Donderdag, 12 Februarie, het Ls BellvilleNoord ons eerste JP-atletiekbyeenkoms aangebied. Vier skole se o.7-o.9’s het deelgeneem in wedlope oor 60 m, 80 meter, asook ‘n 150 m-aflos. Die eerste drie plekke het elke ‘n pragtige goue toekenning ontvang. Die opwinding was baie groot met veral die aflosse waar een kind uit elke ouderdom in ‘n span deelgeneem het. Vir die meeste was dit ook die eerste keer ooit dat hul aan
‘n aflos blootgestel word. Ondanks sterk kompetisie vanaf Aristea, De Tyger en Simonsberg, het heelwat van ons atlete het podiumplekke losgehardloop. Dankie aan die skole wat dié eerste byeenkoms kom ondersteun het. Ons glo en vertrou dit sal nog vir jare vorentoe aangebied word en een van die bestes in die Skiereiland word. Geluk aan juf’ens Charlin Etzebet en Melissa Maritz wat dit gereël het.
GRAAD 5’S MAAK VRUGTESLAAI
Die graad 5’s van Laerskool BellvilleNoord het Februarie verwelkom met ‘n heerlike praktiese les waartydens hulle hul eie vrugteslaaie gemaak het as deel van Afrikaans Huistaal. Juffrou Esmé Uys het die instruksies goed vooraf deurgegaan en toe was dit sulke tyd. Heelwat gelag
het almal laat weet dié kinders geniet die aktiwiteit terdeë. Natuurlik kon van die kinders nie wag om mededeelsaam te wees en die onderwysers aan weerskante van hierdie klaskamer van ‘n onverwagse maar gesonde en baie lekker ete te voorsien nie.

Saterdag, 31 Januarie, het ‘n ‘n groepie opgewonde BN’ers (1 onderwyser, 4 leerders asook ‘n oud-BN’er) en van hul ouers weer deelgeneem aan die Bellville “Parkrun” wat weekliks op Saterdae om 08:00 in die Jack Muller Park plaasvind. Dié groep daag die ander BN’ers (asook BN-onnies én ouers) uit om ookSaterdae aan hierdie heerlike pretdraf/-loop oor 5 km te kom deelneem. Inskrywings is verniet en u kan aanlyn gaan registreer. Die uitslae word kort na elke pretloop aan geregistreerde deelnemers via die internet gestuur.

DIY CANDLE STICKS

Go green for the month of love and repurpose old pieces of wood into candle sticks. YOU’LL NEED: Thick pieces of wood Saw and hammer Cutting tongs Panel pin nails WHAT TO DO: • Start by selecting a few different pieces of wood. • If the stumps are uneven, use the saw to resize them – and to make sure they don’t fall over.
• Hammer a nail into the piece of wood until there is approximately 1.5cm sticking out. This will be used to hold the candle. • Once the nail has been secured, use the cutting tongs to remove the head. • You can also hammer nails into the side of the piece of wood to add a
decorative element. I made some birds from modelling clay. • Be careful when placing the candle on to the exposed nail, as using too much force might cause the candle to split. To avoid this, warm the nail with a lighter before trying to position the candle.

LANDSDIENERS KAMP LEKKER BY TOUWSRIVIER
Die naweek van 13-15 Februarie het 11 lede by Oom Wouter (Nasionale Landsdiens Voorsitter) se plaas gaan kamp. Drie lede van De Tyger het saam met ons gery en was sommer deel van ons groepie. Ander klubs wat ook gekamp het was Lse Brackenfell, Montagu, WorcesterOos en Touwsrivier. Die kamp is deur Laerskool Montagu se Landsdienspersoneel beplan en aangebied. Hul het aparte programme gehad vir ‘n normale kamp, ‘n kamp
waar beurtkrag ‘n invloed speel asook ‘n kamp waar dit dalk reën. Ons het die normale kampprogram gevolg aangesien die beurtkrag wat wel plaasgevind het, gelukkig deur die dag en nie die nag was nie. Die bietjie reën wat geval het, was ook nie so erg dat ons nie buitentoe kon gaan nie. Die hoogtepunt van die kamp was natuurlik die potjiekosmakery, maar die handwerkvaardigheid, speletjies, samesang en natuurtaak

was ook baie geniet. Natuurlik was daar ook meer as genoeg vryetyd wat die lede sommer net lekker op die plaas kon speel of sit en gesels en nuwe maats maak. Die kos was weereens uit die boonste rakke en niemand kan kla dat hul nie genoeg of nie lekker geëet het nie. Die kamp is natuurlik afgesluit met die tradisionele ontbyt waar Oom Wouter persoonlik vir elkeen wat ‘n eier wou eet, een gebak het.

INTERHUIS GR. 4 - 7 ATLETIEK 2015
Hierdie jaar het ons ‘n rekord getal deelname aan ons atletiek dag gehad wat onderskeidelik op 29 en 30 Januarie 2015 aangebied is by ons skool. Die Donderdagmiddag is daar in hittigge toestande afgereken met die veld items waar daar verskeie rekords gebreek was. Die massa deelname wat aan die leerders gegun was is weereens te danke aan die skool se onderwysers wat die opoffering gemaak het om nog tot na 18:00 besig te wees om die laaste items af te handel. Die atlete het in groot getalle deel geneem en was by sekere items tot meer as 65 deelnemers wat ‘n groot bydrae tot hul huis se punte vir deelname bygedrae het. Die Vrydagoggend het die baanitems plaas gevind en die oggend is geopen met heerlike bewolte weer waar ons atlete die langafstand nommer sommer vroeg reeds
afgehandel het onder die bevel van Mnr. Johnson vd Merwe as afsitter en Mnr. Stean vd Merwe as hulp-afsitter. Verskeie rekords is ook hier gebreuk en atletiek van die boonste gehalte is aanskou deur ons toeskouers. Die dirigente het ook ‘n baie groot taak op hande gehad om seker te maak dat hul, hul span in die regte rigting lei met wat sang en dissipliene betref. Baie geluk aan die dirigente van huis Stassen wat hul span aangevoer het om as die sangwenners van die dag weg te stap. Die deelnamebeker is hierdie jaar welverdiend deur huis Brummer opgeraap en die atletiekuitslae beker het aan huis Visser gegaan. Baie geluk dan ook aan Syntiche Kabuya wat as 2015 se Victrix Ludorum aan gewys is en ook aan Bernard Kannemeyer wat as 2015 se Victor Lurodum aangewys is. Possumus, ja ons kan!!!
FOUNDATION PHASE ATHLETICS
On the 6 February 2015 we had our Foundation Phase athletics meeting. The children were very excited and the idea of the day was to get all the children to participate.
The learners were very colourful in their different house colours, being red for house Brummer, Yellow for House Stassen and blue for House Visser. House Brummer proved to be the victors for 2015. Thank you to our sponsor, Mr Petri Olivier from CPO who sponsored the troffee’s.

Chocolate and cherry cream meringue gâteau THE PERFECT PARTY Serves 6-8 The inspiration for making chocolate Pavlova (which is, in essence, what this gâteau is), came from dear friend and wonderful cook Stephanie Pattinson, whom I regard as a second mom. It’s a really special dessert: meringue stacked high with layers of cream and melted chocolate, and sprinkled with cherries. True decadence, and definitely worth the effort. For the chocolate meringue • 8 egg whites • pinch of salt • 450g castor sugar • 10ml vanilla extract • 20ml white vinegar • 40ml corn flour, sifted • 30ml cocoa powder, sifted For the layers • 180g good quality dark chocolate • 200ml cream (to melt with chocolate)* • 10ml vanilla extract or seed scrapings of 1 vanilla pod • 300ml cream, whipped until just stiff* • fresh cherries or strawberries for
garnishing grated chocolate for garnishing (optional) *this recipe uses 500ml cream in total •
To make the meringue Preheat the oven to 140˚C. Line a baking sheet with baking paper. Whisk the egg whites and salt until just stiff. Gradually mix in the castor sugar, one spoon at a time. Whisk the mixture until glossy and thick. Use a metal spoon to fold in the vanilla, vinegar, corn flour and cocoa powder lightly but thoroughly. Spoon the meringue mixture on to the prepared baking sheet. Make four circles, each with a 20cm diameter, with fairly thick bases and raised edges. Bake for one hour then turn off the heat. Leave the meringue in the oven until completely cold (preferably overnight).

We’re big fans of 2014’s Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG G3, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the iPhone 6, but we’re even more impressed by what’s to come this year. Here we reveal the 7 smartphones to be most excited about in 2015. 1. SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 If you’re a Samsung fan but would like a phone rather than a phablet, the S6 will be just what you’re looking for. We should see this phone unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event on 1 March 2015. 2. SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 MINI The Samsung Galaxy S6 mini is likely to arrive a few months after the standard Samsung Galaxy S6 – perhaps late June or early August – and will be a more compact version of its big brother, with a slightly slimmeddown spec.
3. SAMSUNG GALAXY A7 Samsung has confirmed its Galaxy A7, a gorgeous phablet with a 6.3mm unibody metal chassis, a 5.5in Super AMOLED screen and 64-bit-octa-core processor.

UNDERSTANDING STRESS

Before you can start learning how to manage your stress, you should have a sound understanding of what stress is and how you react to it. Stress is a term we use to explain the experience felt in mind and body when we encounter, respond or react to challenging life stressors. The scale of the reaction known as the ‘stress response’ is determined primarily by how we perceive the stressful event, our ability to cope with the stressor, and by the scale of the event. How an individual perceives and handles stress therefore plays a major role in determining their well being. Life stressors can be physical, mental or emotional stimuli, and include both imaginary or real events. The ‘stress response’ has a very physical component that is mediated via complex interactions between the nervous, hormonal and immune systems. COMMON LIFE STRESSORS What are the most common life stressors? • Major life events such as loss of a loved one, retrenchment or divorce. • Trauma such as sexual abuse, earthquakes and military combat. • Socio-economic stressors such as malnutrition, poverty and bureaucracy. • Social stressors such as relationship issues, family changes, sexuality, loneliness and social phobia. • Occupational stress such as work overload, deadlines and lack of employment. • Nutritional factors such as poor eating habits, poor nutritional intake and dieting. • Substance abuse such as caffeine, alcohol, medications, smoking and
drugs. • Financial stress. • Physical inactivity. • Chronic disease and pain. THE STRESS RESPONSE The ‘stress response’ is naturally inherent in all living things; it is directly connected to the instinct for survival. In humans it is what alerts us to danger, and is often called the ‘fight or flight response’. The body’s resources are mobilised for a primarily immediate physical response. This process of stimulus and response has a training effect that allows adaptation over time. However, when we perceive that the life stressors increase beyond our control, and/or our ability to cope diminishes, the stress response starts to negatively impact on health and well being. It is these two differing factors (perception of stressful event and coping mechanism) that determines why similar stressors affect people differently, and why stressors of seemingly differing magnitude can evoke high levels of stress. Stress has become the defining feature of the modern western world as the pace of life increases while the innate abilities of humans have remained relatively the same. Stress is on a continuum. At a positive level it is known as ‘eustress’. At an excessive or negative level it is known as ‘distress’. STRESS RESILIENCE/ STRESS

COMPETENCY Stress resilience is our ‘fitness’ to cope with stress. It is largely dictated by our physical, mental and emotional state of well being, by our perception/ paradigm of the stressful event, the environment and support structure, and by the healthiness of our stress-coping habits. LEERDERRAAD LEER SPEEL-SPEEL
Die leerders van die Laerskool Bellpark leer reeds van ‘n jong ouderdom af dat leierskap en diensbaarheid onafskeidbaar is. Elke leerder in die skool kry die geleentheid om in ‘n leierskapposisie te dien, maar slegs ‘n klein groepie leerders word tot die leerderraad verkies. Die leerderraad word baie geleenthede gegun om hul leierseienskappe te ontwikkel, soos om saal aan te bied of om fondsinsamelings te reël. Een van die die hoogtepunte is egter die jaarlikse kamp. Die leerderraad het vanaf 30 Januarie tot 1 Februarie saam met Mnr. Biggs van Wyk, Mej. Maritha
Hay en Mev. Denise Loubser die wildernis in tente te Bellevue Estate net buite Stellenbosch, aangedurf. Aktiwiteite word spesiaal ontwerp om spanwerk te bevorder en die leerders se leierseienskappe op interessante dog uitdagende maniere te toets. Die onderwysers het ook nie lig daarvan afgekom nie en Maandag vol blou kolle by die skool opgedaag a.g.v. ‘n rondte paintball . Dit was baie duidelik dat die leerderraad die meer suksesvolle span was. Ons sien met verwagting uit na wat hierdie gemotiveerde groep kinders hierdie jaar gaan vermag.

The sweet smell of chocolate, the fragrance of beautiful flowers and special messages filled the passages and classrooms of Bellpark Primary on Friday, 13 February. As part of their annual fundraising responsibilities, the learner council members purchased and sold Valentine’s
Day items in order to spread a loving feeling throughout the school. Bellparkers were queuing during break times to purchase a special mug or teddy bear for a friend or loved one. Some of the funds were used to treat each teacher to something sweet and to decorate the staffroom with hearts and flowers.

SPOED, PRESTASIE EN PRET

Hannah Rundle en Muller Loubser was die laaste bewyse van heerlike stokbrood af. Leerders is self vir die voorbereiding van hul etes tydens die kamp verantwoordelik.
Die atletiekseisoen is in volle swang en atlete het reeds die geleentheid gehad om aan drie verskillende byeekomste deel te neem waartydens hulle pragtige prestasies behaal het. Hoewel prestasie nagestreef word, is deelname beslis ‘n fokuspunt by Bellpark. Dus het die skool ‘n atletiekbyeenkoms, op 12 Februarie 2015, spesiaal vir die grondslagfaseleerders gereël sodat elke leerder die geleentheid gegun kan word om aan ‘n atletiekbyeenkoms deel te neem.
Hier oorhandig Meneer Louw (Skoolhoof), medaljes aan die drie vinnigste dogters uit verskillende uitdunne in hul ouderdomsgroep.

Baie geluk aan ons hoofleiers van 2015. Mag julle sommer ‘n wonderlike jaar beleef as ons leiers by Laerskool De Kuilen. Hierdie vier kinders is sulke voorbeeldige leerders. Alle seen op jul ekstra takies vie die jaar. Ook baie sterkte met jul studies.
AFSKOPFUNKSIE 2015
Vroeg in die nuwe skooljaar hou die peroneel, werkers en sekretariaat ‘n lekker afskopfunksie om die jaar sommer goed te begin. Vanjaar was die Graad 7 opvoeders verantwoordelik vir die reël van die funksie. Ons tema was : “dra ‘n snaakse, fancy hat”.

SA JUNIOR PISTOOLSKIETSPAN
Jan Mostert in gr. 11 het die SA Junior Pistoolskietspan gehaal en in Nederland deelgeneem aan die internasionale kompetisie. Sy pa skryf soos volg: Ons is baie gelukkig met Jan se uitslae: Daar het 35 lande ingeskryf, 17 skuts onder die juniors vir mans. Dit is vir die o.21groep, gegewe sy ouderdom en teen wie hy geskiet het, het hy goed gedoen, kan amper sê dat hy teen ou mans geskiet het! Hulle het 3 dae geskiet. Donderdag, Vrydag en die Saterdag. In al 3 dae het hy onder die top 8 beland. Die rede hoekom dié 8 so belangrik is: die 8 bestes skiet in die finaal. By beide die Donderdag en Saterdag het hy 7de geëindig. Die Vrydag was hy gelykop en met die terugtelling het hy uitgeval. Waaroor ons ook baie bly is, is dat hy weer die olympiese kwalifiserende punt geskiet het. As ‘n mens kyk na die top 8 tellings, lê die skuts bymekaar. Jan kort nog net die ervaring om die druk te hanteer. Dit is geweldig stresvol. Ek kon hulle op die internet volg soos hulle geskiet het - skoot vir skoot.
“ALTIORA SPERO” Mev Rika du Plessis staan hier voor “Altiora Spero”, die leuse van ons skool wat sy daagliks uitleef by die Hoërskool Brackenfell. Ná 38 jaar tree sy aan die einde van 2014 af. Niemand het gedink dié dag gaan aanbreek vir hierdie opvoeder wat so diep in haar leerders se harte gekruip het nie. Sy het die Afrikaanse woorde van ons skoollied geskryf wat vir jare deur duisende leerders uit die hart gesing is. Wie sal die trots vergeet waarmee die Brakkies by die Koëd ons skoollied sing? Ons groet ‘n Afrikaansonderwyser van formaat!
SA JUNIOR PISTOOLSKIETSPAN
Daar is vanjaar elf tweelinge wat by die Hoërskool Brackenfell studeer. In die agterste ry staan die matriektweelinge langs mekaar en in die middel en voor sit die tweelinge vóór en agter mekaar. Aneshka Bothma se tweeling, Lenandri, was afwesig toe die foto geneem is. Gerbrandt en Izelle Human in gr. 8 was ongelukkig ook afwesig.
ATLETIEK
Kyle Appel en Assnique Robinson is genooi om deel te neem aan die Openingsatletiekbyeenkoms van die Groenpunt Stadium. Kyle moet in die 100m kompeteer en Assnique in die 1000m.

MTBS -1000 PUNTE EN TWEE BEKERS
Die atlete van die Hoërskool Bellville het uitstekend presteer tydens die MTBS. Hulle harde werk, toewyding en passie het verseker vrugte af gewerp. Nie net het die skool pragtig presteer wat bebetref die puntetotale nie , maar het
die atletiekspan ook TWEE bekers in die ouderdomsgroepkompetisie (O/15 en 0/19 Seuns) huis toe gebring.
Wat opmerklik was van die Bellville atlete is dat hulle tot op die einde geveg het
vir hulle plek. Hulle het die raad van die atletieklegende Norman Hauser deeglik toegepas naamlik: Jy hou nie op voordat jy deur die wenpaal gehardloop het nie!” In totaal het Bellville 72 medaljes gewen. 14 Goud, 28 silver en 30 brons.
