelong partners with our customers, we can offer financial solutions that provide support throughout the various stages of their lives. We look forward to assisting a new generation of customers and continuing to help those attending the festival who already bank with us. Partnerships and relationships are central parts of Standard Bank being sure that our customers, regardless of age, are ‘Good to Go’. The promise embodied in our new campaign is that our customers will always have the products and services that they need available when they are needed. Regardless of whether customers require a personal loan, foreign exchange for a long-awaited trip, a home loan or any other solution, we will make sure that they are ‘Good to Go’ with the financial assistance needed to help meet their dreams. No event of this nature would be possible without the coaches, parents, organisers, teachers and ‘backroom workers’ devoting hours of their time to making the event a success. To them, go our thanks. Our best wishes go to all the young sportsmen who are competing. Standard Bank urges you to give of your best for your team. Enjoy the matches, enjoy making new friends and enjoy participating. We also thank all schools for their efforts to make the event the success it always is. The message to King Edward VII School is from Funeka Montjane, CE for Standard Bank Personal and Business Banking South Africa.

Legends Bryan Habana and Dan Carter surprise KES On Wednesday 13 March, old boy Bryan Habana (Class of 2000) surprised the King Edward learners at half time in a friendly exhibition rugby match against Queen’s High School! Bryan and the great New Zealander Dan Carter hid behind the scenes until the whistle blew at half time and the School went wild has the two heroes stepped onto the field. Bryan and Dan were at the school to launch to announce their Ambassador roles for Mastercard and the Rugby World Cup 2019, and what better way to do it than on the field that Bryan’s career was launched. PROFILE ON
KING EDWARD VII SCHOOL
The 2019 KES Easter Festival The Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival was first staged in 2002 as a key event in celebrating King Edward VII School`s Centenary. It was originally planned as a once off Festival but as a result of the huge success it turned out to be, became an integral component of the School`s annual calendar. The Festival has a unique `family` flavour and is considered an annual pilgrimage for multitudes of old boys, and friends of the School. Senior rugby and hockey teams, as well as enthusiastic Primary School teams showcase their skills over a period of 3 days. 45 teams, 16 senior rugby, 16 hockey & 13 junior rugby teams, in 2019 will participate and provide visitors and supporters with a feast of top class schoolboy sport.
Enjoy the tournament with us! Page 10

Low Carb Breakfast Pizza Prep Time: 20 mins | Cook Time: 20 mins | Rest time: 5 mins | Total Time: 45 mins This low carb breakfast pizza is made with a delicious, cheesy coconut flour crust. Add cheese, eggs and bacon, and you’ve got yourself the perfect breakfast pizza!
Ingredients • Olive oil spray • 4 large Nulaid eggs • 2 tablespoons water • 1 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 teaspoon onion powder • 1 teaspoon dried oregano • ¼ cup coconut flour • 6 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (1 oz)
Toppings: • 6 bacon strips • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (4 oz) • 6 small or medium eggs
Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line two pans with parchment paper and spray the paper with olive oil. 2. Place the bacon strips in a large cold skillet. Heat the skillet over medium heat. Cook the bacon until just crisp. Allow to cool on paper towels, then cut into bite-size pieces. Set aside. 3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with the https://healthyrecipesblogs.com/low-carb-breakfast-pizza/
water, garlic powder, onion powder and dried oregano. 4. Measure out the coconut flour, breaking up any lumps with your hands. Stir the coconut flour into the egg mixture, mixing until smooth. Stir in the Parmesan cheese. 5. Allow the mixture to rest and thicken for a couple of minutes. This will allow the coconut flour to soak up the liquid. 6. Using a rubber spatula, transfer half of the mixture onto each of the prepared pans. Use a spatula to spread it out evenly into an 8-inch circle. 7. Bake the pizzas until just set but still light in color, about 10 minutes. 8. Remove the baked crusts from the oven. Spray them with olive oil. Sprinkle each crust with half the shredded cheese. 9. Break the eggs into a small bowl, then slide them onto the pizzas. If you’re using large eggs, it’s best to pour out some of the egg whites. 10. Return the pizzas to the oven. Bake until egg whites are almost set, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle the pizzas with the bacon pieces. Bake until egg whites are fully cooked, 2-3 more minutes. 11. Allow to rest 5 minutes before cutting each pizza into three big slices and serving.
